Using Win 7 Or Vista Driver 64-bit In Xp Pro For Printer

Can i use the windows 7 or windows vista driver 64 bit in windows xp pro for a printer? I have now two printers that will not work with my xp pro systems. One is a lexmark 1200 and the other is an hp laserjet 3100. I can find the driver for windows 7 at hp for the 3100, and was wondering what would happen if i installed that on my xp pro 64 bit system. Any advice would be nice.

Printer On Win 7 64-bit, Need To Access From Vista 32-bit

Printer on windows 7 64bit, need to access from windows vista 32 bit, wireless laptop over home network. I have a home network set up with a wireless router, 2 pcs hard-wired to the router, and a laptop connected via wireless connection to the router. The windows 7 pc has a lexmark 2690 printer connected to it via usb port, and the printer is shared to the network. The wireless laptop uses windows vista 32 bit, and the other wired pc is xp (32 bit) sp2.

I can connect the xp machine to the shared printer via setting up a "local port" using the host computer name and shared printer name in the port setup just fine. But, when i set up a "local port" connection on the vista laptop (wireless), any attempts to print result in an "access denied" error. If i try to access the printer via a "network printer" connection on the laptop, it does not allow the connection to be made at all.

Are there any suggestions on how to make a 32 bit vista wireless laptop connect to a shared printer on a windows 7 pc on the same home network?

Cd/dvd Driver Issues - Win7 64-bit Pro Install

Cd/dvd driver issues in the beginning of windows 7 64-bit pro install. Installer will not let me move on until i find a driver for my dvd drive. The only drivers i can get to show up on the list are 64-bit drivers.

I'm upgrading from 32-bit so it won't let me use my vista cdrom drivers.
I have a sony optiarc rw ad-7170s firmware 1. 03 dvd drive
I created the bootable iso myself because of the issue with the digitalriver install
I burned the iso on 2 discs at 2 differnt speeds, didn't fix it.
Dvd is plugged into a sataraid pci card.

I'm almost sure it'll let me through if i can get my hands on the basic 64-bit cdrom drivers. I can't even find them online though.

Visual Studio 2005 Pro Compatibility With Win 7 Pro 64-bit

Can i use visual studio 2005 pro on windows 7 pro 64 bit? I use visual studio 2005 pro on xp pro 32 bit. Can i use it on windows 7 pro 64 bit?I have looked on the vs site and could not find a definitive answer to using this version on my new os. I know, they're putting visual studio 2010 et al. I do not have the kind of cash they're trying to get from me. T least, if i can use it, i can do some self made/self-used projects. I will download the free development systems. But, they run out after 60-90 days. I still need to get ms office standard 2007/10.

Dell 962 Printer Driver For 64-bit

I am trying to download what the windows 7 site lists asthe compatible driver for a dell 962 printer on my home pc. The printer gets listed as an optional printer, and i can view the printer defaults for page size, etc. And can send docs and emails to it to print, but they fail immediately to print. Is there a step i am missing to get the printer to work for output? Using the windows update catalog, i stall and the screen which offers the option to specify location to place download. Clicking the browse button to exercise this option does nothing even if i wait several minutes.

Dell does not have a windows & driver posted on its site, and i have tried the vista 64-bit driver to see if it will work. That gets me a little further, but not completely where i want to be.

Multi-boot System Win 7 64-bit & Vista 32-bit On One Hard Drive

Multi-boot system windows 7 (64-bit) & vista (32-bit) on one hard drive - do i need two hard drives?I have an existing windows vista ultimate (32-bit) system installed on a 500gb sata hard drive, partitioned into 2 partitions (c: and d:). I would like to make the system multi-boot so that i can back-track to vista if i have a problem with win7.

One issue here is that i plan on multi-booting vista 32-bit and win7 64-bit on the same hard drive without touching the d: partition of the hard drive. I don't know if this is possible, but i'm interested to see if it is.

I've done some research and have found that win7 has many compatibility modes, so maybe i don't need to worry about keeping an installation of vista on my system? I just don't want to be "caught with my pants down" if something were to go wrong with win7, like if one of my programs was incompatible or something along those lines.

If i can't multi-boot vista 32-bit and win7 64-bit from the same hard drive, can i do it with 2 hard drives having one os on each hard drive? Or, am i being much too paranoid about this and should i trust microsoft on this one that win7 will not have any large compatibility issues with my most used programs?

For reference, here are some of my most used programs: firefox 3. 5, steam, adobe photoshop (versions 7. 0 and cs3), ie tester (for web development), winamp, trillian (an im and irc program), itunes, skype, mozilla thunderbird (for e-mail), and fraps (in-game video recording software).

I know that this is a lot all at once, but does anyone see any foreseen compatibility issues with any of these programs and win7 64-bit ? I'm also worried about the compatibility of some of my drivers with win7 64-bit, but i've heard that there have been leaps and bounds made with driver compatibility on win7 64-bit (as compared to the mess it was with xp 64-bit). Is this true?

Can anyone tell me with certainty if the drivers will or wont work for windows 7?

Upgrading 32-bit Vista To 64-bit Win 7 Without Losing Files

I have two computers with vista home premium 32-bit oem versions on them. I want to upgrade both of them to windows 7 home premium 64-bit versions, without losing any files, folders or programs.

Can i use the same family pack license to upgrade both computers to windows 7 home premium 32-bit versions, then upgrade both 32-bit versions to 64-bit versions using the same family pack license?

Will this keep the original files, folders and programs intact? Is this a reasonable process that will get both computers to 64-bit versions? Or should i just upgrade both computers to 32-bit versions of windows 7, and live with it?

64-bit Vista To 64-bit Win 7 Upgrade Fails

64 bit win vista to 64 bit win 7 upgrade fails at transferring programs , files and settings. I'm am trying to upgrade from vista home premium to 7 home premium. I've followed all instructions and kept getting hung up at the transferring programs, files and settings stage. I have turned off my anti-virus and disabled startup items and 'hid' services.

The cursor froze and it sat for 6 hours with no activity. I then tried a clean install in which i backed up and booted from the dvd. Once again i got to the last stage (completing installation. ) And once again my cursor froze up with no cpu activity. I waited 3 hours to no avail.could this be a corrupt pre-ordered dvd? If so, who can i contact to remedy this situation?

I have all the updates for my video card gt8600, and my tuner haupp 1250. It is not a real big deal, as i can get back shows from the internet, just this function of mc doesn't work. Is this a common problem with this upgrade?

Can I Install Win 7 Pro Without First Installing Vista Onto Ssd?

I have a couple questions about installing windows 7 pro. First, i just bought a new ssd and want to install my new copy of windows 7 pro onto it. I previously was running vista ultimate. My two questions are:

1) is there any problem upgrading to windows 7 pro from vista ultimate
2) can i install windows 7 pro without first installing vista onto the ssd?

I was hoping that i could just enter my vista serial number during the installation of windows 7. I would think it is a waste of time to have to install vista before 7.

64-bit Win 7 Upgrade From 32-bit Vista

I just went through a thorough effort to upgrade my desktop at home from vista 32-bit to 7 64-bit. Windows 7 upgrade advisor says the hardware is fine. I downloaded the home premium windows 7 upgrade from microscoft and paid for it. I figured out how to do a custom install and make a bootable dvd from the download. However, during installation i was expecting to be asked whether i wanted 32 bit or 64 bit. I tried several different things including booting from dvd. I got a 32-bit install and i cannot figure out how to get a 64-bit install. The product specifically says it includes both versions. How do i set the install to be 64 bit?

Moving From Vista 32-bit To Win7 64-bit

I have been trying to upgrade my core 2 duo machine that has been running vista ultimate 32 bit version for the last 3 years to windows 7 64 bit (what i run on my new laptop and love), and the whole thing has been a nightmare. I chose the clean install and also chose to format the primary hard drive. I'm not sure if it ever did the format because i never saw it the way i would on windows 2000, xp, or vista (the gui for the installation was extremely slow and unintuitive). Waiting for the installation was like pulling teeth. After about 4 hours it was around 25% done.

I went to bed hoping it'd be done by morning but no, it was around 74% done after the 11th hour. I returned in the afternoon to find that my computer was in standby mode and after waking up, it was telling me that it was preparing to run windows 7 for the first time.great! I thought. Except after i put in my computer name, system password, and the product key, computer has been frozen. I tried to restart the computer and went through the same thing, but after i put in the product key the computer just hangs. I tried keeping it on all night (after being on for 2 hours) but then if i leave it unattended the computer goes in standby mode. This is a train wreck.

After suffering through vista, i was hoping microsoft had figured things out but my computer is now a giant paper weight. I wish i could wipe out my computer and do a fresh windows 7 install but i've already paid for the upgrade and supposedly it checks to see whether xp or vista is installed (both of which i already had paid for and own) i'm thinking of reinstalling vista and trying the upgrade again, but if i can't get it to install windows 7 after that, i would be very upset and return this pos to amazon. Any ideas?  This is an older computer but it is 64 bit (core 2 duo), 6 gigs ram, 2 320 gig hard drives, decent nvidia graphics card. Has another 2 years of life in it at least.

Vista 32-bit To Win7 64-bit

I appreciate that an update from a 32-bit os to 64-bit is not possible, and so i shall have to run a clean install. Can i however, still buy an upgrade cd and use that to do the clean install, or will i have to purchase a "new version" as it were.

My processor is an intel core 2 duo (t7500) which, as far as i am aware, is 64-bit compatible. (I do have ubuntu 64-bit on it, so i can also assume so).

Also, if a 'custom install' (clean) is done, will it essentially install windows 7 as another partition and the delete the vista one, or the other way around. Seems a strange question i appreciate, but at the moment i currently have 17. 7gb free and according to windows, 7 requires 20. I could quite easily get rid of a load of content, but i'm interested in how the process works.

Vista 32-bit To A Win 7 64-bit

Okay i got the windows 7 upgrade discs from sony. The disc has 32 bit and 64 bit software in it. I'm trying to ask how can i upgrade from a 32 bit vista to a 64 bit windows 7? When ever i run the 64 bit setup i get "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x 86 (32-bit) of 64x (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher. " Note: the disc is a 32-bit and 64-bit, the os (32-bit and 64-bit) is in the same disc not separate.

Trying To Multiboot Vista 64-bit And 7 64-bit

I have pre-installed vista 64 bit, and want to multiboot win 7 64 bit on 2 different hard drives. I get it installed re-boot to system selection, but there is an error message: windows system 32 winload .exe

It won't let me load win 7 only vista. I re-installed 7 with vista drive unplugged with same result. 7 is ultimate 32 and 64 bit version. Same with vista from hp. Do i have a way to do multi-boot on 2 different drives or do i need to re-partition  the vista drive to get it to work. And why does 7 setup ask me if i have x84 or x64 bit. I think it should say x32 bit or x64 bit.

Win 7 Pro 64-bit Printing Is Not Available

I have seen numerous topics on her about windows 7 64-bit printing issues. Here is my case and i have not seen another like it. 1st - please be aware that this is in a corporate environment, 2nd - i have domain administrator rights across the entire domain. We have numerous printers in our domain and i generally use 5 of them. The printers that i am connecting to are attached to a windows server 2003 32-bit box and all printers have the x64 drivers enabled from the mfg on the server. I am running windows 7 pro 64-bit and am attached to the network via cable. I can browse for the printer and have it successfully add, and print a test page from windows. But when i am using applications like ie8, office, adobe reader, etc. I cant print. The specific error that i am getting is "printing is not available. There are no printers installed. You can select and configure a printer in windows control panel. "

I can tell you that i cant print to anything that is listed in my devices and printers, including the xps document writer from microsoft. This only occured once i installed office 2010 beta, and dropped back to office 2007 std. I have removed the printers and removed all drivers from c:windowssystem32spoolx643 and re-added the printers with the up to date drivers without luck. Anyone have an idea on this one?

Webcam Nx Pro With Win 7 64-bit

I know that creative won't make available drivers for its webcamnx pro (for windows 7 32/64). My question is: doesn't exist some driver, of another device, that can be used for that webcam to work under windows 7 64 bits? The webcam nx pro, from creative labs, is a very popular wecam, and a very good device too. Windows 7 is an amazing os, so. It would be great if they could work together. What can be do? Find a compatible driver? Write an independent driver? To press creative labs to create the drivers?

Win 7 Pro 64-bit - Random Freeze

I used windows 7 rc 32 bit before this, it worked like a charm. Now, i installed windows 7 pro 64 bit, it works for a couple of weeks smoothly.

Today, i did a few things:

1) installed thunderbird
2) installed a huawei e160g wireless broadband modem
3) changed my dns to 8. 8. 8. 8 and 8. 8. 4. 4
It froze a few times already, and this is what i recall:
1) firefox was open in all cases
2) the modem was being used in all cases
3) thunderbird was uninstalled, still happening.
However, it cant be firefox, i have been using it for weeks.

I just tried uninstalling the modem, smooth so far, but i cant be sure yet. I want to ask: has anyone else had problems with modems or their drivers/programs?
