Error Code 1402 - Corrupt Registry

Office installation gives me an 1402 error code - cannot open the registry key. Office appears in programs and features but attempts to uninstall give me a message that installation has been corrupted . Run setup, which brings me back to the installation 1402 error. There are many other symptoms e.g. , Attempts at system restore fail to all prior restore points -all pointing to a corrupted registry. I have run ccleaner but nothing has changed. How do i recover from a corrupted registry?

Driver Is Missing Or Corrupt Error Code 39

I installed my external disk drive to my new mini hp laptop, i installed a number of programs. I later performed a system restore to factory settings due to multiple, alike programs that were not necessary. I then set up my computer for a second time. This time when i was installing my software for my printer, which worked previously and i performed printing tasks, something happened and i have have no idea what. My disk device will no longer work. It tries to install, but fails.

The usb mass storage device works, but not the usb 2. 0 dvd-rom. I even plugged it to my desktop to try it there, and it worked the first time, now when i try it nothing happens, the computer doesn't even recognize it. I keep getting prompted to buy driver cure and driver fixers but i don't want to pay 30 - 50 dollars when i already paid for the device.

Error 1402

I am attempting to install a program called electronic service control. Mid-way through the installation i get an error message: "error 1402.could not open key: unknowncomponents1b1d70235e082d119bd50006794ced425ecd9e2156e74d11ea1d000433099fe6. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact you support personnel. "

I've pulled up the key in the registry to ensure i had proper permissions. I also added everyone to the permissions list with full control on 1b1d70235. When attempting to access permissions for 5ecd9e21. I get the following message:

"5ecd9e2156e74d11ea1d000433099fe6 cannot be opened. An error is preventing this key from being opened. Details: access is denied. "

Going back into 1b1d70235 and attempting to set inheritable child permissions resulted in the following: "registry editor could not set security in the key currently selected, or some of its subkeys. "

I would like to delete and rewrite the keys. Is this practical, and where can i obtain additional info to learn how to do it properly? Is there a better way? I have attempted to uninstall a prior installation with windows install clean up, and used a registry cleaner with no luck.

Error 1402 When Installing Adobe Acrobat

Adobe acrobat 8 stopped working when i upgraded to windows 7. I was unable to either repair the program in place or remove it. At the suggestion of adobe, i used windows install clean-up to remove the remnants of acrobat 8 and attempted to install acrobat 9. Now i get a failure with an error 1402 and the path to the error key is unknown components and a lot of hex characters which don't offer me a clue as to where to find a bad record in the registry. At the further recommendation of adobe, i removed all of their products from my system. I still get an "unable to write" to a key that only exists in an "unknown" location. I need to work with pdf files and i am stuck.

Error 1402 Problem With Microsoft Office

I had a copy of office 2007 installed that stopped working properly. I tried to uninstall it, but crashed half way through. Now it says i don't have permission to delete the files, and when i try to reinstall it says error 1402 can't write to the registry. I have used the manual and automated attempts to fix security settings, have removed microsoft office from the installer with installer clean up, and done a clean boot to try and get this problem sorted.

Nothing works, it keeps saying i don't have permission. I have the exact same problem with adobe acrobat, it will not let me install and gives the same error message. The adobe fix page just says uninstall all versions and reinstall, but that does not help. I have done multiple spyware scans and virus scans, and am clean.

Code 39 - Corrupt Driver Dvd-ram

I recently was trying to get a camcorder to work with my new win 7 pc. The cam device allows a web cam configuration via usb but a video capture driver must be installed. This driver would not install on win 7. I tried installing the device in xp sp3 mode by using the compatibility option in the properties of the .exe file while the file was on the cd. This still gave the error.

The capture will not work. Now though my dvd drive will not work either. I tried disabling it, unistalling it and each time the driver installs the same way and gives the code 39 error. I also connected a usb dvd drive and it show the very same error. The dvd drives show a yellow triangle in device manager now and neither show in my computer. I have tried reboot with out the device then boot again with a drive (either) and it always has code 39. What can i do now?I have a ghost image but i would rather find a solution incase it happens again.

Error 1335 - File Corrupt

I recently installed windows 7 on my new custom built machine about a week ago. I came across a problem when i tried to install a game [crysis] the error occurred when the installation began to copy the files and install the game. This particular game is using . Cab files to install the software. I receive an error at the beginning of the installation, "error 1335 - file . Is corrupt etc. The file is there and working. I tried to install other software such as photoshop and various other games. Fter searching the net i believe the problem is directed at the windows installer.

Another solution i have found is that it could be down to the ram. I ran a memory diagnostic which did find a problem. I wish to know whether there is an actual solution to fix the problem or if i will have to buy another ram. Methods i have tried;

1. Using msiexec /unregister and a couple other commands but am unsure if they did anything. 2. Tried to install the software off the hard drive 3. Ran a registry cleaner, disk clean up and defrag. They are the methods i can remember off the top of my head. Ny guidance or possible fixes would be greatly appreciated.

Random Corrupt Login Error

Occasionally and more frequently, login will not work properly. I am a genuine 64-bit windows 7 user, and i love the system, but unfortunately i have been running into a recurring problem. I'm sorry that this does not have any specific error messages (i didn't think ahead, and it's not happening now), but these are the symptoms:

- On boot, i get to the login screen just fine, i enter my credentials.

- It says welcome, and then something like "loading your desktop".

- It says something about a corrupted login, then puts me into either:

- A) some weird half-breed of windows 95 and 7, where icons still resemble windows 7, but the taskbar and explorers are grey

- B) this last time, i was logged into a temporary account

- Edit: when i shut down, there is some weird audio feedback

- From then on, if try to log in, an error message about login or profile data not found.

- I usually just restore to an earlier image, and it will work fine.

Unfortunately, this has become more frequent, and i'm wondering what is the culprit. If it is impossible to grasp the situation without further information, i will try to get it. Past searches suggested it was something about the registry.

Error Codes & Corrupt Files

I am having problems with installing updates and software onto my laptop: -

Windows update, i get error code 80200053, microsoft security essentials updates, i get error code 0x80240022 (this is a new install but haven't been able to run as unable to update with any definitions) windows live messenger and mail installation, i get error code hr:0x8007000d

I restored my laptop to factory default but the problem hasn't been fixed. I am still having the same problems but also, i am unable to download programs like java or avg (before i tried mse), i get messages either relating to corrupt files or unknown publishers/certificates. I have been having these problems for over a week now, in fact both my laptop and my partners desktop are having the same problems.

Having spent hours searching these forums, i found another user who appears to be having the same problems as me and followed the solution provided i.e. Disk cleanup; sfc.exe and then checkdisk but the problems haven't been resolved. The log file from the sfc.exe suggested that some corrupted files couldn't be repaired and i have looked at the results but to be honest i haven't got a clue what to do about this. The checkdisk result came back clean though.

We have managed to obtain a copy of avg from a cd and run a full scan on both the laptop and desktop and no virus' were detected. The only items listed were tracking cookies which have been deleted or repaired and 2 items on my laptop advising broken digital certificates.

Can you please help me with this, i don't know what else to do to fix this problem?

Editing Registry Administrator Rights

I have a java program which needs to edit registry at hkey_current_user. It is able to execute regedit when run from a standard user account but when i run the very same program from an account having administrative privileges, i get the error saying the "regedit needs elevated privileges".

This is mind boggling as a standard user is able to run regedit without a prompt where as an administrator needs elevated permissions ?

Is there any way i can edit hkey_current_user registry values from an account having administrator privilages without having to "elevate" the privileges of this account.

Cannot Access Registry Or .exe Files

Can't access registry or .exe fies so i got a new computer, it has windows  and runs on a 64-bit operating system. I had downloaded and played a game on my other computer, and the client worked just fine. On this computer, i downloaded the same client, from the exact same site, and for some reason i couldn't open, drag, or access the .exe file from my downloads. So i looked into it and over time realized that some .exe files would open while others wouldn't. I went in the registry and changed the value of both options in the exe folder without realizing that i should've just edited the default.

So to get to the point, i can't access any .exe files, on top of having absolutely no access to the registry. I can manage to et on the internet directly, but no programs or downloads will open, or can't access the registry ether. I've tried every trick in the book, booting in safe mode with command prompts, command prompts in general, and none of them seem to work. So without further adue, i'm screwed. Any help or suggestions?Oh and i've managed to have every single .exe file try and start with regedit, reading that if you tried to open regedit with itself it would work. Absolutely not. And now i'm in an even deeper rut. Nd changing it to regedit.com doesn't work either.

Win2k Server Registry Hive

Was only able to select criteria for my problem as win2k server was not listed in the list. Problem is, registry hive is increasing. Able to see size difference via command prompt by using the dureg -a command. But current registry size at system properties>performance option does change or reflected with current reg size after server reboot. How do i reduce the reg size at system properties.

Install Disc Corrupt

I recently purchased an hp pavilion elite. It came with windows 7 home premium 64-bit. I wanted to scrap all the random stuff that hp puts on their computers, and i have a copy of windows 7 professional 64-bit anyways that i wanted to install.

So i booted from the disk, did a clean install, formatted the hd and hit continue like i have to done with clean installs with this same disc successfully 2 other times. It moved to the next screen, copied all the files to 100%, and "moved on to expanding windows files". Then it just sat at 0% for about 15 minutes, until giving me this error:

"Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart installation. Error code:0x80070017"

Does this mean there is something wrong with this disk? I was thinking of just going out and buying a new copy of windows 7, but i wanted to know that there wasn't another option.

Corrupt .net Framework Versions

I am experiencing strange program behavior which i suspect may be related to corrupted versions of .net framework. All versions of .net framework have at one time or another come onto my computer via windows update. 3. 5 appeared to install correctly, but i have aberrant program behavior, the rough history of which is as follows:

  - Memeo backup stopped functioning.
  - Memeo engineer diagnosed this problem as related to a corrupt .net framework 2. 0.
  - He used a utility to remove 2. 0, it was then reinstalled.
  - This initially appeared to solve the problem, but then other programs began failing. Examples are: adobe reader (now reinstalled via firefox); some aspect of internet explorer which is needed on the adobe reader download page; my photo transfer package nikon transfer (now mysteriously working again); general slow performance; my e-mail program eudora - intermittent failings.

  - Ms windows update helpdesk advised me to uninstall (via utility) 3. 5 and then reinstall it. I did this, but the only noticeable result is that memeo backup is now failing again.

  - I just ran windows update again, it downloaded and installed another security update, no error messages generated.

I am now asking  if the following course of action seems reasonable:

1) uninstall memeo backup (which is currently just generating a "failed to run" message at startup)
2) use the utility which you sent me to uninstall all versions of .net framework.

3) visit windows update to see if that will reinstall all versions of .net framework in the correct order.
4) reinstall memeo backup

But before i do this, i would like to know.

A) would it be better to just try uninstalling 2. 0 3. 0 and 3. 5 first?

B) the memeo engineer was able to tell me that 2. 0 was corrupted by asking these questions about the registry:

3. Please check a registry key for me, please do not modify or delete any keys in the registry. To access the registry, please see the instructions below:

1. Click on start.
2  click on run (for vista it's the start search box).
3. Type regedit and press enter on your keyboard.
4. Navigate to hkey_local_machinesoftware.

5. Let me know if there is a memeo key in the software folder and if you can access the contents of the memeo folder. From my reply to that he was able to diagnose the problem. Is there any similar way that one can diagnose whether or not other versions of .net frameworks are corrupted?

.net Framework 3.5 Corrupt Software

Microsoft updates done by me manually. "These updates failed to install:  update to .net framework 3. 5 service pack 1 for the .net framework assistant 1. 0 x86 (kb963707)" reading all the .net complaints on this forum gives me one gigantic headache. First of all, these .net frameworks seem to be a necessity in order to view/surf the web. I never did anything to alter my .net frame work, and actually didn't even know it existed until one day, i started getting errors along with my ms automatic updates. Would this not indicate that ms has created software that has a flaw in it?  Seeing as how i never did a thing in the world to alter this function in my pc.

Disgusted that the expectation is that we consumers need to clean up ms' corrupted software. I think a more appropriate expectation would be that ms needs to fix their own corrupted software, and while your at it, have an auto-update tool that fixes it for us at the same time security updates are downloaded. I don't have the time or patience to fix problems like this that i had no part in creating. If you have an ms representative in my community, i would like them to come out and see my pc and fix this for me.

I have continually tried to use all of the steps advised, to no avail. They all fail. Something needs to be done about this, otherwise this is the equivalent of fringing on being reported to the bbb in regards to offering a reasonable solution to a problem that exists with ms products not delivering the intended service to the consumer. Not only is the software corrupt, but it uses a ton of memory and has degraded the functions of everyday use of my pc.

Unable To Download File Is Corrupt

I am having problems downloading any kind of update for my laptop. The updates i am talking about are for windows, norton, etc. I am not a crazy downloader. It will start the update and then a message will pop up saying the update was unable to be completed because files are corrupt. The techs at norton were finally able to get the updates to take but they  had to have publisher had to show up as unknown. In addition to that from time to time the webpages will obscure and all mixed up. Any clue on how to fix this?I hope this makes sense, my husband is the one that handles all the computer issues and he is deployed so i am doing my best.

Temporary Corrupt Toolbars And Icons

I recently upgraded from vista to windows 7. Lately when i launch an office product 2007 (outlook, excel) the toolbars become corrupt. If i mouse over the toolbar it clears up. When i close down the applications and go  back to my desktop, sometimes the icons on the desktop will corrupt. If i right click on the desktop and choose refresh, the icons clear up again. This issue does not occur when using ie or when i am viewing an actual digital picture. The issue only occurs in the toolbars. Is there a repair function or an faq that addresses this nuisance issue?
