Ie8 Extremely Slow To Initially Open

I have recently installed ie8. When i try to open it, it takes about a minute and a half to open. The homepage is blank. Once pen, it works normally until i try to open a new tab which again takes about a minute and a half. I have researched and tried various things including:

Re-registering two specific dll files
Disabling all add-ons
Resetting defaults

Resetting the security settings that is talked about in the microsoft fixing ie8 document
I uninstalled ie8 and tried 7 and had the same results. Ie 6 works fine. I have ran a virus scan and malware scan and the machine is clean.

Extremely Slow Download

I have been trying to download and install the windows 7 upgrade since dec. 30 afternoon. It is installing at speed of only 1. 1k/sec  this is not normal for me. I think over the weekend something corrupted some of my programs, i had to re-install some of them.could whatever it was cause the download speed to do this?  Should i wait for the dvd to arrive which i ordered along with the upgrade to arrive and then just install from it?  And should i do a clean install to find and correct this corruption? I scanned, cleaned, error-checked, etc. And nothing shows up. I have hughesnet satellite connection of 100 mbps. Any and all advice much appreciated!

Computer Run Extremely Slow

Yesterday my computer decided it wanted to run extremely slow. I was using it for work (mainly word documents) and it was working fine. Two hours later, i turned my laptop back on and it is taking a long time to load anything! Start up takes a long time, opening anything can take 5 minutes + at the moment. But once things are open, they seem to run fine. Defrag only took an hour.

Oh, and when loading programs, no cpu or ram (a part form the normal 800mb) is used at all, cpu hovers around 0%-2%, with the occasional spike. To help fix it i have tried:- defrag and disk clean up- virus scan -> zero results- i bought a registry cleaner -> 1700 results, but all clean now! (Ran twice)- currently running a spyware check, but that appears to be getting no hits- i have tried a clean boot.

The computer appeared to run faster (can now play wmp no prob) but is still taking 5 minutes to load anything. - I was going to perform a system restore, but it turned out it was never turned on >:(is there any suggestions, please, because i am on the verge of formatting my laptop. But i really really don't want to as i have a lot of university work that needs to be done on there, and is still on there.

Computer:  hp laptop amd turion x2 2. 1ghz (rm-72)4gb ram 320gb hdd (173gb free)os: 32-bit windows 7.

Extremely Slow Music Import

I've got a fresh install of windows 7 on a new system and am adding music to my wmp library. The music folder is around 60 gb and is stored on my whs. The music import has been running now for almost 24 hours and is finally almost done. This seems like a ridiculous amount of time required to import music.

On my older vista system (much lower specs), the same import took way less time ( i think under a couple hours) and i was on a 100mbps ethernet. With the new system, i'm on a gigabit ethernet.

Why would it be taking so long under windows 7 compared to vista?

Note: i have unchecked the check box to retrieve additional information from the internet, and it didn't make a difference

System specs:
Amd ii x2 250 dual @ 3. 0 ghz
4 gb ram
Windows 7 32 bit

Installed On Ssd But Extremely Slow

For some reason windows 7 doesn't want to install on my 1tb wd hard drive. It goes through the 40 hour install process and on the final restart it tells me that something went wrong with the installation and windows won't boot. When i install int on my 40gig ssd it installs in a snap less than 20 min no problems. With the ssd i used default settings on my bios, i didn't deactivate the floppy drive or anything. When i try on my wd hard drive it doesn't matter what i do.

I tried turning off the floppy, i tried unplugging every other drive, i tried every sata port my mobo has to offer, and no matter what i do it wont complete the installation, and it takes a million hours to fail. I've also reformatted the drive several times throughout the install process, and it still won't let me install.

Browsing Network Extremely Slow

I have gone from a completely windows vista network to upgrading all systems to windows 7. The problem is that when i used to "browse" the network to see all of the computers/devices it was quite quick and access to the shares was almost immediate. Under windows 7 this takes quite some time to find all of the systems on the network, and then once it does, it can take still longer to open the shares to access the files. This extended wait has been fine, but now some programs which are accessing remote data on other computers are timing out if the share is not loaded before launching the application.

Why is windows 7 local network browsing so slow. The infrastructure (dlink dir-655 router/netgear gs748t gigabit smart switch) has not changed. Is there a settings change you can recommend.

System Image & Backup Extremely Slow

I started running windows 7 backup, including a system image 2 days ago. It's only up to 17% completed now. I am running windows 7 professional, 64bit. The internal hd is 2 tb, 8 gb ram & amd phenom ii x3 processor, 2. 5 ghz. I am backing up to a firewire seagate free agent external hd. The mainboard is msi 770-c45. I have set the power option to never turn off the monitor or hd. I have tried other imaging software such as shadowprotect and rebit.

When i run those 2 together i get bsod's. Since the system image and backup features are in windows 7, i thought this might be a better way to make a disk image and backup since they are integrated into the os. But at this rate, the system image and backup may never complete. Any suggestions?
Oh one more piece of information. The c drive that i am attempting to backup has 686gb of used space.

Note: when i had windows xp with about the same amount of used disk space and used shadowprotect or acronis true image, the disk image would complete overnight. This is a new computer so there's no issue of upgrading from xp.

Ie8 Slow To Close

I run vista home premium (32) on an hp pavillion dv6809wm laptop, 3 gig ram. I use ms internet explorer 8 and it runs as well for me as for anyone, most of the time- speed ok, page load ok- not too many issues. But it routinely does something that drives me fugbuck. When i go to close it, it disappears from the screen and from the taskbar, but the shortcut on my dt stays highlighted for anywhere from 30 seconds to >2 minutes, during which time i cannot do anything else.

I can't even open task manager to see if something is eating resources. I regularly clean out temp files and other garbage; i am savvy enough to do all the basic things that are usually suggested first. I also do not enable any add-ons except adobe pdf, do not use yahell toolbar or any other tool bars. Doesn't do it all the time, but at least one time in three. Anyone heard of this one?

Ie8 Will Not Open Email

I am running windows xp, sp3 and ie 8 on 3 computers with avg antivirus. I have had zero problems until the other day. On one computer i.e 8 is not opening my yahoo or google e-mails. I can get to my inbox but when i click on the e-mail the computer responds "loading" and then times out. I have firefox and chrome browsers installed on this computer and can access my yahoo & google e-mails normally. I can also access my e-mails via ie8 normally on the other two computers.

I tried uninstalling ie8 and did manage to do this after uninstalling sp3. I then tried installing ie 7 but could still not access my e-mails. When i uninstalled ie 7 i was able to access my e-mails using ie6 (but it is very slow!). I reinstalled ie 8 and sp3 on the computer and still no success. I prefer ie8 to firefox and chrome and would welcome any suggestions to troubleshoot this problem.

Ie Will Not Open After Updating To Ie8

I recently reformatted my desktop pc and reinstalled xp home sp2. I have updated to sp3. I have just finished updating ie to ie8. I rebooted but, upon restarting, explorer did not open in the usual way. I selected my account to log in and my settings loaded but, when my desktop appeared, there was no taskbar and none of my icons. There was a small popup window about personalization of my browser settings (i'm sorry, for some reason i can't recall the wording) in the top left corner but, unfortunately, it hung and i had to reboot without shutting down properly.

Now, explorer starts as usual and, other programs seem to be fine but, when i click to open ie8, i get the little animated hourglass on my cursor for a moment or two - as though it is about to open - but then, it stops and nothing else happens. I would appreciate some direction on how to rectify the situation. I have to make do with a dial-up internet connection at the moment and so, if there's a way to fix it without downloading anything (simply because it takes a long time), that would be preferable.

Attachments Wont Open In Ie8

Vista home premium, att.net/yahoo email, norton internet security.pdfs and word docs open everywhere, including web sites all accessed through ie 8. However, on att.net my email attachments will not open or save (word, pdfs). Uninstalled norton and they still won't save or open so i reinstalled norton. All was fine until a week ago or so. If i use mozilla and access att.net attachments open just fine.

Specifically i open the email, click on the attachment, norton scans (maybe through yahoo), says no viruses so i hit download attachment box, file download box opens and asks if i want to save or open, click either one and file download box opens with no info in time remaining boxes, etc. , Box just sits there with the graphics running and nothing happening.

Ie8 Some Links Open, Some Don't

I am new to the forums and i need help with windows 7 ie8, version 8. 0. 7600. 16385ic. I have been searching the forums for a solution but can't seem to find one that will help me. I will try to make this brief with minimal background info. Recently upgraded from vista home premium to windows 7 home home premium on an hp slimline s3000f. 32-bit os & amd athlon 64 x2 dual core processor. I noticed this problem after the recent security update for ie8 on 3/30

When i try to click a link on a page one of 2 things happen. If i am performing a search and click on the link, it opens in the tab the search was performed in. If i am clicking a link that should open a new tab such as in a yahoo or hotmail email or as i am writing this question, there are links on the left side of the page that appeared as simular questions, nothing happens when i click the links. One other thing i notice is when i close ie8, it does not ask if i want to close all tabs and when i access again i get an message to restore previous page or close.

From what i have read about others having this problem, i've looked in my program files ie8 folder for "c:program files (x86)internet exploreriexplore.exe ", all i see is "c:program filesinternet exploreriexplore.exe". When i look at the target on the shortcuts i see the same thing. I changed the target to "c:program files (x86)internet exploreriexplore.exe " and tried to start ie only to get an error "not valid".

I also have a laptop that is running vista with ie8 and not having a problem at all with ie8.

Ie8 Won't Start / Open

So i've done a bunch of searching around and cant find anyone who has had the same problem i am having. Basically it is pretty simple. I click on any ie8 shortcut, the computer thinks for a second and then nothing. I went through the steps to disable (the ie8 "uninstall") the program and then re-enable hoping that would solve it, but nothing has changed. I am kinda at wits end because i cant download and reinstall ie8 on windows 7 and i cant get a previous version like ie7 because that isn't supported as well. 95% of what i do can be done on other browsers, but that 5% is driving me crazy. Any ideas?

Win 7 64-bit Doesn't Distinguish Between Ie8 64-bit And Ie8 32-bit

Windows 7 64bit doesn't distinguish between ie8 64 bit and ie8 32 bit when attempting to set a default browser using the control panel default programs 'associate' utility. My new windows 7 64 bit pc (luv that i7 920 intel cpu) came installed with both ie8-64 bit and ie8-32 bit (nothing more need be said regarding the absurdity of having to deal with this in the first place - i should have gone with the imac).

Anyway, ie64 bit lacks the flash player cuz adobe hasn't released a 64 bit version yet, per their website. So i can't use ie64 with xm online music stream (et al). Ie32, on the other hand, supports flash player, but won't successfully link to various embedded hypertext links, such as those embedded in an email. My initial solution was to use firefox, which served me well until an application from a local vendor will only work with internet explorer. Sigh.

I've used windows since version 2 back in the 1980s, have become stoic, and can emotionally cope with having to use 3 browsers to get the job done.

However, just for fun, my current burning question is, with two different versions of ie8 (64 bit and 32 bit) installed into windows 7, why doesn't the control panel default applications utility seem to aware of the fact that there are indeed two different versions installed? It lists firefox and internet explorer, but does not differentiate between the two flavors of ie. My goal was to set ie8 64 bit as the default browser temporarily to accommodate the vendor's application.

Fyi, by setting the default, i refer to: control panel | default programs | associate a file type or protocol with a program. Then scroll down to 'http' and click on the change program button. So in my case, firefox and only one instance of internet explorer, with no bit distinction, display as selection options.

Slow Win 7

Well i have looked at the others having the same issue although none appear to be exactly like mine so here goes. I have a new machine and its runing slow. The specs are :

Asus rampage ii extreme mobo, intel i7 950, 6 gb 1500 ddr3 corsair ram, coolermaster v8, in a lain li x 1000 case, various hd and a ssd, saphire radeon 5870 ati graphics etc. This should kill windows 7 and there is no problem with over heating and i have the latest drivers and yes norton 2010 installed but everything was fine until last couple of weeks the only thing i can think of was installing windows live and skype around this time.

The issues are ie crashes for now reason sporadically at start up, programs take for ever to load and say they are 'not responding'. For some reason norton utilities always finds errors in registry which it 'fixes' this seems to make the machine at least work but not as fast as it should. I could try removing live or norton but i'm not convinced this is the issue. 'yet'. Any ideas?

Pc Has Been Running Slow

"pc needs a fix!" Windows 7 home prem 32-bit for the past 3 weeks my pc is simply been running slow. I would compare the issue to what you would see if your hd was asleep and the delay was as a result of it waking up. However, that cannot be so because the delay continues even after the 1st action and surely the hd is not going back to sleep in under 1 second. I have run ccleaner. It shows no issues, both as to registry and cleaner (filestemp, etc).

My anti-virus program is current. I see many free offers to run a pc analysis but i am always very hesitate about running such programs. You never know the source and you never know what might be left behind. Suggestions?

Slow Installation

When installing win7 ultimate 64 bit to a new clean ssd i get to expanding windows files and the percentage meter goes up very slowly or hangs indefinitely. I sometimes get an error saying that it cannot read the media eg cd/dvd drive.

Things i have already tried to solve this:-

- Install 64 bit and 32 bit version.
- Download new 64 bit and burn slowly to disc.
- Check that all hardware is not faulty.
- Check that the hardware meets min requirements and is compatible with win 7.
- Remove all ram but one stick.
- Remove all unnecessary hardware.
- Enable/disable almost every setting in bios individually before install. This includes disabling floppy, usb etc.
- Installing win7 on a usb flash drive.
- Updated drivers, bios etc.
- Many other things i have forgotten by now that others have been successful with. I have run out of ideas.

Typing Slow In Ie

I'm a windows 7 (64) home premium user running ie 8. I've begun experiencing slow keyboard input within ie browser windows. (Other browsers, such as opera, firefox, and chrome, work fine. Also, the problem is only within ie. Even when the problem is occurring, i have no issues typing in other programs). It seems to develop over the course of a session-within a few minutes, i have to slow my input speed or characters are dropped. In time, if i don't pause with each key, i can't get complete words out.

The issue seems to have crept up. It was not an issue two weeks ago.

This is a relatively clean overall setup-i installed windows 7 with complete partition deletions about a month ago, and have been highly discerning in installing new applications.

Naturally, i worry about malware, but i've been diligently scanning with multiple programs (malwarebytes, windows defender, avast), and have yet to turn anything up. To be frank, i'm this machine's only user, and it's used with caution. I'm not plumbing the depths of the internet or downloading bootleg albums. It's used for work.

Any ideas? I could just switch completely to firefox or chrome, but i'm trying to troubleshoot.

System: acer extensa 4420 / amd turion 64 x2 tl-60 / 4gb ddr2

Backup Is Slow

I have been backing up my files for almost 5 hours now! It's on its second dvd now and is at 61%. The percentage does move but very slowly! Why is it taking so long? Is there a problem or something, and if there is how do i fix it? Thanks everyone!Edit: i just got the following message when it was 63% complete: "windows backup found errors on the media while saving a backup on it and cannot use it for additional backups" then it asked me to put in another dvd, which i did.

Now it has continued backing up and is at 63% still. Ok, so how did it find errors on the dvd, when it was a brand new dvd? So should i still keep that dvd? I have been having issues with windows backup for the past 2-3 months and its really annoying!

Xp Mode Too Slow

Recently i bought a new hp computer with dualcore processor and 5 gb of ram, 64 bit system, which came with windows 7 home edition, and i intend of using it with my mastercam x3 64-bit. My software is not compatible to windows 7, so i bought the upgrade to windows 7 pro to be able to use the virtual xp mode. The installation went smooth, but in virtual xp mode the mastercam runs unacceptable slow. I dedicated 3gb ram to the virtual xp with no success.

Mastercam dealer told me that is the computer not running fast enough because the program run much faster on a old regular xp machine. In fact the task manager in xp mode, shows me only one core processor (although the computer has dual core, which is visible in w7 task manager) which is used 100% anytime i do any small task in mastercam.

Has the virtual xp mode just an emergency use under w7 and is it known to be slower? Will i get better result from xp if i downgrade from windows 7 to xp pro?

Explorer Is Very Slow

One one of my machines windows explorer is very slow. Additionally the standard file open/save boxes in applications are very slow. I installed a windows explorer replacement and it is very fast. I can live with the replacement (in fact i kind of like it), but the open/save boxes are still slow. And no, there is no malware on machine. The drives are not full, and any way it appears to unrelated to how much free space there is on the drive.

Just so there is no confusion, this is not internet explorer, but windows explorer (most people access it by clicking on "my computer" on the desktop. I say this because have searched around there seems to be confusion about which one is asked about. I have tried the suggestion about thumbnails and indexing. It has not helped.

Very Slow Internet

Ever since i installed windows 7 pro x64 my internet has been acting weird. There are 3 other computers on the network running windows xp pro 32-bit and one running vista home premium 32bit. When ever someone else is downloading something or watching a movie online my internet slows down to sub dial up speeds from it's normal 3mbit speed. It only does it on this computer, when i am downloading something none of the others slow down at all.

It only does this with 7 also, it doesn't do this with xp or vista. I have searched all over the internet and have found nothing helpful. Everything i have come across hasn't worked a bit. I have reinstalled 7 a few times and even tried all the different versions of the ethernet card driver i could find and nothing helps.
