Volume Shadow Copy Service (vss) Data

Is there any option in windows 7 so that "previous versions"/"volume shadow copy service" data would be written at the end location of a partition?Currently, based on my observation using a defragmenter tool (not windows built-in one), vss writes vss data in the middle location of a partition. And that causes fragmentation problem with a deframentation tool since:vss data would grow to a certain defined size limit, and it would take spaces aggressively in the middle location of a partition.

This would cause fragmentation issue since a defragmenter tool would defrag endlessly with major defragmentation effort if the files changes were often and/or the size of the files was big (more than 1gb). Vss data cannot be defragmented using a defragmentation tool using an online defrag, unless using an offline defrag. This would cause another issue since offline defrag can be done only when windows in a boot mode. Therefore, vss data would cause noisy data in a harddisk and lead to a defragmentation issue. I hope windows would change this problematic behavior of using vss.

Shadow Copy Storage File Issue

I noted the amt of free space on my c: drive drop almost 5gb overnight. I had not installed anything new so it seemed a mystery. Windows did install several critical updates. But nothing equaling 5gb. Knowing a restore point was created before the update i checked under advanced settings system protection. And my setting for max usage is at the 4% (23. 24gb)which is where i set it. However, current usage size is 27. 34gb. The difference certainly explains away most of the 5gb of free space i lost overnight.

I did run the shadow space command from a cmd line to be sure it showed the same information, and, it did. I thought as the space reached its max allotted size that it would drop older restore points and not exceed the allotted space? Since i have the max usage set at 23. 24gb. Then how is it that the current usage is 27. 34gb

Usb Flash Drive Error - Volume Does Not Contain Recognized File System

I plugged in my usb flash drive into a computer using windows 7. It always prompts me to scan and fix or cancel. I canceled every time, but i got annoyed with it popping up every time, so i told it to scan and fix. A loading screen came up so i patiently waited. After completion it asks to format my usb flash drive. I can't format it though because i have homework files and all my other personal files on there. So i canceled the format, but every time i plug it into my computer it asks t format it. I even plugged it into a computer running on windows xp and it wanted to format it.

When i try to run it without formatting it it says, "e: is not accessible. The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted. " My question is, what did windows 7 do to my flash drive and how do i recover my data?

Error When Trying To Copy/paste File From External Drive

I have a new computer with a windows 7 professional 64-bit operating system (500gb drive; 8gb ram). I have two external drives, each of which has a vpc on it. I use the vpcs for training purposes. They are virtually (no pun intended) identical, so one functions as a backup if something goes wrong with the other. One vpc has problems, so i want to overwrite it with the . Vmc and . Vhd files from the other vpc.

I've done this before (on my previous computer, which had windows xp-pro). I successfully copied the . Vmc file and the hard disk 2 . Vhd file, but it won't copy the hard disk 1 . Vhd file. I get an error message (error 0x8007045d) that says there is an i/o device error. How can i fix this so that it will copy the file?

Copy Disc Using Dvd Maker

Ok. Every time i go to windows dvd maker and i try to copy a dvd i made i run into several probs. First, i  have to select "all the files" because nothing shows up under "media/video/picture files" in the d drive otherwise. After selecting everything from my dvd, some of the files still get rejected from being transferred anyway!. Then when i go to click "burn" and it says i need to put in a "blank disc" which i do. After it burns for a minute and gets to about 70% it says cannot burn anymore because of a "invalid pointer. " What is that? Can you not copy a disc using windows dvd maker? If so how?

Media Player Wont Play Dvd - Digital Copy Protection Problem

Windows 7 home prem 32bit. Inserted a dvd from netflix. I get this message:"wmp cannot play this dvd because there is a problem with the digital copy protection between your dvd drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card"ok, so i have been playing dvd's using this same pc with this same drive with no issues and suddenly i insert a netflix dvd and it won't play? Let's call this drive #1. I have 2 dvd's installed in this same pc, inserting the netflix dvd into dvd #2 player, wmp plays it back fine.

Further, if i play back this netflix dvd in dvd #1 using power dvd. It plays fine. Now, since i can playback this netflix dvd using wmp in drive #2, and since i can playback this netflix dvd in drive #1 using power dvd, surely my video card driver is fine. The 2 dvd players installed in my pc are not the same brand, but i have been playing dvd's in both, playing them back using wmp, with no issues. So why the issue with this netflix dvd? Is there an explanation as to why this netflix dvd inserted into drive #1 won't play the netflix dvd using wmp? Is there a fix for this?

Magicjack - The Wrong Volume Is In The Drive

When i try to open a page from windows mail, i get a box with the above caption. It reads" the wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume magicjack into drive g. "Has three choices to select, retry, cancel, continue. If you click on any one of the choices several times you then continue on to the page you have selected in the beginning.

How do i get rid of this box that is requiring this other step tp open pages? I have looked on line and found many others with the same problem with other installations so i know it is not the magicjack causing the problem. However, there seems that no one out there has a solution either.

Installation Failed - The Wrong Volume Is In The Drive

Windows xp to windows 7 installation failed. "The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume grmculxfrer_en_dvd". Trying to install a legal copy of windows 7 (not downloaded either, actually purchased disk). The disk is an upgrade disk and i am upgrading from windows xp (32-bit) to windows 7 (64-bit).

When i attempt to install it, when it gets to "expanding windows files" i get the error message "the wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume grmculxfrer_en_dvd into drive d:" and the installation fails regardless of whether or not i click "cancel" "ignore" or "continue". What is wrong?

I ran a system upgrade check before and everything seems to be ready for the 64-bit.

This question has been asked before but no solution proposed on this forum that i found. Everything is is so slow too! Just to get to the initial installation screen takes 20 minutes and when it begins installation it stalls at 0% for 30 minutes before it throws me the error. How can this be so hard to upgrade?

Dvd Drive Stopped Working - Error Code 32

I have just finished installing windows 7 pro 64 bit onto my pc and for the first few hours, my dvd drive worked fine. Now i boot up the next day and the dvd drive is gone from the "computer" folder. Now i am highly skilled at working with computers and this error has me stumped. When on the device page from device manager it says "a driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)" for the device status. When i look at the driver details it actually lists two drivers, the first being c:windowssystem32driverscdrom.sys. And the second being: c:windowssystem32driverspxhlpa64.sys.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the drive. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the ide driver to no avail.

My computer specs are the following:

Amd phenom ii x4 810

Gigabyte ga790fxta-ud5 motherboard

8 gb g. Skill ddr3 1600mhz ram

Lg gh22lp20 dvd burner with lightscribe (this is what i'm having issues with)

2 x 500 gb wd black sata hdd's

Ati hd 5850

Belkin n1 wireless card

Clean Installation Issues - Wrong Volume Is In Drive

Clean installation issues results various transient faults - mostly hangs. One reoccurring message is "the wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume grmchpxfrer_en_dvd"

I'm using a retail version of windows 7 premium that i purchased tuesday night. I've tried on and off for the past three nights to install w7.initially, i had xp on the machine and installed w7 via the backup of the xp files and using the network for additional patches. The install hung towards the end after i entered a password for the user account (e.g. Drives dead, mouse/keyboard unresponsive, etc).

So i hard-cycled the machine. At this point i was able to log on, but the dvd drive or my second internal drive would not function. I figured something had went wrong with the install over xp and i had no issues with trying a clean install, so i went for that it next.

Prior to the first clean install i removed my second hd and all usb devices to minimize the hardware in play. Once i started running the clean install i've seen mostly hangs during the file extraction process (3%, 11% - haven't got to 62% yet :o) ). One error message in particular i"ve seen is listed in the title "please insert volume grmchpxfrer_en_dvd".

Some things i've tried: the package and disc were in mint condition when i purchased them so hopefully there are no issues with the integrity of the dvd. My machines dvd drive is in decent shape and i have recently installed other operating systems and watched dvd's without a without a problem. I don't believe the disc or drive are issues.

I've messed around with turning off the floppy, usb and ahci support in the bios. I've tried installing the 32 and 64 bit versions. I tried to access drivers off the gigabyte cd, but that didn't work so much. At this point i'm open to new suggestions :d

My hardware:
Gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l - http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=n82e16813128059
Wd raptor - wd360gd
E6850

Striping Existing System Volume / Disk Drive

I'm just wondering can i convert my current single os disk to be striped in windows 7? I'd like to get a bit of extra hdd performance but i don't want to have to reinstall windows. So i'm wondering if you can do this on a live system disk.

My board has some hardware raid support but i think that'll wipe the disks if i try and make a raid with them. I don't think the hardware raid performance on these consumer mother boards is that great anyway so a software raid will be fine if i can do it.

Error - A Required Cd/dvd Drive Device Driver Is Missing

Windows 7 upgrade ultimate 64bit from windows vista home premium 64bit - error with "a required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing. I can see many posts for this problem, but the different solutions all confuse me. I am not a pc techie. I was trying to run windows 7 64bit ultimate upgrade from windows vista 64bit home premium on my pc. Before i ran windows 7 upgrade using the 64bit disk i bought from a retailer in sheffield england, i checked on the microsoft website and downloaded windows upgrade advisor.

This reported a number of minor issues, which i dealt with. It did not report any issue with my motherboard or cd/dvd device. I also downloaded easy transfer, but as i had recently rebuilt my pc i did not have many files to copy over so i have not yet used it. I have now rolled back the install, after getting very frustrated trying to obtain the "driver"some of the postings on the web suggest:buying an external usb cd/dvd device. I might do this and try again getting an update for ite it8211 ata/atapi controller driver - whatever that means usb install option involving ripping the disk into a iso image and then making a bootable usb stick.

Why on earth do i need to do this? Surely using a usb external dvd/cd device and putting into that the windows 7 upgrade disk will do the same job?More important what is an iso image? How do i create it? Why should i have to do this? This software has cost me gbp180. 00 when i bought it from currys retail store sheffield uk w/c jun 21st 2010, and i cannot get it to work. It is not at all satisfactory! I deliberately waited till now before buying to make sure a all the bugs were ironed out!

Obviously they are not!My pc was bought new from mesh in may 2009 and the build detail is:mesh desktop pc model xgs pii 955amd phenom ii x4 955 black quad core processor am3 3. 20ghz, 8mb cache ddr2/3asus m4a78-e mainboard amd 790gx hybrid crossfirex - am2+ phenom ii, ddr2- atx8192mb 800mhz dual channel ddr2 sdram2 x 750gb serial ata2 hard drive with 3mb buffer (1. 5tb) raid 0 configuration (stripe)samsung 22x dual layer dvd writer super format +r/-r/rw/ram this shows in device hardware as tsstcorp cddvdw sh-s223b scsi cdrom device.

The driver is located in c:windowssystem32driverscdrom.sys1gb ati hd4890 graphics accelerator hd 3300 gpu - hybrid crossfire xpcie gigabit lan controller featuring ai net 2 - asus m4a78 proi will also try to call microsoft support on 0844 800 2400 using access code 1233 when prompted. However, i wonder if anyone else who has had the same problem with a similar machine can advise how they sorted out the issue.

Asus Drw 22b2s Cd/dvd Drive Driver Error

When installing windows 7, i have finally managed to get past the installation screen without it blue screening (that, however, is a whole different story) and now it stops before the installation begins, complaining that the cd driver can not be found. It then proceeds to look for the driver (on the cd drive, no less, proving to me that it must be working decently enough) and finds nothing. Browsing for more folders reveals nothing.

System info: i'm installing the 32-bit version from from a dvd onto an old machine with an 80gb hard drive and sufficient ram. The only dvd drive is an asus drw 22b2s cd/dvd drive, for which there are no drivers available online, nor did it need any to run on windows 2000 which was the previous os on the machine (however i've wiped the hard drive for the installation). The copy of windows 7 is a legit version, but still won't install. I've been browsing through other topics here and on different sites and none of their solutions work. Is there a way to get around this - or better yet, a solution?

Dvd Drive Wont Read Disks - Error Please Insert Disk

I recently upgraded to windows 7. The drive worked fine as i used it to install the os. On start up windows wouldn't recognize the drive. Finding that this was a common problem on dual boot win7 x64 i tried the 3 standard fixes (f8 on start up, change letter of drive, upper and lower field reg edit) i briefly had the drive working but after about 10 minutes (while i was using the drive) it crashed and disappeared.

I went to the manufacturers site and downloaded the latest software for it, windows installed this and said it was working fine, i can now see the drive but it wont read anything, every time i put a disk in (any disk) it tells me the drive is empty when it isn't and spits it out. I have tried the windows troubleshoot program from the support site, it detects a problem but cant fix it.

The device manager shows the drive as installed and working. The lens shouldn't need cleaning as the drive is less than a month old.
