After Remote Login, Network Printers Go Offline

In windows vista, whenever i would remote login to my home pc, my default printer (which happened to be a network shared printer off my server) would clear its default setting. That was annoying but easily fixable. I've since upgraded to windows 7 ultimate and i'm having a related problem. Now whenever i login remotely to my home pc, my default printer (same network shared printer - hp lj 4000) goes offline, and it only comes back online after a reboot.

This is a huge pain point for me because i typically have 20+ windows/applications running at any given time and a reboot takes 30 minutes out of my day to get me back to where i was.

Missing Local Printers In Remote Desktop Connection

When i used remote desktop connection (rdc) inwindows xp, all my local printers showed up in the print dialog boxes in the remote computer. Now that i have windows 7 ultimate 64-bit, in rdc sessions i only see the built in windows printers: "fax (from localcomputer)" and "microsoft xps document writer (from localcomputer). " I have two local printers: a network laser printer that is on a tcp/ip port and a usb ink jet that is on my file server. How do i get these to show up in my remote sessions like they did with xp?

Login Hang After Remote Desktop

I'm seeing a strange hang with using my new windows 7 ultimate (64-bit) machine together with remote desktop. The steps i'm going through are the following:

1.configured the win7 machine to enable remote desktop.

2.connect to the win7 machine using remote desktop from my xp machine (same subnet). At this point, everything is working fine and i can operate the win7 machine correctly from the xp machine.

3. Disconnect from the win7 machine by selecting "disconnect" from the start menu. This closes down remote desktop on the xp machine.

4. Try to reconnect to the win7 machine using remote desktop or
5. Try to log in on the console of the win7 machine.

Neither 4 nor 5 work if i have ever connected to the machine using remote desktop. For #4, remote desktop hangs for a little while and then disappears, as if it's connection was established and then dropped. No error appears. For #5, the console just sits at the "welcome" page with the little spinning busy icon, as if it is hung trying to load setting prior to displaying the desktop.

In either case, the only option to regain access to the machine appears to be to power off the system (losing data). The system is otherwise completely unresponsive. I don't see any of this instability if i don't use remote desktop.connecting on console normally otherwise always works. Any ideas for how to resolve this, or if (when) a hotfix is going to be available?

Network Printer Shows As Offline When Its Online

Network printer shows as offline when it's online at its locally connected computer. Printer is laserjet 4000 attached through a usb port. Printer driver is hp universal printing pcl 5 (v5. 1).computer which has printer connected locally is windows 7 professional 32 bit.computer which has printer showing as offline is windows 7 professional 64 bit. Fter acquiring and implementing 64-bit printer driver everything works well for about 24 hours, then printer shows as offline. Trouble shooting says set printer to default printer - no change in status. Unlike vista, there doesn't appear to be any way to set the printer status as online.

Network Printers Disappear In Win 7

I connect to two printers on my office network. One is a dell laser printer, the other an hp deskjet. They have been working fine for many, many months, both for me and for my coworkers.

I recently upgraded to windows 7 from xp and have been working out the kinks. I noticed today that, after rebooting, my network printers are visible in the devices and printers dialog. However, the moment i try to print from word or excel (perhaps other things as well; these are the only two apps i've tried), they both disappear, leaving me no printers. Excel gives me the message "no printers are installed. "

If i try to add the printers, i get a message, "windows can't open add printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine. " I reboot, they show up again. Try to print, they disappear again.could be coincidence, but i did install windows mobile device center 6. 1 today. Not sure what that would matter, though. I am running office 2007.
Any thoughts?

Update: it appears that the problem is caused by office 2007. I can print fine from outlook, but the moment i try to print from word or excel, the printers disappear - and i need to reboot to get them back. Also, no one else in the office has the problem. They can all print fine.

Dual Boot With Xp And Network Printers

Win 7 64 bit dual boot with xp pro & d-link dir -655 cannot find network printers. Have logged into dir-655 and it will not hook up to printers. Does have internet connection. Printers are plugged into router. Amazingly finds an old hp 1220c (12 years old!) Which is connected directly to computer. Have attempted to download drivers to "ghost" drive, does not recognize os.

Purpose of 64 bit is for bim files from autocad and vico. Nvida 9600 installed and drivers are available for it. You folks will chuckle at one problem with multiple monitors, cannot renumber them, thus to use win 7 i reverse positions on desk (not desktop) physically so mouse will move from left to right.

Installed Printers Do Not Appear In Devices And Printers

I have five printers installed and all working from any of my programs; however, only one of these printers appears in "devices & printers". That is a problem because you cannot share a printer that is not recognized there. I have tried "add printer" numerous times and they do show up in my programs printer options, but they do not show up in "devices and printers". Any ideas?

No Printers Showing Up In Devices And Printers

Basically, i have installed a printer on my win7pro machine here. The printer can be printed to from various applications. However, the printer does not show up under devices and printers. The printer does show up under print management though.

Printer is an epson color stylus 2200 connected via usb.computer is a dell d620 laptop. Win7 was cleanly installed - no upgrade. The printer is visible (for example) from corel paint shop pro x2.

Anyone have any ideas what setting i need to set to enable printer visibility under devices and printers? Is there something else wrong here? Is this easily fixable?

Update: i just added a network shared printer (brother 7040 connected to a winxp machine) to this win7 laptop and it too is not visible under devices and printers. What is different here though is that this printer is also not visible under print management.

Printers Do Not Showing Up In Devices And Printers

I have just upgraded from vista home premium (x64) to windows 7 home premium. The upgrade went fairly well, but neither of my printers was working after the upgrade. The software warned me that the driver for my brother hl 1240 might be a problem, so i was not surprised there, but my hp business inkject 2230 also did not work.

Both initially appeared in devices and printers. But i deleted them and reinstalled them to get the upgraded drivers. As i did this i realized that i had misdirected the lpt ports to both printers. However, now the printers do not appear on the devices and printers screen, but do appear when accessed via other software. I need to delete them so that i can redirect output to the correct printer, but cannot find anyplace to delete them.

Network Printer Listed Under "devices" Not In "printers And Faxes"

Network printer installs but is listed under "devices" not "printers and faxes". I have a dell 3130cn color laser that is connected to my network (hard line). I have installed from my wireless-connected laptop using the windows 7 add printer wizard, and everything works fine, even the test page. But the printer shows up in my devices list. S a result it seems like i cannot print.

Office applications do not show the 3130cn as a printing option. I do have another printer paired, a brother laser printer. It works fine and was installed the same way (add a printer->add a network, wireless, or bluetooth printer). Can i move the 3130cn from the devices list to the printers list? Is there some other way i can force the install to run correctly?

Login Twice Issue (double Login)

Currently, i am having issues with a few of my machines. When the user logs in it accepts the credentials, comes up with the welcome, and then it prompts them again for their user name and password. After the login the second time, everything runs smoothly. It has occurred with domain accounts as well as local accounts. I've checked the events and there are no flags being thrown. It just doesn't continue to the next step. It doesn't occur every time, and there is no way of predicting when it does. Any ideas?

How to disable/replace "devices and printers" by "printers" like vista in windows 7 start menu we are currently working on windows 7 test deployment but would like to replace the "devices and printers" in windows 7 start menu by the classic "printers" we all know in windows vista. Is there any way to do this? The "devices and printers" is not quiet user friendly in a "enterprise" environment. We prefer the keep it easy for the end user. Is where any way to make the classic "printers" in the start menu?

Printer Offline

New laptop with windows 7 - initially no issues with pairing to wireless internet and printer hp photosmart premium c309g-m until i bought home work laptop also with windows 7. Needed to use wireless printer and to connect temporarily to internet this system forced me to setup network group (not being completely sure what i was doing but thought i was doing no harm).

Thats when the problems started, this disabled our home laptop computer which before this was wirelessly connected to the printer and internet it stopped printing or connecting to internet even after joining the network group (for home computer with correct pass words etc) many many hours waisted, eventually got connection back to internet by restoring to a previous date.

I then deleted the  network groups, the printer shows as default in devices and printers but when fails to print saying it is offline, i have tried deleting printer and searching for bluetooth from both laptop and from the printer end a well (none detected).

No Offline Files

I have a user that has offline files enabled and syncing. When she takes her laptop out of the office, she can login and see her files, work with them and return to the office an sync the changes. Now for the problem, if she wants to connect to say a hotel wi-fi, she can do so, but after logging in she doesn't have her offline files. It appears that windows 7 creates a new profile for her. She is using her domain login credentials and does not change to (this computer) when she is connected elsewhere.

Offline Folders

I have a general question having to do with offline folders. If you have offline folders and say someone then on the server moves some files into a subfolder. When you resync back up how is that handled? Are the files deleted and the copied on your offline folder cache or are they moved? And what happens if you happened to make a change to a file, but it's been moved on the server? I've been looking, but can't find any documentation as to what happens when. Can somebody please help me out?

Offline File Synchronisation

As an experienced xp pro user, i am somewhat surprised at what appears to be limitations associated with win 7 offline file synchronization process in xp pro files would sync on log on, log off and as frequently in between as you established. However in win 7 it appears to only sync on log on [and as timed in between] but not on log off - am i correct?

If so am i also correct that there is a strong potential of losing recently updated network files that when you log off [ie after the last timed sync] and as such are not on the remote/network pc/laptop. Has anyone encountered this problem and more importantly identified a way of resolving it please.

Offline Files Problem

i have a network with:

Desktop - win 7 ultimate
Dell laptop - win 7 pro
Sony laptop - win 7 home premium
Netgear readynas duo

I have tested the "always available offline" function on the desktop and dell laptop and it works fine with files on the nas. However on the sony laptop the right-click option "always available offline" does not appear. I can find the sync center in the control panel, but when i go to "set up new sync partnerships" it says " there are no new sync partnerships that can be set up on this computer". Also the "manage offline files" link doesn't work.

Can anyone help me enable this? I'm assuming that this function is available on home premium as there is an entry in the control panel.

Offline Files Problems

I'm having all kinds of problems trying to get offline files to cooperate with me. This is the first windows 7 machine we have on the domain. We have been running xp with offline files successfully for several years. Some info about the setup:

The machine is connected to our domain (2003 level). H: is mapped to the users' home directory on our file server (2003 server r2). The mapping is done through the profile tab for the user in active directory. "Documents" and "desktop" are redirected to h:documents and h:desktop via group policy.

According to windows explorer, both documents and desktop have offline files enabled (i believe this is by default when using folder redirection). If i'm online, i can force a sync by right-clicking each folder and selecting "synchronize selected offline files" (i'm on swedish win7, so it might not say exactly that). However, if i go into the synchronization center and hit synchronize, nothing happens. The status just reads "waiting for synchronization". No error messages, no event log messages, nothing.

Another issue i'm having is that if i pull the network cable, the folders go offline and i can continue to work on documents as well as save new ones, but when i reconnect the network cable, it doesn't go online again. Even logging out and in again doesn't help. In order to get back online, i need to restart the computer. And even then, when i login, it won't synchronize automatically. I still have to force the sync by right-clicking each folder and hitting synchronize.

It should be noted that after re-connecting the network cable, it appears the computer doesn't even have connectivity with our domain. For example, running gpupdate results in an error about not being able to contact the domain controller. What's up with that?

Offline Files Lost

I have map network drive on my computer. Which is connected to a data folder on an other computer in my small office network. I hade activated the service "enable offline files".

Today when i loged on sync process started. When it was in process i disabled the function  "enable offline files". Sync was stoped. But some files from that folder on another computer are now missing. Now from where i can find those files.

Perhaps when sync was in progress i disabled the offline files and the files from my computer could not be copied to that network computer. Please tell from where now i can restore those files. They are five files which are missing.

I am much worried. I dil not know that how offline files work so i did by mistake. But that data in those files was very important. That contains record of my company for many years.

Oki Laser Printer Offline Error

I'm using windows 7 64bit edition and an oki c5150n laser printer and have downloaded the latest drivers from the website. It always says the printer is offline, and when i uncheck the "use printer offline" mode, anytime i try and print it gives an error, which troubleshoot "fixes" by turning the printer to offline mode and the file i sent to print still does nothing. I have checked the cords, rebooted the printer and computer, as well as using "remove device". Any ideas would be appreciated
