Keyboard Skips Key Letters In Ie8

I have found a problem with the internet explorer 8 and windows 7. When the last windows update took place, it caused a problem when you are typing on any search engine or msn messenger. When you are typing in any other program, ( microsoft word, etc. ) There is no problems. What happens when you type online, is the typing skips letters. I have one system with ie8 and windows xp on it and the other system that has windows 7 with ie 8.

I spent about 6 hours trying cables, keyboards and other things and finally load safari on the windows 7 system and haven't had the typing problem with it. I would like to go back to ie 8, but i can't afford to have to retype the missing letters. If you can get this fixed, then i would gladly go back to internet explorer.

Missing Letters On Keyboard

My keyboard's letters fade away after a few weeks of use. I have alerted microsoft to this problem and they have replaced my keyboard, very promptly, twice, making this my third keyboard. I contacted microsoft and asked them what i could do. Apparently nothing! I tried painting the keys with clear nail varnish to no avail. I was hoping that perhaps microsoft could embed the letters on the keys - but so far, nothing has been done to my knowledge.microsoft have been more than helpful in every other respect. Does someone out there have a solution?

The @ Key On Keyboard

I have just bought and started using a netbook. I've got windows 7 running and have installed office 2007 professional. The keyboard layout is qwerty. When i use the number 2 key to add the @ symbol to what i am writing, i get speech-marks (") and visa versa with the speech-marks key i get an @.
The number 3 key give a pound (£) symbol instead of the hash. I have been to the control panel to check the region and the keyboard settings, but it all looks normal. Is there a way of changing these keys to they way they are printed on the keyboard?

Ie8 Keyboard Latency In Activex Control

We have a customactive-x control which is not much more than a windows multiline text box wrapped upas a . Ocx that we use for text entry on an intranet application. On ie7 is works fine, and has for years, but on ie8 we get this annoying latency between typing in the text box and the text rendering. There are no keypress or onchange events handled by ie, although those events are exposed to the container, there's nothing connected to them in ie, just a text box to type into. Need a solution fairly soon since our users are all upgrading to ie8, and the .net rewrite of the app is months away.

Ie8 Installed Problem With Ms 6000 Wireless Keyboard

Running xp 5. 1. 2600 sp 3. Installing ie 8 caused two strange events. The slide show function for screen saver would not deploy. It would work with the preview function but not the way it is supposed to work. I was also using the ms 6000 wireless keyboard.

After installing ie8, the screen saver function started to work and my ms 6000 wireless keyboard receiver went dead (no green light). Changed batteries in keyboard but no luck. Don't know what ie 8 did but half of it was bad.

I have an acer laptop running windows 7 ultimate.connected to this laptop is usb splitter to connect external keyboard and mouse for easy desktop use. Within the past 2-3 weeks, i can no longer lock the laptop using win+l through the laptop keyboard, but can using the usb keyboard. It's the oddest thing. I've unplugged the keyboard, waited for the machine to signal it has been disconnected, and still failed. Also tried rebooting with no luck. Anyone ever heard or seen of anything like this before?

Laptop Keyboard Issue - Key Sticks Randomly

I'm running windows 7 pro 64 bit on a toshiba laptop. Basically it started with the 0 key not working properly, it would take two or three presses to make a 0 come up on the screen. I took it off the computer and cleaned all the hair and dust out and now the 0 key will randomly "sticks" itself. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it underneath the key, it's not physically stuck at all, it's entirely digital.

It's almost always stuck when i turn on the computer, so my sign in password gets instantly filled up. If you tap the 0 key it stops but will randomly start again in the middle of things. In fact it's gone twice so far as i'm writing this. I have cleaned and checked the area under the key many times, it also sticks even when the key is not even on the computer and you don't have to be touching the computer at all for it to happen. Sometimes i'll come in to the room and hear constant beeping as it's 0ing away when no one's even near it.

It also does this quite frequently, making it a major annoyance. I've done some searching but the typical answer to similar questions is "clean under the key" or "turn of sticky keys" neither of which is the solution here. Is it possible for it to be some sort of software problem or is it definitely hardware?  Am i at the point of needing to take the computer in for repair? I'd really rather avoid this option since it's my main computer at the moment and it's also no longer under warranty. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Logitech G11 Keyboard Key Repeat Delay

I have been a user of the logitech g11 for about three months or so now, and i love it. Frankly, it's an awesome keyboard. Unfortunately, i have an issue with it. The '/@ key doesn't work properly - that is, it doesn't type anything until after the repeat delay has passed, at which point it repeats as normal. Basically, the first instance of the symbol i am typing never appears. I initially thought this was an issue with the keyboard itself - a hardware issue - but recently i used the keyboard on another user, and it worked as normal, leading me to conclude that it is a software issue - but whether it is caused by the os or its drivers i don't know. Operating system: windows 7 ultimate 32-bit

Raid Hdd Was Not Assigned Drive Letters After Install

Boot manager installs on wrong hdd and raid hdd's was not assigned drive letters after install. This is first time i installed windows 7 and after updating motherboard bios and mixing the hdd boot order i find out in the end that the files windows require has been installed on my mirror raid instead of the system disk stripe raid. This annoys me a bit, do i have to plug out all my hdd's except the ones i want to install windows 7 on to ensure the booting is independent of other hdd's?

(Another annoyance was that the mirror raid did not show up under my computer, which after installing every driver known to man i found that a drive letter had not been assigned. )

Security Issue With Sharing Root Drive Letters

I use the wifi ability of my lg ally smartphone to access lan shares with estrong file explorer. When i built a new pc which runs windows 7 home premium os, i shared a couple folders and tested to make sure i can access them from my phone. What i saw was unbelievable.

According to any information i have been able to find about sharing files and folders in windows 7, it is supposed to be impossible to share a "root drive" (the entire drive content, like "c:" and all its sub-folders) in windows 7. You can share a folder, but not a whole drive. Well, estrong file explorer, running in lan access mode by wifi here, is showing me all the drive letters (i have several) of my windows pc, and their sub-folder content on the screen of the ally phone! Even my other cat5 connected pcs can only see the folders i have set for sharing on the win7 pc. I am only stopped from accessing a few folders on the win7 computer's c drive. Aside from that, i can access every drive letter and all of their folders and files, even though i do not have shared folders on most of those drives.

Of course i do not have any of the root drive letters shared because windows 7 won't even let me attempt to do that. I can't explain how this is working, but it seems like something microsoft would want to look into. I can repeat this action any time i want. I did have to create a user account for the phone to even get into the win 7 pc via wifi, but with that information the phone seems to have full access to the entire pc.

Dual Boot Works But Drive Letters Don't Match

I took a 1 tb drive and split it into 2 primary partitions. I installed xp on partition c with an image. I installed win 7 on partition d from scratch.

The dual booting works fine. However, in win 7, the drive i installed win 7 on is listed as drive c. The drive i installed the xp image on is listed as drive d. The files for each, however, are listed on the original drive letters (xp on c and win 7 on d). It really gets confusing with i install a program in win 7. It claims it's installing the program on drive c but it's actually installing it on drive d.

Any idea what happened, or how to correct this? I've set up systems to dual boot in the past and never ran into this problem.

Volume "failed" After Assigning Drive Letters

I have a 300 gb hard drive on a win 7 ultimate system, partitioned into 4 dynamic disks. I reassigned one of the drive letters yesterday with the disk management plug-in. Now the disk management plugin shows the four pieces with the relabeled piece split into two pieces and shows a fifth volume of size 300g (the entire hard drive). The fifth piece is described as "failed" and "missing". In addition, the d: drive is now as labeled as the system drive, although c: is the system drive. Reactivating the missing volume does not succeed. Suggestions, anyone?

Re Enter Activation Key - Product Key Invalid

I've just purchased a new pc and now using the original software of windows 7. That operating system has been used before on my previous pc, but i took the hard drive and put it into my new pc slot which makes my previous pc left with no hard drive. I installed the software using the original copy and try to re-enter the activation key, but it does not work, what should i do? I though that it will work because i am still using my previous hard drive.

Win 7 64-bit Doesn't Distinguish Between Ie8 64-bit And Ie8 32-bit

Windows 7 64bit doesn't distinguish between ie8 64 bit and ie8 32 bit when attempting to set a default browser using the control panel default programs 'associate' utility. My new windows 7 64 bit pc (luv that i7 920 intel cpu) came installed with both ie8-64 bit and ie8-32 bit (nothing more need be said regarding the absurdity of having to deal with this in the first place - i should have gone with the imac).

Anyway, ie64 bit lacks the flash player cuz adobe hasn't released a 64 bit version yet, per their website. So i can't use ie64 with xm online music stream (et al). Ie32, on the other hand, supports flash player, but won't successfully link to various embedded hypertext links, such as those embedded in an email. My initial solution was to use firefox, which served me well until an application from a local vendor will only work with internet explorer. Sigh.

I've used windows since version 2 back in the 1980s, have become stoic, and can emotionally cope with having to use 3 browsers to get the job done.

However, just for fun, my current burning question is, with two different versions of ie8 (64 bit and 32 bit) installed into windows 7, why doesn't the control panel default applications utility seem to aware of the fact that there are indeed two different versions installed? It lists firefox and internet explorer, but does not differentiate between the two flavors of ie. My goal was to set ie8 64 bit as the default browser temporarily to accommodate the vendor's application.

Fyi, by setting the default, i refer to: control panel | default programs | associate a file type or protocol with a program. Then scroll down to 'http' and click on the change program button. So in my case, firefox and only one instance of internet explorer, with no bit distinction, display as selection options.

X6 Keyboard Issue

Recently purchased above keyboard and have noticed after a coule of weeks the #7 key at top of keyboard appears to stick down. Ie hold #7 key down and will repeat at a much faster rate than the other keys, almost 3-4 times as fast. If the plastic key is removed and i use a pen to hit the sensor it works correctly. Do you think it needs to be returned under warranty or is there something which i can do? I thought the key itself might be holding the plastic cover on teh sensor down longer than normal, but its position is consistent with all the other keys. I have checked for dirt etc under keys but all clear.

Changing Keyboard

I have a laptop with a japanese keyboard. I am running an english os. I have gone to control panel. I clicked the change keyboard. I added languages so that i have both english and japanese and both languages keyboard options installed. The ime too. When i press alt and shift, the language bar does change between en and jp. The language bar also indicates that the keyboard has changed too.

However, even when the language bar says the language is japanese and that the keyboard is japanese, the pc still types as if configured for an english keyboard. I have also tried typing with the default input language set as japanese, and then tried it set as english.

Does anyone know why, despite following all the steps; despite having text services and input languages indicating that under installed services that english and japanese input devices have been added (and yes, i pressed apply); and despite having a language bar that does switch between english and japanese when alt+shift is pressed, that nothing changes and the key board still behaves as an english (us) keyboard?

Brazilian Keyboard

I just received a new computer with windows 7, and i'm trying to get a brazilian keyboard to work with it. My old computer was xp, and this same keyboard worked fine. I set up a different language for when i was using this keyboard, and it would let me use all the keys (i don't remember what was the keyboard layout that i used).

When i try and set it up with windows 7, however, there is no keyboard layout that matches my layout. The abnt and abnt2 options look the same, and both are missing two keys. My keyboard has the to the left of the z, and the / to the right of the ;. Is there some error with how windows 7 has set up one of these keyboards?

Login Using Only Keyboard

When i leave my work desk i have to lock my station, i do it very often so i would like to login faster - by using only my keyboard. Is there a combination of keys that would get me straight to the password box? When locked the monitor says "swipe your finger" (i can't use my fingerprint reader at that point because the lid is closed, i'm using external keyboard and monitor) when i try ctrl+alt+del nothing happens, esc key works by displaying user icon and the button "switch user".

I must point the user icon with the mouse to reveal the password box, there is apparently no way to change focus to that icon from the keyboard (tab doesn't work). It's annoying that i must grab my mouse every time i want to unlock the workstation.

Using Keyboard In Win 7

I'm not visually impaired, but i prefer to use the keyboard more than the mouse. I am finding win7 to be very cumbersome to use with the keyboard. I know there are tons of new logo key combinations-i think i've tried them all-but it is still very difficult for me to move around explorer using the keyboard. Seems like everything takes 2 or 3 more keystrokes than it did when i used xp. How are other "keyboarders" or even visually impaired users coping with win 7? Any ideas on working more efficiently with the keyboard?

No Keyboard Input Available

There is a user who started having problems this morning. The machine is 1 week old, loaded with windows 7 ultimate 64bit. The keyboard is dead, the only thing i'm able to do is turn the f-lock on and off nothing else responds. I tried plugging in another usb keyboard and then a ps-2 keyboard and neither work. When i was finally able to use the on screen keyboard to login i found in device manager there was an error 19 for the keyboard saying that driver information in the registry had become corrupt so the device couldn't be started.

So i look that up and find that deleting the upperfilter in the registry was suggested. So i deleted the upperfilter and rebooted and still no keyboard. I can use the keyboard in the bios and to select safe mode or normal mode but once windows starts the keyboard is dead. I've also noticed that everytime i reboot along with the usb keyboard and mouse a ps-2 keyboard and mouse is installed in the device manager with exclamation marks. I've restored to earlier times when everything worked and still no keyboard. Any ideas?

Keyboard Drivers Becoming Disabled

Keyboard *drivers* becoming 'disabled' (1st usb, then ps/2); show "!" In hw-lst, but win-diags find nothing wrong. This is a most peculiar problem. First my usb kbd driver went dead. At first i didn't notice it, as i was using the mouse, primarily, for input, but remember a hw-rejected sound from windows earlier upon logging in.

My keyboard wouldn't do anything. No led toggles - etc, but on another machine, fine, and on same machine 'fine' - until windows comes up, then kbd goes dead (once bios drivers are no longer driving kbd, likely).

Under keyboards, the hid keyboard driver showed a small yellow triangle with an ! In it.

After trying  reinstalling the driver (its the stock ms driver), upgrading it (no upgrades), repair ("nothing can be found wrong, maybe the driver is corrupt", but file kbd_hid.sys, checks out w/valid ms sig), i decide to hook up a ps/2 keyboard. It worked for all of maybe 20 seconds. Then a low hw reject message as win7 disconnected my ps/2 kbd! Unbelievable! Now both my hid kbd driver and the 'standard ps/2 keyboard driver show up with the yellow triangle with a "!" In it. But i can't figure out what's doing wrong with the.

I also tried system restore to day before any of this happened - no go. I figured going back further would be a waste, since the start of the problem was rather clearly defined.

I *thought* i had caused it when i tried to enter a sw policy restriction to forbid 'wisptis.exe' from executing - (the onscreen digital ink input dealy) - for two reasons - it kept getting in the way and i couldn't figure out how to get it to turn off (i wanted to use my tablet's native drivers, but wisptis was interfering and making the tablet good for nothing but digital ink (handwriting recognition as keyboard input)).

The final straw came when i was looking through my logs and found the security log (~20mb log) mostly full with security failures from wisptis.exe (i turned on monitoring of security failures, only, thinking that failures, should be rare in properly acting sw, and this software was clearly violating win7's own security policy!).

It was after i added the policy that the usb keyboard went dead.

But that policy went away from the first 'backstep' (system restore point) - but the keyboard didn't come back. After that it was downhill for the ps/2 driver. So, to be clear, the policy is not in the security panel - it was back to pre-init state (no sw policies in effect) after the 1st system restore. So that 'had' to be coincidence. But it felt oddly coincidental, that the only 'keyboad' type inputs left to use on the system were the on-screen keyboard and the digital-ink keyboard. (Mouse paths/drivers are unaffected).
