Hide Administrator Account At Normal Logon

How to hide the built-in administrator account at normal logon? I am now using windows 7 pro at work, and i am trying to recreate the system we had previously on windows xp pro. Namely, i had it set up so that each computer had a standard user account and an admin account. I used the built-in administrator account which is invisible on the normal logon screen - you have to start windows in safe mode to access it.

I have been into advanced user accounts and enabled the administrator account, but it shows up on the standard logon screen - is there any way on 7 to hide this account like it was on xp?

User Profile Service Logon Failed On Administrator Account

I am the administrator on our family laptop and i keep getting the above message. I can get into the other profiles but i cannot access mine from initial boot or by switching user. I am therefore unable to do the fixes i have read about because it keeps asking for the administrator password before it allows me to make any changes. When i enter the password, it once again tells me that the user profile service service logon has failed. I'm stuck. I tried the microsoft fixit but it didn't do anything.

User Account / Local Logon Problem

I have windows 7 pro factory installed on a new computer. Trying to install an old program (genemapper 3. 7) using xp mode, i get the following error message. You have to logon to the local machine. I am the only user on this computer and have full administrator rights. The company said i need to logon with a local account, not a networked account. Is there a way to setup a non-networked account?

Our it person is confused by this, since i am logging onto the local computer. It is connected to the internet, and another novell network, but i do not logon to the novell network and still get the same problem.

Users Cannot Logon Unless Given Administrator Rights

Users cant logon unless they have been given administrator rights. After the last windows update, i am the only one that can log on to my user account. All other user accounts that do not have administrator rights can no longer log on. If you attempt to log on to an account that does not have administrator rights it starts to log on, then it logs off, and then goes back to the screen were you choose which user you want to log in as.

If i give the other user to administrator rights they can log on, and everything seems to work fine. But i don't want to give administrator rights to other users just so they can log on (this is a quick and easy way for my kids to mess up my computer). What can i do to fix this?

Missing Administrator Account

During setup of a new computer with windows 7, i created two user account, selecting both as administrators. Today while trying to move a program i got a message stating that i can't perform the action because i don't have administrator privileges. I went to control panel, user accounts and family safety, add or remove user accounts.

Under the names on the icons, the word administrator is displayed, but when i click on a user account and then on change the account type, both users have the radio button next to standard user lit. I try to move it to administrator, but the change account type button becomes grayed (probably because i am not viewed as an administrator. So why did the user accounts change mysteriously to standard user and how can i get them administrator rights when i don't see any other user on startup.

Easy Transfer With Xp Administrator Account

I have an old computer running xp. I have  new computer running windows 7. I want to use easy transfer to move files from the old computer to the new. I have the tornado usb cable for easy transfer. I have one account on each computer. On my old machine this is called "administrator" and it has administrator privileges. In order to move files smoothly with easy transfer i understand that the accounts it moves the files from/to must be named the same. On my new computer, it won't let me create or rename an account to administrator because it says one already exists.

However this "already exists" account doesn't show up in the list of users on the new machine. I'm afraid that if i use easy transfer as is, it will move my old files into the hidden "administrator" account on my new machine and i won't be able to use them. I don't care what the name of the account is on my new machine, i just want to get it up to the level of functionality of my old machine as painlessly as possible. I have considered renaming my old machine account away from "administrator" but am concerned that this might cause other problems.

Non Administrator Account Login Problem

I have had my windows 7 administrator account working perfectly fine since the day i turned on my computer, but the guest account i set up refuses to work. I do not get an error message, nor any explanation of any sort. When i try to log in to the guest account, i see the words "logging in. " Which quickly becomes "logging out. " And i am returned the user-select screen. I also created a new account, with no privileges to test it. Same results. I am running the 64-bit windows 7, and have installed very few programs, although this problem has existed for some time.

I have no idea what could be causing this logging out, and the fact that i don't receive an error message adds to the confusion. I really would like a guest account so that other users of my computer don't have access to my private files.

Locked Administrator Account - Can't Rename

I recently had a new hard-drive installed on my laptop running windows 7, and during the process the technicians renamed my administrator account to a meaningless string. Now whenever i view things like task manager, it comes up with the username as that string, as opposed to what i want my username to be (my actual name).

I tried changing the 'computerowner' settings in the windows-nt section of the registry to my name, but that didn't seem to fix the problem.

After googling a bit, everyone seemed to say to rename the logged-in user in c:users but this option is locked to me! I only have two users showing there; my weirdly-named administrator and 'public'. The administrator has a little padlock icon on it and i cannot rename that user.

Administrator Account For Rescue / Backup Disk

I have a new hp pc and would like to create a backup disk for the os or whatever else might needed to rebuild the software in the event of a failure. I have not added anything to the system yet. Hp's help says nothing about what account one should be on to do this. It just shows the step. It seems very much like it should be done as admin. I understand that's hidden, but have instructions on how to get to it. So what's the answer? Secondly, did ms deliberately hide the admin account because it should not be used for every day operations, but only as needed to do admin work?

Well, i posted this to ms technet and got no answer in 24 hours, so i decided to jump in by using the rescue disk instructions. I put in a dvd at the prompt, and asked for a backup. It showed a green bar working on something. Shortly, i was asked if i wanted to format the dvd. Ok, why not, but what was it working on prior to this. I came back in a few minutes, and there was no indication where it was, so i pressed backup. I came back again some minutes later, and no indication anything was done. I noticed a choice of make image. Maybe that's what i should really be doing?

It would be really good if one knew the status after steps were completed.

Activate Administrator Account In Safe Mode

How to activate administrator account in safe mode? I have two accounts "user1" ("user" level and i know this password) and "admin1" ("admin" level)accounts. Built-in administrator account has a password (i know this password) but it's not active. I changed my admin1 password and now i can't remember it. I have tried to use built-in administrator account by "safe mode" but it doesn't shows up in the list of users (to log in safe mode)? I logged in as a user1 account with cmd prompt. I typed "net user administrator /active:yes" but os says "system error 5 has occurred. Access is denied". How i can use built-in administrator account (since i know that password) when it's not activated?

Delete Protected Folder From Administrator Account

A friend of mine set up my computer with just an administrators account. Later i went back and created my own user account and changed the name of the administrator account.

Now i"m trying to delete a folder but i keep getting the error that i need administrative privileges to delete the folder, but i"m using the admin account! I can't change the owner of the folder because the renamed admin account doesn't have the privilege to view the folder's current owner. How can i get rid of this folder and correct any other folder permissions.

Hide Update Not Working

Windows 7 pro, 32 bit, clean install. Windows update keeps offering two optional updates even after i've selected to hide them. One isan update to support sd cards > 32gb (which i don't need), and the other is an office live add-in (which i don't want). I've hidden these options several times but they keep reappearing. They aren't showing now since i just hid them (again) but i'm guessing since they've come back a half-dozen times now that they will eventually reappear. If i choose to "show hidden updates", those two are the only ones that are hidden. Is there some trick to making them remain hidden?

" Is there a means to fix this so i do not have to keep resetting these items? Thanks!

Folders Hide Settings Not Working

There are a number of shell folders in the my documents folder that i want to hide, such as favorites, links, searches, desktop, etc. When i set these folders' properties to "hidden, " they act hidden in the my documents folder itself, but are still visible in the navigation pane. Is this by design? Or is there a way for me to hide these folders completely? I don't manually access these folders very often, and i don't want to see them in the navigation pane (which i use regularly) unless i have "show hidden files and folders" checked.

Get Hdmi Working In Normal Mode

How to get hdmi working in normal mode? I'm having trouble getting my pc to output to hdmi using 32 bit windows 7. When connected via hdmi the screen shows the post/bios however the sides are cut off. Then it shows the 'starting windows' screen but after this it cuts off and shows 'no signal'.

I have a gigabyte ga-eg45m-ds2h motherboard with an intel g45/g43 express chipset and all of the drivers are up to date. I spoke to someone from intel who looked into the issue further and thought that the problem was that the driver wasn't picking up the digital part of the tv as it wasn't reading the edid properly. He couldn't however offer a solution.

Here is what the intel graphics properties diagnostic gives:

Intel® graphics media accelerator driver report

Report date: 6/8/2010
Report time[hr:mm:ss]: 20:4:58
Driver version: 8. 15. 10. 2119
Operating system: windows 7 (6. 1. 7600)
Default language: english (united kingdom)

Ian ps. It will boot into safe mode using hdmi at 1024x768 fine but as soon as i put it up to 1280x1024 it displays 'no signal' again. Seems to be definitely a problem with the resolutions.

Notebook Keeps Crashing In Normal Mode

Before asking, i'd like to say that i'm not familiar with all the tech terms; i was hoping if someone could just generally tell me what's wrong with my notebook.

So i have an asus eee pc, windows 7 starter. All this time it was working fine, but today when i switched it on, during startup it suddenly crashed and showed this blue screen with stuff written. It was saying something about 'found a problem with the system', and then there was 'system_registry' , 'if this was my first time experiencing this problem then i should reboot' etc etc but i didn't manage to read all of them because it'll quickly show the choose mode screen (safe mode etc) and so the same thing repeats again and again every time. I didn't even managed to get the notebook scanned or anything since it automatically crashes during startup.

What's happening here? Is it a virus or some technical faults i'm not aware of?

Add Delay To Auto Hide Taskbar

Windows 7 taskbar on auto-hide, possible to add delay for hidden taskbar to reappear?Hello, i mainly work with my taskbar on top and with auto-hide on. The problem is if i am working with a maximized application and i try to close, minimize, or restore the window. My mouse cursor will sometimes miss and make the taskbar reappear from hiding. Is there any way to increase the timing in which the cursor can re-activate the hidden taskbar?I know it can be done with thumbnail previews of pinned items.

I'm hoping the same could be done to the taskbar either by software application or registry tweak to which i have not found a solution for yet to my specific problem. I am also aware that windows down and windows up will maximize and minimize the current active window, but i find it less of a pain to keep my right hand on the mouse at all times.

Disable Auto Hide Taskbar From Getting Focus

How do i disable an auto-hidden taskbar from gaining focus when a program opens or requires input?
"Foreground flash count" isn't the answer because that just changes the number of times that the taskbar icon blinks. Foreground-lock-timeout isn't a fix either because that's just a delay before the program steals focus. I want to completely disable/disallow a program icon in the taskbar from gaining focus-ever. Why? Because i don't like the auto-hidden taskbar taking focus, appearing and maintaining that focus until i switch over to the program that has just opened or wants input.

Pc Stuck At Login Screen On Normal And Safe Mode

I turned my pc on in the morning and everything loads up until i get to the login screen and i can't do anything. The mouse doesn't move, the touchscreen doesn't do anything, and the same goes for the keyboard. I've tried "safe mode" and the same problem occurs. I've checked for errors and tried to start at last known good configuration and the problem is still there. I booted into windows vista and it worked like a charm. However, whenever i go into windows 7 the problem is present. If anyone could please help, i would be very thankful.

Windows 7 Freeze In Normal Mode, Safe Mode Works Fine

I am out of ideas. Three days ago my computer started freezing within a few minutes after startup. Freezes with no mouse movement and no keyboard. Must shutdown using the power button. Happens every time i start in normal mode. Safe mode works fine. I have done quite a bit of reading and tried a number of things, so far to no avail. Quite a few error codes present, here are some:

Winlog 6000
Service 7001
Distrib 10005
Service 7026
Event log 1101
Kernel 41
Browser 8032
Load perf 3011
Load perf 3012

I have tried restoring, turning off all non-microsoft services, disabling sound, updating video driver, memory test, adjusting bios per g skill tech forum. All hardware showing normal operation in device manager.

I can't find the minidump .dmp folder in c:/windows. The only location i find for .dmp files is in the watchdog folder, and there are quite a few in there. Let me know if i need to upload them.

My computer is a couple of months old and has been working flawlessly until this happened with one exception. (I have been getting occasional monitor blanking for a couple of seconds followed by a notification that the graphics driver has stopped responding and was successfully restored. )

Windows 7 home premium 64
Intel core i5-750 cpu
Gigabyte ga-p55-ud3r mb
G. Skill ripjaws f3-15000cl9d-4gbrh ddr3 (2 x 2gb) ram
Evga nvidea gts-250 video
Realtec alc888 sound

Unable To Logon

I have an issue w/win 7 pro that, hopefully, you have an answer for. This is a fresh installation on a new hd. Win 7 starts up, in fact the shared folders are accessible on my network, but i'm unable to log on - the logon screen is frozen, cursor won't move and there is no keystroke response.

Everything was running fine until i performed a boot-time defrag - before that i ran sophos antivirus and 4 "malware" files were detected and deleted from system-32 folder.

I've attempted to start in safe mode, with last known good config, and in debugging mode; all - nr.system repair - 'os started'; system restore - 'cannot find image on this computer'. (I know that at least 4 restore points were created). I can access a command prompt through system restore, but it appears that i'm confined to the x drive.

Anything you can think of short of reinstallation?

Win 7 Slow Logon

I loaded windows 7 64-bit onto my ssd hard drive (intel x-25m) when i had an amd 4000+ processor and asus m32n motherboard. Recently i changed my motherboard and processor to an intel core i7 processor and gigabyte ga-x58a-ud3r motherboard. I also installed a edimax wireless n pci wifi adapter.

Windows 7 starts up fine up until i get to the login screen. When i click to login it takes around 40s to load the windows screen whereas before it would take about a second.

Should i reinstall windows 7 to fix this problem? I had to re verify the copy of windows because i changed the motherboard and processor will i be able to reinstall windows 7 again without having any problems verifying the copy? (Its the retail version of win 7 64bit).

Just a note i have a picture as a background for my windows 7 desktop so the solid color background thing doesn't seem to be the problem.

Logon Service Failed

I have installed windows 7 3 times now and just had to do a system rollback today due to various errors within windows 7. Both home premium, starter and ultimate have all failed at some point. The latest problem appears that 6 ms updates went in (publish date 13th april) and upon reboot, and logging in it says the login service failed to start and then throws you back to the login screen. I had to start up in safe mode, log in and then rollback. I'm getting very frustrated now as the system won't remain stable for more than 1. 5 months before something happens.
