Easy Connect Option In Remote Access Not Working


I have a 64 bit hp m9600t that came with vista which eventually i upgraded to windows 7 (64 bit). I have norton internet security suite 2010. When i try to use the easy connect option in remote access, whether trying to ask or connect to assist to my wife's computer, as it checks network capabilities, i get the message "can't connect to the global peer-to-peer network. " This makes me have to use the email process which i should not have to do with two window 7 computers. My wife's computer there doesn't seem to be a problem using easy connect (except to my computer); she has a gateway gt5034 (32 bit) that was upgraded from vista to windows (32 bit).

Bar On Desktop For Easy Access To Email, Im

Just got a new laptop with w7 today, and i am loving it. There's one thing i was wondering if someone can help me find, though.

On one of the display computers at a store i visited, there was a bar at the top of the desktop with buttons for easy access to mail and im (and, i believe, a couple of other programs, but i can't remember which). It was not the taskbar just moved to the top - looked completely different. I thought it might be a gadget or something, but i can't seem to find it listed anywhere.

Can anyone help me figure out what this is and how i might get it on my computer? I know that i could just pin the messenger buttons to the taskbar, but i'm still trying to figure out what all i want to put there, so as to not let it get too cluttered.

Cannot Connect To Remote Computer

I haven't been able to connect to my remote computer at work since friday morning. The error says 'this computer can't connect to the remote computer'. The vpn is working fine. I just changed from norton to avg and the firewall settings allow for it ok. What could be wrong? The server at work caused problems for a few people there when they tried to log on friday morning but i don't know if the server is the source of my problem. The it guy there is no help and i am basically on my own.

Remote Desktop Cannot Connect

I have an office computer running windows 7 professional being the host and my home computer is running windows 7 home premium and for some reason when i try to access my work computer from home i cannot connect. It will not go through at all. I have a netbook running xp home service pack 3 and have no problem gaining access to my work computer. Why am i having this issue with windows 7? How can i fix this issue so that my home computer can access my work computer?

Remote Access

Hi, my wife recently purchased a new dell computer with windows 7, we use it for personal and professional use. The problem we are having is. We remote access into our office using a global vpnclient with sonicwall. When her laptop computer is directly connected to the server at home via an ethernet cable she can connect to the office with no problem. However when attempting to connect with our wireless internet through the wireless router she is unable to make the connection to the office. She has full use of the internet and everything else while using the wireless connection just no ability to connect to the office.

The vpn client says she is connected to the office network but when connecting directly to one of the computers via the wireless route, it is unable to make the remote desktop connection, while the hard connection with the ethernet cable has no problem whatsoever. We have quest for our home internet, i misspoke when i said server at home it is directly connected to the modem. We are using a:cisco-linksys wrt54g2 wireless-g broadband router wireless router. To the best of my knowledge there is no difference in special ports that are open between wire and wireless. Where should i check for a difference?

Remote Access Xp Pro

I am on a network at the office, i can have been able to connect and access my work computer from my laptop while i am in the office. I have been trying to get remote access so that i can work at home on my pc as well as out of the office on my laptop. I have administrative rights at all computers involved so that is not a problem. I am also the most computer literate person here so i can not get help from anyone else. The computers at work are xp pro and my laptop and pc are both 7 pro.

Home Premium Remote Access

I'm running windows 7 home premium, is it possible to setup remote access or do i need to upgrade to windows 7 professional? Microsoft's web page that compares premium, professional, and ultimate states the following is for all 3:"access you photos, movies, and videos from a pc running windows 7 anywhere in the world". This would indicate remote access should work from windows 7 premium but have not been able to get it to work. Is there some "trick" or is this a mis-statement?

Hijacked Harddrive Via Remote Access

A family member has "hijacked" my hard drive when i was using their internet service. They established themselves as administrator so they could access my hard drive files on a whim, and was even able to view every email i wrote and received.

There is an icon in my-networks titled with their computer name. I am not able to delete it, because it says i don't have authorization to access files or the server and to contact administrator. How do i block them from accessing my computer hard-drive, if i can't delete the connection? I have moved to another town, and am no longer associated with their internet service.

Question 2: can they access my hard-drive via a cell phone with internet service? (I also suspect they were monitoring my cell calls too) i no longer have the cell service, i have changed all passwords, used my firewall to block unknown or unsolicited ip's.

Remote Access Home Premium / Pro

I am about to purchase windows 7 pro. My questions is, it is of my understanding that you can remotely access with windows 7 pro your computer at home from work with 7 pro on your home computer. I, however, also have a new laptop that came with windows 7 home premium on it. Would i be able to access the laptop with the 7 home premium as well from work through the desktop that has the 7 pro on it at home. I have a wireless network as well linked to my desktop that my laptop uses in case that would be a determining factor.

Cannot Connect To Mshome Network, But Get Internet Access

Ok, i was trying to allow a network drive to be used offline on my wireless hp laptop running win7. I have had connectivity to the internet, printers, drives and other pcs for over 4 months. All of a sudden, i cannot connect to the mshome network. I still get internet access, but i can not connect to my drives, my printers or my other pcs. I shut off the firewall and disabled the virus protection. It lists the devices in the map, but it will not connect.

Is there anyway to force a connection to my local home network :mshome: via win7? At least in xp you can set up a home network connection. All win7 seems to have is the home group.

Error - You Dont Have Sufficient Access To Your Computer To Connect

I am running win 7 home premium via parallel desktop 5. 0 on my mac and am trying to add a printer using bonjour service. In the past, when i was using the win 7rc, there was no issue, however this time i keep getting the error "you don't have the sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer". Can anyone help me in diagnosing this problem. I know this issue is not with parallel setup, as the rc is working fine.

Ipv6 - No Internet Access - Laptop Cannot Connect To Wireless Internet

My laptop has connected with the wireless router before and had internet. But now it says its connected but says error when pulling up a webpage. When i go to wireless network connection the ipv4 has internet but the ipv6 does not.

Hdmi - No Option For Audio

I am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit and i am having problems with my hdmi port/plug. Before this problem, the hdmi was working perfectly. Once i plug in my hdmi, the video appears on the tv and not the audio. So i go to the sound options in control panel, check to view disabled and disconnected devices, but there is no hdmi audio out option. The tv is set to receive hdmi, i've downloaded all the drivers, and i'm frustrated to my wits end.

Power Option Does Not Display

I recently brought a new laptop which runs windows 7 home premium. I use it either at work, university or at home (where i attach an external monitor) and so often need to change the power settings depending on whether i am running on battery or not etc. However recently when i either click the power icon in the status bar (bottom right) or through the control pannel nothing happens, not even an error message. This happens regardless of whether its power by mains or battery, has the external monitor attached or not, or is connected to the internet or not. The icon in the control pannel has also changed to a file image instead of the power options icon. How do i fix this?

Auto Hide Taskbar Option

Auto-hide option will not retain it's "hide" setting. I can set it to auto-hide, click "apply", click "ok" go ahead and continue working on my laptop and auto-hide stays active. "Shut down". Turn
On later. Desktop comes up and the the taskbar is out of "auto hide" mode.

Remove Vista Boot Option

Since installing windows 7 over my vista os i get a boot manager screen asking me which os i want to load, windows 7 or vista. I thought the upgrade would eliminate vista as an option. I didn't partition and install. I was doing a straight upgrade. How can i remove vista as a boot option? Is there anything else i need to be aware of that can cause a problem? I don't want to leave any items that will cause a conflict. I am a little but not hugely computer saavy.

Sleep Option Problem After Upgrade

I have an hp pavilion dv6500 (though it says dv6000 on the case) that i bought in june 2007. I recently upgraded to windows 7 professional (32) from vista ultimate. Ever since i installed windows 7, the computer won't sleep-it's not even an option. The option on the start menu is grayed out, and when i go to edit plan settings, there are no options to put it into sleep. When i go to advanced power settings, the sleep node only has "hibernate after" and "allow wake up timers. " Under "power buttons and lid" the drop down menus only offer hibernate, shut down, and do nothing.

It seems to me that this is some sort of hardware/driver issue, but i have no clue how to solve it.

Clear Type Text Option

When setting up clear type text, the application will not save settings. My words are extremely blurry when i have the text size set at 100% and can only view text with the size set at 115% or higher. Changing the resolution only makes it worse. (I have computer set to recommended resolution status. )  Any idea on how i can get clear type to save my preferred settings?  Actually, clear type worked during initial set up but after recent windows updates clear type hasn't worked properly.

Upgrade Option Disc Is Not Working

I just started to install windows 7. I inserted the upgrade assistant disc and followed the directions. When it told me to eject the assistant and insert the operating system disc, i did, and again followed the directions. It said that i needed to complete the following task before the installation could continue. The task was to restart my computer so certain files could be changed.

It said to close out of the upgrade, restart my computer, then continue the upgrade. I closed out, took out the disc, restarted my computer, inserted the disc again, and nothing popped up like it did before. What's more, i can't find the disc under 'computer. ' what do i do to finish the installation and activate windows 7?

Can't Get Rid Of Multiboot Option At Boot

Can't get rid of multiboot option. Had installed win. Server 2003 on virtual pc then removed it, but multiboot is still there. I only want windows 7. The option for windows server is not even showing up in bcedit. It looks like there is only one choice. I even tried easybcd and it said there was only 1 entry and it is windows 7. Yet when i restart my machine it always presents a multiboot option with windows server being the top option. I have to click on windows 7 or it will try to boot into windows server (which is no longer present) and then waits for me to insert the installation disk to complete installation.

I don't want windows server anymore. It is not present in the control panel remove a program either. I don't know why it keeps trying to boot into it. Any ideas? Please use small words, i'm not that knowledgeable about the innards of windows.

Easy Transfer - Drives Other Than C:

My system is set up to have non-c drives for all user files. i.e. My documents and user file defaults go to "d", there is a swap file drive "s", and a images (software images, downloads) drive "i". Will wet copy everything (300 gb !) Or just the information on drive "c" which is about 20 gb? I just need to know how big an external drive to get my hands on.

Easy Windows Transfer

I upgraded from windows xp to windows professional. I used the easy windows transfer program and let it do its thing. I backed up the files to my western digital book. It transfered 329 gigs. When i went to transfer the file back to the computer it says there isn't enough space. Which is true it's only a 500 gig hard drive. Windows 7 said it would do a clean install but all the files are still in the computer i just can't use them. Do i have to format my hard drive then install windows 7 then bring my files back over? How do i get my files back over to the computer?

Windows Easy Transfer

I'm having problems with windows easy transfer (wet). I bought a new laptop with windows 7. The old laptop has vista home premium, which i updated to latest version. Both laptops are connected wirelessly to my netgear router. I can see each computer under the other's network. I want to transfer info from my old pc to the new one, but i cannot. I open wet on the old pc and get to the point where it tells me to get a key from the new pc. I cannot get a key from the new pc, because it prompts me to enter a key from the old pc. These two instructions are contradictory.

I got a key from the old pc and entered in the space on the new pc. The new pc is trying to connect to the old pc but cannot. After a while i get the error message:" wet cannot connect to your other computer. To complete the connection, you might need to install the latest version of wet on your other computer. " I  have done that and i still cannot connect. What do i need to do to connect my new pc to the old pc?

Easy Transfer Report

I recently bought a new pc with windows 7 already installed. I performed a windows easy transfer of most of my stuff from my old xp to the windows 7 pc with no fuss, except when it was installing/saving the transferred data, it asked me for my old pc's password. I didn't know it, didn't even know it had one and neither did my husband. We tried all the obvious ones, then just gave up and closed that window down. And the rest of the installation/saving continued. Now when i go to view the report of what was transferred, i am unable to open it as it keeps saying that an error has occurred, and do i want to continue running scripts.

Then a pop up box appears with the following message. "Windows easy transfer post migration application has stopped working". It then searches for a solution, then says "it has a problem that caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify if a solution becomes available". Then the report closes down and i cant view it at all. What can i do?

C Drive - Can't Open Access Control Editor - Access Is Denied

How do i unblock the c drive, when it says "can't open access control editor. Access is denied. " And "c: is not accessible. Access is denied. " I cannot access the ownership options on the c drive properties when i want to edit, and on the hidden administrator account, everything regarding the c drive is blocked as well!

Upgrade Option Program Website Error

I bought a copy of windows vista home premium 64x. When i go to the website and put in my product key it says i do not have a valid copy for update. That is jus tthe thing, i bought vista home premium 64 just to upgrade. I know it is valid because i bought the package from compusa brand new on 10/2/2009. I get validated updates and i have my copy registered. Any tips on how to get the website to accept my valid copy? I used caps and dashes exactly how it looks on my sticker.

I tried three times and then had to wait for two hours to try again. I can not get it to work. I am frustrated because i want my free copy. I paid for it when i bought my specific brand of vista. I bought the operating system "in the box". Please let me know what i should do.

Note; i did not buy the software from a computer manufacturer, i bought the system in the box. I realize this means i have to use the website located at; http://windows.com/upgradeoffer         however, it is not working. It keeps giving me an error screen. Help?

Disable Legacy Usb Option On Win 7

How to disable legacy usb option on windows 7? Installed a western digital my book essential external back up hard drive on a hp pavillion p6230y windows 7 , 64 bit home premium  system. With ext. Hd powered on the pc will not boot - getg flashing cursor in upper left corner. The pc is looking to the external hd as the boot drive. Western digital's solution was to disable legacy usb option in bios set up but that option could not be found, so they said i needed a bios upgrade. Called hp - as the external hard drive was not purchased from them they will not support any resolution attempt. So microsoft, how do i tell the pc not to look at the external hard drive (k) to boot but just the c drive? Pc boots just fine with the external hd powered off.

Easy Transfer Drive Mapping

I am having issues with an xp-win 7 upgrade. When i use wet utility it tries to install all my files onto my small c:drive. The original . Mig file comes from a computer with c: j: k: drives. The new comp just has c: and d:. Why isn't it giving me an option to map the drives when i upgrade? It tries to install on c drive then gives up when it runs out of space.

When i look at the map drive tab in wet it says 'no drives are available for mapping. ' i have tried using the same file on a vista laptop and easy transfer works perfectly - it gives me an option of where to install my files. I have tried renaming the d: drive on my win 7 machine to m and j to see if this would force east transfer to give me an option of mapping drives - but it hasn't worked.
