Display Language Selection

I have searched on the web for an answer to the following question, and have found lots of info about "illegal" keys. I asked the ms help telephone centre, but alas, i don't really think the lady understood the question. And i asked a ms employee at a recent presentation, and am not really confident of the answer he gave.

So i'll ask here!

I have been given a boxed copy of windows 7 professional, unopened, for the french win 7 pro.

Now, i know that the key will be version specific, i.e. "Pro, " but is it also language specific? In other words, if i use a win7 pro (english) installation dvd will the "french" key work to give me an english install?

I really don't want to open the box to try this and therefore "waste" a key; if it won't work i'll try to find someone who can use the french version.

Language Bar Problem With Default Selection

I have added the us-international keyboard. The language bar gives me 2 options (us-i or us). If i select us-international, it converts to us whenever i open a new window (e.g. Thunderbird). I then have to re-select us-i. Is there a way to make the selection stick? Never had this issue with xp.

How To Change Display Language?

I buy a desktop and it supposed to be installed with windows 7 home premium with swedish language. But it's not. I talked to the reseller and they will send me a new dvd with windows 7 in swedish, so fare so good but:-

Do i really have to reinstall the whole computer?
Is there not a way to just change the display language?

I have already started to use the computer and it will take 14 days until i get my dvd. Isn't there any work around to just upgrade windows 7 or just change language in an easy way. It doesn't matter if the operating system is in english but i need the displays to show text in swedish.

Language Bar Will Not Display Button Number 2 Keyboard Layout Button

The language bar will not display button number 2 "keyboard layout button" as shown in help as the language bar (overview). I add 2 more language to english (en). I can switch languages from the language bar button #1 "input language button. I think button #2 "keyboard layout button" should let me select corresponding keyboard layout view on the screen. I can see kb layout previews when i add them but not on the the language bar as indicated in the help menu.

Multiple File Selection

I upgraded to win 7 and have had no problems with it until recently. I used to be able to select multiple files using.

Shift click
Control click
Check boxes
Drag window

In the usual manner. Unfortunately this is no longer working. It tries for a second or so and then de-selects the files itself !I have tried sfc /scan in an elevated command prompt with no errors returned. I have tried running a script called single-file-select which fixed this problem in vista (as posted on another forum). I have tried resetting the folder options to default. Unfortunately none of this has worked and i an tearing my hair out.

Display Problem With Display Driver When Multitasking

Just installed windows 7 home 64 bit a few weeks ago. I have been having a problem with my display driver. The screed flashes and turns black and then comes back on with a message in the lower right of the screen that reads "display driver stopped responding but has recovered". I have attempted to download and install a driver from amd web site, which is supposed to be the correct driver. When i attempt to install this driver my computer restarts because of a corrupted driver. Windows won't let me install the driver that is supposed to be the correct one. The graphics card is a ati hd3470. How do i fix?

Also i am missing other drivers for my fitjitsu lifebook a6220 like audio for hdmi output and many more. All was working fine with windows vista, now im missing several utility drivers i called fujitsu they say they are waiting on microsoft! If windows 7 was to be released all parties should have been sent a fix with all drivers not wait for the consumer to purchase windows 7 and have to deal with all the problems!

Power Options Page Doesn't Display "dim The Display" Option

I just installed windows 7 on my laptop and the power options page doesn't display a "dim the display" option, nor do the keyboard commands to dim the display do anything. I am running a lenovo g530 machine and there does not seem to be driver support for windows 7 on their support page. However i downloaded the mobile intel 45 chipset graphics driver for windows 7 and i downloaded the newest bios update; nether seemed to solve the problem.

When i switch between them the language bar shows korean but sill puts english characters on the screen. I have tried removing the input languages and uninstalling the language pack and reinstalling it. I believe the problem is with the properties of the korean keyboard properties. How do i fix this?

Language Choice

I live in the netherlands and have been looking for a pc, with win7 in english. A couple of places sell pcs with a choice of dutch or english win7 home. But i am unsure about this. I thought a choice of a different language was only available with ultimate. Nevertheless i have been informed that it is possible to make the choice of language once only and at the initial setup stage. I would be grateful for advice as to whether this is feasible. If it is not, would i be better off buying an english version of the home edition win7 and do a clean install on the new pc before i transfer my programs from my old pc?

Language Problems

I am on a trip abroad and i had recently bought a laptop computer that has windows 7 home premium oem 64 with japanese interface language installed on it. My problem is: i don't read japanese. I checked with that retailer and they told me its not possible to switch the language on any specific machine they sell since its the oem boxed set and that those can't be changed by the retailers. They did however offer me to spend more money and to buy a windows 7 upgrade which, as they put it will allow me to download language packs from microsoft and to change the actual interface language.

A friend of mine has bought windows 7 home premium english version 64 installation disk for her computer. And my question is : is it possible to somehow run a repair installation using her disk to change the interface language on my laptop using my product key? I mean, the os is non usable to me and in order to get any work done on that new laptop of mine i need it in english. If a repair installation isn't the solution please advise me on a reasonable solution to changing the interface language on windows 7 home premium.

Language Bar Changes Itself

The language bar randomly changes the language from us english to chinese for no particular reason, it also changes the keyboard input from us to multilingual canada, (which isn't that bad, you just lose out on most of your punctuation) has anyone else encountered this problem, i can change it back, it's just annoying when your typing and then you look at the screen and somewhere halfway through it you see that the language changed without any intention.

I can change it back but every couple days on the 3 computers i have purchased win7 for are having this issue, so i know it's not a hardware issue.

How To Use Chinese Language?

I have read some of the q/a concerning chinese language, and am more confused than before. I understand that chinese language capability needs a special download. My initial question is whether one can switch from english to chinese (and vice versa) simply by hitting a toggle key, or are things more cumbersome? Other questions: what form/s of chinese input is/are available? Is there a chinese-english or english-chinese dictionary capability?

Keyboard Language Toolbar

I agree with the query:  there is an easy route to removing the language bar (i.e. The way to control the keyboard language) in windows 7, but not to restore it. Windows 7 help says that one is to do it via toolbar selection after right-clicking the taskbar. Unfortunately, that is wrong: there are only 3 toolbar on offer in that pane:  address, links and desktop. And btw:  might i suggest that the support engineer remove the response from "rockmoibebe", as it does not solve the problem.

I checked different options of regional languages and internet explorer language settings, but i couldn't able to fix the problem.

Wrong Language Installed

Somehow while i was installing win 7 i ended up getting ukrainian installed. It only was visible on the calendar. All the rest of the screens and dialogue are displayed in english. I changed the calendar settings and now everything is in english.

Here is my problem. When i try to install office 2007 the dialogue window is in ukrainian. How do i fix this?

Since writing this i have checked region and language account settings. In advanced/copy settings i found ukrainian in welcome screen options. I changed everything to english and restarted. The issue is still there.

The opening dialogue box for office 2007 is still in ukrainian.

Installer Language Conflict

Just moved up to 64 bits windows 7. I have the dutch language version. I am trying to install msxml2 sp2 (msxml. Msi). One can choose from a number of languages, but not dutch, so i choose english (which is what i always did previously, and without problems). As soon as i click on install, my computer freezes up, and the only option is to turn off the power switch.

I have noticed that with other programmes (for example abbyy fine reader 9. 0) where one can choose the language (including dutch), the same thing happens if i choose a language other that dutch (fair enough), but surely we are allowed to use the msxml package? Any suggestions?Ideas:programs you are having problems with error messages recent changes you made to your computer what you have already tried to fix the problem.

Non Unicode Language Problem

I am using windows 7 home premium 32-bits(or at least something similar) and i have a problem with non-unicode language. I often uses korean and it often displays bunch of?, When i uses korean program that does not support unicode. I set the regional setting, non unicode to korean and still experiencing same problem. Some say if i change the locale to other language and change back to korean, it should work. But it didn't. Some say if i reinstall font package for windows 7, it should fix the problem, but it seems there is no official font package available on the internet. Where can i find?If those are not the solution, then what should i do to fix it?

Input Language For All Users

Is there a way to make the language toolbar stick for all users? In xp, if you turned on the language toolbar, it was on for all users. I can't seem to figure out a way to have it stay for all users. Each user seems to have to go to the control panel>clock, language and region>change keyboards options. I work in education so we'd like to keep from having to make every student that logs into a computer go through the steps of adding the keyboard layout each time they use a new computer.

Upgrade Language Incompatibility

I'm from portugal ordered an upgrade kit after being assured that my acer bought recently was prepared for the upgrade. I ordered the portuguese language, which is the original in my pc. The only one available was portuguese (brazil) which meant that it was the universal portuguese version. Now i can't upgrade because it says it's not language compatible. Whose responsibility is it? How do i get my money back or a correct upgrade kit?

Upgrade Product Key And Language

I'm trying to finish upgrading my network to windows 7 (i've upgrades 2 at the official release), so i bought a family pack upgrade. But the family pack was only available in french (no english copies left).

Can i use the product keys from the french family pack to activate english installs? I already have english upgrade media from the previous upgrades, so it's just a question if the keys will activate?

If i can't activate an english install what options do i have? Is the french family pack of no use to me?

Indian Language Fonts Unicode

I have upgraded to windows 7 from xp. Earlier, arial unicode ms used to be the comprehensive font set for all indian languages. Now after upgrading, i find this font set (arial unicode ms) gives wrong results for indian language fonts - particularly tamil and malayalam. In fact arial unicode ms was 'hidden' in the font set - i had to change it to 'show'. I have tried other fonts, but the glyphs are not properly implemented therein. I use unicode with notepad. But, i am unable to exercise compatibility to previous versions of windows. Even if i do, i seem to have lost earlier arial unicode ms version.

East Asian Language Support

With xp pro, you go to regional and language options to add input methods (ime) for east asian languages after installing asian language support. Language packs in xp change the languages for all menus and dialog boxes.

Is this similar with windows 7?

Which versions of windows 7 allow the installation of east asian support and east asian input methods (imes)?

Does the language bar in windows 7 work the same way as it does in xp pro?

I do not want to install a language pack, since i do not want to change the menu language. What i want to do in windows 7 is have the ability (as i currently do in xp pro) to write emails and create documents using chinese characters, and korea hangul.

Which versions of windows 7 have asian language support?

There is an answer to a similar question which did not address the issue. The person who answered this other question confused input methods (imes) with language packs. In xp pro, these are separate issues and i believe that this is also true with windows 7.

Language Support For Translation Work

We currently have home premium. We also purchased ultimate but have not installed it yet, and don't want to if it is not the solution. My wife does english/korean translation work. She can read and type korean with 7 home premium as it is. But needs a word program. So the questions are: do we need to install the ultimate edition? If we do, will that provide complete language support? Do i then need microsoft word. (There are many word processing programs here that people use. )

Shortcut Keys Changing Keyboard Language

Concerning short cut keys (ctrl + shift) changing keyboard language setting and changing the short cut key. For all the windows versions i worked with there is one short cut key set which has annoyed the out of me. Being ctrl + shift. Why? Simply because it changes the language setting of my keyboard from the used (us/international ) to the near non-existent (dutch ) and of course back if i accidentally hit it again.

In the netherlands, us/international is the standard keyboard format, yet all the version of windows have supplied us with a dutch keyboard setting (which is totally different, and jumbles up you key bindings big time)! This dutch keyboard however does not exist or is extremely rare, and it's a mystery to me why it is still existent.

To change the keyboard settings however there is the above mentioned short-cut combo (ctrl+shift) which is easy to hit accidentally. I want to get rid of the short cut key combination to prevent the constant frustration of discovering i accidentally changed the settings.

Is that possible? If so, how?
