Hard Disk Cleanup

I did something dumb. I moved a program (not installed a program) to program files (not program files(x86)) of my local c hard disk. I realize it shouldn't be there and want it off. When i look at the instructions for disk clean up i get confused about what to choose and find that for such  a potentially ruinous application the instructions are too simplistic. I don't want to ruin anything and want to be sure i'm doing the right thing first. I have windows 7 pro.

The program does not show up at the control panel uninstall although the uninstall should be with the program. I can't find it anywhere. The program seems to work fine but i'd like to install it properly. Everything is working fine so i'd rather leave things as is if i would run a risk of any malfunctions. So if anyone out there can convince me on how to get rid of the offending program i'd bevery thankful.

Upgrade With New Hard Disk Drive

Vista 32 bit home premium (oem) to windows 7 64 bit home premium (upgrade) with new hard disk drive my current setup: i have a 2 year old hp laptop which came with windows vista home premium 32-bit pre-installed (oem). I have a partition on the hard disk that will allow me to 'restore' my system. I also received the 'restore' dvd from hp. I do not have the os re-installation dvd as this was oem (and hp doesn't give these out with their laptops) - i only have the 'restore' dvd / partition on the hdd.

I bought the windows 7 64-bit home premium (upgrade version) last summer when win 7 was released but have not had the time / courage to use it yet! (Laziness too!). Current problem: my laptop hdd is only 160gb and its already too full. This is what i want to do: i would like to replace my existing 160gb hdd with a new 500gb hdd and move from my existing vista 32-bit os to the new windows 7 64-bit os. If at all possible, i would like to do a clean install of windows 7 on
The new hdd instead of upgrading from vista to windows 7. Can this be done?

Hard Disk Space Unusable

I am using windows 7 32 bit edition on dell inspiron 1545. The specifications are
Intel core 2 duo
2 gb ram
250 gb hard disk

There is only one drive ( c drive ) in the partition. Only 232. 77 gb is allocated out of 250 gb. The problem is that 118 mb is unallocated. It was the oem's partition but i formatted it because i didnot knew what it was for. The left over 118 mb cannot be merged with 232. 77 gb. It only shows the option of creating new drive. On the other hand c drive does not show the option of extend volume. How can i use the 118 mb ? Do i have to format ?

Upgrade After Hard Disk Crash

Purchased upgrade directly from microsoft was one of the first to receive it. Installed it successfully last fall. Had a hard drive crash (seagate firmware problem) and my backup drive did not recover operating system (also seagate, 0 for 2). Had to reinstall vista using recovery disks. Now i can't load windows 7 upgrade, does not get past compatibility check.compatibility report on my desktop was empty. Downloaded and ran the windows 7 compatibility software. It said that i was good to go for the upgrade. Tried to reinstall windows 7, did not get past compatibility check.

Change Hard Disk After Windows 7 Was Activated

I have one hp desktop with vista 64, i upgraded it to win7 by the upgrade disk mailed to me. My hard disk is 500g seagate. Thanks for the 7200. 11 seagate bad reputation, i might need to change it, in case burned. My question is :

Can i re-do the upgrade win7 on a different hdd in the future and activate it, or i have to stick with the same hdd after the win7 activated. What about motherboard, can i change motherboard after win7 activated? Or i have to change my mb before the win7 activation. Or put it this way, after the win7 activated, can i still change all the hw parts, or some restriction applied?

Unable To Use 2 Hard Disk Through Usb Connection Simultaneously

Unable to use 2 external hard disk through usb connection simultaneously connected - with each disk of different capacity. When using 2 external hard drive one of 1 tb another of 2 tb on a single computer together - one of them gets recognized properly the other one does not get recognized. Inserting the same drives one at a time make them work fine. The drives are seagate freeagent drives.

The computer nearly hangs when the drive that is not properly recognized is accessed. If it does not hangs it may show situations such as drive needs to be formatted - or does not have any data etc. I am facing these on problems in two computers - one core 2 duo desktop pc using intel motherboard and running windows 2008 server (with all important updates applied) and another core 2 duo dell inspiron laptop intel chipset running windows vista home basic (with all important updates applied). I am sure it is driver issue - but the drivers are provided by microsoft not seagate here.

Error Message - Disk Is Corrupt Or Unreadable - External Hard Drive

Seagate freeagent go 500g external hard drive usable in xp professional works fine, but when i try to use it on windows 7. I get the error message "disk is corrupt or unreadable ". Installed windows professional x64 11/16/09. Everything works fine, all updated drivers for motherboard chipset. Tried everything, i can plug it into windows 7 pro x64 and get an immediate prompt to reformat, followed by disc is corrupt or unreadable. I can disconnect immediately and plug into a xp home computer and it works just fine.

Tried doing the security allow all users so its not locked from this new computer, didn't work, installing drivers hasn't worked, basically at a loss here, not enough room to back it up on the working computer, format on the new, and reinstall it on newly formatted hdd.

Win 7 Sees External Usb Hard Disk But Can't Access It

I'm using windows 7 home premium and had a power supply go out causing my computer to shut down in the middle of moving some large files to a fantom 1 tb external usb hard disk. I've got the system back up and running (after repairing the boot disk that had a corrupt boot sector) but when i plug in the external disk, windows won't allow me to access files. It does recognize the drive when i plug it in but if i go to properties and try to look at drive details or do disk maintenance, it gives an error message saying it can't access the drive. Also, the external drive is not partitioned.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the fat or partition table that got messed up when the power went out. I ran the easeus data recovery wizard-it was able to access the drive just fine and tells me the data is still there.

Any thoughts?

Cannot Install Win 7 On Sata Hard Disk - Intel 945 Chipset Motherboard

I troubleshoot more than one pc with dual boot system which run windows xp and windows 7. Which system are most latest- intel g31 chipset, 2gb ram, 500 gb sata hdd, 2. 5 ghz intel dual core etc.
But, now i face some installation problem with my pc. Yesterday i run my pc smoothly with windows 7 with 2 ghz pentium 4, 1 gb ram, 80 gb pata hdd, 945 chipset motherboard etc. I need more storage area, so i purchase a hitachi 500 gb sata hdd. My motherboard has one pata connector and two sata connector. I use the pata connector to attach my hdd and dvd. They worked fine.

But, when i attach my new 500 gb sata hdd to sata connector and remove the 80 gb pata hdd. Only dvd attach with pata connector. I insert my windows 7 installtion dvd to the drive and restart my pc and go to bios. This is amibios. I find bios recognize the sata hdd as primary master and dvd to secondary slave drive. I also find sata drive mark in ide form. (Their also raid and ahci also available. ) I save the configuration and reboot. After reboot, when pc want to start from dvd, i press the space key from keyboard and the setup start to copy installation file in 2 stage and i find it complete the copy process. And pc going to start up, but, but a green color bar running through a tube for about 2 hours. Nothing happen. Read more at the forum.

Moving Data From 1st Disk To 2nd Disk

I installed my w7 on a single disk pc then i added a second disk for data. I want to have all my data (documents, photos, music, etc. ) In this second disk. In xp, when i did so, i copy my documents from "documents and settings" folder to the new location (d:/) and i was done. Now in w7 i open the "user" folder i found that files are not on a single folder but that there are several document folders (images, documents, etc. ) And settings folders (favorites, etc. ). May i copy all the user folder to the new location or i must leave there some of them in c:/system/users? In xp, when i move my documents to d:, every thing was redirected there (default1 saving folder, default download folder, defautl music folder, etc. ) In w7, would happen the same? The link on the desktop will redirect me to the location or may continue pointing the old one.

Disk Read Error And Recovery Disk Not Working

I have a toshiba satellite c650 that has recently come up with a disk read error. I want to access the command prompt to try some potential solutions that i have read about on the internet. I have made a windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop which also has windows 7 installed. When i use the recovery disk and it has loaded the files etc it just brings up a black screen and the cursor. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? I tried booting my acer laptop from the recovery disk and it worked fine. Also does anyone have any suggestions as to why i am getting the 'disk read error - hit ctrl, alt and delete to restart' message?

Error - Logonui Exe No Disk - Outlook Exe No Disk

I have windows 7 professional running 64 bit. A very annoying error pops up every five minutes or so. The message varies and can read "logonui exe no disk" or "outlook exe no disk" or "your favorite app. - No disk" depending on what i am running at the time. I have looked at many forums and can see that this error occurred in previous windows flavors. Some answers point to malware or infected file, others seem to think it's a corrupt install file. I have a fresh install of win 7. My previous os being xp.

I have reinstalled win7 and tried repair functions. No luck so far.

3) running the recovery disks to re-install my copy of windows 7 pro or am i missing something?

Not Enough Disk Space

I installed windows 7 on my dell pc. The os is in d: drive. When i run windows easy transfer to retrieve my old files i get an error saying there is not enough disk space. Yet i have 198 gb free, it's supposed to take only about 116 gb. Now according to the easy transfer program it also wants to transfer some information to drive c:, though i didn't run the transfer program on drive c:, only on drive d: dell uses the c: drive with a only a small partition for some diagnostic programs. According to the transfer program, it wants to transfer about 83 megabytes of data, and theres only about 11 mb of free space left.

Am i going to have to get a partition program to make it a larger partition, or what? Also, when i run the transfer program and go to advanced options where it shows the drive mappings, it shows the drive mappings as c: -> c:, d: -> d:, and maxtor (where i had the easy transfer program store my files -> maxtor. I assume i need to change the maxtor to maxtor -> d:, is this correct?

Recovery Disk Gone

In the course of trying to resolve a problem with a "low disk space" error message that i have been getting i apparently my entire recovery drive (d:), about 8g.

I went to the "my computer" icon and right clicked and selected "manage", found the "disk management" section, selected my "hp-recovery (d:)", right clicked "format", changed from "fat32" to "ftns". The drive formatted and showed up empty. Then the directions i was following told me to right click on the new formatted drive and click "delete volume". It then talked about following some other steps about renaming the drive but mine has completely vanished.

So in conclusion, i'm an idiot. I deleted a recovery drive and didn't even fix the problem i set out to fix. Please if anyone can help i would be very grateful.

Error - There Is No Disk In Drive

I am getting this error code any time i turn on my hp photosmart, and also when i close the tray on my cddvd burner. I am running an acer aspire 5920. I did a clean install of windows 7 over my vista home premium. I'm pretty sure that i still am considered a novice user, comparatively speaking.

No Disk In The Drive Message

I use quickbooks and backup to their server. I can do so just fine with no problem until i insert a memory stick into the usb drive. The next time i try to backup to quickbooks server i get the message, there is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drivedeviceharddisk2dr2. I hit return several times and then the backup will begin.

I'm not even trying to back up onto the memory stick. If i reboot the computer then i don't get the message until the next time i insert a memory stick. Any suggestions? I have called quickbooks and they don't help because after i reboot i am successful so they say it is a computer issue. I called zt systems tech support and they are no help.

Installing New Disk Drive

My problem is more involved than the title suggests. Let me explain.

When i upgraded from vista to windows 7 i attempted a files in place upgrade. That upgrade failed and got itself into a continuous loop attempting to back out of the upgrade. I have two drives, the main boot drive and a second 1 terabyte drive. I should have just reloaded windows clean on the main boot drive, but i didn't. I loaded windows on my terabyte drive, hoping that i would be able to save my data on the boot drive, which i was never able to do. I have been running fine that way, but. Now i want to replace that boot drive with a new larger drive. My question is:

Where is the registry stored. Is it on my boot drive or is it on my terabyte drive that i loaded windows onto. If i remove my old boot drive and install a new drive, will i still have a usable system.

My old drive boots now as drive d:. My terabyte drive boots as c:. It is actually configured as a dual boot system now, but i never boot up the old system because it is still in the infinite loop trying to back out of the upgrade.

Disk And Memory Management

The computer is emachines t3612. Recently upgraded to windows 7 (32). Deleted the recovery drive (d:) as it was representative of the original windows vista home basic that was upgraded to vista home premium. Tried to be a "whiz" and use the memory on c: - i failed and a friend suggested moving the memory to the user file. I did. When the cd/dvd drive did not respond as d: i changed it back to e: but it still will not work (except for a music cd. Is there anyone out there that can help me straighten this mess out?

The cd/dvdw driver is tsstcorpcd/dvdw ts-h652d ata device. I contacted emachines who will not assist because the machine is out of warranty (unless i pay them a small fortune) and tsst doesn't appear to have this model driver any longer, but someone asserted it is the same as samsung sh-5182d that i am to fearful to try. I have considered returning to the upgrade disc to do a clean installation, but it took so long to get the programs and the computer to a really good working state that i do not want to start from scratch again.

I need specific instructions on how (or if) i can move all the available memory to c: and make d: the cd/dvdw drive.

Win 7 Boot Disk

I will be getting an acer laptop next week with windows 7 home premium 64-bit pre-installed on it. I know that acer does not provide disks with their computers for the programs. I want to be able to boot my windows 7 from a disk should it become needed.

How do i create or get a boot disk for windows 7 once i have recieved my computer?

On another note i have been reading several answered questions to find the answer and have come across discussions about creating back up images of the drive. I planned on doing this right out of the box and have been researching programs for this purpose. They didn't mention a program. Does windows 7 let me do this without another program or are they just not saying that they are using another program?

Cannot Run Check Disk

I can't check my system partition. I can't run some  windows functions: calculator, paint, screen saver, maybe it's can't find the file to run (it's icon become gray, screen saver: can't find rundll32.exe). But it's still in my hard disk and can run if i find it out and click. I also can't run firewall because it's dependence services can't start.

So i think partition is error and checked it. On windows, not successful to run "chkdsk" with command prompt. And after restart it's can't check with the note about need to install some software to check. I've just uninstall some soft wares, include "microsoft visual c+ 2005 redistribution" (there are microsoft visual c+ 2005, 2008. I think it isn't important).

Check Disk Problems

Bought my hp dv7 in nov & have had 3 computer crashes. I reboot and get a screen that says 'need to do disk check on c & type of file is ntfs'. Starts countdown & freezes. Have had it back where i bought it and all they can do is a complete sys restore. This weekend i got a message center msg saying that a sys scan/sys maint was scheduled so i clicked on it. Got msg: attempt repairs of disk volume errors. Reboot to repair problems such as bad sectors etc. Clicked next & got "issues found disk volume errors detected & a pop-up asking if i wanted to do sys restore.

Said yes & it said i couldn't because local c had errors & windows detected file sys corruption on c so had to do check disk. I scheduled a check disk & when i rebooted it actually did the count down & it actually completed the whole process & found no issues. Has rebooted without incident so far. In doing some research today i learned this is a windows 7 issue. I'm not computer literate so am afraid to do any of the suggested things without knowing which i should try.

One suggestion said it might prompt to insert the win 7 disk but i don't have a disk as the laptop came pre-loaded. All i have are the sys recovery disks i was prompted to create on the first boot up.

Read Disk Error

I was wondering if you'd be kind enough to help me? I followed this tutorial after creating a duel boot with windows xp http://blogs. Techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?P=1751 and for some reason i get the read disk error. No matter what i try, nothing seems to work following all the bcd commands, fixmbr and fixboot.

All i want to do is delete my xp partition and start using 7 to it's full on the hdd. I'm sure it's something really simple, but i can't for the life of me figure it out?

Windows Cannot Be Installed To This Disk

"windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's bios menu. ". I encountered this error after somehow magically overcoming the cd/dvd drive device driver error that's killing like half of the microsoft windows community, i swear. I'm trying to install win7 onto a 80gb hdd, after using the raid tool featured on my sata controller to format it to clear the way for this install.
Thoughts? Ideas?

Disk Read Error

Well i started a couple of days ago at first when i booted up my computer it came up saying something was preventing it from starting and it could be caused by a hardware change or installed software and it asked me to put in the repair disc. So i did this it managed to fix it for a while then randomly it started again so i repeated what i did last time with out any success so i switched off the computer and tried again same kept happening for about 5 restarts so i gave up and left it. Then the next it works again but when i restart my computer to make sure i get this disk read error with it saying ctrl-alt-dlt to restart so i did this and over and over again it kept coming up.

But then i got the error that i mentioned at the start and so i repeated the process no success but then randomly it works again. This problem keeps on occurring randomly and going away randomly and it is unbelievably annoying as some times it can take minutes to fix sometimes hours. So is there any fix to this problem or is a reinstall of windows 7 the only option.
