Power Service Conflict With Screensaver

My screensaver and other standby mode options have had problems starting. (For example, if i set my computer to a screensaver after 1 min, a closed screen after 3 min, and sleep after 5 min, none of them work)i went through and did a clean boot, to find that the screensaver and other options still did not start. It was only after i selected "diagnostic startup, " did the screensaver finally appear. After enabling services one by one, i discovered that it was the "power" microsoft service interfering with the screensaver starting up. Is there a way to fix the power service so that i may enable it without having it interfere with my screensaver?

Power Saver / Graphics Bug

My asus computer has this power4gear battery performance tracker/ruinmylife software. I should mention that i always keep my laptop plugged in for the duration of my session, then unplug it after shutting down. When i turn on my computer, everything is fine. But when i start to do anything, anything, an extremely intrusive and dictatorial performance pop up invades my computer screen, telling me that it is switching power plans (nothing changes during this 'switch'), and will not go away or minimize for at least two minutes.

If i try to do anything while it is on the screen, the screen immediately goes black and stays that way until the pop up decides to call it quits. I know it has something to do with nvidia graphics, but if i click on the tray icon nothing happens. Occasionally, after childishly trying to click the pop up away roughly 50 times it starts to fade white, behaving like a non-responsive program (which it obviously is). Every so often the pop up appears multiple times in one session, even if i'm doing one thing for the duration of my time on the computer.

If i'm gaming, i am hard-pressed to minimize the program if the occasion calls for it because bringing it back up each time dims the screen more and more. Is there anything i can do or press to make this pop up go away? It's just really, really annoying!

Screen Saver Does Not Work - Display Never Shuts Off

The screen saver never works and the display never shuts off. How do i fix this? I have no idea how to make the screen saver work or get the display to automatically shut off. The preview for the screen saver doesn't even work. Everything i've read said this is typically because of a wireless mouse, but i do not have a wireless mouse or anything else attached to my laptop.

Monitor Shut Off After Boot Screen

Can't believe i have to ask this problem again, previously my problem is my screen gets lower resolution when windows supposed to shows login screen (honestly it's remain unsolved) now my monitor suddenly just turn off when windows supposed to shows login screen (even though i can clearly hear the login screen's sound. )

It works fine after i press the power button to power up my laptop, the monitor showing bios & windows boot screen, but after that my monitor just turn off. Even when i'm performing clean boot (disable all startup items and disable other than microsoft services via msconfig) this problems still remains.

The only thing i could do it's just press the power button to shut down my laptop improperly then press the power button again to power up, then the problem's gone. Why this problem come on my 1st boot, suddenly gone in 2nd boot and sometime happens again when i'm trying to restart or power up again after shutting down my laptop from my 2nd boot?

Need to upgrade my graphic driver? Already have the newest version

Win7 Lock Disables Monitor Shut Off

I worked with medical records, and i found a screen lock that also disabled the task manager, but that feature doesn't work with 7. I tried using 7's built in lock feature, but my monitors don't shut off at the 5 minute idle time setting i've set. When i use the old lock, the monitors go off after being idle, even when i have my tv card running underneath.

I tried searching to see if others have reported that problem here, but i didn't come up with anything. Has anyone run into this problem and come up with any work-arounds or fixes?

Unexpected Shut Down And Restore Point Does Not Work

For a few days i have been having unexpected shut downs. The computer just turns off. I thought it may be due to the heat wave. The room is hot and there may have been brown outs in my neighborhood. But it is not hot now and it still does this. Norton didn't turn up anything in a scan. I tried to go to a restore point from before these problems but upon restart i get an error message saying it could not complete the restore point, probably due to an anti-virus program running. So i turned off norton and tried again and it still won't go to a restore point. Suggestions?

Usb Devices Won't Work When Laptop Is On Battery Power

I've recently discovered that i am unable to use my wacom tablet or my usb powered external hard drive while my laptop is not plugged in. They simply won't receive power from the usb ports even though i know for a fact they all work. I recently upgraded from vista to w7, and did not have this problem while running vista. Is there a way i can change this? It's a little irritating for me, as i sometimes like to take notes with my tablet using programs like corel sketchpad, but i can't plug my laptop in during class.

Cannot Get Second Monitor To Work

I am connecting a second monitor to my sony vaio-vgn-sz650n-by vga. Before upgrading from vista to 7, it was working just fine. After upgrading, i plug it in, screen blinks, but no display on second monitor. It is a dell g2210 by the way. I tried restarting my computer with monitor connected, without it connected, and went into the display settings where you can change resolution, etc. On the different monitors, and nothing there. Tried to "detect" monitor, still nothing. Tried updating the driver, nothing(maybe wrong driver?). I would love to get this problem solved as school is starting and i need to use my computer a lot, and really like having dual monitors.

Cannot Get Snap To Work On Right Hand Side Of Monitor

Snap Feature Does Not Work On Inside Of Dual Monitor Setup

I have windows 7 home premium x64 fully updated. So far it's great. But i have two monitors, primary 1440x900 and secondary 1280x1024 with the secondary monitor on the right of the primary monitor. When i try to "snap" a window to the edge of either monitor that is next to the other monitor, nothing happens. I was wondering if this was a typical problem people were having or if it was just me and if there was any way to make it work or if there was a patch for it. (Google chrome's built-in "snap" feature can use the inside of the monitors).

Screensaver Inactive Across Dual Monitors

In using dual monitors - one dvi and one vga - i cannot get the screen saver to show across both monitors using windows 7 (although this was possible in xp).

In xp, you could use dual/two monitors - one dvi and one vga - and they will both screen save; however, windows 7 will not (similar to vista). I recently installed an evaluation copy from a dvd on a dell 745 with a dvi card at work, and on a hp with vista at home, and they're both doing the same thing: the dvi will screen save but the vga will not. You can have the same machine running xp with dual monitors - one vga and one dvi - and when the screen saver clicks in xp, it the screen saver is active across both monitors but vista nor windows 7 will screen save across both monitors.

Display Titles In Desktop / Screensaver

I've just gotten a new windows 7 computer and have chosen the slide show desktop background as my options. I've downloaded a number of the "my themes" free download packs from microsoft's site. The images are lovely, but i don't see any option to display the location/title of each file as they are cycling through. I'd like to know where the picture is from when i see it.

I also hope to create some of my own. Is there an option i'm missing that will show the name/location of the picture so i can see who/what it is as it appears on the screen?I'd also like to be able to show the file names of the photos on the screen saver so i can more quickly identify picture/person/function as it shows on the screen. Thanks for any advice/direction on this.

Screen Saver Does Not Appear

I cannot get my screen saver to display . I have chosen my photos and followed all the instructions and clicked ok ( but the apply button is not highlighted)i have chosen to use a personalized theme as all the standard ones seem to  show that there will be no screen saver. It shows what my screen saver will be and i can view it on the preview, but the screen just goes black after the computer is idle for the set time (10 mins) i had no trouble with my old computer and windows xp.

Screen Saver Not Working

With respect to the screen saver. I have reinstalled the nvidia 9800 gt driver pursuant to suggestions found in this forum. I haven't made any changes to the system recently. I noticed shortly after installation of win 7 that the screen saver worked intermittently at best. I did a clean install january 1, 2010. I was able to get it to work by changing the number of minutes column. Now nothing works. I have changed out mice to no avail. It appears that quite a few people have had this problem. It makes me wonder why ms hasn't included a patch in the updates. Does anyone have any further suggestions or workarounds.

Screen Saver Slows Down Login

I upgraded from vista ultimate to win7 ultimate a number of months ago. Everything works fine, except that whenever i activate any screen-saver, and it runs for a few hours, getting back to the login screen takes five minutes. If the screen-saver runs for a few minutes, no problem. My solution is just to lock the computer, but i wish i could use my screen-saver photos (happens on other screen-savers also). I don't want to do a clean install; not worth it for this inconvenience. Any other suggestions?

Show Labels On Screen Saver Or Photos

Using screen saver or doing a slide show, how do you get the photos to show their labels (place and date etc. )When you do a slide show or when they are scrolling through a screen saver?

Slow Screen Saver In Live Photo Gallery

I have used the windows live photo gallery screen saver satisfactorily since installing windows 7 about five months ago, but for some unknown reason i now find that the photos take about 4-5 seconds to start showing photos once the 'wait' period has expired and when i move my mouse it takes another 4-5 seconds to use the computer. In both cases, during the 4-5 seconds i have a black blank screen. It works fine when using the photos screen saver, except the photos are square and not wide screen. Previously, it was virtually instantaneous - is there some setting or repair etc i need to carry out ?

Dual Monitor Problem - 2nd Monitor Detected Black

Ok, so i have a dell that was running vista and two monitors. When i upgraded to windows 7 pro i ran into the infamous black screen problem and fixed it. However, i only fixed my main monitor. When i open the display window, both of my monitors are detected but my secondary monitor shows a black screen and the monitor itself says there is no signal detected from my pc.

The strange thing is my pc thinks its working (i can drag a window from my working monitor towards the black one and it moves out of my working monitor into the black screen). I currently have both of them plugged in using a dvi to vga splitter and i have also updated the drivers by clicking the "update driver" button in the monitor properties window. Please help if you can!

Cannot Move Windows From One Monitor To Other - Dual Monitor Setup

I have two monitors of the same resolution connected to an ati radeon hd 4300/4500 video card. In windows 7 extended mode i see a full working desktop on one monitor, but only the background picture on the other - the four-square flag motif again a blue background with wispy lines, butterfly etc.

No taskbar, icons or anything else. On one occasion briefly the mouse cursor appeared on it instead of on the full desktop image. If i try to drag a window on to the second monitor it won't go there. The settings are landscape with two mointors "1" and "2". I have two images but how can i use the second one?

Windows Will Not Shut Down

Since installing all my drivers and programs on ultimate 64 windows will not shut down. If i try to restart or shut down it just sits there on the logging off screen forever. There is occasional disk activity. I've tried safe mode and windows shuts down perfectly fine. So i can only assume its a driver of some system setting causing the problem, all the drivers are the latest and are also used on a dual boot vista system.

Pc Will Not Shut Down Completely

I have setup a dual boot system, xp & 7, on two separate hard drives. Everything was working fine for a couple of weeks. I am not sure what suddenly caused the problem but windows 7 will no longer shut down completely on its own. It spins at the shutting down screen. I have to hold to power button in to get the computer to shut down. I have tried restoring the computer to an earlier version without success. I have closed the anti-virus program and all other programs. I have also stopped unnecessary processes. It still will not shut down automatically. Windows xp still runs fine and shut down completely on its own.

Pc Will Not Sleep Or Shut Down

My computer will not shut down or sleep, i am running windows 7 64-bit on an hp pavillion slimline. When i click either of these options it tells me it is going to sleep or shutting down, but the actual computer never does. It stays on the shutting down screen with the circled icon constantly spinning. Eventually it just cuts out like after some time, ill say about 5-10 mins, then restarts saying there was an issue shutting down. So for the past couple of days i been trying to fix this problem and it seems i cant do it on my own.
