Video Hardware Error Appears When External Monitor Is Connected

Video hardware error message appears when an external monitor is connected to the laptop and i move the mouse after windows 7 has turned off the display (after 10 minutes according to "balanced" power plan). I run windows 7 professional 64-bit on my dell xps m1530 laptop and also use an acer v223w external monitor connected through hdmi/dvi cable. The graphics card is a nvidia geforce 8600m gt with 256mb. I have the latest graphics card driver (version 8. 16. 11. 8681) and monitor driver installed.

Everything works fine, except that i always get a video hardware error when i move my mouse to get the display back after windows 7 has turned it off (after 10 minutes according to "balanced" power plan). Sometimes the whole system crashes and i get a blue screen. I didn't have this problem two weeks ago when i was still running vista 32-bit. What should i try to solve this problem, other than disabling the "screen turn off" option in the power plan?

Video Hardware Error

I've had my sony vgn-nw for about 7 months now and this is the first time this has ever happened. I was watching an old episode of the office and suddenly got a blue screen.

-  I've seen this episode before from start to finish, using the same media player
-  When i restarted, i went to watch the same part of the episode where it crashed, and the blue screen didn't come back.

This one incident has got me worried though. Is this something i should now be expecting to happen again?  And if so, can it be fixed by restoring my windows version to a previous version or by reformatting.

When the laptop restarted, it showed the error message, but i clicked check later. I'm using windows 7 and this is the oly info i can find on the crash.

Video Hardware Error And Pc Shut Down Unexpectedly

This is what happens: my computer will hung, then will shut down unexpectedly (blue screen). Upon restart, windows will report a video hardware error. I brought my laptop to the sony center, they reinstalled the hardware driver. But this did not fix the error. They are saying that this is not the graphic card's problem - so i assume this is a bug of windows 7. Also, when i check the solution box this is what i get: this problem is being researched thank you for submitting a problem report to microsoft. At this time, we are researching the cause of this problem.
Please continue to submit all windows problem reports.

This will ensure that when a solution is available, you will receive updated information. I have experienced this problem several times since i had my computer seven months ago. I wonder, what causes this problem since it comes out randomly (ie playing games, standby, copying files)? And is this a windows 7 bug? And how can i permanently fix this so that i do not experience the blue screen again?

Dual Boot 7 On Internal Hdd And Xp On External Usb Connected Ide

One of my laptops is an old acer aspire 5610. I want to have a dual boot system, 7 and xp, but 7 on the internal hdd and xp on the external usb-ide hdd, and by that, i mean a 100gb ide hard disk placed into a hdd enclosure, connected to the computer through usb. It also has separate power supply. The internal notebook's hdd is also ide.

I have read that installing windows on external usb-ide hard disk may be possible, depending on my mainboard configuration. I have already checked my configs and it *does* support usb-ide boot up to be first priority. Anyway, since testing it would be really time consuming (to try to dual boot, and if failed, roll back everything) i want to ask your opinions, do you think is that even possible?

External Hard Drive Connection Was Lost While Watching Video

I was watching a video from one of my external hard drives. Halfway through the video, the hard drive's usb connection was lost. Some data was lost and i can't access one of my folders that also has videos in it. Thank goodness i have back-up drives which.

I don't connect but once a week so i didn't lose too much data. All of my other hard drives are fine. I have three main external hard drives connected by way of a 13 port usb hub which is then connected to my computer "dell xps 720". I'm running windows 7 64 bit. I then have three more back-up drives which i don't turn on until i'm ready to do back-ups which i am afraid of doing for fear of losing more data if another drive disconnects. To bring the drive back up i turned it off waited 10 secs and turned it back on.

I was able to restore all the data but one folder that says "f:"directory name" is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. " I'm not sure what i should do with that directory. This never happened under windows xp. I do like the way windows 7 looks, but there are other problems that i have which i will not put in this post. I think i will connect all of my drives to an xp machine and do my back-ups and keep my back-up drives disconnected from windows 7 unless someone has an explaination for this. This is the first time it has happened.

Win7 Does Not Detect External Monitor

I have just upgraded to win7 home premium 32 on a sony vaio laptop. Previously i was running vista business. I was happily using an lg1512s monitor plugged through the vaio docking station.
Post the win 7 install, my laptop does not recognize the external monitor. I have gone on to the control panel all control panel items-display-screen resolution and the multiple screen dialogue does not appear.
I have with no success:

· Clicked detect in the control panelall control panel itemsdisplayscreen resolution
· Clicked the f7 monitor on/off button.
· Plugged the monitor directly into the vaio (i.e. Not through the docking station)
· Used windows-x and tried to use the mobility centre to connect the external monitor.

Meanwhile i have plugged the monitor into another laptop i use that is running vista home and the monitor lights up so i know the monitor and the cables are ok. The problem is that win7 is not seeing the external monitor. Any ideas?

Unable To Extend Desktop To External Monitor

Unable to extend my desktop to external monitor after upgrading from vista x64 home premium to windows 7 x64 ultimate. After upgrading my laptop to windows 7 x64 from vista x64 i encountered a problem trying to extend my display to the external monitor attached to my laptop's docking station. This worked fine under vista. My initial attempt seemed to corrupt the video driver installed.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the video driver resolved this corruption - but still unable to extend the desktop. Device manager does not see the external monitor. Furthermore there would be 2 process (displaylinkdriveragent32.exe and displaylinkdriver64.exe) that will consume 100% of my laptop's cpu (each at 50%) - stopping the displaylink service clears this. I currently have the service set to manual. Attempts to start the service return the laptop to 100% cpu usage.couple of questions - what is the displaylink service? Do i need this to run? How to have it run and not consume so much cpu?

What do i need to do to get my laptop to see and be able to extend my display to it?

External Monitor On Asus Eee Pc 1005ha-m

I just bought an asus eee pc. It has windows 7, intel atom n270; 2gb ram and intel 945 express family graphic card. I plugged my external monitor (packard bell 190 w ab) in it through vga port. It works fine, but the screen resolution is not optimal! The best resolution would be 1336 x 768 60hz; which is the maximum. But windows only gives the option to choose between 800 x 600 and 1024 x 600 !?

I tried updating the driver for the graphic card, since the intel website learns me that there is a newer version of the driver. (Driver now installed is: 8. 15. 10. 1867) but this didn't really work. I tried updating the driver, selected the folder where i downloaded the file from the intel website and windows says that there is no better or newer driver available. Then i searched for a packard bell driver, but didn't find one on their website. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem?

External Monitor Flashes When Navigating Ie8

This is difficult to explain, so bear with me. I am using an external monitor with my compaq laptop. Everything works fine until i start ie, then each time i navigate to a new page the monitor goes black for 1 to 2 seconds, then comes on. But here's the really weird thing, if i open another program, like itunes, or media player and start a song, this flashing stops. As long as the other program is active, even if i stop the playback, everything is fine. But if i close the program, the problem happens again.

Also, at boot up the monitor goes black and comes back on several times until everything is on the desktop (this never happened with the laptop screen), this same flashing happens each time a program is opened (it flashes just once for each new program). Everything seems to be operating fine except this extremely annoying flash. Also, i have the laptop set to only display on the external monitor.

Dell 540 Dual Monitor Video Driver Issue

I upgraded to windows 7 64 bit from vista 64 bit on my dell 540 studio desktop. I have dual monitors. I downloaded the recommend driver from the dell site but system keeps shutting down. At first i was getting critical message "no suitable graphics card" found. If i rebooted, everything would work ok. I tried working with microsoft support on multiple occasions and this is still "unresolved". Now my second monitor won't stay on. Keeps going in analog save mode! What do i do next? I had no problems with vista! Dell offered to help if i paid another $200.

Cd Drive Error Code 19 - Cannot Start Hardware Device

After installing windows 7, this error appears with my cd drive, windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19). My laptop ran windows xp, and i used the windows 7 compatibility software to see if windows 7 can work with my laptop and it was approved.

Long story short after i installed windows 7 i installed all the drivers the sony esupport told me to, however my cd drive isn't working. When i go to the device manager and click on its properties i get the following error message "windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)". I tried uninstalling the driver and restarting and that didn't fix the problem either.

The printer appeared in the printers section and works fine. However, the printer also still appears in the unspecified devices and there are no options to delete it. When the printer is switched off it disappears only to reappear when switched on again. I have seen another issue with several posts of the same type but no resolution was posted.

Taskbar Flashes - Application Appears To Lose Focus

When running some programs ( access 2007 and tinker to name two), the programs appear to lose focus to the task bar in windows 7. The symptoms are as follows: 1) program window flashes (for microsoft access it happens only with the file open form) and the icon for the program on the task bar inexplicably scrolls to the right and back with each flash.

When this is occurring, it is nearly impossible to select an access file to open with the open. Dialog or play to play the game tinker. Setting hkey_current_usercontrol_paneldesktopforegroundlocktimeout to equal 30d40 seemed to resolve a similar issue with minesweeper, but not the other programs mentioned above. One more item to note: the issue appears to be user account specific. Any ideas?

Video Error In Tv Channels

I'm running w7 x64 and am having some issues with tv and video playback that i didn't seem to have in x86. I receive dvb from cable (foxtel) and fta (brisbane) in australia.

I get the message:-

Video error

Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly. Restart windows media centre or restart the computer.

This occurs on the fta hd channels (nine hd, one hd, abc hd, 7hd) through the dvb-t tuner, which is not being run the dvblink. It does not affect sbs hd . It also occurs on the fta hd channels that are coming via the dvb-c tuner that is run through dvblink and also the "premium" foxtel channels like showtime, showcase, starpics, etc. It does not affect channels like movie one, movie greats and all the other foxtel channels.

Also, when i play certain avi files, i get the "cannot play file" message.

I have a terratec 2400i dt for dvb-t fta and for cable, i have a technisat cablestar 2 pci and a tbc dvb-c usb stick. I also have installed the latest shark 007 codec pack with the x64 add-in. When i look at the codec pack in the program manager, it only gives me the repair option and not the remove. I'm thinking this is either a codec issue or a problem with playready, or both.
I have since managed to uninstall the shark pack and replaced it with the windows 7 codec pack, with the same results, so i don't beleive it's a codec issue.

Pink Screen Video Error

After logging in, if i click on the start menu or if i right click on any of my programs, it causes a system error. Both monitors change into one blotchy color, usually pink and purple, though both monitors are different colors.

Here are my system specs
2 nvidia 280s sli
2. 83 ghz quad processor
4 gb ram
1100 watt power supply
Dual screens (dvi) on my primary card
2. 2tb hdd raid5
Saitek keyboard and command unit

I don't know if any of the above are not compatible with windows 7 and i know it is not my video cards. They are brand new cards and it did it before them when i had two 9800gx2 cards. I think that it is a windows driver, and i have updated all the drivers for the hardware to fit windows 7 32bit. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this issue. I have googled it and there hasn't been a sufficient response to the one forum posting i did find.
