Shutdown Errors & Support

This seems to be a recurring theme on all the win 7 forums, the machine won't shut down properly. Select shut down, screens goes to the "shutting down" view, but the circle icon freezes after a few seconds and the machine hangs.

When i reboot, windows does not report a failure, it just boots normally and works fine, but come shut down, problems again.

This is happening everytime i use the machine, though sometimes i get the odd bsod thrown in at shut down as well, just for good measure.

I have used the internal checking within win 7 to try to find the issue, but nothing works, i don't want to have to re-install win 7 ultimate, a couple of weeks after installing it, but that is looking like the only option and that is not guaranteed to fix the issue.

I have tried to contact microsoft through their online "help & support" forum, but they say my version of win 7 ultimate is not activated (yes it is), then when i enter my product code, it says because i am not registered, i have to pay £45 for 1 hour of support.

Me pay them to have them fix a problem with their software! I thought vista was bad, this is just vista 1. 5 with bugs, should l have stuck to vista.

Anybody got any ideas on what is causing this, as lots of people are seeing this issue, yet no support answers seem to give a resolution

System specs are

Win 7 ultimate
Quad core processer
6gb of ram
2 x 512mb nvidia graphic cards working in sli mode
2 x 1tb sata hdd
28" hd monitor

Size Errors

I was going to leave teh computer for a while so i set it to sleep to conserve energy. When i returned to teh computer, i found that (when i logged back on), the size of things had seemed to change. (The icons on screen and many of the windows i opened, including aol, were much bigger). I went onto the control panel, on appearance and personalization, and tried to set teh screen size back to small(default), however, the computer seemed to think that it was already on small. I managed to get the icons back to small and some programs are normal, but other are huge windows. Can anyone help me get the size back to normal please?

Repeated Shutdown Pc To Tv

1. I think my pc cannot find the tv.

2. The pc (win 7) shuts down quickly four times and recovers quickly four times, then goes to a blue screen (with a lot of text).

3. The blue screen last just a moment, if fact i cannot read the text.

4. Then the pc reboots and ask if "i want to reboot in regular (or safe) mode).

5. The steps above then repeat, except maybe one out of ten times it finds the tv and all is right with my pc to tv world. What to do?

Cannot Shutdown After Upgrade

I've upgraded my nec notebook (versa s9100) from vista business to window 7 ultimate. After upgrading, the notebook does not shut down completely. The power light indicates that the power is on and i have to hold the power button down to cut power. When it starts up again, it will say that the computer was not shut down properly.

I can hibernate the computer but when it starts up, i get the recovery page where i have the option to start in safe mode, etc. I select "start windows normally" and it works ok. I tried doing the clean boot as suggested by other forums but it did not resolve the problem.

I realized that i forgot to turn off my avast anti-virus when i did the upgrade. Would that have affected the upgrade?

Backup Errors - 0x8007045d

Backup fails error 0x8007045d & 0x807012d chkdsk/r fails with invalid parameter. I am trying to backup my laptop to an external hard drive with which i have had no problem until now. I am using windows 7 and have a 64bit machine, so far i have reset my back-up settings i have formatted my external drive, i have performed a disk check using the "tools" in properties as every time i try run "cmd" chkdsk/g (as in " g drive") it says invalid parameter as well as trying a registry fix. My device manager says my external drive is working fine and after each failed back-up there are files written to that drive, what now?

Errors With 8gb Of Memory

So i have had windows 7 now for several months and immediately after the release date i have been reviving problems with my computer crashing saying system memory is to low. I am not sure which update has caused this and there are several since then.

It occurs usually when playing gta iv which is a high memory task, but also occurs when watching a simple dvd keep in mind i have 8g of memory and have already tried turning page file system off. In the past that's how i ran vista 64 premium with zero problems.

I ran memory test in bios yesterday and all is well, curious to know if this is an update that microsoft has released which is now crashing my computer, or furthermore a graphics card update error. I went on an update frenzy right about the time of the release date. Learned my lesson there one update at a time and check for errors. I am considering at this point removing all updates. I am up for any suggestion's. Except clean install because that at this point is not an option.

I will say i was in love with windows 7 for almost a year during beta testing, zero errors during my whole testing period, and now have become more frustrated than ever.

Update From Vista Has Errors

I have updated to windows 7 from vista. I now have problems where the cpu turns itself off in the middle of working. I have had the cpu checked for electronic problems and was told that the installation to windows 7 did not clear the harddrive of the vista program. It appears there is bits of both programs trying to vie for usage. I was informed the only way to correct the problem is to totally reformat the harddrive (as indicated when upgrading from xp) and reinstalling.

As the instructions on the windows 7 home premium please spread the word of this major 'glitch' in the installation of windows 7 to a vista environment. I have a hard time keeping the cpu on as it has a tendency to shut down from 30 seconds from turn on to 7 minutes and getting shorter. It is a major problem.

Abnormal Program Shutdown

When i close an email in outlook (2007), the whole outlook program closes; same with word docs. Not just ms office programs, this happens in other programs as well - eg copernic agent professional: close down a search and the whole program exits!Have run both virus and malware checks but nothing there. Only other possible clue is that the mouse pointer appears unduly sensitive (but can see nothing in control panel to reduce sensitivity). Am using single mouse click. Any assistance appreciated . . .

Shutdown Button Sometimes Deactivated

I have a problem with windows 7 professional 64 bit. Sometimes the shutdown button is deactivated, i can see the button but can't click on it. Only with ctrl+alt+del it's possible to shutdown, log off etc. The error appears randomly so sometimes it works, and i can shutdown, log off etc. With clicking the button. It isn't a user-right based error because i have the problem with admin rights and also with normal user rights. I don't have a policy running where the shutdown button is deactivated. I installed the os with help of the waik tools, sysprep and a unattend.xml file but i don't set anything like this in the unattend file. Does somebody have any idea what it could be?

Win7 Random Shutdown

I am using win 7 ultimate 32 bit, upgraded over vista home premium 32 bit. My laptop is randomly shutting down, it never done it while i had vista installed. It is not going in to sleep mode or anything similar, as some have suggested, it completely shuts down with no warning but can be booted up straight away. The only time i can make it happen for sure is when i run the windows experience index, it gets near to the end and then shuts down. I used to be able to run the wei before so i don't know why it does it now.

Any ideas as this is really annoying me?

Update At Shutdown Hangs Up

Os: win 7 home premium 64 bit oem installed on zt 1. 5t desktop
Service pack level:  do not know. Machine is 2 weeks old and have seen 3-5 successful updates at shutdown time.

Few weeks ago bought a quad-core zt machine that came with win 7 home premium 64 bit os and a 1. 5t hd. Have been very happy with the unit, and have seen some 3 or 4 updates at shutdown with the usual banner "please do not power off or unplug your computer; installing update 1 of x. "  So, would happily head to bed and could hear the unit shut down in five minutes or so.

Not so last evening (fri, feb 26). Saw the update screen at 11 pm, and still there as of 10 am this morning. Yes, can see some sporadic hard disk activity, and the spinning cursor.

Any idea what may be happening, and more importantly how can i break out of the update, bring to a place where i can continue my work?

Btw, have two other win 7 systems that did not have the update last evening: a netbook running home premium 32bit, and a dell desktop running win 7 ultimate. All three are on a home win 7 network.

On hp932 and hp deskjet 9800. Hp9800 and hp932 printers, hp scanjet 4470 all worked perfectly well on old windows me- i know they're old, but are there no fixes for these issues for a computer user without great technical knowledge. Or is the cure the dumpster for all my old peripherals?

Instant Shutdown Using Flash Player

I upgraded to windows 7 professional 32-bit a couple months ago from windows xp on my gateway laptop. I don't know why my computer keeps shutting down everytime i play either a video or games mainly using adobe flash player. This always happens while doing any flash applets, surfing the web, and playing games on my computer. It will freeze up for about a second and then just shut off completely to immediate power off.

It won't even allow me to restart right after it shut downs. The computer will act like it's going to restart & then shut down again a few times. I have to wait about 10-15 minutes to be able to restart it. I have uninstalled & reinstalled flash player, restored the computer to a previous state, made sure that all my drivers are updated & even tried to the system recovery/troubleshoot in windows 7. This only started after i upgraded.

Install Update On Reboot, Not On Shutdown

I have a question that i thought microsoft would have thought about and implemented years ago. When there is updates for windows that needs to be installed, why do microsoft only have the option to install these on a shut down? If there is any updates you get 2 options.

1. Shut down the computer and install updates.

2. Install the updates and hope that the update doesn't require you to reboot.

What i want is this.

1. The option to install updates when i reboot my pc because then i can install the updates if i go away for a while and the computer are updated, rebooted and ready to be used again when i get back. Even if the update doesn't require a reboot this feature would appreciated. Murphys law apples here. If you don't have the time to reboot after installing updates a reboot is required. If you do have time a reboot isn't required. And even if a reboot isn't required there is no harm done if i choose to reboot and install updates.

2. The option not to install updates when i want to shut down my pc. Sometimes i might just want to shut down the computer without having to install the update because i'm in a hurry. I don't want to have to wait for the updates to install before i can take my computer with me.

Hp Photosmart C4280 Device Failed With Errors

Local printing to the hp photosmart c4280 all-in-one device fails with errors in the error log.network printing from the macbook pro to the same printer shared from the windows 7 machine works fine.

The errors are:

The print spooler failed to load a plug-in module c:windowssystem32spooldriversx643unidrvui.dll, error code 0xc1. See the event user data for context information.

The document microsoft word - references.doc, owned by michael, failed to print on printer hp photosmart c4200 series. Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler.

Data type: nt emf 1. 008. Size of the spool file in bytes: 65536. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Client computer: \rivendell. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 2147500037. Unspecified error

Restarting the print spooler does not fix the issue. Installing the latest software and patches also does nothing. Setting permissions to full control for everyone on the unidrvui.dll also has no effect. Unchecking "enable bidirectional support" on the ports tab of the printer properties doesn't work either. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Blue Screen - Bccode Errors Start With 3b, 24, 11, 1

I have a computer that's been running vista completely fine for two years. I bought a new sata hard drive and installed windows 7 on it, removing the hard drive that had vista on it. With 7, i'm getting bluescreen errors two or three times a day, each one with a different bccode and error report. Windows and my own knowledge led me to believe it was a ram issue, so i did some troubleshooting (i've had ram go bad before) with swapping out sticks and running memory tests, with no difference detected. I was getting bluescreens regardless of which memory stick i used.

I've since put back in the drive with vista and taken out the drive with 7 and all of my hardware works fine. I have no idea what's causing 7 to crash constantly on this system. Does the cmos need to be cleared? Is there some memory somewhere that's corrupting everything? Not to mention when i install 7 it gets me all the updated drivers. I've troubleshot a computer before, but i'm totally lost with this one. Some bccode errors start with: 3b, 24, 11, and 1. Those are the ones i can remember right now.

Facebook Email Login Problem / Errors

I have had a problem logging in to facebook and my e-mail, i found a way to get into my mail. Once i was able to do that i was able to contact them. They sent a request for a screenshot of the login page and what it said and i did that, however it will not go through with the e-mail address they used when they sent the request. I was able to attach their e-mail to my to my screenshot.

I did that because my screenshot would not attach to their e-mail. So i set up my final e-mail to them and it will not go through. The e-mail page that came up is microsoft, i filled everything out and hit send and it came back saying something about my server not being microsoft and it didn't go through! If i can use yahoo to send e-mail and my service provider is not yahoo why does it go through it and not microsoft?
