Deny Permission On Drive C:

I was tinkering with group and users policies when i accidentally assigned "deny" permission to "full control" on the c: root folder to the "users" group. Now, since c: is the drive where windows is installed, my sysop is pretty screwed up;even as administrator i cannot access any file on that drive, cannot install almost anything and more. Is there a way to restore the permissions on c: without reformatting and reinstalling? Please keep in mind that being c:  the system drive i cannot install anything like msi or msu packages. I think im going crazy.

How To Get Full Control Of Administrator Rights?

User accounts -how can i get full control of administrator rights? My son gave me a new laptop & the only thing that he had done on it was. I to fill in his user a/c (i am not sure if he had it as admin or standard use, i. T is an assus running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. The 1st thing that i did was to fill in my user a/c and put myself as administrator and then i deleted my sons a/c, i then deleted trend micro security that came with the laptop and loaded avg (as i had on my old laptop running xp), i then loaded firefox to enable me to get wot (web of trust) & then i deleted firefox as i did not want it as my web browser, i then downloaded drivers from hp to enable me to load my printer which i did through the cable & this worked, i then tried to load the software for the printer & at the end of the installation a box came up telling me that this software cannot be installed using the "run as" command & to logon as user with admin privileges (which i was already logged on as), i then tried to install an artwork programme which it did but when i tried to access it i was told that requested registry access is not allowed. After all this i really wished i stayed with xp anyway i started to search the microsoft forum for any answers & i got a lot about uac & i saw a posts answer recommending a download from itknowledge24 this being uac controller tool v1. 0, i downloaded it & the icon for it was put on my taskbar but this has now disappeared, i am not a newby on computers but neither am i a geek, there seems to be a lot of people with similar or the same things that i am experiencing, i just want to know how i can get full control of administrator rights on my computer to allow me to do what i want as i could do on my xp, incidentally i never ever got any infections or malware on my previous laptop.

Permissions For Mapping C: Drive

Home network includes a vista machine and a 7 machine. I normally map the c drive of each machine to each other with a drive letter. I have mapped external drives on one machine to the other just fine. When i try to map the "c" drive i get a permission denied. Something happens if i try to map c:usersbruce. Bruce is my one and only user and is system administrator. I have gone to sharing and set everyones permission to full control with no luck. What do i have to do to see the c drive from one machine on the other.

Access Denied On Usb Drive After Removing Permissions

I accidentally removed all the access permissions from my external usb drive, after i had already taken full ownership of the drive, and now it shows me the drive icon and letter "e:", but states that access is denied when opening. Even the "security tab" is gone from the drives properties.

I was trying to change permissions to include inheritable ones, and i hit the wrong button to remove i think(i was stupidly moving too quickly through all the options, my fault), and after that i was no longer able to access the drive. I have thousands of files on this drive! Please help, anyone? The drive still shows up within windows explorer as e:, and disk management shows it as a healthy (primary partition).

Update: found the fix, thank you lord! I tried going into safe mode just in case, and it worked! Go into safe mode, and login with an administrator account. From there you will be able to right click on the drive and have the "security tab" working again, where you can take ownership and add permissions back!

I Get Drive Full Error When The Drive Is 90% Unused

Reported used space on drive c continues to climb, but no data is actually added; ultimately i get drive full error when the drive is 90% unused. I recently upgraded to windows 7 from vista home premium (64 bit each). Other than that, i don't believe there has been any hardware or software changes in months. My c drive (sata ii, ntfs format) has a capacity of 500 gb, although i don t have more than 60 gb of material on it, which is the amount reported on bootup.

However, after some usage, the hard drive "appears" to be adding data at the rate of 50 gb an hour, as if some video is being recorded to the hard drive, which it is not. In fact, if i disconnect from the internet, the reported disk usage still continues to climb. Within a day, i get a disk full error and i cannot save anything. In other words, if i right click on the drive c icon after booup, then click properties, i see that the drive will be 60 gb used, or a11% of so, but an hour later it will report drive use at 20%, or 100 gb, and an hour after that it's showing 150 gb of hard drive use, etc.

If i re-boot and then check the hard drive usage again, properties will report only the actual 60 or so gb of use, but an hour later, i'm back up to 100 gb and so on until disk full appears again and i can't save a simple word document. Ideas on what is causing this?

Hard Drive Full In Win 7

Recently i bought windows 7 home edition and upgraded my desktop and my wifes laptop. On my computer i kept my old folders from vista and did the first install selected. The only problem i had was i had to upgrade my video driver. However my wife's laptop i chose the second option and did a totally new install. Now her hard drive is in two places. C and d drive. The c drive has 230 gig free but the d drive is about full. Because of the partition now i can't put windows office on her laptop because it says not enough memory.

Does anyone know how to make this problem go away or to combine both hard drives?

Installing New Applications, The Drive Is Full

I just recently updated to windows 7, i'm trying to install new applications but won't let me because it is saying the recovery (d:) is full and is a red bar. To the left there is the (c:) drive, which is blue and has more than enough memory. I was wondering how i can fix this?

Also i looked this question up and on this forum it is saying to go to the (1)regedit option, (2)navigate to the following location hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversion and changing the programfilesdir. I do the first two parts but when it says to look for the programfilesdir. To the right, its not there.

Can someone please help?

1t External Drive Full After Scheduled Backup

I have a 1t external drive. The backup is half that & scheduled for each monday evening. 2 mondays. Full drive. Now what? Am i missing something? I would think the backup utility would do a comparison of the data on the main system and the backup and make them match each time the utility is run. If it does not work this way, how can i use the back up utility? Do i have to go in each week and remove the earlier back up manually?

Pop Up Shows Recovery Drive D Full

Recovery drive d full, i have a dell inspiron 545 laptop that came with windows vista and i upgraded it to windows 7. I just bought this computer in november and ever since i installed windows 7 i get pop-up messages every few minutes that say recovery drive d is full click here to free up space. Every time i try that, it doesn't work. I had a new hard drive g set up and also my c drive has lots of space but when i try to send folders or do anything with them, it says that i need administrator permission.

It also won't allow me to change and allowances because i need administrator permission. I have looked at other answers to the same question but these answers don't work for me. I have tried the following steps:

1. Click the start button.
2. Type diskmgmt. Msc in the search box and press enter .
3. In the disk management window, right-click the recovery partition.
4. Click change drive letter and paths.
5. Click remove. When i try this, i get two messages that stop me from being able to select remove.

The first one is from disk management and says, "some programs that rely on drive letters might not run correctly. Are you sure you want to remove this drive letter?" I click yes because it does not let me close out. After i click yes to that, i get one from virtual disk manager and it says, "assigning or removing drive letters on the current boot or page-file is not allowed. "What do i do? Please give me an answer that is not the same! It doesn't work for me!

Hard Drive Full After Sleep Mode

Problem occurred after upgrading from vista to windows 7.coming out of sleep mode, or logging in after computer left running unattended for several hours, c drive is full. Going into sleep mode/log off, c drive has 377/456 available. Have changed to dynamic drive and eliminated other partitions. Did not fix problem. No error codes. Restart clears up the problem and c drive goes back to normal space available.

Some additional information:

If computer left running and in lock-up problem occurs over time.

Normal steps taken to fix: defrag, minimized services, ran troubleshooter etc. Have run virus scans/spyware scans etc. Have searched forums for similar issue. Found something in vista forum regarding system restore taking up available drive space. So i have set maximum shadow storage to 10gb. Won't know for a while whether this fixed the problem. I doubt it though, because default max shadow storage was set to 30% = '40gb and problem was consuming 377gb.

I traced the offending files to the pc tools application internet security and/or registry mechanic in the common files subdirectory. There was an xmlfile in there that grew until all available drive space was consumed. I tried to get support from pc tools but all they suggested was downloading the current application versions, which i did, but to no avail.

I was at first unable to delete the file because it is in use when the apps are running in background. However, by changing the settings to turn them off at bootup, and using the disk cleanup application below, i was able to delete it.

Full D Recovery Drive Disk Space Warning

I'm having a somewhat similar problem as a previous poster but. Have a newer computer and i upgraded from vista home premium to w7 home premium . My backup d drive is full . I guess the backup has not removed former backups . Now processing is slower and i worried about a total freeze. I used the disk manager and tried to add space onto my d from c but only ended up with an unallocated partition of 20g's .couldn't figure out how to add to d.

In the previous solution " press a special key combination when the computer starts, you can use the recovery partition to restore the computer to the way it was when it was new. " Would that remove windows 7(don't want to do that" or. Do i have to remove the partitions letters for the d? Would that just make it one big c drive? . Would that effect computers performance? How can i get that unallocated partition back to c . Or to d? Sorry for being so wordy but i could sure use some help.

Security Permissions

I just upgraded from vista home premium 32 bit to windows 7 professional 64 bit. Before i did this i copied a massive number of files to a external usb drive. Once i got w7 64 bit installed and opened the external drive, where i put all the files, i can't see the files. The new w7 user is part of administrators. Administrators has all permissions set. When i tried to apply administrator permissions to the entire external drive i get nothing. How do i get my new w7 user to see all the files on the external drive? On all my external drives?

I guess i have no option but to re-format the hard disk and reload everything which will take at least three days. Seems like the days of early windows are back! I seem to have lost quite a few administrator rights which is a real pain. How can i reset them as i am the only user on this computer and because i have lost them i can't update my web sites. Outlook will not let me import my old . Pst file.

Administrator Permissions / Privileges

Another new computer running windows 7. I'm pleased with windows 7 but have encountered the problem of being owner and administrator account but there are privileges not allowed. The error reads "cannot import c:usersdocumentsieopen. Reg: error accessing registry. " I have used this script before on a windows xp computer and had no trouble at all. I am asking someone to help me change the administrator privileges so i can add to the registry. Like the answers i read it is hard to believe a computer with me as administrator doesn't have these privileges.

Reset All User Permissions To Default

How to reset all user permissions to default? I accidentally stopped a user permission change task and now my system is all messed up, programs won't load correctly after reboot, etc. . I can't change the permissions back because it tells me that i do not have access to certain folders. When i try to find these folders to change them manually, for some reason they are not visible any more. (I have show hidden files to show them). I tried a system restore and the restore points are corrupt, so, i have been looking for a way to reset all permissions to default or factory setting if you will.

Is there any way to reset all permissions to default without going one by one?

Security - Total Loss Of Permissions And Access

I have been trying to work this one out on my own for over a week now. I have a pretty good idea that my computer is being used through remote desktop. My administrator rights have been trumped and i can't access important parts of my computer systems. I have tried a ton of the advanced prompts in attempts to regain rights over group policy. I didn't make the disks for a recovery, i know, what your thinking but i have only had this computer a couple of months.

Now after doing much reading about the mechanics of my computer i now realize my error. Bottom line is i need to know if there is anyway to get rid of the rif raf running my computer systems. I also have had a ton of stuff installed in my system that i don't recognize at all. (In the device manager) at times i have had my internet adapters disappear and after painstaking hours finally found a way to retrieve them. I am by no means an expert on computers but know enough to navigate it well, so if someone could help with instructions on how to clear all this out.

I know how they breached my system so once their out i know what i have to do to keep it that way but i just am struggling with getting this all fixed. I don't have a ton of money or a debit card to order the disks either. So any help or advice that i can get for free would be greatly.

I am at my wits end with this computer and am about to throw it out the window not really but, i can't take too much more, it took me all night to figure out why i couldn't get online just so i could come here and get this typed out. I look forward to any suggestions.

Folder / File Permissions In Properties Tab

I have a particular program that will not start because i do not have write permissions for the folder, sub-folders, and files associated with the program. Going to the properties tab reveals that the folder is read only. I uncheck the box but can't seem to make it a permanent change. It always comes back up as read only. I have gone into every imaginable edit/advanced tab possible and given permissions to every possible group i can think of, yet despite the fact that every kind of permission possible is enabled and visible, i still can't uncheck the read-only box permanently and i still get "you do not have write permissions" from the program. I have tried changing ownership, running as administrator, and yet no progress on this problem.

Reset Security Settings / User Permissions To Default

I replaced my winxp computer with a new windows 7 machine this weekend and i'm still getting my feet wet with the new os. I tried to download and install a game, but i kept getting error messages indicating that i didn't have the proper rights. The solution ended up being to set the uac settings to zero. Before i got there, i made some unfortunate attempts to change permissions on the c: drive that got stopped part way through due to errors popping up.

Is there a way to set my permissions all back to default without recovering back to before the changes were made? There would be quite a bit of work (downloaded programs, rearranging files after the transfer from my old machine, etc) lost if i just use the recovery tool.

Error - Program Doesn't Have Permissions To Modify Destination Folder

I installed windows 7 32 bit (accidentally). I am now trying to install 64 bit (from download) and after unpacking i get the error that the program doesn't have permissions to modify the destination folder or something like that. Any ideas? I also tried to burrow down into the unpacked folder and run the 'setup' but it told me i was trying to install the 64-bit version over the 32 bit version, but i thought i was doing a 'clean install' and not an upgrade.

Taskbar Getting Full

I think, at least for me, i have found one thing about windows 7 that i am unhappy about; the quick launch task bar. With xp i could put as many programs on my bar as i wanted. When the 'visual' space got full then you could click on a little arrow and the rest would pop up in a little window. Unfortunately 7 doesn't seem to have that. So far the only way i have found to increase space was to increase the size of the the task bar from one line to multiples.

I don't loke a fat task bar. I like the thin one. Takes up less space on the monitor and i like to be able to view as much as i can without scrolling to much. Ergo. Thin task bar. So my question is. Is there any way to get the task bar to pop up the little window with the rest of my icons?
