Corrupted Hard Drive

I tried to upgrade my toshiba laptop from windows vista to windows 7 and it went into a continuous reboot loop and then destroyed my hard drive. I replaced my hard drive and then tried using the windows 7 upgrade for full installation and it seemed to take, but it didn't give me a chance to put the product key in and now it's asking for the product key(which i tried) and saying that i have 24 hours to put a full version product key in or i can't use my windows. What can i do? Please let me know soon.

Bios Install / Corrupted Hard Drive

I need help. I've been trying both disks to boot from cd-rom. And they are both not reading at all. I have tried disabling caches, and different boot priorities. I cannot go into windows itself because of "blue screen of death".
Although, i can get into command prompt with windows 98 on the other hard-drive.

-Windows xp corrupted(blue screen of death)

-Cd-rom drive does not read windows 7 disk(went through bios)

-Windows 98 command prompt works(but can not boot into safe mode/normal mode due to missing information)

-Tried both 32-bit/64bit windows 7 disks

Can anyone help? Been at this for 2 hours now, and i cannot find anyone with the right information. Im stumped.

Upgrading Existing Hard Drive To Ssd Hard Drive

I have recently purchased a laptop with one hard drive slot. I want to change the existing hard drive slot to a ssd. My laptop came with windows 7 pro pre-installed (no disk supplied). When i purchased the machine i created the windows recovery disk.

I would like to know if the upgrade is as simple as:

1) removing the current 500g hard drive
2) installing the new new ssd
3) running the recovery disks to re-install my copy of windows 7 pro or am i missing something?

Upgrade On New Hard Drive Because Of Failed Hard Drive

Anyway to upgrade on a new hard drive because of a failed hard drive with vista on it? I had a pc that came with a pre installed version of vista home 32 bit, however my hard drive has just totally failed, is there anyway that i'll be able to just get the upgrade version and install it on my new hard drive, or as i beleive to be the case, will i have to get the full version of windows 7. My pc didn't come with any sort of vista install disc.

As i said im fairly certain i know the answer and its that i get a new hard drive and will have to get the full version of 7 but just wanted to check with people who know far more on the subject than i do.

Bootable Flash Drive Or Hard Drive To Install Win 7

estimating windows 7 wim file sizes - ufd too small for image. I was trying to capture awim file for windows 7 to a bootable ufd, but the 16gb ufd was too small. I reran and directed the capture to a usb hard drive. Is there a tool to estimate the ufd size required? Is the fat32 format a constraint? Can i build a bootable usb hard drive and capture the image to it so that if i boot from the usb hd instead of the ufd? Can i install from a usb hard drive instead of the ufd? Then i would not be limited to the usb size of 16gb or 32gb.

Can't Eject Usb Hard Drive, Drive Always In Use

I have a 500gb maxtor onetouch 4 external usb backup drive that is set to do weekly backups with windows backup. This works great except that everything and their grandmother wants to spin the hard drive up whenever possible. This is not an ideal situation: with exception to backup, this drive is not used for anything. So i had a great idea, i'll keep the drive unmounted until i need to backup which then a newly created scheduled task would mount, backup and unmount when done! Well, turns out, windows doesn't think so. And this makes me a sad panda.

Hard Drive Not Available

I did an upgrade from vista to windows 7 home premium. I did a clean install, not an upgrade. I had 2 hard drives on the pc. At the start of the process, it asked it i wanted to partition drives. I responded yes and did the reboot from the disk. Each hard drive had 2 partitions under vista. I wanted to move to 1 partition under windows 7. It allowed me to delete the virtual drives and proceeded with the install. Everything when fine from there without any errors.

When i check my computer, only 1 of the drives is available. I went to device manager and the controller for the 2nd drive is there. It says it is working properly. I tried updating the driver and it said i had the latest driver. I checked the tab that shows drive statistics and it is blank. At the bottom there is a populate button. I clicked it and it displays the statistics for the drive correctly. It doesn't make it available. If i exit and come back in the statistics are blank again. I have done reboots and it is still not available under my computer. How do i get windows 7 to see this drive?

Hard Drive Score

I had 2 older hard drives running at 7200rpm in sata raid 0 mode and installed win7 64bit. Score was 5. 9. So i went and bought 2 new hard drives, still seagate but with 32mb cache, 500gb. Firstly i installed win7 on 1 drive and still have a score of 5. 9. Then i installed it on both new hard drives using raid 0 mode again and the score was still 5. 9. How do we get a higher score with this thing? All else is above 7 on my system but just hd's are lacking. What can i do?

Hard Drive Switch

I am about to get a replacement laptop due to issue, my query is the following. I currently have windows 7 ultimate 32bit, my new system comes with windows home premium 7 64bit. Can i just swap the hard drive from my old system to the new system and update drivers for the hard ware etc or will all programs be a mess and i would be better just to transfer all data and lose the ultimate version (which was an upgrade from vista ultimate 32bit)?

Partition Hard Drive

I got a new pc with windows 7 64-bit. The c drive has 578 gb of free space. I want to partition it so the c drive has about 100gb, and then my data drive will have 478gb. When i use the shrink volume utility in computer management, the most i am able to shrink the c drive is about 302gb. That will put the c drive at 276 gb, but i would like to get it down to around 100gb. Do i need to buy some partition software to do this or is there another way to try this in windows.

Mbr On New Hard Drive

I had vista on my hard drive but then when i wanted to move to windows 7 i also added a new hard drive. But when i installed windows & i left the old hard drive in the computer. Now i think my mbr is only on my older hd with the vista on it. I want to reformat the old hd so i can use it as a back up drive. But it won' t let me.

I tried using the start up repair tool. Tried bootsect /nt60 all. Not sure if i did that right.
My windows 7 is on drive c: with whats left of vista on drive d:. Also would love it if i didn't toast all my data on my new hd.

Replacing Hard Drive

I installed windows 7 ultimate full retail version a few months ago from vista and haven't had any issues with it and am glad i purchased 7. However recently i'm starting to think my hard drive might be on its way out, its very noisy and i've had a couple of lock ups.

Ideally i'd like to buy a new (better) hard drive and start again with a fresh install but i don't know if im aloud to do that. Will it allow me to install windows 7 on another hard drive when all the other parts are the same? Sorry for the basic question but obviously i want to make sure whats what before going ahead, or before my hard drive dies lol.

Cannot Access Hard Drive

I installed windows 7 dual-boot with vista ult 64-bit. Not a problem, . Both versions boot and run. However i have had installed 6 sata drives. Vista recognizes and access's all 6 in explorer and device manager. Windows 7 however recognizes all 6 in device manager but will only display 5 in the computer drive explorer view. There is no method to access the (actually 5th sata) drive. It cannot be accessed by any program i've tried so far. (Xp also recognized and accessed all 6 drives when i used it. )

I have a asus rampage formula motherboard, 4 wd 320 hd drives, 1 corsair sshd 6th in sata chain (windows 7 installed on it)
750 wd hd the 5th sata which is not accessible.

8 meg corsair ram 1000 watt ps asus 4850 video card. Running in non raid mode for the moment. I am not impressed with 7 especially since being screwed by the lack of the ult upgrade option

(Code 10)", in devices and printers it shows as "unspecified" status "needs troubleshooting". I have updated drivers and that hasn't worked either. Any suggestions?

Hard Drive Not Showing Up

Just built my first computer. I set up my drives as follows: booting up from ssd set up as sata1 on mobo and it shows in bios. Storage drive set up as sata2 which also shows up in bios. These two drives also show up in device manager, ssd first, storage drive second. When i go to "my computer" the only hard drive i see is the ssd, c drive as it should be. My e drive should be the storage drive. It's not there. Instead it's my dvd drive that shows up as my e drive. One thing i didn't do is format the storage drive. I tried to do that after the fact thinking that will solve my problem. Only thing is, i don't know how to do it since the drive doesn't even show up!

Erasing Hard Drive

I'm planning to wipe my system to factory settings by erasing the hard-drive. All my games, personal information, music ect. I can get back, so i don't need to back them up. My concern is if windows 7 will be there, or if i can install it. You see when i first turned my computer on, windows 7 was already there and set up was a breeze. However, since i'm starting over, i'm guessing windows 7 won't be there anymore. I have my product key, but is there a cd i need or something?
I do have 2 cds that came with my computer that raises questions.

One is a cyber power cd that says: "windows 7 home premium" (which i currently have) but it also says: "the software included on this recovery media was pre-installed on your hard drive at the factory and may only be used for backup and recovery of your cyberpower, inc.computer system. Performance of the software is the sole responsibility of cyberpower, inc. "

The other is my asus motherboard cd that clearly states in bright colors "windows 7 ready!" I did not have to use either of these cds when first booting up my computer, nor have i ever used them.
So will i have to use either of these cds? Or should my computer boot up again like it did before?
I'm not sure if this is enough information, let me know if theres anything else i should include.
This is the link of my computer too: http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=n82e16883229159

Blank Hard Drive

I just had a new hard drive installed on this pc. I asked the tech to install windows 7 instead of vista. Windows 7 is over overwhelmingly great in every aspect! The graphics, sounds, music and pictures are everything one could even hope to have. My main concern is when microsoft takes windows 7 rc from my hard drive - what am i going to end up with?Nothing? A blank screen? Anyone and everyone who might know what i should do, please answer this as it does have me worried. Should i put another version of windows on the pc now or just wait for the sale of windows 7?

Sony said to order their recovery disc set for 40. 00. They promote windows 7 all over their site. Her son thought this was alright. Sony wants 50. 00 for help, the computer is just over one year old. Sony said this computer will not! Run (7). I need to reformat the hard drive from the recovery disc to work.

Windows xp will not see the hard drive to reformat and 7 will not let a older version over wite it.microsoft says they have no help for me because 7 has not been released yet. I have had hours on the phone with sony and microsoft all they want is more money. I will never buy a sony product again! Does anyone know what to do?

One Hard Drive Not Recognized

I have 3 drives in the following configuration before installing win 7 rc:

  1. 120gb drive with xp 64 sp2 (used as a c drive)
  2. 120gb drive with vista 64 (used as d drive)
  3. 320gb drive used between them for data (used as e drive). Both oss could see the 320gb drive.

Did a clean win 7 rc install on the vista drive (replacing vista and all). Now, i can not see the "e" data drive when booted in win 7, but when i do a defrag, the defrag program (from accessories) sees the drive though not as a drive letter. Xp64 can still utilize the data drive as well. Please let me know what specific info i need to share with you if necc.

Second Hard Drive Is Not Accessible

I recently installed windows 7 64 bit onto one of my extra hard drives. However i was using xp pro before on my 1tb drive and i could not upgrade nor reformat due to the amount of data i needed to keep. I had no other drive to transfer my files to so i had to use another hard drive. When i try to access my 1tb drive it gives me an error saying "f: is not accessible access is denied". I have done everything i can think of as far as giving myself the permission to access the drive and whatnot so i'm really in the dark at this point. Formatting is not an option.

Help With Hard Drive Upgrade

My hard drive had only 37gb so i upgraded to a 320gb drive. I have cloned the old drive to the new drive. My problem is windows 7 shows the new drive size as 37gb. In the diskmanagementwhere it shows disk 0, disk 1, disk 2 i can see the correct drive size 320gb but the drive properties shows 37gb. When i select the right-mouse "format" menu the "extend volume" menu is grayed out. How can i make windows 7 remeasure the hard drive size so the full 320gb drive is available and the menu format->extend volume will work?

Install From One Hard Drive To Another

So what i want to do is fairly simple sounding, but i don't know how to accomplish it. I have the digital download version of windows 7 that was offered through the college student promotional pre-order deal. The specific file name is "win7-p-retail-en-us-x86.exe". I have another hard drive, it's twice as large as this one, and it's formatted clean, nothing on it. What i want to do is have both drives plugged into my pc, and install it from my current drive onto the new one.

Files Getting Corrupted

Okay i have had a new gateway computer from best buy since mid march. Many a times later a week or two on boot the computer wishes to run disk checker to to root out inconsistencies in the c drive partition? Well i allowed it to run and it began deleting windows files! Now i took it to best buy and they said they used a factory default disk at the expense of wiping all of the files i had accumulated and transferred. I made a factory default disc and i have had to use it many times now because windows 7 has failed to execute.

Now i  am unsure as of what causing this problem but i ran my trial of norton that came installed on it and my free avast antivirus as well as avg there are files that they cannot scan and the five files are all relating to the windows folder in the c: drive. Every one keeps telling me to factpry default the computer but i have five times and it wanted to dick check even after i ran it for a week with no internet connection. So its not a virus. If you have any idea as of how i can fix the problem i would appreciate it.

Upgrade With New Hard Disk Drive

Vista 32 bit home premium (oem) to windows 7 64 bit home premium (upgrade) with new hard disk drive my current setup: i have a 2 year old hp laptop which came with windows vista home premium 32-bit pre-installed (oem). I have a partition on the hard disk that will allow me to 'restore' my system. I also received the 'restore' dvd from hp. I do not have the os re-installation dvd as this was oem (and hp doesn't give these out with their laptops) - i only have the 'restore' dvd / partition on the hdd.

I bought the windows 7 64-bit home premium (upgrade version) last summer when win 7 was released but have not had the time / courage to use it yet! (Laziness too!). Current problem: my laptop hdd is only 160gb and its already too full. This is what i want to do: i would like to replace my existing 160gb hdd with a new 500gb hdd and move from my existing vista 32-bit os to the new windows 7 64-bit os. If at all possible, i would like to do a clean install of windows 7 on
The new hdd instead of upgrading from vista to windows 7. Can this be done?
