Hard Disk Space Unusable

I am using windows 7 32 bit edition on dell inspiron 1545. The specifications are
Intel core 2 duo
2 gb ram
250 gb hard disk

There is only one drive ( c drive ) in the partition. Only 232. 77 gb is allocated out of 250 gb. The problem is that 118 mb is unallocated. It was the oem's partition but i formatted it because i didnot knew what it was for. The left over 118 mb cannot be merged with 232. 77 gb. It only shows the option of creating new drive. On the other hand c drive does not show the option of extend volume. How can i use the 118 mb ?áDo i have to format ?

Not Enough Disk Space

I installed windows 7 on my dell pc. The os is in d: drive. When i run windows easy transfer to retrieve my old files i get an error saying there is not enough disk space. Yet i have 198 gb free, it's supposed to take only about 116 gb. Now according to the easy transfer program it also wants to transferásome information to drive c:, though i didn't run the transfer program on drive c:, only on drive d:ádell uses the c: drive with a only a small partition for some diagnostic programs. According to the transfer program, it wants to transfer about 83 megabytes of data, and theres only about 11 mb of free space left.

Am i going to have to get a partition program to make it a larger partition, or what?áAlso, when i run the transfer program and go to advanced options where it shows the drive mappings, it shows the drive mappings as c: -> c:, d: -> d:, andámaxtor (where iáhad theáeasy transfer program store my files -> maxtor. I assume i need to change the maxtor to maxtor -> d:, is this correct?

Lost Disk Space

So i was trying to help my friend delete his old windows 7 beta partition on his new copy of win 7. So far, using diskámanagement, he has formatted it, defragged it with the built in windows defragger, and deleted the partition. At that point it still wouldn't let him extend his main drive toáincludeáthis newly free space. So he right clicked the free space and deleted it. Instead of changing it too unallocated space like it expected it to, it just vanished completely! And now thanks to me, my friend is missing some 80gb.

Then, for some reason itáseparatedá112gb of "free space" from his new install. So i extended the driveáand put the 112 gb back into his new install. And now i'm stuck.

How To Use Unallocated Disk Space?

I shrunk my c: by 40 gb and got this unallocated space. Now when i try to create a new volume out of this space, i get the message " the operation you selected will convert the selected basic disk(s) to dynamic disk(s). If you convert the disk(s) to dynamic, you will not be able to start installed operating systems from any volume on the disk(s) (except the current boot volume). Are you sure you want to continue?" On searching i found that windows 7 home premium supports a max of 4 volumes. This is my disk management image:áhttp://goo. Gl/r4ndáwhat do i do to make it usable?

Low Disk Space On Recovery (d) Drive

I just switched my dell studio 15 from windows vista to windows 7. Once i got everything set up, i started receiving an error message that reads "low disk space on recovery drive". I have already gone and changed the program files to default to the c drive by going in through the registry (?) But am not sure what else i can do. I have tried uninstalling programs, but it tells me that i don't have enough disk space to do so. I only have the following folders in my recovery partition: dell, perflogs, program files, sources, tools, users, windows. Any suggestions of what i should do?

Easy Transfer Error Enough Disk Space Available

I recently upgraded my xp to windows 7 and during the process created a windows easy transfer file. The file created without any trouble and i saved it to an external hard drive. When i went to reload it back, after installing windows 7, i got an error - isn't enough disk space available to transfer files and settings. My hard drive is currently in two partitions - c: (20gb)áwhich contains my operating system and d: (200+gb). The c: drive is full and when i go to advanced in the windows easy transfer. It looks like it is trying to transfer data there. I am not sure what to do next.

Enough Free Disk Space Issue Using Easy Transfer

Why does easy transfer say i don't have enough disk space when i'm trying to transfer 141gb to a hard drive with 585gb of available space? I just purchased an hp pavilion 6347c with windows 7 home premium. I'm trying to transfer data from my old computer with windows xp to the new machine.

Easy transfer works to the point where the actual transfer should be made, at which point i get an error message saying there is not enough disk space. I've called hp tech support, and they told me i'd have to pay for support as this is a "third party" issue.

Full D Recovery Drive Disk Space Warning

I'm having a somewhat similar problem as a previous poster but. Have a newer computer and i upgraded from vista home premium to w7 home premium . My backup d drive is full . I guess the backup has not removed former backups . Now processing is slower and i worried about a total freeze. I used the disk manager and tried to add space onto my d from c but only ended up with an unallocated partition of 20g's .couldn't figure out how to add to d.

In the previous solution " press a special key combination when the computer starts, you can use the recovery partition to restore the computer to the way it was when it was new. " Would that remove windows 7(don't want to do that" or. Do i have to remove the partitions letters for the d? Would that just make it one big c drive? . Would that effect computers performance? How can i get that unallocated partition back to c . Or to d? Sorry for being so wordy but i could sure use some help.

Live Mail Disk Space Recovery Error

I use wlm to read alt. Binaries newsgroups. I frequently delete message bodies. I'm convinced there is a bug in wlm unless somebody can help me. When i go to close wlm, it asks if i want to recover unused disk space. I assume this is like the old oe "compact" feature. I say "yes" and wlm immediately tells me it is in use by another program. This isn't true as it is the only program running. Since alt. Binaries are huge, i can't decrease the size of the database, and when it approaches 2 gb, wlm becomes totally unresponsive and i have to resubscribe and re-download every again, terrible wast ot time. Any experts out there who can help?

When Windows Old Updates Should Be Removed To Keep Disk Space Clean ?

How to deal with so many windows updates? I don't keep track in detail, but it is very noticeable that microsoft updates come almost every day, and they downgrade the computer performance, not to mention the space they take. Last night the machine rebooted because of some 37 important updates. This morning it says it still has 2 important and 13 optional. I know i can change my download and apply settings to diminish the impact to performance, but as far as space, is there a recommendation for when old updates should be removed to keep disk space clean?

Easy Transfer Wizard Error - There Isn't Enough Disk Space Available

Easy transfer wizard error: there isn't enough disk space available to transfer your files and settings. The transfer file size is 40gb and i have a c: drive that says it has 280gb free and a d: drive that has 298gb free. I did a successful save of the easy transfer files to an external hard drive. Previously this computer was running vista for over 1 year with no problems.

After doing a custom install (i wanted to start with a clean install) of win7, everything is working. I installed windows/office updates andáall of my other programáfiles. When i run transfer wizard, it locates the "old computer" transfer file and reads it ok, showing the users and a transfer file size of 40. 1gb. When i click transfer button, i get the error: there isn't enough disk space available to transfer your files and settings. However, i have over 280gb free on my c: drive.

What disk is it looking at and what do i need to do to get around this. If i cannot get my files/settings back, i am going to be a very unhappy customer.

Hard Drive Space Usage Under Win7

I just upgraded to win7 (64 bit). My c drive (intel ssd) has ~75 gb space. When i click on "computer, " it says that the total free space is 25gb (i.e 75gb is used up). But the space occupied by all files/folders adds up to only ~24 gb (~21 gb of this is occupied by "windows" and "windows. Old" folders, ~2. 4 gb by "program files" and "program files (x86)", and very little by other folders/files).

How can i find out what is taking up the rest of the space? I have emptied the recycle bin and have done disk cleanup. In addition, in the advanced settings list, i made sure that "show hidden files, folders and drives" is selected. I also unchecked "hide protected operating system files. ".

External Hard Drive Space Discrepancy

I have a 500gb western digital external hard drive which shows i actually have a total of 465gb (i understand this). Currently it says i haveá277 gb free but the files i have saved on there amount to no more then 100gb, so shouldn't itáhave 365gb available. Also about once a month it says there is not enough room to complete a back up even though on my c drive it shows i only have about 135gb of stuff, so i haveáto delete my previous back ups and start again, why is thisáá.

Upgrade To Win7 Wrt Hard Drive Space

I've been thinking about upgrading to windows 7 for a little while. I've been reading the system requirements (i meet all of them) but i noticed that i have to have 16gb of free space on my hard drive. My laptop is a basic (ish) spec so hdd space is at a premium. Will it always use this 16gb when everything is finished or is it just temporary.

What happens to vista? I've seen on some other forums that it keeps it installed. This is doesn't make sense - why would i want this and how could i stop it from doing this. Please bear in mind i would prefer to use an upgrade disc rather than a full copy to save money.

Win 7 Reports Wrong Free Space On Hard Drive

I have 4 partitions set up on my hard drive. 1st partition has my windows 7 installation and some other microsoft products such as the office suit and visual studio and such.

2nd partition is empty and i'm not using it right now
3rd partition i have encrypted with the bitlock and use it for important files
4th partition i use for everything else. This partition is 219 gb in size. I have movie files, music, pictures, software iso's and the program files folder with lots of software.

Total all that data is exactly 48. T gb. I got this number in two different ways both equaling 48. 7 gb: first i manually calculated the sizes of all the folders and then to verify i used a utility called jdiskreport which confirmed my calculation.

The problem is that windows tells me that my 4th partition is completely full and only 1. 3 gb is left when clearly that doesn't make sense. I am missing 160gb which is a large number. I looked at all possibilities: hidden files, system restore files but there's nothing there. I would like to know if anyone out there has any idea as to what's going on and how i can fix it. Absolutely any ideas are welcome.

Hard Disk Cleanup

I did something dumb. I moved a program (not installed a program) to program files (not program files(x86)) of my local c hard disk. I realize it shouldn't be there and want it off. When i look at the instructions for disk clean up i get confused about what to choose and find that for suchááa potentially ruinous application the instructions are too simplistic. I don't want to ruin anything and want to be sure i'm doing the right thing first. I have windows 7 pro.

The program does not show up at the control paneláuninstall although the uninstall should be with the program. I can't find it anywhere. The program seems to work fine but i'd like to install it properly. Everything is working fine so i'd rather leave things as is if i would run a risk of any malfunctions. So if anyone out there can convince me on how to get rid of the offending program i'd bevery thankful.

Upgrade With New Hard Disk Drive

Vista 32 bit home premium (oem) to windows 7 64 bit home premium (upgrade) with new hard disk drive my current setup: i have a 2 year old hp laptop which came with windows vista home premium 32-bit pre-installed (oem). I have a partition on the hard disk that will allow me to 'restore' my system. I also received the 'restore' dvd from hp. I do not have the os re-installation dvd as this was oem (and hp doesn't give these out with their laptops) - i only have the 'restore' dvd / partition on the hdd.

I bought the windows 7 64-bit home premium (upgrade version) last summer when win 7 was released but have not had the time / courage to use it yet! (Laziness too!). Current problem: my laptop hdd is only 160gb and its already too full. This is what i want to do: i would like to replace my existing 160gb hdd with a new 500gb hdd and move from my existing vista 32-bit os to the new windows 7 64-bit os. If at all possible, i would like to do a clean install of windows 7 on
The new hdd instead of upgrading from vista to windows 7. Can this be done?

Change Hard Disk After Windows 7 Was Activated

Iáhave one hp desktop with vista 64, i upgraded it to win7 by the upgrade disk mailed to me. My hard disk is 500g seagate. Thanks for the 7200. 11 seagate bad reputation, i might need to change it, in case burned. My question is :

Can i re-do the upgrade win7 on a different hdd in the future and activate it, or i have to stick with the same hdd after the win7 activated. What about motherboard, can i change motherboard after win7 activated? Or i have to change my mb before the win7 activation. Or put it this way, after the win7 activated, can i still change all the hw parts, or some restriction applied?

Unable To Use 2 Hard Disk Through Usb Connection Simultaneously

Unable to use 2 external hard disk through usb connection simultaneously connected - with each disk of different capacity. When using 2 external hard drive one of 1 tb another of 2 tb on a single computer together - one of them gets recognized properly the other one does not get recognized. Inserting the same drives one at a time make them work fine. The drives are seagate freeagent drives.

The computer nearly hangs when the drive that is not properly recognized is accessed. If it does not hangs it may show situations such as drive needs to be formatted - or does not have any data etc. I am facing these on problems in two computers - one core 2 duo desktop pc using intel motherboard and running windows 2008 server (with all important updates applied) and another core 2 duo dell inspiron laptop intel chipset running windows vista home basic (with all important updates applied). I am sure it is driver issue - but the drivers are provided by microsoft not seagate here.

Error Message - Disk Is Corrupt Or Unreadable - External Hard Drive

Seagate freeagent go 500g external hard drive usable in xp professional works fine, but when i try to use it on windows 7. I get the error message "disk is corrupt or unreadable ". Installed windows professional x64 11/16/09. Everything works fine, all updated drivers for motherboard chipset. Tried everything, i can plug it into windows 7 pro x64 and get an immediate prompt to reformat, followed by disc is corrupt or unreadable. I can disconnect immediately and plug into a xp home computer and it works just fine.

Tried doing the security allow all users so its not locked from this new computer, didn't work, installing drivers hasn't worked, basically at a loss here, not enough room to back it up on the working computer, format on the new, and reinstall it on newly formatted hdd.

Win 7 Sees External Usb Hard Disk But Can't Access It

I'm using windows 7 home premium and had a power supply go out causing my computer to shut down in the middle of moving some large files to a fantom 1 tb external usb hard disk. I've got the system back up and running (after repairing the boot disk that had a corrupt boot sector) but when i plug in the external disk, windows won't allow me to access files. It does recognize the drive when i plug it in but if i go to properties and try to look at drive details or do disk maintenance, it gives an error message saying it can't access the drive. Also, the external drive is not partitioned.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the fat or partition table that got messed up when the power went out. I ran the easeus data recovery wizard-it was able to access the drive just fine and tells me the data is still there.

Any thoughts?

Cannot Install Win 7 On Sata Hard Disk - Intel 945 Chipset Motherboard

I troubleshoot more than one pc with dual boot system which run windows xp and windows 7. Which system are most latest- intel g31 chipset, 2gb ram, 500 gb sata hdd, 2. 5 ghz intel dual core etc.
But, now i face some installation problem with my pc. Yesterday i run my pc smoothly with windows 7 with 2 ghz pentium 4, 1 gb ram, 80 gb pata hdd, 945 chipset motherboard etc. I need more storage area, so i purchase a hitachi 500 gb sata hdd. My motherboard has one pata connector and two sata connector. I use the pata connector to attach my hdd and dvd. They worked fine.

But, when i attach my new 500 gb sata hdd to sata connector and remove the 80 gb pata hdd. Only dvd attach with pata connector. I insert my windows 7 installtion dvd to the drive and restart my pc and go to bios. This is amibios. I find bios recognize the sata hdd as primary master and dvd to secondary slave drive. I also find sata drive mark in ide form. (Their also raid and ahci also available. ) I save the configuration and reboot. After reboot, when pc want to start from dvd, i press the space key from keyboard and the setup start to copy installation file in 2 stage and i find it complete the copy process. And pc going to start up, but, but a green color bar running through a tube for about 2 hours. Nothing happen. Read more at the forum.
