Blank Screen After Installing Win 7

I have been wrestling with windows 7 to get it to run on my new machine i just built, apparently i have the upgrade only version, so i had to install vista then windows 7, etc. Then when i got that running yesterday windows tells me my cd key, that i have physically in my hand, on the original box, is invalid. I check the error code online, find out that i need to call microsoft to activate it over the phone, because i have used it too many times in a certain time frame. All of these uses are re-formats by the way.

So, today when i tried to log into windows so i could get the error code window again, and make my phone call to microsoft my windows won't start. I get past the "windows is loading" screen, with the four floating balls that form the windows logo, and it loads my mouse pointer, and a black screen. And then, nothing. I let it sit for over an hour, still nothing, i try ctrl-alt-delete to get it working on something, maybe kick start the load, nothing. I loaded all fail safe settings in my bios and then ran it in safe mode, still the same result. I honestly have no idea where to go with this next.

Installing Win 7 Stays On Blank Screen

Ok i had the problem before when installing windows 7 it stayed on the blank screen. I did what andre da costa suggested and finally got the download to install and reached the desktop i was trying to get my internet connection set up along with some updating when i had to restart my computer. Then it wouldn't boot back to the desktop. I did all the things that dan v. Suggested in safe mode with updating display drivers and i even updated other software and it still would not work now i'm stuck in safe mode writing another e-mail. What else am i doing wrong or forgot to do?

Screen Goes Blank

After i have updated my computer from xp to win7 i have been experiencing a strange thing. My screen goes blank after 60 seconds of inactivity.initially when it happened i saw that my graphic card driver (nvidia geoforce 8400gs) was not updated - which was also causing some blue screen errors. After i updated the drivers the blue screen error went away but the blank screen error sort of comes and goes. It stays for some time (a week or something) and then goes away for a month etc. Two reasons i could think of.

1. Power options - everything set to "never"
2. Graphics drivers - up to date

Any idea why i would be seeing this ?

Blank Screen After Upgrade

During the upgrade from vista ultimate to windows 7 ultimate the screen went blank so i am not even sure that win 7 installation was successful. As i could see nothing on the screen i waited 5 hours until my pc went absolutely quiet with no sign of installation activity. I then did a hard reboot. The pc powers up and powers down 3 times before staying on, but the screen remains blank as the monitor is in power saving mode. I have tried everything to get the monitor out of power saving mode but cannot change it.

This means that i cannot boot into any mode (safe mode included) as i have no monitor picture. I carried out the ~win advisor tests and removed all programs it suggested. The only thing i could not remove was the "ati catalyst control centre and install manager" each time i tried to remove them i got the message that setup.exe was not responding, so i could not remove them. How can i get my monitorto come on without being in power saving mode, and if not, is there any other way i can boot into safe mode which will switch the monitor on?

Blank Screen On Restart With A Cursor Blinking

I have a inspiron 1545 and when i restart with a verizon wireless modem plugged in to a usb port & it gives me a blank screen with a cursor blinking in the top left corner. When i pull it out on restart it boots. However, when i start it with it plugged in it works fine. I know the problem is my computer because my wife has the same 1545 and no problem. I can work around by pulling it, on restart but it seems my computer has a problem.

Also, upon further testing it is not the verizon wireless modem only , that hanged up restart. It is the fact i have 2 modems plugged in. The other is a wireless logitech mouse. When i take either out restart works. So with both plugged in restart goes to a blank screen & when i only have one of them plugged in restart works. I have disabled the usb on boot sequence and it had no effect. Any ideas?

Blank Blue Screen - No Bios Error

I recently built myself a new computer. It's components are:-2 nvidia gtx470 connected via sli-core i7 930-3 3gb ddr3 ram sticks-asus p6x58d-e x58 r motherboard-antec|tp-750 750w rt power supply now, it's been running fine for the past 2 weeks. Perfectly, in fact. However my dad dragged me away on vacation to the dominican republic so i left the computer with my mom and grandma since they use it. Now, last night my mom told me that she got a problem. When she turned it on and tried to access her session she got a blank blue screen. No error messages, nothing.

I told her to hard restart it, and when she did it gave her the "windows shut down unexpectedly, start in safe mode or boot windows normally?" Message. When she told it to boot up normally, it was fine. I told her to restart it again to see if the bios would report any errors like it normally does when there's hardware failure but nothing came up. The more i think about it though, the less likely it seems like it'd be a hardware issue though, since this problem would've arisen much sooner since before i left i was playing alot of games, wouldn't it?

This morning when my grandmother turned on the computer again she got the same problem. I told her to hard reset it again, and once more it booted up normally after that. I had her run r-kill (which reported no malicious processes) and run malware bytes and microsoft security essentials. After that i'm going to have her insert the windows 7 disc to run a repair. What exactly is the problem though? Is there anything else that i should be doing?

We have been using the system regularly and almost daily, on shut down there are updates 1 of n to install. That happened the night before the crash and it was 1 of 1 and taking over 15 minutes so i turned off only the monitor so we could sleep.

Mouse Doesn't Move - Screen Goes Blank

Windows 7 ultimate 64bit seem to just 'lock up', by 'lock up' i mean the mouse (razer mamba) doesn't move, the keyboard (logitech g19)'s screen goes black, the 'windows key' doesn't work, the keys don't light up and alt+ctrl+del don't work, my game pad (logitech g13) doesn't work, webcam (logitech orb) doesn't work or light up.

I have tried as many things as i can think of, re-installing the os, putting my computer at stock settings (i had gpu, cpu and ram overclocked), re-installing the os, i have disabled the 'usb selective suspend setting' i have tried reverting to the vista 64bit drivers, 'checking' the computer memory, replacing the hard drive with a new one, tried doing this 'clean boot' thing, still no luck.

Since i changed this setting i am having problems getting a display on the laptop ( when the hdmi cable is connected ). Black Screen After Installing Norton

It seems this is a common problem from what i have read. I have an acer pc that was recently upgraded to windows 7. The pc was working fine until last night when i tried installing norton 360 3. 0 (i was previously running norton internet security 2009). When i started installing 360, it detected that i had internet security already installed and began uninstalling it.

Everything was going fine until it restarted after the uninstall. As it finished starting up, i got the dreaded black screen. I can see & move the cursor, do a cntl-alt-del to go into task manager, but that's about it. I've tried booting in safe mode (several options), doing a system restore and just about every other option for startup, and nothing helps. Please advise.

Screen Display After Installing Win 7

Yesterday i did a clean install of win 7 home premium. After the install completed i attempted to adjust the screen display. Nothing i try can get my screen display back to how it appeared prior to installing 7. Now everything is a bit odd – the bottom menu bar is too wide and takes up too much space on the page. No matter what setting i use for screen resolution either the page itself or the font is too small or too large. My previous settings no longer work and the new ones display very oddly making it hard to see or read the pages. This is true regardless of application or web use.

I’ve attempted using just about every screen resolution, background, desktop option available including personalized settings. I’m trying to figure out what changed with the installation of 7 and how to resolve this issue and return the display to the pre-7 state.

Monitor Will Just Go Blank

I have an issue where my monitor will just go blank. The computer is running but no display. My first thought was that this is a display adapter/video driver issue but i not longer think so. Let me explain. My set up is a hp m9040n running windows 7 ultimate x64. I have a nvidia 9600 gso card that is less than 6 months old and use a samsung syncmaster t240 monitor.

This first started happening about one month ago right after i upgraded my video card driver to the latest version. I would be away from the computer for awhile and when i came back no amount of mouse shaking would bring the screen on. At that point a hard shut down and boot up would bring things back.

Thursday it got worse. Hard shut downs would not bring anything back but i would see the bios startup screen so obviously the monitor and display adapter has some output. I started in safe-mode and installed that latest driver from the nvidia website. No difference, in fact it appears to be the same driver that windows update put out.

My next step was to roll back my driver to the one that came with my video card. This kind of works. There are new symptoms now. Now what happens is that after working for awhile i would hear the usual kind of insert/disconnect sound (like plugging in a usb device) and then the screen resolution would change from 1920x1200 to 1024x768. For some reason the monitor according to the screen resolution control would go from my monitor to a generic. If i click on the detect button, the screen will blank out and once again i have to do a hard shut down. The hard shut down followed by a boot in safe mode and and reboot restores things to normal.

Blank Hard Drive

I just had a new hard drive installed on this pc. I asked the tech to install windows 7 instead of vista. Windows 7 is over overwhelmingly great in every aspect! The graphics, sounds, music and pictures are everything one could even hope to have. My main concern is when microsoft takes windows 7 rc from my hard drive - what am i going to end up with?Nothing? A blank screen? Anyone and everyone who might know what i should do, please answer this as it does have me worried. Should i put another version of windows on the pc now or just wait for the sale of windows 7?

I recently upgrade my computer from windows vista to windows 7. Everything seems to start up fine, but then the desktop icons are just blank sheets, the task bar isn't functioning, and when i go to the start menu, i can not click on any of the programs (there is a small magnifying glass that appears next to the program when i click on it). Also whenever i double click on icons on my desktop, the computer becomes non responsive and the computer also stalls.

Media Center Causes Blank Monitor

I am using windows 7 as an htpc hooked up to a 42 inch plasma tv. I have media center set to open on start-up at which point everything works great. I will occasionally close or minimize media center in order to check email on the machine. When i try to go back into media center my screen goes completely blank about 70% of the time. Minimizing vs a full close/open of media center doesn't seem to matter. Ctrl-alt-del or alt-tab don't work either. My only solution is to do a hard reset. Is there anyone else out there with this same issue?

Change Adapter Settings Blank

I'm using a copy of windows 7 that i upgraded from a vista pc, the problem is that every time i go into network and sharing center, and then click on change adapter settings the options are completely blank. There's nothing to click on in the windows, no icons no text, nothing. Normally this wouldn't be a problem for me, a short reinstall of my network drivers got my internet up and working again fine, but i use a program called hamachi that was destroyed in the upgrade.

To fix it, i need to get into this menu, as i said my normal internet works perfectly it's only this small glitch that's giving me problems. I've researched people having similar issues with this program that are only solved through a clean install of windows, which i'd like to avoid if at all possible. I'm almost certain it's a problem with the registry, any help would be appreciated.

Shortcuts Show Blank Icon

I have windows 7 home, 32-bit installed for quite a while. Yesterday i installed the microsoft online services single log-n. Now i don't know if this is a coincidence - i did try uninstalling it and the problem was still there. All shortcuts are showing the blank, white default. No matter where they are: desktop, task bar, start menu. I have tried everything i can find:

1) deleting the iconcache. Db, there are several methods and i tried them all.

2) using tweak programs that supposedly reset the icons3) resetting my background, monitor resolution, and icon size.

4) trying to recreate the icons by dragging them to the desktop and create a new icon.

5) clicking on the icon, properties and change the icon nothing works. The icons are blank in safe mode and when i log-on as another user. It is really bad when i have a lot of programs running and they are all blank on the task bar!

Blank Dropdown When Browsing Through Folders

I just installed windows 7 and have a problem. When i browse through my files, (using what i believed is called the windows explorer, by pressing "the-windows-button"+e), i see my current location as usual on the top "address bar" or whatever its called. But on the right of this address bar there is an arrow, and when i press it there is a drop menu, where in previous versions of windows there showed the tree-expantion of my current location, but now this drop down is completely empty, which is very uncomfortable.
