All Programs Not Responding

All programs say "not responding" on my new laptop. I have an acer aspire 5532 i bought in march of 2010. I have no viruses and have tried everything to fix this issue. I use my laptop for online classes and it has became a hassle. Windows media player will say not responding, even playing games will say it and the internet does it also. I have disabled add ons and have performed about every task i can.

Programs Not Responding

Im running windows 7 ultimate 32 bit i started getting a not responding message a few months a go for only a few seconds when i tried to open projects in cubase 5. Now i cant even get the projects to open, my computer gets stuck running with (not responding) showing and it never recovers. I tried running ccleaner, updates, latest bios, driver updates but to no avail. Im not getting a clear answer on this problem. Ive searched forums for the last two days. Is there a solution or just speculation, oh and companies trying to sell registry tools. Which don't work by the way either.

Programs Not Responding / Lockups

Installed windows 7 (64 bit) on a brand new machine 2 days ago and all installed without issue.generally everything seems to be working well. Running an amd phenom ii black edition quad core on a gigabyte ma790xt-ud4p mobo, with 4gb ram and a saphire hd 2600 pro graphics card. Apart from live messenger not being able to login (separate issue and being addressed), most of the time the machine works very well, however at apparently random times programs will lock up and report 'not responding' using task manager to force a close doesn't work and executing a shutdown fails also, it just hangs with either "shutting down" or "logging off".

Twice i have left it for over 10 mins and still it doesn't shutdown, resulting in me executing a hard reset to recover it. This has happened with "windows explorer" at least 3 times, "google picasa v3. 6" again several times but usually when i'm executing a file action (for example delete photo) - perhaps this is a pointer to file activity?  Other programs have also done it but i don't recall which ones whilst i can usually continue to use the machine whilst the program is "not responding" it is annoying when it can't be forced to close.

I have looked at other posts but they appear to be slightly different in encountered events.
To start with i was really quite pleased with windows 7, but so far messenger won't play, outlook 2000 won't run reliably (yeah it's out of support) and now this. Maybe i should just stick with xp!

Programs Not Responding, System Hangs

Windows 7 x64 random errors, including programs not responding, system hangs, system not shutting down, programs not starting. I'm so frustrated right now regarding all these issues. I had installed win7 64bit clean install a few months ago and everything worked fine till a few days ago, then all of a sudden my programs stooped responding, didn't start, couldn't shut down different programs, including media player, and even wouldn't shut down with ctrl+alt+del.

I got so frustrated that i reformatted my drives and did a clean install od win7 again (multiple times over the last 2 days now). The installation seems to go fine and i install my programs (office, alcohol 120, winrar, firefox, drivers for graphics and sound), and windows update, and hook up my external drives, speakers and printer. After that windows starts acting up, programs will open but not respond, won't shut down, explorer will crash and not restart, if i try to shut down the non-responsive programs (including my computer), they will not shut down and instead explorer will shut down.

My computer will open but take forever to load and right clicking anything will cause the system to hang. I have to restart in order to make anything shut down, and on shutdown, the system just hangs on the shutdown screen, forcing me to shutdown with the power button. I've tried system restore to restore to before i installed any programmes, but the problem persists. It gets so bad that i am unable to do anything at all (surprisingly the browser always works), and i've done a clean install 5-6 times already with the same problems.

Not Responding

So i just recently bought a laptop, and received a free upgrade to windows 7, but ever since i upgraded (4 days ago) it seems to freeze alot, and give me the "not responding" in the title bar. I end the task, but then cant open anything without it happening again. My only solution so far is to restart the computer every time, but i don't want to be doing this once every 5 minutes. Is there an upgrade or a patch to solve this? Or why is this happen so often to me? Any answer are welcome!

Explorer Is Not Responding

I purchased the 3-pack family upgrade windows 7 package. I have two computers, one is a sony vaio running 32-bit os, the other is a dell xps m1530 running 64-bit os. Both machines came factory loaded with windows vista and were not experiencing any problems. I formatted my disk drives before upgrading to make sure there were no ghost files or anything vista left behind.

Both installs went perfect with no issues. Right away both machines experience the same problem. When i try to copy and paste files through windows explorer (pics, mp3's, documents. You name it), the system just hangs and i get the message "windows explorer is not responding". The only times i can copy and paste is right after a reboot. If the system stays running for longer than 10 minutes and i try to copy and paste files it hangs. It doesn't matter where i try to copy files to other directories or usb key's. It just won't work. It only does this when trying to copy and paste. Other than that there is no problems.

Windows Explorer Not Responding

When on desktop, sometimes in firefox, the taskbar will not pop up and then i right click to open a program and the screen turns white and a window opens that says "windows explorer not responding". Mostly from the desktop. I have an hp pavilion a 6757c and was given the windows 7 home premium upgrade. Everything has been pretty good until the past week or two when i try to open a shortcut from the desktop, i get a window that says "windows explorer not responding" before the "error window" comes, the screen turns to an opaque white.

This has happened quite a few times while in a program in the adobe cs4 software suite which is very aggravating because i am taking on-line classes from the art institute of pittsburgh and this has happened in the middle of a design project or assignment required for school. I have tried the "wait for program to respond" option and left it alone for over two hours hoping to not lose my progress only to have to restart anyway and begin the project/assignment from "scratch". Please advise or offer a "download-able" solution.

Mouse Stopped Responding

Yesterday the mouse of my computer completely stopped responding. It syncs fine with the wireless receiver, and has fresh batteries in it. Read on to see that i've tested both the usb ports and tried using other mice.

To fix the problem i have already tried:

1. Test the mouse on another computer. It works fine.

2. Test a different mouse that has been confirmed to work on the problem computer. No response from that one either.

3. Test both wired and wireless mice that have been tested. New batteries in the wireless mice. No response.

4. Test the usb ports by plugging in both thumb drives and a printer into each usb port. All ports work and load fine.
5. Update driver - no update found
6. Uninstall driver, reboot - mouse not loaded.
7. Uninstall intellipoint, which updated 2 days ago. No improvement.
8. Uninstall other windows update from 2 days ago. Still nothing.
9. Beg the computer for mercy because i have a client waiting for a product in 2 days. Nothing.

This computer is running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. The test laptop is running win 7 ultimate 32 bit. The mouse which is normally allocated to this computer is a microsoft wireless optical mouse 2. 0

Program Cause Office Not Responding

I am using endnote x1, window 7 pro and office 07. Whenever i minimize my word doc (while using or not using endnote x1) and try to restore it, or click "alt + tab" from other file to word/ word to other file, my word doc & window will not be responding, and i cant even move my mouse for, like, 1 minute. This problem seemed can be solved if i disable endnote's addin in word but then i need to use it! I don't face this problem when i use vista instead of 7. Is it there any way to solve this prob?

Dns Server Is Not Responding

I use my laptop at home and work. At work i can no longer connect to the internet, my laptop is connecting to the router, but the router isn't connecting to the internet, my isp has confirmed that my service is working fine. The message i am getting is that the "dns server is not responding". I've gone into the ncpa. Cpl and looked at the settings there for "internet protocol version 4 (tcp/ipv4)" and they are as my isp has recommended, all automatic. Obviously i can't get any online help whilst at work - so having to ask all this from home - very frustrating, self employed, and this is killing me!

I am using an adsl router, and ethernet cable, and i have windows 7. I have tried another router with wireless, and that is doing exactly the same thing. Laptop is connecting to internet at home no problem. Everything was fine last thursday, and on friday it wouldn't work, can't remember if i had any updates on thursday when closing down - but probably. By the way, i'm not very it savvy, and a lot of the jargon used on these forums is baffling to me, please can any answers be written as if you're talking to a total idiot! I can follow commands, but i don't understand what i'm doing!

Live Mail Is Not Responding

Recently windows live mail has stopped responding. I am running windows 7. I installed windows live essentials and the mail programme has been running ok for a couple of months. Suddenly it has stopped working. It goes through the sign-on page and displays the main application interface, but the hourglass icon is displayed and i cannot access any option. The title banner says programme not responding and eventually i have to force close it. While i have it open i seem unable to use internet explorer either. Whilst this persists i cannot access any of my stored emails or my local calendar or contacts. It affects all users on my pc in the same way.

When i try to change the printer properties, the program (autodesk inventer 2010) displays a "printer not responding". Message for several minutes, and then works correctly. I have tried:

Disabled ip6 on the plotter and the pc ran the microsoft troubleshooting program.

Server Is Busy Program Not Responding

Recently i have noticed that when i am working on my laptop, windows 7 stalls and gives an error message of server busy and program not responding. I have purchased the system in april and have only added 3 programs that i use for work. When i use the self help or the troubleshooting program, the system says there is no problem and to get help online. I end up manually shutting down and restarting the system. It works for a while but does not remain consistent.

I have also noticed my outlook program seems to blink in the search section of the menu even though i have not used this feature. Can anyone provide any insight as to why this is happening? Oh i almost forgot, on the help menu it states there is a link to assist me and suggest that i "click here" for the answer. Well there is nothing to click on and when i click technical support link, it stalls again. Help me please.

Program Not Responding - Spinning Wheel

Frequent program not responding.system locks up with spinning wheel lasting from 30 seconds to 2 minutes before program is available again. It happens with just about every program and without warning. Yes, my hard drive light on the front panel of the tower is lit the whole time the spinning wheel is visible on the display. Does anyone have a solution?

I have a dell xps 400 series desktop pc upgraded from win xp pro to windows 7 home premium. Prior to upgrade, memory was expanded to 3 gb and win xp worked fine. Recently, i replaced the original graphics card with a 512 mb card. These are the only differences from the original configuration. I already have the latest bios and did a clean reinstall of windows 7 and ran all of the windows updates. Windows experience rating is 3. 5.

Everything looks good in the device manager. Everything operates quickly and normally until a program stops responding and spinning wheel appears for at least 30 seconds up to 2 minutes. I have symantec endpoint protection 11. 0. 5 (just the antivirus portion installed). I tried other antivirus software but it did not make any difference. Windows firewall is enabled and windows defender is disabled. Dell will not address my problem because pc is too old.

Usb Midi Devices Not Responding

Just recently my laptop won't let me use my midi keyboards. I'm on win 7 64-bit. The drivers are installed and it recognizes them, but when i try and use one it tells me the midi port is in use whenever no other program is open. I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling the drivers but this doesn't solve the issue. I also tried this fix from m-audio that's supposed to work if you've installed too many midi devices: Drivers&f=84 but this didn't work either.

It's not the hardware as i have a dual-boot and they work fine on the other partition. It was working last week and i can't figure out what is causing it. I have 3 midi keyboard controllers and all of them are showing this issue.system restore isn't an option as i had it turned off. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Dns Server Responding Problem

I recently added my hp notebook with windows 7 to my home network. Originally, both computers were visible on the network (my pc is running xp), but now it goes in and out. Troubleshooter says "your computer seems to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (dns server) is not responding. " I tried restarting the router and computers (which should inform you of my knowledge level haha), but this did not help.

Is there anything i can do on my own before heading out to best buy? Also, and i don't know if this is related but it began at the same time as the network issue. The notebook has run checkdisk several times upon start up, half the time freezing at the countdown. It hasn't happened the last two times i rebooted, so i don't know what that was about.

Sound Control Panel Not Responding

Windows 7 x64 sound control panel not responding (except for volume). Not working: change system sounds, manage audio devices, playback devices, recording devices. All the sudden my windows 7 sound controls stopped working. I have a asus p6t se motherboard running windows 7 x64. Here's what works:

Audio icon -> volume control options

Which shows the following sound devices:

- Speakers (hd audio device)
- Digital audio s/pdif (hd audio device)
- Digital audio s/pdif optical (hd audio device)
- Ati hdmi output (ati hd audio device)
- Headphones (hd audio device)

What doesn't work (they all produced nothing when clicked on):

Audio icon -> playback devices
Audio icon -> recording devices
Audio icon -> sounds
Control panel view by large icon -> sound icon

Control panel view by category -> change system sounds, manage audio devices

Anybody have any clue how to get these controls back and working?

I tried:-

* Un-installing the audio driver and reinstalling automatically

* Updating the audio driver from asus's web site

The weird thing is it was working last night (apr/16) when i changed the system sound to headphones. When i restarted the computer, the above symptoms appeared and the sound was stuck to my hdmi connected monitor instead of my 5. 1 speakers. When i tried to do a system restore to april 15th, the above symptoms is still there. Weird since it was working after the 15th.

Office 2007 Programs Do Not Appear In Default Programs List

I have both and microsoft office 2007 installed on my windows 7 computer and i would like to use microsoft office as the default for all files it can open but it does not appear in the default programs list.

In fact, except for microsoft office outlook, none of my microsoft office 2007 applications appear in the default programs list! does appear, and when i click on it in the list and click choose defaults for this program many of the defaults are already set to the equivalent microsoft office application. But there are some associations (such as text files) that are not correctly associated, and possibly others that i don't know about. I'd like to click on microsoft word and then click set this program as default so that it will automatically open all the files it can.

Error Message - Program Is Not Responding Close Down Anyway

Error message "program is not responding close down anyway" while using music programs, playing game and during system shutdown. Audio glitch with freezing - please helpthe other day my 64-bit windows 7 started messing up with audio. The moment i try to play a song on itunes it freezes and stays on the 0:00 time mark. I have to ctrl+alt+delete it to get it to close (it registers as "not responding").

Same thing happens with youtube, and any game i try to play. Even when i shut off my computer it has the "program is not responding close down anyway?" Prompt for the little audio noise when its turning off/logging off. When it has to play a sound for a usb being plugged in, it just plays really low static. Unfortunately, i am an idiot and don't have a full backup, only an online backup of about 2 gigs and i haven't updated in a while. I have a physical external hard drive now and backed it up, but obviously if it now working now, that wont do much.

Usb Devices Stop Responding After Upgrade

After upgrade to windows 7 64 bit home premium, usb connected devices, particularly hard drives, stop responding shortly after start up. Includes iphone, ipod, hp personal media drives. I purchased a brand new hp pavilion e9140f running a amd phenom ii x4 925 chip that had vista 64 bit home premium installed. It was eligible for free upgrade to windows 7 64 bit home premium.

I followed all instructions for upgrade and it went fine, except that now any storage device connected via a usb stops responding during file transfers. This includes my hp personal media drive that is brand new, my iphone, my ipod, etc. The only thing working is the hp pocket media drive which slides into it's own slot. I've tried uninstalling all usb devices in device manager and rebooting. Same problem. So now i can't copy files or back up my pc to an external drive.

I can't transfer music to my ipod or iphone. Basically, my $2, 000 pc is useless. This appears to be a known issue with windows 7 but there's no fix. I have tried everything except reverting back to vista where all these problems didn't exist. My usb devices worked. So this is definitely something to do with windows 7 upgrade. Can anyone help me with this. After 4 hours on phone with hp, nothings been fixed. They can't figure it out.

Display Driver Stopped Responding And Has Recovered

Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver intel graphics accelerator drivers for windows 7(r) stopped responding. Flashes flashes and locks up and recently windows itself failed and rebooted!? As mentioned above, this happened 1 day after plugging it in and starting it up and running the windows updates. There was an error in the updates so after speaking with the store rep, he suggested running it again, so i did. Same issue again the very next day.

I again returned to the store and was told to do a recovery and start over this time not to do the windows updates. After 3 + hours, i was finished. It took a day or two but again the machine repeated itself and has continued to have the same display issues and locking up! Again today, i went back to the store, now my forth trip, and this time the rep found an intel display driver that was newer and he installed it on the spot.

This was at noon, at 3:00pm after on the advice of the rep, after doing the windows updates, again the very same display driver failures. I am at a complete loss and am hoping this gets typed and posted before locking up again. Hpg60-550ca t6600 4gb ram 250gb drive  and yes i've been to hp's site as well, no luck.

Windows Live Mail Program Is Not Responding

Windows live mail program is "not responding" after installation with windows 7. After upgrading from windows vista to windows 7, i downloaded windows live mail for handling e-mail. Upon completion of the initial installation, windows live mail properly imported my e-mail accounts from previous windows mail program. However, after closing windows live mail program after its initial installation, my attempts to open the program are unsuccessful.

After selecting the program from the start menu, the program window opens, but the e-mail portion of the screen is blank and the program hangs up. When i click on the window, i get the notice that windows live mail is "not responding". I have uninstalled the program and re-installed it after rebooting. This did not fix the problem. What can i do to fix this so that i my access my e-mail from multiple accounts?

I have attempted to download and install a driver from amd web site, which is supposed to be the correct driver. When i attempt to install this driver my computer restarts because of a corrupted driver. Windows won't let me install the driver that is supposed to be the correct one. The graphics card is a ati 4650 hd. How do i fix?
