Easy Transfer Wizard Error - There Isn't Enough Disk Space Available

Easy transfer wizard error: there isn't enough disk space available to transfer your files and settings. The transfer file size is 40gb and i have a c: drive that says it has 280gb free and a d: drive that has 298gb free. I did a successful save of the easy transfer files to an external hard drive. Previously this computer was running vista for over 1 year with no problems.

After doing a custom install (i wanted to start with a clean install) of win7, everything is working. I installed windows/office updates and all of my other program files. When i run transfer wizard, it locates the "old computer" transfer file and reads it ok, showing the users and a transfer file size of 40. 1gb. When i click transfer button, i get the error: there isn't enough disk space available to transfer your files and settings. However, i have over 280gb free on my c: drive.

What disk is it looking at and what do i need to do to get around this. If i cannot get my files/settings back, i am going to be a very unhappy customer.

Easy Transfer Error Enough Disk Space Available

I recently upgraded my xp to windows 7 and during the process created a windows easy transfer file. The file created without any trouble and i saved it to an external hard drive. When i went to reload it back, after installing windows 7, i got an error - isn't enough disk space available to transfer files and settings. My hard drive is currently in two partitions - c: (20gb) which contains my operating system and d: (200+gb). The c: drive is full and when i go to advanced in the windows easy transfer. It looks like it is trying to transfer data there. I am not sure what to do next.

Enough Free Disk Space Issue Using Easy Transfer

Why does easy transfer say i don't have enough disk space when i'm trying to transfer 141gb to a hard drive with 585gb of available space? I just purchased an hp pavilion 6347c with windows 7 home premium. I'm trying to transfer data from my old computer with windows xp to the new machine.

Easy transfer works to the point where the actual transfer should be made, at which point i get an error message saying there is not enough disk space. I've called hp tech support, and they told me i'd have to pay for support as this is a "third party" issue.

Easy Transfer & Disc Space

I just upgraded to windows 7 professional from vista home edition and was required to do a custom installation. Before installing, i moved the contents of the c drive to an external drive using windows easy transfer, as microsoft recommended. Now when i try to use easy transfer to move files back to the c drive, i get an error message that reads: " "there isn't enough  disc space available to transfer your files and settings. "

Easy transfer has 16. 3 gb to move, and the c drive reports having  203 gb available. The f drive has 231 gb available, and the d: recovery has 3. 05 gb available (out of 14. 6 gb). What's the problem with easy  transfer's moving these files back to c? More importantly, what's the solution?

5. Clicked on an external hard drive
6. Click yes to that this is my new computer

Easy Transfer Error Message

I am trying to transfer files from my old computer (os windows 7 32 bit) to my new computer (os windows 7 32 bit) using easy file transfer. I have set up homegroup on both computers. I am transferring to my asus computer(eetop all in one) has two hard drives on it. One is labeled win7 (c:) and the other data (d:) the old computer also runs windows 7 32 bit.

When i attempt to change the map drives on the asus to the data (d:) drive and press the "save" button, i get the error message: "the current drive mapping can't be saved", and below that: "make sure all drives are mapped and that each drive has enough space for the transfer. " I do not understand how to make sure the drives are mapped. I have tried going to "computer" and then to "map network drive", but there is no "d" drive listed on the dropdown. What must i do to make my file transfer successful?

Live Mail Disk Space Recovery Error

I use wlm to read alt. Binaries newsgroups. I frequently delete message bodies. I'm convinced there is a bug in wlm unless somebody can help me. When i go to close wlm, it asks if i want to recover unused disk space. I assume this is like the old oe "compact" feature. I say "yes" and wlm immediately tells me it is in use by another program. This isn't true as it is the only program running. Since alt. Binaries are huge, i can't decrease the size of the database, and when it approaches 2 gb, wlm becomes totally unresponsive and i have to resubscribe and re-download every again, terrible wast ot time. Any experts out there who can help?

Easy Windows Transfer

I upgraded from windows xp to windows professional. I used the easy windows transfer program and let it do its thing. I backed up the files to my western digital book. It transfered 329 gigs. When i went to transfer the file back to the computer it says there isn't enough space. Which is true it's only a 500 gig hard drive. Windows 7 said it would do a clean install but all the files are still in the computer i just can't use them. Do i have to format my hard drive then install windows 7 then bring my files back over? How do i get my files back over to the computer?

Windows Easy Transfer

I'm having problems with windows easy transfer (wet). I bought a new laptop with windows 7. The old laptop has vista home premium, which i updated to latest version. Both laptops are connected wirelessly to my netgear router. I can see each computer under the other's network. I want to transfer info from my old pc to the new one, but i cannot. I open wet on the old pc and get to the point where it tells me to get a key from the new pc. I cannot get a key from the new pc, because it prompts me to enter a key from the old pc. These two instructions are contradictory.

I got a key from the old pc and entered in the space on the new pc. The new pc is trying to connect to the old pc but cannot. After a while i get the error message:" wet cannot connect to your other computer. To complete the connection, you might need to install the latest version of wet on your other computer. " I  have done that and i still cannot connect. What do i need to do to connect my new pc to the old pc?

Easy Transfer Report

I recently bought a new pc with windows 7 already installed. I performed a windows easy transfer of most of my stuff from my old xp to the windows 7 pc with no fuss, except when it was installing/saving the transferred data, it asked me for my old pc's password. I didn't know it, didn't even know it had one and neither did my husband. We tried all the obvious ones, then just gave up and closed that window down. And the rest of the installation/saving continued. Now when i go to view the report of what was transferred, i am unable to open it as it keeps saying that an error has occurred, and do i want to continue running scripts.

Then a pop up box appears with the following message. "Windows easy transfer post migration application has stopped working". It then searches for a solution, then says "it has a problem that caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify if a solution becomes available". Then the report closes down and i cant view it at all. What can i do?

Easy Transfer Drive Mapping

I am having issues with an xp-win 7 upgrade. When i use wet utility it tries to install all my files onto my small c:drive. The original . Mig file comes from a computer with c: j: k: drives. The new comp just has c: and d:. Why isn't it giving me an option to map the drives when i upgrade? It tries to install on c drive then gives up when it runs out of space.

When i look at the map drive tab in wet it says 'no drives are available for mapping. ' i have tried using the same file on a vista laptop and easy transfer works perfectly - it gives me an option of where to install my files. I have tried renaming the d: drive on my win 7 machine to m and j to see if this would force east transfer to give me an option of mapping drives - but it hasn't worked.

Extract From Easy Transfer File

I upgraded from vista home premium  to windows 7 professional and used the easy transfer to move my files and settings which were saved on an external hard drive.

I made the conversion and everything worked fine. Unfortunately, after the conversion one of my files got corrupted(due to my own mistake) and is no longer available. The file "saveddata. Mig" is still available on my external drive which prompts the following questions: is it possible to extract a specific file from "saveddata. Mig"? If so, how would i go about it?

Easy File Transfer Problems

I was converting from windows xp to windows 7. I ran 'easy file tranfer' and copied my 'setting' to a usb stick. They were saved as a folder with the name 'usmt2img. Dat'. This apparently contained no files, but has a size of 353, 724. I ran 'easy file transfer' and copied settings and files to and external hard drive. These were save as a folder usmt2. Unc containing the files  'img00001. Dat', ' img00002. Dat', 'img00003'. Dat and another file of 1kb called 'status'.

I installed windows 7 and ran 'easy file tranfer' to restore my settings. It ran until i indicated where the files were located on the usb stick, and the files did not appear in the open folder.
I then tried with the external hard drive, and again in ran  until i indicated where the files were located on the drive, and the files did not appear in the open folder. This time when i typed the file names into the space provided, easy file tranfer' started to run, then said  'cannot open files'.

How can i recover my settings? (I have the 'my documents' files backed up at another location, but i need my old e-mails and address book particularly. )

Easy Transfer User Account

I've ask this elsewhere but it is getting pushed back without a reply. I have easy transfer with a cable to transfer files & setting from our xp machine. I've been using the w7 pc off-line for a course. I set up 4 account like we have on the xp machine. Will the easy transfer screw up with accounts with the same names already in place? I set them up because i was having trouble with a "demo" account the store set up but didn't completely remove (which i've done).

Should i remove the 4 accounts completely? What should i keep so i can log on afterwards. I have some excel files on the new w& pc that i can park elsewhere while i'm doing the easy transfer.

User Accounts Easy Transfer

I will be using easy transfer to migrate all the possible files from our xp machine to a new windows 7 machine. I have been using the w7 computer offline for a course i am taking and set it up with the same 4 user accounts we have on our xp machine with the same names. If i choose to transfer "everything" including user accounts will the prior existence of those accounts cause problems with easy transfer? Will it try to create alternate user accounts?

I have a few empty test folders under three of the accounts since i had some problems setting up the accounts initially. My account contains a folder with a number of files for my course but i plan on copying them to a flash drive "just in case" they get clobbered by the easy transfer process. While i'm at it, should i install my program files after the transfer or before or doesn't it matter?

Easy Transfer With Xp Administrator Account

I have an old computer running xp. I have  new computer running windows 7. I want to use easy transfer to move files from the old computer to the new. I have the tornado usb cable for easy transfer. I have one account on each computer. On my old machine this is called "administrator" and it has administrator privileges. In order to move files smoothly with easy transfer i understand that the accounts it moves the files from/to must be named the same. On my new computer, it won't let me create or rename an account to administrator because it says one already exists.

However this "already exists" account doesn't show up in the list of users on the new machine. I'm afraid that if i use easy transfer as is, it will move my old files into the hidden "administrator" account on my new machine and i won't be able to use them. I don't care what the name of the account is on my new machine, i just want to get it up to the level of functionality of my old machine as painlessly as possible. I have considered renaming my old machine account away from "administrator" but am concerned that this might cause other problems.

Windows Easy Transfer Can Not Open File

I used vista 32bit windows easy tranfer version 6. 1 to save files to a usb disk drive. I set an encryption password. Transfer completed successfully. 17 mig files created (. Mig, . Mig01-. Mig16).

I tried to recover the files on a new system (64bit windows 7 home premium and again with 32bit windows 7 professional). Wet accepted password, but both attempts fail with the same message "windows easy transfer can not open file".

Old system: 32bit vista home premium service pack 2
New system: either 64bit windows 7 home premium or 32bit windows 7 professional (which ever works with wet).

Windows Easy Transfer Can't Continue

Windows easy transfer can't continue while other programs are open & access denied to my documents after transfer. I upgraded from xp to win 7 using the windows easy transfer (wet) software and an external hard drive. The upgrade went fine.

Transferring files onto the upgraded pc using wet led to 2 error messages: there were 2 program settings files that were identified as problems with the message "windows easy transfer can't continue while other programs are open" and apx. 300 documents identified as problems with the error message "some of your files you are transferring might be in use". There were no other programs running at the time. The only workable option to proceed with the transfer was to choose "skip these files and continue transfer" - which seemed to go fine.

After the partial transfer i found that i could not open "my documents" or the recycle bin receiveing the message "access denied". I tried changing the share/permission settings under the properties tab and managed to open the recycle bin to "all users". This repair did not work with "my documents". There remains a small lock icon next to both of the above even though i can now access the recycle bin.

Not Enough Disk Space

I installed windows 7 on my dell pc. The os is in d: drive. When i run windows easy transfer to retrieve my old files i get an error saying there is not enough disk space. Yet i have 198 gb free, it's supposed to take only about 116 gb. Now according to the easy transfer program it also wants to transfer some information to drive c:, though i didn't run the transfer program on drive c:, only on drive d: dell uses the c: drive with a only a small partition for some diagnostic programs. According to the transfer program, it wants to transfer about 83 megabytes of data, and theres only about 11 mb of free space left.

Am i going to have to get a partition program to make it a larger partition, or what? Also, when i run the transfer program and go to advanced options where it shows the drive mappings, it shows the drive mappings as c: -> c:, d: -> d:, and maxtor (where i had the easy transfer program store my files -> maxtor. I assume i need to change the maxtor to maxtor -> d:, is this correct?
