Taskbar Flickers

I've been finding that the taskbar flickers to black, like the images disappear. It happens to the time, buttons, start menu windows icon, etc. It flickers back and forth and eventually stops. I'm thinking it's a driver problem? There seems to be no pattern as to what's causing it. Here's my hardware info:

Mobile intel(r) 965 express chipset family (microsoft corporation - prerelease wddm 1. 1)

After An Accidental Shutdown The 32-bit Program Flickers

Dreamweaver 8 worked fine for the first few days on my windows 7 computer. Oddly the companion program, fireworks, is just fine. I accidentally hit the power strip and turned the computer off. Since then it it won't open. When i try to open it, it flickers on, then disappears. Same thing happens when i try to get the 8. 02 patch from macromedia.

Yes, it's an older version, but i am reluctant to buy cs4 since it's not quite compatible and they're coming out with cs5 sometime this year. Does the flickering signal something worse with my computer? Any way to get this 32-bit program running again?

Screen Flickers To Desktop When Using Outlook Email

We have just bought a toshiba netbook nb200 with 1gb ram and an atom 1. 6ghz processor. It has windows home premium installed. When going from preview to full view of emails (and also sometimes changing from calendar to email & back) the screen flickers frequently going from outlook then flashing to desktop for fractions of a second and back. Emails that usually take less than a second to load can take up to 10 seconds when this happens.

It seems to occur regardless of how many other programs are open at the same time. A similar issue, probably related, is encounter when opening large word documents (>2mb). On these occasions it is just the title bar that flickers. Would love some suggestions

Taskbar Bug

Found a small bug in the highlighting of applications on the taskbar. Tested with windows explorer, haven't tested any others. Always reproducible on my machine.

Open two windows. Show the previews by mousing over the icon. Mouse over one of the windows, and hover over the close button. Once the window comes to the front, close it using the close button on the preview, then move your mouse off the preview so that the preview will close soon. The highlight stays on the icon no matter where you move the mouse, until you focus another window or mouse over a taskbar icon again.

Taskbar Icons

With windows explorer, when i have multiple tabs, open, the taskbar shows one icon and when i hover on it, the open windows are shown as thumbnails from left to right. I want them stacked one above the other with no thumbnail showing. Is that an option?

I have the same issue with outlook, i usually have about 8 or 9 open emails and it is hard to find the one i was working on, because i have to scan the top of the thumbnail to look for the relevant email. Let me know if there is one way i can change the default on all windows applications.

Taskbar Change

Today i noticed that when i scroll over the icons on the taskbar i no longer get a small image of what would be displayed on the screen if i clicked on it. I only get a small grey rectangle that gives me the information in text form. For instance, when rolling over the internet explorer icon that was previously opened as the google page, instead of the image of the google page i get a small grey rectangle that says "google - windows internet explorer". Can i change this back to what it was before easily, or what caused this to happen?

Taskbar Frozen

My taskbar will randomly freeze and be completely unresponsive. I have to reboot it and it usually restarts the program "explorer.exe"

My taskbar has had this problem since i got the computer, but it seems to get worse as time goes on. I had figured it was a problem with vista, and was looking forward to not dealing with it anymore.

Prior to upgrading to windows 7, i discovered that the problem was a clash between my speaker driver and windows vista. I simply had to disable my speakers to avoid the problem.

I was expecting windows 7 to fix the problem, and it did at first. The problem reappeared last week and a simple restart of the computer (i often leave my laptop on for days at a time. I only close it at night, not turn it off) fixed it for a few days. It has reappeared today, and has happened repeatedly. I have not restarted the computer as of yet, but i would like to find a more permanent solution than disabling my speakers or restarting it. I am afraid i will go back to where i was with vista which was a giant pain in the butt.

Flashy Taskbar

I just recently upgraded my laptop from windows vista to windows 7. All was well until i noticed that my taskbar was. You guessed it. Flashing. Its like being "refreshed". The taskbar was appearing and disappearing (i can see my desktop background) the opened windows are still there though. It happened a couple times already this week. I tried rolling my mouse over the taskbar to where ever was flashing and then it stopped. What's wrong with my taskbar? O_o

Taskbar Customization

Is there a way to use the old school taskbar (left click on an icon opens a new instance of the program, buttons don't change size, etc. ). The whole "shortcut turns into taskbar icon" concept is actually rather annoying.

I'm definitely not a fan of some of ms's practices of late. They tend to change the interface alot without making it customizable (vista, 7, office 2007). They can't possibly expect everyone to like the new eye-candy stuff, especially when it lowers productivity.

Taskbar Functionality

Why was a useful feature removed? Auto-hide is quite possibly the most annoying function ever;  i would prefer to be able to allow windows to open over the taskbar and if i need it hit the windows key on the keyboard live we've been able to do for close to 10 years.

It's like being able to drag items around in the all programs area of the start menu;  you can do it, but they will just re-alphabetize themselves even if you turn 'sort all programs menu by name' off - why did we lose this functionality, and what's the point of the preference being there at all if it's going to sort regardless?

Problem With Taskbar

I just installed the latest windows 7 update and i'm having some troubles with my taskbar. Before, if say i had a few internet explorer windows open, i could hover my mouse over the ie icon and right above it a few little windows would pop up that would display what each different window was showing. I could then move my mouse up and hover over one of the little windows, which would show me the website full-screen and i could click on it to have that be what window i am currently at.

Since the update this morning, i hover my mouse over the ie icon or any other icon that has multiple things running, the little windows pop up for just a second and then vanish, so i am unable to preview/switch between different windows. I know i can go into taskbar settings and turn off auto combine to make it easy to swith between windows, but the whole hover over icon/little windows thing was an awesome feature that i really like.

Hiding Taskbar

Windows 7 ultimate x64 with all updates. I recently did a clean install of windows 7 ultimate x64. Unfortunately, i cannot get the taskbar to stay hidden. Here is what happens when i try.

1. Right click and select properties.
2. Uncheck auto-hide the taskbar.
3. Press apply
4. Check auto-hide the taskbar.
5. Press apply.

At this point the taskbar slides down while the swirling busy icon shows. As soon as the swirl disappears and the apply button grays out the task bar slides up. No matter what is running and visible on the desktop the taskbar is still there. If a window reaches the bottom of the screen the taskbar is on top of it.

I have shutdown and rebooted - the taskbar remains. What is really annoying is that before i did the latest clean install the taskbar would hide. If i brought it up for something it would go away if i just clicked on the desktop. Additional information: i have changed all taskbar icons to notify only and removed all toolbars and the problem persists.

Taskbar Getting Full

I think, at least for me, i have found one thing about windows 7 that i am unhappy about; the quick launch task bar. With xp i could put as many programs on my bar as i wanted. When the 'visual' space got full then you could click on a little arrow and the rest would pop up in a little window. Unfortunately 7 doesn't seem to have that. So far the only way i have found to increase space was to increase the size of the the task bar from one line to multiples.

I don't loke a fat task bar. I like the thin one. Takes up less space on the monitor and i like to be able to view as much as i can without scrolling to much. Ergo. Thin task bar. So my question is. Is there any way to get the task bar to pop up the little window with the rest of my icons?

Ie8 Freezes In Taskbar

When i start ie8 the icon opens in the bottom taskbar, but the window does not open. If i click with the left mouse on the icon that opened on the bottom task-bar the window still does not open. There is no error message. The right mouse click does not bring anything neither. When i want to close it with the task manager it tells me "program does not react* a check with ms fix it does not show any mistakes. I have reinstalled and installed ie8 several times with no improvement. I tried to reinstall ie7 but with no success.

Even i have thoroughly taken of ie8 with uninstaller it tells me ie7 can not be installed because there is a newer version installed. I'm using xp professional with service pack 3. The only browser working at the moment is safari. I tried opera which worked at the begin but after a few times opening and closing the same problem as with ie8 appeared.

Sorting Taskbar Items

I read that with windows 7, they have added the ability to reorder the open application windows in the taskbar by dragging them. I tried it and found that it drags all the windows of a specific application. I don't group all windows of a specific application so i am finding that the reordering "feature" doesn't do what i had hoped.

For example. Let's say i have 3 different ie windows open to different webpages. If i drag one of them in the taskbar, it doesn't do anything except drag all 3.
Is there a way to drag just one window to reorder it or is the reordering function useless?

Network Icon In Taskbar

Running windows 7 home prem 32bit today when i powered on my laptop the network icon that normally displays in the right side of the taskbar was missing (the icon that shows the strength of your wireless signal). When i view network &sharing center this wireless network signal meter icon is displayed. It had been there prior to today. I clicked on. Show hidden icons, it was not there, i clicked customize. It shows this icon is not active. Where do you check "show icon (network) in taskbar?

Taskbar - Cannot Tell What Applications Are Open And What Are Not

In the past the taskbar icons was on left and the applications open was in the middle. Now they both are all over the place. I can't tell what is opened or not. I want it back the it was. Also i want my show desktop icon back. I hate the extra step of right click the task bar and then click on show desktop. Why speed things up and then slow things down when i have to close all the icons up because i don't what is open and what is not. Also i hate right clicking the internet explorer to start another one again. I miss xp where you just click on it and it opened up another one.

Taskbar Window Switching

Under win7 if i'm running excel with say 5 different workbooks active they're all shown on the task bar as one excel icon. Then when i click that it shows the 5 active workbooks and asks me to select one to activate.

Is there some way to tell win7 that when i click on the excel icon i just want the most recently active version immediately activated? Or to display separate icons rather than all stacked up as one?

This isn't just an excel issue, but many other programs where there are multiple instances or data sets open. I just want to go to the most recently used one which is correct 95% of the time. Can i eliminate the extra step?

Taskbar With Pinned Icons

I awoke the other day to find my computer at the log in screen. Apparently there was an update overnight and the computer restarted. When i tried to type in my password i found that the computer was frozen. I restarted it and when it came back the taskbar with my pinned programm icons was gone. I cannot figure out how to fix it. I tried a system restore to a few days before but that did not bring back the pinned icons. I came up with a temp fix but would rather have it working like it should. It is a fresh install of win7.

Taskbar Freeze At Startup

I had tried several times now, but the same happend. When i upgraded first time from xp to win 7 everything went ok until a few days later. Then started the taskbar to freeze, i could not click any items in the taskbar etc. Until i start the task manager by pressing #ctrl-alt-del" when i had dne that the task bar can be used again !I had tried to run 5-6 different virus scanners, i have avg installed, nothing from any of them, i thought in the beginning it could be a problem with the csrss.exe file as in the task-manger can i not see the properties, it not come up at all, also it not show who user ise the csrss.exe, my notebook does that !

I had re-installed the win 7 2 times again, and now it seems like the taskbar freeze at sratup, so when had had started the task-manager 1 time it works all ok ! That is quite strange !Any have a brilliant idea about what is wrong ! My computer is an acer stationary, 2 gb ram. Intel core duo e4500 2. 2 ghz. Windows / 32 bit.

Taskbar Buttons Not Combined

Windows 7 (64 bit) system, i have "always combine taskbar buttons" selected, but some programs show up more than once. For instance i have a program pinned to the taskbar but when i run it another button shows up for the program at the right end of the taskbar. I thought that shouldn't happen; certainly it doesn't happen for the windows apps i have on the taskbar (like ie or media player) - they only show up once whether the program is running or not. (I have a pic but didn't know how to post it; anyway i think it should be clear from description. )

Taskbar Freeze Lockup

I occasionally have an issue with my taskbar locking up in windows 7. Usually, it seems to be happening after gaming, or maybe from waking up from a sleep or hibernation state. When i wake windows, an mouse down to the taskbar, its frozen in the minimize/hidden state. You cant get it to show again, even if you hit the windows key on the keyboard. It also seems that the computer is non-operational. I cant click icons on the desktop, etc. The only resolution ive found is to power down the computer and restart. Im running an asau p6t deluxe with latest bios.

Taskbar Vertical Vs Horizontal

I have always been a fan of the bottom taskbar until windows 7 came out and now it is stationed on the left and i use small icons. I love to pin all of my program on here, and when i open any more, i have to scroll left to right to access them. I noticed if you dock the taskbar on the bottom, they automatically shrink in width and after about 30 of them are there, it creates a scrollbar for them, but this can be fixed by making the taskbar bigger. They will then wrap around. I tried doing this with the vertical alignment and it doesn't do anything except expand the width. Is there a way to fix this?

Taskbar Freezing After Startup

When windows starts the taskbar is frozen, and i cannot click on anything. All icons on the desktop are not affected and can be clicked. When i click ctrl+alt+del, then cancel it, it goes back to normal and works fine.

I was on windows vista when this was happening. Once a installed windows 7, with an otherwise empty computer, it is still happening. As there is nothing else on my pc now, i presume it is microsoft related, or hardware.

I have tested the memory and its fine. I have checked the temperatures and there fine. The bios is upto date. There are no virus's or malware present.

I have now ran out of ideas, and for the life of me cannot work it out

I have checked on google, and used many tech forums to no avail?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated?

Taskbar Icons Disappear

I have spent hours on virtually every help site for an answer to this problem. On various days (no pattern), when i start using computer (which is always on), all the icons from my taskbar have disappeared. I found one solution to the problem which is to start task manager, end explorer.exe process, then run explorer.exe again. This brings back all the icons. But this is a tedious thing to do.

And no one has given any explanation for why this happens and what explorer.exe has to do with it. This happens on my desktop which i upgraded to windows 7 from vista. My laptop, which came with windows 7 installed, does not have this problem. I have run several virus programs; no viruses found. Is this a windows 7 problem? A general microsoft problem? I keep up to date with updates. So what in the world is the problem? I'd really like an answer from someone who knows what (s)he is talking about.

Taskbar Is Overlapping Windows

I got a new hp computer, and it came with windows 7. At the beginning, i had no problems, and i was in love with windows 7. But recently, i realized that the start bar at the bottom of the page is actually overlapping the lower part of whatever window is maximized on the screen. I know for sure that this hasn't been happening before. It's becoming a problem, because for example, some websites (facebook) has a bar at the bottom of the screen, and when i use itunes, there are several buttons i cannot press!

Whenever i maximized windows before, they stopped at the taskbar, but now they go behind it :[
Does anyone know what is causing this problem?

Toolbars When Right Click On Taskbar

I just upgraded to windows 7-64 bit home premium from vista-64 bit. Now i notice that when i rt-click on the taskbar, and then select the toolbars option, i see the usual ones like the quick lunch, links, adress, desktop, but then i also see two that i have never seen before; they are itunes and tablet pc input panel.

I do have itunes application, but why does it appear as a toolbar option? Besides, when i click it, nothing happens. And, i really don't know anything about the tablet pc input - may be this later is a normal option that i had never paid any attention. I'd appreciate any help in resolving the itunes toolbar issue.

Taskbar Does Not Register When Mouse Out

My taskbar acts as if my cursor is always on it. Specifically, as if the cursor is always on one of the pinned items. Examples:if i move my mouse vertically up off an item that is not launched, it will show the two vertical bars framing it, and the glow (see firefox icon in screen-shot below). Similarly, if i move my cursor left from explorer (the leftmost pinned item) to the "start menu" orb, the explorer icon retains the vertical bars and glow. If i mouse up from an item that is launched, but not in focus, it retains the mouse-over/alert glow. If i move my cursor over a launched item, it instantly pops up with a preview, instead of waiting the 1-2 seconds it's supposed to.
