Update .net Framework 2.0 Sp2 Constantly Fails

Somehow i've lost .net framework 2. 0 and my auto update wants to install .net framework 2. 0 sp 2 and the 3. 5 family but it constantly fails. I've followed the microsoft support guidance but nothing seems to work. I've uninstalled all the .net framework entries i've had and then tried to reinstall them, but have only successfully reinstalled versions 1. 1 and 1. 1 security update. Version 3. 5 sp 1, two hot fixes and one update, and they are listed on my currently installed programs window in control panel, but when i tried to uninstall the update, a message came up saying that action was valid only for products currently installed! The hot fixes say they cannot be uninstalled, and 3. 5 sp 1 won't uninstall.

Upgrade For Win Xp Sp2

I am one of many xp users currently considering making the move to windows 7. I would like clarity on the following before i purchase windows 7. Windows 7 upgrade from xp sp2i would like to utilize windows 7 upgrade as it is significantly cheaper than the alternative but have read that i must install my upgrade on an existing windows xp installation and partition.

I will require that i format my hard-disk before installing the upgrade as i have a virus requiring a re-install and im sure my system has a number of dll files that are currently useless and slowing down my pc. I do not mind re-installing xp and then upgrading to windows 7 as my system does this rather quickly.

What i do need to know before i make my purchase is the following:1. My version of windows xp includes sp2(32-bit), will i need to download sp3 and other updates before upgrading is possible?2.

Will the upgrade (please also note im going from 32-bit to 64-bit) delete all dll's associated with my windows xp installation? Including programs that come with xp such as msn messenger? I will be doing a clean install of windows xp sp2 so there shouldn't be other dll's as i will not install any other programs other than an anti-virus. I do not want to utilize the upgrade if my system will be slowed down by dll's associated with my windows xp sp2 installation, and i do not want to spend a week downloading updates every time i need to perform a re-install of windows 7.

Reboot Loop After Trying To Reinstall Sp2

I have a presario 7550 with windows xp which was updated to at least sp2 and ie8. After the infamous updates from 2/10/10, my computer cycled to the safe mode screen. I could not enter safe mode, instead it would keep just looping back.

Had no choice but to go into system recovery, which after restart, reloaded some sort of problem that i had a year ago - not allowing me to open program files. I went to safe mode again, right clicked program files and changed ownership back to me (from another profile named administrator(s), with an "s". This re-enabled me to open the files.

Windows eventually reloaded, but at sp1 and the best i have now is ie6.

If i try to upload security essentials, then sp2, i get an error that states a windows file is corrupt or missing. After sp2 installs - i go back to the restart loop displaying the factory "presario" screen, giving me the choice (or chance) to do a system recovery (f10) again.

Since after recovery, i was still able to get into safe mode and the recovery console (but not from a boot disk) i tried the posted fix from the command line windows/ : chdir $ntuninstallkb977165$spuninst - then - batch spuninst. Text - then - exit

This just sent me back to the restart loop featuring the "presario" option of exit or f10 recovery (looking as it was going to load windows for about 5 seconds).

I am currently at sp1 and ie6 which has only basic functionality but is extremely unstable (temperamental).

Norton has been removed, so has all of the other factory preloaded junk.

I noticed that i have about 20 "windows xp hotfixes, including abot 6 or 7 containing (sp2) in their name" in the remove programs section of control panels. I have not removed any of these.

Can anyone help?

Winhlp32.exe Windows 2008 Sp2

I've completed al steps in the q-article kb917607. I've installed the patch and added both reg hacks: windows registry editor version 5. 00

[Hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftwinhelp]

"Allowprogrammaticmacros"=dword:00000001
"Allowintranetaccess"=dword:00000001

I still get the error message: cannot display this help file. Try opening the help file again, and if you still get this message, copy the help file to a different drive, and try again. Why isn't the reg entry working?

Error Parsing Xml

I recently did a clean install of win7 pro x64 and encountered an error when starting the local security policy from the administrative tools. The error reads as follows:

Administrative templates

!Encountered and error while parsing.

Encountered an error while parsing.
Illegal xml character

File c:windowspolicy definitionsinetres. Admx line 23946, column 19

Other than being able to confirm the file is in the directory where it says it is and seeing it has a date of 06/10/2009, i have no idea where to go from there. I searched the internet for this specific error and file to no avail.

Install On Dell 530s Core 2 Duo

Tried to clean install win 7 pro upgrade from vista home premium, it left vista stuff (asks @ boot which os, and both work) & win 7 tries use d:recovery for programs. D: now complains about space. How do i nuke it all and get a clean win7.

Dell 530s core 2 duo
Vista home premium preinstalled / have original dell recovery cds
Purchased windows 7 pro upgrade on dvd
Have backup of data on a usb hard disk.

1) i don't want to keep any old programs, data, etc - just a new clean install.
2) i know you shouldn't install to the recovery partition - it always defaults to there.
3) i think the dell recovery stuff took up close to the 10gb.
4) i'm pretty sure i could recover to factory original with the dell disks in a disaster.
5) tried reinstalling with different parameters several times - same problems.
6) tried to reformat from instructions in a similar answer on this forum - won't let me.
7) i believe it told me i could only do a clean install from vhp -> w7pro, it lied.

Win 7 Does Not Detect Dual Core, But Bios Does

Windows 7 pro does not detect dual core, but bios and intel processor id tool does; have tried everything. Have a e6600 dual core, evga 680i board, 4 gb ddr26400, gtx260, 7 pro upgraded from vista. I have looked all over and tried almost everything. Bios detects dual core as it allows me to enable or disable the second one, and intel proc id tool detects 2 cores. However, windows 7, and any other programs like cpuz and core temp report one core. Under device manager only one core is listed under processors, and under computer it says acpi x64 pc or something instead of acpi multiprocessor.

Msconfig only shows one core to be enabled/disabled. Have done repair install, full install, reformat install and still only one core shows. Tried easybcd with core=0 to try and reset, and nothing. Bios is up to date (p33), reset bios settings and even escd reset. This all started after power cut out randomly. At first, windows would not boot, but did mbr repair using a 7 home disc and it booted. Few min later comp felt sluggish so looked at cpu usage and task manager and found out about only one core detected. One graph/cpu is already selected as it is the only option.

Editing Xml File In Program Files Folder

I have a .net program that reads an xml file located in the application startup folder. Under windows xp, i can simply go in and edit this file to change settings, etc. In windows 7, it is driving me crazy. It looks like i am editing it (running notepad as administrator) and writing the file back to the folder. But then i start the program, and the settings remain unchanged. I've even tried deleting the xml file completely to no avail - the program should give me an error if the file cannot be found (it does this correctly under xp), but it somehow seems to find the original file even though i cannot see the file in windows explorer or find it from a dir command in a dos box.

Ie6 / Ie7 Compatibility Issue With Xml Files

I have a strange issue going on. I have inherited some code from a previous programmer, and he builds an xml file and pushes that to ie for printing. It's been fine in ie6, but now that we're rolling out ie7 to our workstations, it no longer works. It seems to be in an endless loop, and it will display some of the report, then that disappears, and something else will pop up later, and this just goes on until i kill ie via task manager.

The really odd thing is that in testing, if i stick the file on the web server and point ie7 at it, it works properly, but if i double-click the html page or point ie7 to it on the network drive, it locks up. Ny ideas what i'm missing here? The file in question is at http://www.co. Tillamook. Or. Us/gov/ois/testing/genericreceipt.htm

.xml File Located In System32 Folder, Is Not Recognised

I have a problem concerning an xml document and windows 7 system32 folder. I have recently installed the latest driver for my nvidia graphics card and one of the files it loads is nvapps.xml into the windows7 system32 folder. I also use a programme called nhancer which modifies the nvidia programme for the benefit of ms flight simulator x (my hobby).

I now find that nhancer cannot load because it cannot find the nvapps.xml file in system32. If i highlight the nvapps.xml file in system32 and press open or edit, i get the message which says :- windows cannot find "c:windowssystem32nvapps.xml". Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. (Actually, i get this message three layers thick on the screen (i.e. I have to acknowledge it three times before the message disappears from the screen)). I have found that there are ten *.xml files within system32 and five of them produce the above message and the remaining five all open easily and correctly. Of the five that windows cannot find two of them are associated with the nvidia driver and the other three are not in any way connected with that driver. I have also found that if i copy the nvapps.xml file to a different folder or hard drive, then i can open or edit it quite normally and without difficulty. I would be grateful for any advice or comment that about my problem.

Services Settings

I have been trying to maximize the performance of my rig since i only have 4 gigs of ram and my ancient 1 year old mobo can hardly cut it with windows 7 (sarcasm intended). So, i have been fiddling with services but i occasionally mess things up and i end up painstakingly trying to reset those service back to their defaults, one at a time. How hard could it be for the services panel to have a ‘default" or "reset" button? So when people like myself (i’m not very smart) mess up a setting, we can simply click "reset" and the ole’, comfy, default services fix my screwup. Are there other ways to do this other than the aforementioned "by hand" method. Software? Utilities?

Interactive Services Detection Error

On bootup this morning i have been bombarded by a 'interactive services detection' dialog box - i've never heard of the program and am unsure what to do with it. Closing out the dialog box will make it disappear for roughly 10 or so mins, on which it will then return. I had a bluetooth detection warning or error this morning as well(i didn't see what it said before it went away).

I'm running win7 x64  on an alienware laptop - i ran mcaffee as well as some other security programs  and nothing popped up with an security issues - so i'm guessing that this is actually a windows program(although i have not heard of it). I went through google and a few of microsoft's sites and have yet to find any information regarding what the parent program is, what it does, how to disable it, etc.

I bought this laptop new, around 6 months ago and this is the first time i've ever encountered this particular error/dialog box - i did not install, download, or change any programs recently(within the past week, minimum). So i'm a little stumped as to why this is coming up now - with no changes to my system. So if anyone could provide some help/literature  on what this program, it's parent program, and anything connected to it does, is, etc and if this program is in actuality a virus or just a program, and to what i should do with it(delete, repair, etc) would be greatly appreciated.

>Win 7 x64
>Alienware laptop
>Most if not all drivers, updates, etc downloaded and applied
>Wireless router, bluetooth printer/fax(not connected to this laptop)

Terminal Services Default Printer Issue

In this message, the user is having trouble in windows 7 losing the default setting on a printer. Alan morris from microsoft chimes in noting that this is an "old" terminal services issue. I believe i am having that terminal services issue. I use remote desktop to my office workstation. I have my home printer's driver loaded on this office workstation so that i may print to my home printer when remotely connected to my office pc from home.

When i break that connection - usually by just closing the mstsc window - my office pc does not return the default setting to my typical default printer. Either my default setting is lost entirely (no setting at all) or the quickbooks pdf printer gets set as the default. Can anyone help? Especially since this might be an old issue related to terminal services?

Active Directory Domain Services Unavailable

I'm running windows 7 and after the last set of updates (4/15/2010) i can no longer access the print servers (version 2003). It gives me the message: active directory domain services unavailable. I have verified that dns is set up properly and have tried without the firewall active. I have also tried doing a system restore but that failed to fix the problem. I suspect a registry issue as i have the same problem regardless of what problem i try to print with.

I am also now having a problem with adobe and am getting the error message: unable to print: no pages were selected to print. I noticed that these patches are for patches. I am also unable to use the diagnostics program because it says i do not have the "download a file periodically that helps determine system problems" box " checked even though i do. My computer is a tool that is useless with out this ability.

Active Directory Domain Services Not Available At This Time

I know this has come up before but i am at my wits end and i seem to have tried everything. I have a dell studio laptop running windows 7 connected by wireless to a bt home hub. It is connected, i thought locally, to a hp laserjet 1100 printer. Recently, suddenly, it refused to print out of word 2007 (and excel 2007)and the error message above has been displayed. I have tried re-installing the printer, both as myself and as administrator. I have tried troubleshooting, but this reconnects as a network printer and nothing happens.

I am not expert enough  to start doing professional things. Is there a fix or will i have to but a new printer? The annoying thing is that my imac works fine, but for some things i need to communicate via windows.

Services Explorer.exe Don't Work

I have windows 7 32 bit home edition installed, when i start my computer after logging in there is a message that says "c:windowssystem32system profile desktop not accessible, check user-name and password. " In the middle of the screen and my desktop is all black with no icons. In the lower right hand corner a bubble that says something along the lines of "could not connect to user profile service, this may prevent normal users from logging in" pops up as well. Anything i try to run either does not respond or says "the server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect.

Check user name and password.initially i did a clean boot and it brought back my desktop and allowed some programs to run (such as eclipse, skype, calculator and others) but i was still unable to get explorer.exe to run. However this no longer works although this functionality will come back seemingly randomly at times. The only thing i can think of to fix my computer is to re-install win 7 but i don't have a disk, i only have the download on my computer and last time my desktop came back i tried to run it but i got the "this service cannot be started" message. Safe mode works, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it other than the fact that it is safe mode and doesn't have full functionality.

I can't do a system restore as it seems i accidentally turned it off at some point and there are no restore points. I have tried sfc /scannow with no success. I tried looking for problems with registry keys but i haven't been able to find instructions on how to fix possible problems related to this in win 7 and seemingly similar problems in xp/vista don't seem to have the same structure for registry keys. Does anyone have any ideas as to what i can do? I'm at a loss and can't think of any thing else to try.

Local Network Service Memory Footprint And Services

I've just upgraded from windows xp to windows 7 and i'm examining what has been installed and trying to remove things which i dont use.

For example i have removed all drivers i dont use or need (like qos) from the network device.

Yet i have services like ssdp running - strangely enough i know exactly which devices i have on the network and the computer is directly attached to all of those and should in theory not need to have any discovery services running.

How can i manage which services are running and control what exactly ia being run on my computer network ?

I notice the local network service has a foot print of around 100mb regardless of wether i'm connected to the internet or not - i cannot understand why this service has such a large foot print. How do i control what is being run in this service, is there any way to stop the service from running and only start it if i need to use the network ?

I also wish to stop tcp/ip helper service from starting as there is no reason why anyone shold need echo requests from my computer, i could disable this by uninstalling the driver, is there anyway i can do this ?

As far as i understand i dont need ssdp, ntfs, tcp/iphelper, dtc, fdphost, grouppolicy client, homegroup provider, network list, nla, ftp server, windows connect wifi (i dont use wifi), windows media network sharing, .

Some of the other services look doubtful to me as well.

How can i reduce these services which i certainly dont need at the moment ?
