Open Window Not Maximizing On Desktop

I'm having a windows 7 problem that when i have a few open windows for different programs minimized on the taskbar and i try to maximize them again, they won't maximize. Sometimes they appear to maximize off the right side of the desktop, and sometimes they won't maximize at all. I have to close the program down and then re-open it. When it happens in internet explorer i can get it maximized again if i right click on the taskbar icon and select open new tab. Can anyone tell me what i'm
Doing wrong?

Cannot Open A New Window

I have a problem when i am online on windows 7. When i am on a website and click a link that requires a new window to be opened nothing happens. No new window. Nothing. This is a problem when i am doing my online banking because i can't open the page to view bill pay or my credit card info. This happens on any link that requires a new window to be opened. Pop-up blockers are off and i've tried right clicking and selecting "open in new tab".

When using some links i'd like to open the link in a new window using the shift key or right clicking and selecting "open new window". However, this feature is not always available. For example, when right clicking on some links, i get other options but not "open new window". So i hold down the shift key and it does not open the link in a new window. The right clicking "new window" option and shift key, is available on some links but not all. I have windows 7 ie 8

How To Open Folders In The Same Window ?

I set the folder options to open the folder in the same window, however, when i double click any folder to open, it opens in its own window, but i can open it in the same window but i have to right click on each folder and select "open" to open it in the same window. I want to open folders normally in the same window without always clicking right click and select "open".

Cannot Click Taskbar In An Open Window

My taskbar is un-clickable, i had to press ctrl alt del, so i can click the start menu and application that is pinned on the taskbar. But i can click the desktop icons, but when i open it (ex. If i double click my computer) i cant also click anything even the min, max and close buttons.

I already scan for worms, spyware and virus and it detects nothing. I already check the "regedit" and no explorer.exe and iexplore.exe sub-folders are in the folder of image file execution option
I already do the sfc /scannow and the result is no error found.

Before, a message sometimes pops up saying that explorer.exe has stop from running then it restarts but still i can able to open and click the applications in the desktop and taskbar then after a week or 2, another message is popping up pwdbnk.exe is stop from running(an application for the biometric finger print).

Hard Drive, Devices Window Takes Long Time To Open

When i open the "computer" window, to see the hard drive, devices, etc. It's taking five minutes for it to load. Why is it taking so long when the drives and devices should just pop up? Click on the start icon, move over to my computer, then wait forever for it to load.

It doesn't make sense why, this system is analyzing the content for so long when i just bought tis computer. I have a mac, and i know this is different. But my dell laptop, and my wife's old computer doesn't nearly take this long. If i right click over computer, open in new window appears, and it acts as it always has. Why the unnecessary difference between the two. It should be fixed.microsoft shouldn't let this go on for long.

Issue With Maximizing

Ok so i've been using win 7 ultimate since it's release without any issues. Then out of nowhere my windows no longer maximize to the correct size. When i hit the maximize button there is about 1/5th of the desktop still viewable on the right hand side. I can click maximize or drag the window to the top of the screen and get the same result. Also when dragging a window to the right to have it snap to the side the mouse stops at the same point as the maximized windows and sizes as if that is the edge of the screen. I cannot drag desktop icons to this part of the screen either.

When i try they simple pop back to the other side of this "edge. " However my taskbar still extends the full length of the screen and i can manually size the windows to have them fill the whole screen, and full-screen games still take up the whole screen. I thought the problem might have been my gpu so i replaced and upgraded to a more current card that has more support for win 7 but that didn't work either.

Here are some pics to show you what is going on: the first one is a maximized window. The 2nd one is a window snapping to the right side of the screen. You can see the circle nova where the mouse should be (not captured by print screen). Pic 1 & pic 2

Open Folders Do Not Show On Desktop

I got my new computer, with windows 7 already installed, two weeks ago. My problem is that suddenly i can no longer access the contents of any folders. If i double click on the "computer" folder or the "c-drive" folder, or anything else, i see nothing; no open folder appears on the screen.

However, if i look in the task manager, the folder that i attempted to open is shown as "running". But the folder does not show on the screen. So it seems that windows explorer is running but not operating properly. This problem only occurs under my user log-in (which is an administrator user). There are 4 other "standard" users on the computer and the problem does not happen on their desktops.

The last thing that i did before this problem started to occur was to go into start->games and i briefly tried one of the "free trial" games. Of course, i don't know for sure that the game is what has caused the problem but it was the last thing that i did before i noticed the problem. Previously, folders opened normally.

Any suggestions?

Desktop Freeze When Programs Work Behind Desktop

Windows 7 desktop freeze when all other programs work behind desktop. When using any program, the desktop freezes so no icon can be selected/program opened. The only way to clear the freeze is to shut down. If however one chooses to use a program behind the desktop - it works fine. Anyone ideas how to prevent shutting down as the solution? I haven't heard anything like this on any other platform. At 1st, i thought it was a wireless freeze matter.

Window Resizes

I'm having a problem with windows resizing my browser about 80% of the time i click anywhere on a website or on the browser. To clarify, when i say resize, the browser will but in full screen and when i click on a new tab, link, button, ect it goes to the minimum size i use google chrome, and at first i thought i may be just an issue with chrome, so i downloaded firefox only to immediately discover this was not the case. I would assume is has to do with the new feature where you can drag windows and it automatically resizes them to half the screen but i am unsure of what to do to prevent this from happening. If anyone can help that would be great.

Vanishing Window

I have been using windows 7 for two weeks now. Everything was going well until two days ago. When i click to activate the control panel screen, the control panel icon is placed on the taskbar. The window is not displayed. When i click on the icon on the taskbar, the window zips across the screen and disappears beyond the right side of the screen. If i click the taskbar icon again, the window flashes from beyond the right side of the screen and disappears on the task bar.

Every once in awhile, clicking on the control panel icon produces normal result (window shows up on desktop) but then the problem reappears again. I really would like to use the control panel (you know, backup files, change properties, etc. Etc. ), But i can't access it.

Cannot Expand Window Across Monitors

I process large spreadsheets and have configured my system with 4 monitors. Under xp and vista, i could expand my spreadsheets across all monitors so i could view very large records without having to scroll left or right. But with windows 7, everytime i expand across screen boundaries the window resizes to fit into only one of my monitors. (Note: this happens with all windows, not just excel. )I've disabled aerosnap under the ease of use features for mouse, keyboard and tasks, but it did not solve this problem. So my question:  how do i configure windows 7 to allow me to expand across screen boundaries?

Taskbar Window Switching

Under win7 if i'm running excel with say 5 different workbooks active they're all shown on the task bar as one excel icon. Then when i click that it shows the 5 active workbooks and asks me to select one to activate.

Is there some way to tell win7 that when i click on the excel icon i just want the most recently active version immediately activated? Or to display separate icons rather than all stacked up as one?

This isn't just an excel issue, but many other programs where there are multiple instances or data sets open. I just want to go to the most recently used one which is correct 95% of the time. Can i eliminate the extra step?

Window Size Problems

I have the new acer time-line 14" pc installed with windows 7. Recently, the windows size has changed, and i don't know how to fix it! The problem is that the window (to internet-sites, or any other program), are much bigger than before. And is -in a way- partially hidden by the start-line.
To explain better, here's a photo:

http://i46. Tinypic.com/ipuus9.jpg

So you see, at facebook (as an example), is the line of applications, chat and notifications quite hidden. It's not the start-line's fault. Nothing wrong about that. Can anyone help me fix this?

Two Browsers Opening In One Window

When opening internet explorer, one window comes up, but it always has two tabs - i.e. Two browsers - each with my default home page, google. Neither browser goes anywhere weird nor acts oddly, they just sit there waiting for me to use them. Typically, to open a browser, i use a quick launch icon on my toolbar or a dedicated button on my keyboard. I have also tried using the ie icon on my desktop and have tried going to start>programs>internet explorer. Regardless of which method i use, i always get a window with two tabs.

I'm not sure when this started, but i think it was after my last windows update. Interestingly, i have a shortcut icon on my desktop for speedtest.net and when i click on it, i get one window only with no extra tab! Ditto with other website shortcuts on my desktop. This is not a huge problem, but a bit annoying as i must now close an extra browser.

Truncated Window In All Apps

Setting up a new system with windows 7, all displays on the monitor are chopped off, i.e. , And 8 1/2 by 11 object appears more like 8 x 10. Everything worked fin on my old windows 7 system. Only major difference is a new video card. Truncated edges occurs in all applications (word, excel, ie, email, etc. ) And on the desktop. I cannot see the start circle, and the list of items on the bottom of my desktop are half hidden. I have tried monitor settings, checked screen settings, screen resolutions, text size, etc. Nothing is helping. Any ideas?

Window Flies Off Screen To Right

I know something like this has been posted but the answer doesn't seem to work for me so i'm trying again. I have a window open for example the internet. When i click on the icon on the bottom of the screen all i see is a little box shooting off the screen to the right and when i click it back on again it comes flying back to the icon. Nothing i have done seems to bring it back open on the screen. I have run my mouse over to the right and clicked and grabbed and pulled but nothing comes back on my main screen. I've shut down the program and reopened it still does the same thing, i've rebooted my computer. I've looked all over for answers and no one seems to be able to help me. Maybe one of you can give me some advice. It's a very frustrating situation.

Game Information In Games Window

The games window is a pretty nice feature of vista. And since service patch 2 my customizations are no longer being 'forgotten' which has resulted with me actually using the games window.

A nice thing about the games window is how it automatically organizes and groups games based on genre. For example, the game oblivion gets nicely tucked away in the 'role-playing' category. Warcraft 3 finds its way into the 'strategy' category. Windows does this automatically. It's helpful.

However, i can't find any way to change how vista organizes these games in the event i feel vista hasn't categorized a game properly. For example, quake 3 sits in the category called 'unspecified. ' i assume that perhaps since this is an older game vista can't find information about it to properly categorize it. Is there a way that i can categorize it? I've tried drag and dropping the icon for quake 3 to the 'action' category but that doesn't work.

A more recent title that doesn't properly categorize itself is a role-playing game called drakensang. Currently drakensang sits in the 'unspecified' category. I'd like to re-categorize this as well but i can't seem to find a way to do it.

Taskbar / Window Color Problem

For some reason, my windows 7 taskbar color (and window color) is light blue when it's not supposed to be. I've changed my themes a couple of times, but the color is still light blue, and not changing. I've opened up the "window color" tab, but it shows me stuff like: "to turn on windows aero, select a windows theme. " I've never had this experience before, because whenever i opened the window color tab, it would show me colors, and a transparency slider, and stuff like that.

Re Enable Taskbar And Window Transparency

I'm running windows 7 home premium on a brand new asus ul50a series notebook. This morning i got an "important" microsoft update message, and so i updated my laptop, rebooted, and noticed that my taskbar and window borders were no longer transparent. Before the update everything worked fine, but now this does not work. Everything, so far, works excellent except the transparency issue. I would like to find out how to fix this problem without having to do a system restore since i've already put a lot of important files onto my new laptop. Here are some screenshots of my not-correctly-working windows 7 personalize settings:

Anyone know how to fix this, so i can pick my taskbar color and opacity settings?

Window Size Control Issue

My flat screen tv which i also use as a computer monitor via hdmi runs slightly under-scanned and for various reasons i don't want to change that. This means that i don't have visual access to the top rhs and bottom rhs of maximized windows. This makes it difficult to reduce the size of maximized screens. I have had a good look through the help and haven't been able to find a fix.

I thought i was close when i found "windows logo key +shift+up arrow" and discovered that the undocumented "windows logo key + shift + down arrow" also worked . But if the window was maximized then "windows logo key + shift + down arrow" directly minimized the window and didn't reduce the size. Lso i find that if i right click at the top of a window i get a menu that includes a 'size' option but it doesn't seem to work on my stock standard win 7 x64 i5-661 computer using the intel on chip video (gigabyte h57 matx motherboard).

I get a 'move' icon but it doesn't seem to do anything. Everything else, including aero, seems to work. I haven't been able to find any help on this command. By the way it's difficult trying to search help about windows in windows. Is there any easy way to use the keyboard to reduce the size of, but not minimize, a window please? If not are there any other workarounds that spring to mind?

Cannot Change Size Of Window Or Drag It

Works for one user but not another (both administrators): on a new dell studio 15 running factory-loaded windows 7, the function to change the size of a non-maximized window, or to move it around the screen, by dragging the top or the arrows that appear when placing the cursor at the edge of the window, works for one user but not another. I can't see any difference in the control panel settings under "mouse. " Simply can't figure this out!

Minimized Window Icons Shift Around

I don't know if this is a windows 7 problem or maybe an ie8 thing, i didn't have this problem with xp3 or ie7. When i minimize 2 or more windows they appear on my taskbar correctly. But when i have one of them open and am working on that page only, the 2 or more minimized windows in the taskbar keep shifting around with each other. The one on the left is moved to the right or vice versa even though i haven't touched either of them.

It is a most irritating problem, both in the distraction of seeing these continually shift at the bottom of the screen, and also when i want to open one of the minimized windows i may click on the wrong one as it is no longer in the same position order that i minimized it in. Is there some kind of flag setting or option that will keep minimized window icons set in the same order on the taskbar as they are minimized in? I tried locking the toolbar but that didn't help the problem.

Setting Individual Window Sizes

I cannot figure out how to set individual windows sizesin w7 and have them stay set. I have a desktop folder called "internet" where i keep about a dozen internet related shortcuts. It is set to display as medium icons and is sized to exactly hold those icons in two rows of six. When i open my computer (not sure why we keeping changing the name of this feature but that is another discussion) i have the view set to list and i want the window much larger than the desktop folder described above.

However what happens is that whatever the size is of the last window i close, any windows opened subsequently are sized that size. I want windows to retail their size as well as their view. Since functionality is obviously built in to retain view on a per window basis there has to be he possibility of retaining size as well.
