Using Both Wired And Wireless Connection - 1 For Internet 1 For Printer

Using both a wired connection and wireless connection - one for internet access, one for printer access. We have a business dsl account, where we get 5 static ip addresses. We use the dsl router to connect 2 computers, a nas, and another wireless router, to provide access to others.

We have a networkable hp officejet 8500 a909g, but no longer have any more available ports to add it to the network. What i contemplated doing was hard-wiring the printer to the wireless router, then using the wireless card on my laptop, and a wireless adapter on the desktop (these are the 2 computers hard-wired to the dsl router) to connect to the wireless router, allowing us to see the printer and use it.

However, whenever i do this, the wireless connections seem to take precedence over the wired connections, which sort of negates the fact that they are wired in the first place. Is there a way to give the wired connection precedence, and then using the wireless only when we need to print? And does the computer being connected to two networks at one cause any problems?

Internet Connection Sharing Using Usb Modem / Ethernet Card

I have a usb gsm modem connected to my pc. My pc is running windows 7. On the lan card on that same pc, i used a crossed ethernet cable to connect to an ip camera using http port 8080. That camera also has an analog video output and that's what i need to use. On the camera, i only want to access it from the outside world over the webpage to control the pan tilt and zoom features but as for the video itself, i use a usb video converter that converts my analog video stream to a digital bitstream which is then transmitted by a "server" software on on the pc.

This "server" program uses incoming port 9700 so client software can connect to it. T the moment, from the pc, i can:- see the video from my camera using internet explorer by typing [http://:8080] although that's not the goal but it at least indicates my camera is functional;- connect to any external web page without a problem to prove internet is working;- run the video "server" program that sends the video from that pc to a pc with a client software on another network - this proves that the pc on the remote network has connectivity to the pc with the server software, hence the incoming port 9700 on that pc is working.

My problem now is that i need to access the ip camera's webpage to move the camera. But i can't. I have been trying to figure-out this problem for the last two days and i don't know why it's not working. I don't know were to look anymore. All this worked just fine in windows xp but with windows 7, i have no idea.

Wireless Internet Connection Problems

I got a new sony vaio laptop for my birthday yesterday and i have spent all night and all of today trying to connect it to the wireless internet in my house. It has windows seven and my computer techonologically informed friend says that because my new laptop is with windows seven, but the router is hooked up through a vista computer, that it is not compatible and my laptop is not letting me connect to the wireless. When we tried to investigate the problem on my laptop, it says that it is connected to my netgear system, but the connection is not strong enough for me to actually use the internet.

I did not have this problem with my previous windows xp acer laptop. It didn't have a problem connecting and allowing me access to the router. My friend believes this is a fault with windows seven, and so i have turned to this site for help. We have investigated as many possibilities as we could but could not resolve the situation. Is there something wrong with my computer? Or is this a common problem that is easily fixed?

Xbox 360 - Win7 Classifying Ethernet Connection As A Public Network

I'm trying to network my xbox to my laptop, i've gone through the whole thing, setting the ip address, gateway, sub-net mask, and blah blah blah. Whats got me now is that windows insists on classifying my ethernet connection with the xbox as a public network instead of private, and because of my firewall settings, it won't let me enable file/media sharing. Any solutions?

Wireless Internet Is Connected But No Internet Access

I just bought a new computer with os windows 7. As i was doing the set-up, it asked about the home wireless network and i identified it and entered the internet key. After the set-up was over, i cannot connect to the wireless network. It says connected and no internet access. It has the public icon and "unidentified network".

I have a "network error" window that keeps popping up that says "another computer on this network has the same ip address". I tried one of the solutions on this site to resolve it. I used the command prompt to release and renew the ip address and seems to not have worked. How can i get a valid ip address? And how can i make my computer recognize the home wireless network?

I am very, very frustrated with my new windows 7 ultimate os(4 gb ram) because, ie ver 8, crashes constantly. I tried firefox on the pc and it crashes also. Therefore, it is something in the os versus the browser. It works just fine on my win. Xp pc. I am trying to use and when i go to one of the free discussion threads, it crashes - every time.

Internet Connection Speed

I have a fairly new samsung r580 notebook with win7 home premium. My internet connection speed is fixed at 65mbps. My wife's notebook speed today was again 130mbps. Our top speed with cox cable is 156mbps. Our modem and wireless router max out at higher speeds than the 156mbps from cox.

So, why am i maxed out at 65? I tried to trouble shoot as well as updating the driver and still, my speed is 65. My notebook has a high-end processor. Is this a problem with win 7? Or. ?

Internet Connection Sharing

Im trying to create a wireless network using my laptop connected to the internet via ethernet(cable connection). Tried to set up an ad hoc connection so that my phone and ipod touch can access the net but when i do so and tried to share the connection through managing wireless networks i got this error - an error occurred while internet connection sharing was being enabled. Internet connection sharing cannot be enabled. A lan connection is already configured with the ip address that is required for automatic ip addressing.

Problem With Internet Connection

I am having problems with my internet connection. About a week ago, a message popped up saying i needed to clean the c drive and to click for help. I clicked and it ran something and told me to uninstall programs i wasn't using. I uninstalled things i did not think i was using but am afraid i may have uninstalled something imperative for making the connection. We have internet service cause our other computers are working. I may have deleted our internet connection but when i troubleshoot it asks me for info (i don't have) or for a disk. I'm not sure how to create the connection again.

Internet Connection Instability

I've recently purchased a new laptop - a gateway nv54zu. However, i've been unable to fully enjoy it on it as i get random latency / ping spikes and then immediate disconnects. The easiest way i can describe it is it seems as though something is cycling, causing the connection to reset / recycle almost instantly then going back to normal almost immediately.

I find the problem in most things i run (or try to) : world of warcraft, instant messengers, ventrilo, basic browsing (page time out in both ie and firefox), movie/music streaming and the list goes on. I've tried everything i can think of and even spent hours googling and trying to see what i can't find or where to start.

I've power cycled both pc and modem. I've disabled windows firewall, wlan, windows antivirus, norton antivirus. I've tried tinkering with the network card. I've updated every driver i could think of and even ones that weren't related (video, sound, chipset, etc). I've tried the latency reductions aswell. I have disabled checksum offload. I run "as administrator" and have tried various comparability modes.

I have called my isp seeing if it was something on their end. The connection was fine with my old pc (fried mobo - but running xp). This is the only thing on the network / using the connection.

I've hit a wall and don't know what else to try. *Any* suggestion might be the solution.

Basic information :

Gateway nv54
Windows 7 - 64x
Broadcom netlink gigabyte ethernet connector - driver version - 14. 0. 0. 7

Connection type : cable - direct wired
Router : none
Modem : motorola sb5120
Any other info - more than happy to provide if it might mean a fix.

Loss Of Internet Connection On Turning On

I've just got bt broadband through a hub and it was running perfectly on vista. A few days ago i upgraded to windows 7 and now when i turn the computer on there is no internet connection found. I used both the bt help thing to discover the fault and the windows diagnostic but they don't help, and the bt one says that there is a problem with the connection to the hub. I've checked the ethernet cable and used the installation disc but the same thing happens the next time i turn the computer on.

There's no problem with the hub because we have two other computers running off it which have no problems. The only way i can get the net back is to system restore to before when i installed a driver for my epson printer. Since it fixed the problem i thought maybe the driver was the problem but i've not reinstalled it and it still loses the net connection on turning on. I don't know what else to try. Any help is appreciated please =)

Internet Connection Not Working After Update

I always install all the updates that are released on "update tuesday. " This time around that wasn't a great thing. I installed them as usual and everything was fine. I came home yesterday to find that my wireless internet connection wasn't there, only to realize that the cats had unplugged it. After plugging it back in the connection came back on for a moment then i was disconnected again. I restarted the computer and everything seemed fine. I tried to play some games that my system always runs great but i had lots of lag in online play so i gave up. I woke this morning to find that my network id was available in my wireless connections but i couldn't connect to it.

The troubleshooter only gave a "there is a problem with your router/gateway" answer which was false as my wife's notebook could surf the net just fine. I then used system restore to go back and uninstall the updates that were published on 4/13/10. Upon restart i was able to connect to the network just fine. Also since that update i can't use the taskbar to open the network and sharing center or the action center but have to access these things through the control panel and this problem was not resolved like my network connectivity problem was. Perhaps the latest round of updates is buggy?

Internet Connection Access Controller

Does anyone know a free program (from a company that can be trusted) to controller internet connection access? I want to be able to connect to the internet via password once per time i'm on the computer and have it disconnect automatically when i put the computer on standby or when it switches users. The reason i'm not doing this through the modem settings page automatically is because i also have a wireless connection that i want to always be on (so that all i have to do is connect wirelessly with no extra steps on the computer).

Problem With Internet Connection Speed

If i connect from my modem directly to the pc i get an internet connection of atleast 22. 5 mbit/s and it can go all the way to 28. 5 mbit/sif i connect the modem to my wireless router, then to my pc and to 3 other laptops, speed drops to 14 mbit/s on my wired connection to the pc and to 2-3 mbit/s on wireless g laptops. Even if there is no one else connected or using bandwidth, the connection speed drops to half on my computer.

So basically my question is this, why the big drop from a direct connection to a modem and a direct connection to a wireless router? Is there anyway to hog most of the connection to my pc and leave a couple of mbits for the other 3 laptops? Ive tried using ad hoc networks but for the most part it has been unreliable. Is there anyway to use the following network config: internet -> modem -> pc -> router -> 3 laptops over wireless the router to blame for the drop in speed? What are my options?

Wired Internet Connection Problem

I have windows 7 on a brand new computer and it is connected to the internet through an ethernet cable to a westell router. My internet connection appears to drop intermittently. (Less than a second. Then reconnects) this becomes irritating because many times when i navigate to the next internet window it will say that i am not connected, but if i hit the refresh button the web page appears. Is this a common problem with windows 7? I have performed some trouble shooting my self to no avail, i disconnected the ethernet cable and ran it wireless, but this did not change anything. Any suggestions for further troubleshooting would be helpful

Internet Browsers Connection Crash

I'm having problem with all internet browsers. This error occurs only when i'm using my main user, admin user. When opening mozilla or ie the page won't load. I have to wait like 2 minutes then page loads. I'm in guest user at the moment and no problems. It seems like my internet connection goes away, but no. I'm using msn and other connection required programs so connection isn't the problem. Still my browsers won't get proper connection to internet and won't load pages at first. Every time i reopen browser same problem occurs again. This problem really bothers me. I'm using windows 7 64-bit and running 4gb 2, 7ghz machine. Modem connection, not wireless.

Internet Connection Lost On Restart

I've just installed windows 7, after having windows xp installed for the last 8 years. Everything is more or less good, however i have an internet connectivity issue (which i did not have in windows xp - so can't blame modem/router for that). Every time i would restart my computer (restart/shut down and turn back on - same thing) i would lose the connection to the internet. The network icon on the bottom right would have a warning sign on it. The way i have found to solve this is to unplug the network cable and plug it back in, which causes the connection to reappear correctly.
I have asus p5n32-e sli motherboard and have installed the drivers that came with it after windows 7 installation, i have then updated the drivers to what was recommended by windows 7 in the update service - that is when the issue began i believe.

No Internet Connection Win 7 64-bit

I've recently been infected with a virus, and now can't connect to internet. The network connection icon on task bar has changed and has a red cross through it. When clicked it says not connected, and no connections are available. In device manager i get no network controller drivers are installed.

I've bypassed the belkin 802. 11g network adapter (pci) and plugged the sagem routed directly into the pc and still no connection. I know the connection is working as i'm dual booting this pc. How can i get the win 7 drivers back in if i can connect to internet?

Internet Connection Freezing Problem

I have an internet connection problem. I am using an usb adsl modem to connect the internet. Sometimes my internet connection drops, i can not connect to any site. When i look at the network connection shortcut (notification area) on the taskbar, it says there is no internet connection. However, it also shows that adsl is still connected. If i want to cut the connection, it doesn't. And after that i can not access the panel any longer, it simply freezes. Reconnecting the usb modem doesn't help. I have to restart the pc completely.

This was happening in my windows vista laptop, i thought it is a problem by the laptop. But it also happens in my windows 7 desktop. Same usb, different driver, different windows. What can cause such freezing in the internet connection? How can i solve it?

Wireless Connection Lost

I have a wireless connection for the internet set-up to my neighbors house and although my pc says there's a good signal between us, i often lose my internet connection, especially when microsoft have downloaded an update. I am sure the fault is somewhere in my own pc. When it does happen, i have to use system restore every time to re-establish the internet link. The fault number which appears is: 80072ee7, i being a silver surfer have no idea what that means or what to do about it.

Cannot Detect Wireless Connection

I have a wireless modem set up and other laptops in my house can get a signal but my own personal laptop cannot. The wireless network list on my computer shows that the network is detected and that i am connected. Despite this, the signal comes in and out and tends to be very weak. The signal on the bottom right shows full bars so the signal is supposedly very good but somehow i cannot get on the internet. I have tried multiple websites and the message that internet explorer cannot open the web page comes up.

Program Cannot Be Run Because Of The Internet Connection Type

"program cannot be run because of the internet connection type" or "connect to the internet or contact your network administrator" i am having this issue with internet explorer whereby there must be a problem with the connection type settings because everytime i attempt to download either an application such as java or another search engine such as google chrome and even anti-virus such as symantec.

I am allowed to download the program but when i go to run the program i get different error messages for each application but all saying the same thing e.g. There is a problem with the internet connectivity-and this blocks the applications from running-another thing that happens is that when i get to an internet "hot-spot" where the browser is supposed to redirect to the login page of that network my internet explorer is not doing that.

Instead, it brings me to my home page and does not allow the network access page to be displayed. It also happens with skype, i downloaded it but when i went to run it, it sates: "please connect to the internet" when i am actually online on other tabs. Your help would be really appreciated.

Ps: i have tried reseting the setting for internet explorer from the advanced tab on the "internet options" window. I have also contacted my school's it center and they say that their connection is not limited in anyway (it also happens at home where i administer my network). I wanted to uninstall ie but could not find it on the "remove programs" list. Again, i have internet access but i am just not allowed to run applications and sometimes videos.

Internet Connection Sharing Using 3g Usb Router

I have three machines, two running win 7 and one xp machine. My internet connection is via a 3g usb connection on my main machine running win 7. I recently purchased a d-linkdap-1160 wireless router so that i can share the internet connection. It seems win 7 cannot or will not share the 3g connection when using the outer. If i set up an ad-hoc wireless network and exclude the router then ics works with no problem.

As soon as i try to set ics and use the router then everything falls over and i lose the internet and the wireless network. If the 3g connection is installed on the xp machine and shared using ics then i have no problems. Do the same thing on win 7 and it will not work. My local techie suggests setting up a proxy server on win 7 main machine and letting that handle the internet sharing. Any other ideas?

Wireless Connection Service Error

I am currently using a sony vaio laptop. When i use the web function, my wireless connects without any problem. However, when i load my computer i cannot seem to connect. The troubleshooter says 'windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary dns server). Also, the ipv4 says 'internet', the ivp6 says 'no internet access'. I have tried following some of the other advice but the 'run' function will not allow me to run commands as the administrator, even though i am the only user on my laptop.
