Recovery Disk Gone

In the course of trying to resolve a problem with a "low disk space" error message that i have been getting i apparently my entire recovery drive (d:), about 8g.

I went to the "my computer" icon and right clicked and selected "manage", found the "disk management" section, selected my "hp-recovery (d:)", right clicked "format", changed from "fat32" to "ftns". The drive formatted and showed up empty. Then the directions i was following told me to right click on the new formatted drive and click "delete volume". It then talked about following some other steps about renaming the drive but mine has completely vanished.

So in conclusion, i'm an idiot. I deleted a recovery drive and didn't even fix the problem i set out to fix. Please if anyone can help i would be very grateful.

Disk Read Error And Recovery Disk Not Working

I have a toshiba satellite c650 that has recently come up with a disk read error. I want to access the command prompt to try some potential solutions that i have read about on the internet. I have made a windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop which also has windows 7 installed. When i use the recovery disk and it has loaded the files etc it just brings up a black screen and the cursor. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? I tried booting my acer laptop from the recovery disk and it worked fine. Also does anyone have any suggestions as to why i am getting the 'disk read error - hit ctrl, alt and delete to restart' message?

Low Disk Space On Recovery (d) Drive

I just switched my dell studio 15 from windows vista to windows 7. Once i got everything set up, i started receiving an error message that reads "low disk space on recovery drive". I have already gone and changed the program files to default to the c drive by going in through the registry (?) But am not sure what else i can do. I have tried uninstalling programs, but it tells me that i don't have enough disk space to do so. I only have the following folders in my recovery partition: dell, perflogs, program files, sources, tools, users, windows. Any suggestions of what i should do?

Full D Recovery Drive Disk Space Warning

I'm having a somewhat similar problem as a previous poster but. Have a newer computer and i upgraded from vista home premium to w7 home premium . My backup d drive is full . I guess the backup has not removed former backups . Now processing is slower and i worried about a total freeze. I used the disk manager and tried to add space onto my d from c but only ended up with an unallocated partition of 20g's .couldn't figure out how to add to d.

In the previous solution " press a special key combination when the computer starts, you can use the recovery partition to restore the computer to the way it was when it was new. " Would that remove windows 7(don't want to do that" or. Do i have to remove the partitions letters for the d? Would that just make it one big c drive? . Would that effect computers performance? How can i get that unallocated partition back to c . Or to d? Sorry for being so wordy but i could sure use some help.

Live Mail Disk Space Recovery Error

I use wlm to read alt. Binaries newsgroups. I frequently delete message bodies. I'm convinced there is a bug in wlm unless somebody can help me. When i go to close wlm, it asks if i want to recover unused disk space. I assume this is like the old oe "compact" feature. I say "yes" and wlm immediately tells me it is in use by another program. This isn't true as it is the only program running. Since alt. Binaries are huge, i can't decrease the size of the database, and when it approaches 2 gb, wlm becomes totally unresponsive and i have to resubscribe and re-download every again, terrible wast ot time. Any experts out there who can help?

Moving Data From 1st Disk To 2nd Disk

I installed my w7 on a single disk pc then i added a second disk for data. I want to have all my data (documents, photos, music, etc. ) In this second disk. In xp, when i did so, i copy my documents from "documents and settings" folder to the new location (d:/) and i was done. Now in w7 i open the "user" folder i found that files are not on a single folder but that there are several document folders (images, documents, etc. ) And settings folders (favorites, etc. ). May i copy all the user folder to the new location or i must leave there some of them in c:/system/users? In xp, when i move my documents to d:, every thing was redirected there (default1 saving folder, default download folder, defautl music folder, etc. ) In w7, would happen the same? The link on the desktop will redirect me to the location or may continue pointing the old one.

Error - Logonui Exe No Disk - Outlook Exe No Disk

I have windows 7 professional running 64 bit. A very annoying error pops up every five minutes or so. The message varies and can read "logonui exe no disk" or "outlook exe no disk" or "your favorite app. - No disk" depending on what i am running at the time. I have looked at many forums and can see that this error occurred in previous windows flavors. Some answers point to malware or infected file, others seem to think it's a corrupt install file. I have a fresh install of win 7. My previous os being xp.

I have reinstalled win7 and tried repair functions. No luck so far.

Os Recovery

I recently got a new hp all in one pc (model ms 227) and the first few days were spent exploring the changes from earlier versions of windows on previous pc's. (I used vista for a short time on my old pc, but after suffering a power supply failure which fried my motherboard, i had more recently been using my other halfs pc which wasnt a name brand, more like homemade pc running xp. ) Anyhow starting on only the 2nd or 3rd day of "learning through experimentation" i began to experience the "blue dump screen" syndrome. I attempted to restart the thing, and very shortly it happened a 2nd time, followed by a third. It seemed that it restarted slower each time until it finally got stuck.

As you maybe can tell, i am relatively "technologically limited", but am willing to try almost anything when nothing else seems to work. And one of the prompts that i was given was to "repeatedly press f11 on boot and run system recovery. (Can you guess where this is going?) Yes, i mistook system recovery for what i know as system restore. Anyway when the thing restarted again i received the error " no os system found". So apparently i inadvertently wiped my os from my hd.

As luck would have it this thing came pre loaded with the os (with no disks) and i, like an idiot, did not create the recovery disks i was advised to because i thought: this thing is brand new what can go wrong?  I'll do it as soon as i get done checking it out. (And now that i know what i did wrong, i.e: inviting "murphy" in) can any bosy help me put an os back on here. I'd hate to go out and spend more money (i dont have) on something if i don't have to.

Error Recovery

Im having some issues with windows 7, the screen is saying "windows error recovery, windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly. Startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. I have two choice's to choose from one is launch startup repair(recommended) and the other one is "start windows normally". I tried start windows normally , it just goes back to the windows error recovery screen and i tried launch startup repair that is recommended it loads and then it just goes to a black screen. I waited for it to do something but nothing happen.

Problem With D: Recovery Drive

I am on a dell inspiron 1721 computer and i recently upgraded to windows 7 from vista. Now when i try to download any application it tells me i don't have enough space on d:. So, i changed the download location to c: and it downloaded, then when i tried to go and install the program, winzip, it tells me i don't have enough space on d: even though i specifically told it to install to c:program files. Is it safe to just delete d: or somehow override anything that would go into that folder? It is very frustrating.

Recovery D Drive Filling Up

I've just installed windows 7 on a dell inspiron 1521 laptop. Although there is plenty of disk space left on the c drive, the d drive (the recovery drive) has a horizontal red bar displayed almost all across. Although it is a 10gig recovery drive it says there is only 397mb left.

For some reason ant software i install gets directed to the d drive, and also any files get directed there. I've just tried downloading i tunes and it fails as part of the programme is being directed to the d drive but there isn't enough space!

Apart from that, the system seems to run fairly fast and smooth. It's just this recovery d drive filling up. Hope someone can help.

Recovery Of Disc Image

My desktop pc had a hard drive failure. Windows 7 home premium had been installed as an upgrade from win xp a couple of months ago. Here is my question - i have replaced the bad drive with the original drive still containing win xp. I can re-install win 7  home premium, but i also have a new and unused upgrade package of win 7 professional. Also, i have a disc image of my pre-crash win 7 home premium on an external hard drive. Which win 7 should i install (home premium or professional) and can i then recover the disc image, thereby saving the re-install of every program i had pre-crash?

System Recovery Not Working

I got hp g61 window 7, amd athlon (tm) ii dual-core m300 2. 00ghz with 4. Gb ram and 64 bit window operating system. I partitioned the drive c as described in window 7 help. After partitioned c, system recovery not working, as i want to revert my computer to original factory position. When i inserted recovery disks, window 7 automatically started instead of recovery. Two questions:

1. How i can access the recovery option and revert my computer to original factory position.
2. Is my recovery disks are ok, how i can check them, why they did not work.

Error Recovery On Start Up

I have a message stating "windows failed to star. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. " I have tried both optinos1) launch startup repair (recommend)2) start windows normally choosing the first option it loads the windows file is loading  and then gets 3 bars into the windows & load screen then goes blank.

I have let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes in order to allow it to run it's diagnostic, but all that comes on the screen is the mouse cursor and nothing more. Choosing the second option, i get microsoft start up logo it runs and then a blank screen with a mouse cursor as well, but will not go past this point.

I attempted the f8 command to attempt to pick a boot another way, but it does not allow. Lastly, under the indicator lights on my lap top the processing indicator does not light up post the windows screen, thus my assumption is it will not configure in either option. The only indicator light that is present is the moon or sleep light.

Motherboard Failure And Win 7 Recovery

After recently upgrading to windows 7 ultimate 32-bit, first my old graphics card melted, which i successfully replaced, and now my motherboard recently crapped itself. I've replaced it with a different motherboard and had to upgrade my ram, but still retained the old cpu. Windows 7 now won't load, i presume because the existing drivers are incompatible. I am really, really keen not to have to do a complete reinstall of windows 7 (because my wife has all her outlook contacts on the hd and hasn't backed them up and she will make my life a complete misery if i can't recover them).

However, i notice there is no 'rebuild' function for windows 7. I have been led to believe that if i delete the old mobo and ram drivers then windows 7 is clever enough to load without them and download new ones from the internet but am unsure how to go about this. None of the safe mode functions seem to allow this. I also understand that the windows oem might not accept my old product key but would be happy if i even got to that stage at this point!I'm sure i'm not the first for this to have happened. Has anyone else come up with a creative solution?

Cannot Open File C:recovery.dat

I have been trying to install windows 7 ultimate and when the installation is almost complete, where its about to take me to the desktop, i get a huge fat red error, and on the top of the screen it says can not open file c:recovery. Dat. It stays there and the only way i can turn off my laptop is if i unplug it and remove the battery, i have also tried going into safe mode with networking witch has had the same results ending with the error screen. What can i do to continue the final stages of installing windows 7 and get my laptop in working condition again?

My laptop is a asus notebook n50vn sn: 8bn0as09004045h

I have seen this on another thread but it doesnt work. My windows 7 ultimate is on a usb and cant be burnt onto a dvd. Try starting your computer in safe mode, follow these steps:
1. Restart your computer if it is powered on.
2. Tap the f8 key after your computer initially powers on.
3. Once you see the advanced boot options menu you can stop tapping.
4. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
5. Select safe mode with networking and press enter.
6. You should see drivers loading, and then please wait.
7. You should then be at the welcome screen.
8. Logon to your computer using an account with administrator privileges.

Specific Drive Recovery Supported Or Not?

Let the case be:-1. I have a 240 gb hdd. I partition it into three drives of 80, 80, 80 gb each. 2. The drive names are c, d and e. I am using e: drive for recovery drive. 3. Now i create recovery of only c: drive in e: drive. Now is it possible that whatever changes i do to the d: drive, they are not undone when i recover my system. i.e. If i have copied some stuff in d: drive after creation of recovery for c: drive and hadn't created recovery for d: drive, then on restoration of my c: drive will the data on d: drive be safe or will the stuff in it will also get changed?

System Image Recovery Stops

I had to send my laptop in for an rma, so i made a system image of my drives using the windows 7 backup utility. I have a single 250gb hard drive which is partitioned into two different drives. My c: had mostly windows 7 files and some programs while my d: had game installations and was used for general storage. When i received the laptop back (they just had to replace my dvd drive), i noticed they reformatted my hard drive and threw windows vista back on the thing, but the partitions still looked to be the same as before.

My system images were stored on a 1tb external drive, so i booted off of a windows 7 recovery cd and attempted to restore the c: and d: drives. After 13 minutes in the progress bar reaches about 1/3 of the way in. The hard drive activity light switches from always on to just flickering every couple seconds and no more progress is made. I've given it over an hour just sitting at this spot, but no matter how much time is given, the restore does not progress.

I've tried changing different options in the restore utility (only restoring one drive, formatting the drives to match the images and not), but no matter what i do, i get the same problem. I've also tried running the system image recovery from a windows 7 disk and from within windows 7 after a clean install. Does anyone have any suggestions? When i made the system image, i was told it was successful.

Backup And Recovery, Moving Backups

When i set up the automatic backup, i directed it to use the space i had available on a hard drive. Within a few days, it began to give me "low backup space" messages.
I have since bought an external hard drive and have redirected backup and restore to store backups there. I am still getting frequent "low backup space" messages for the first drive i used.
1. How can i convince the system that it needs no more space on the first drive because i will not be storing any more backups there and to stop telling me about the "low backup space"?
2. Can i move the backups from the first drive to the second drive so that all of my backups are in one space and the space on the old drive is freed for other purposes?

Login Password Recovery / Reset

A friend of mine is setting up a new laptop with windows 7. He gave his assistant his chosen password to access windows, however, she forgot to write the case combination she used down. So now he can't access windows. Is there a password recovery section or a way that he can reset this. I am not sure if there were alternate security questions asked that he could refer to, but getting around the password with alternate questions, would he still need the password to be able to reset this?
