Error - Unknown Device - Usb Does Not Recognize Garmin Device

Just recently, windows 7 home premium addition has stopped detecting my garmin device. Other usb devices such as my ipod work fine. I was able to get it to detect the garmin only a few times, it would try to install the drivers but the drivers would fail to install. The garmin was working a few weeks ago. Below is a list of everything i have already tried:

Rebooting (after everything i try)
- Turning the computer off and leaving it unplugged overnight
- Completely uninstalling all drivers and software associated with the gamin.
- Manually installing drivers
- Uninstalling the unknown device and doing a search for new hardware
- Uninstalling the unknown device and doing a search for legacy hardware (this produces a device not functioning (code 10) error)
- Reverting back to a restore point before the last windows update

Please, any help would be very appreciated. I am decently computer savvy and have always been able to fix any problems that i have. This one has had me spinning my wheels for days.

Usb Device Fried By Win 7 Security

After plugging a usb device into my new windows 7 machine, i got a message saying that the drivers did not correctly install, and after that my device will no longer function at all. Even after unplugging the device, it will not power up.

This occurred within a few minutes of plugging it in. The device i was trying to use was a fisher price elmo phone that can be programmed using software you download from the manufacturer. I downloaded and installed the software without any problems, but after plugging in the device using a usb/micro usb (5 pin) cable, i got the aforementioned error message, and then the software told me that the phone was not connected. I disconnected the phone and discovered that it would no longer power on. I replaced the batteries, but nothing changed.

My father experienced the same thing with his gps unit.

Had strange phone call yesterday from someone saying they would solve program problems on a link up to them, i was asked to go into windows run and check the events in security applications, and there was warning triangles against certain programs. If i signed up with them they would solve all issues! How did they get our phone number, how did they know there was errors in the system(windows 7) how can i resolve those problems. The web site they sent me to was soc.com 321, became very concerned as they said they resolve all microsoft problems.

*.msi Not A Valid Win32 Application Error When Installing A Security Program

Whenever i try and install a security program i get the following: "*. Msi not a valid win 32 application". Noboby seems able to help. Vendors are all blaming another vendor. Meanwhile, i do not have any security on my computer. I am not terribly computer literate so please bear with me. I have rolled back, tried to run as an administrator, have downloaded software umpteen times (to satisfy vendors). This has something to do with microsoft installers. Anyone else had this problem?

Device Malfunctioned Error Code - 43 - Usb Device Not Recognized

I purchased a new computer with windows 7.initially my ipod worked fine with this computer. It still charges the ipod but nothing else. In addition it will not work on my old computer.

1. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled itunes.

2. I reset the device losing all of my music.

3. I have gone to device manager and the ipod shows up as unkown device. I have stopped the device driver and rebooted.

4. I have tried to have attached to my old computer update and i receive the exact same error and usb not recognized message.

5. Other devices work fine on the usb hub, in addition i have tried the other usb hub.

All of the above measures have failed. This all started when i was having problems updating my music to the ipod, and i chose the restore function on the summary page of the itunes software, with the device attached, and recognized. Since then nothing? Initially when the device was attached after the restore option was chosen, i got need to attach to a 2. 0 usb  high speed hub, error message? It is a 2. 0 usb high speed device. I have reviewed other questions in this forum, on apples forums, all with the same results, nothing.

Dvd Device Driver Blocked - Unable To Use Device Code 48

I get a code 48 message. I have an intel d945psn board that has run w2000 on a eide hard drive. I upgraded to windows 7 with a new sata hard drive clean install, but transferred files with pc mover. Now my dvd burner(s) don't work citing the infamous code 48 and saying that the software for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with windows.

Aren't cd/dvd device drivers pretty standard, and included with the bios?  How do i deal with that problem. I have tried to update drivers through "driver access", but the problem persists. The device doesn't even show up in windows explorer or my computer, but can be seen in device manager and on the cmos menu. The same is true of my second, identical sata hard drive. It appears that some of my important system drivers have been blocked.

Usb Hub Displaying As Device In Device Manager

Pretty much all my device connected to my usb hub used to show in device manager as separate devices. However, they now only show under the name "kevin o'connor" (the name of my zune). Open the device's properties and going to the hardware tab will show all the device connected via the usb hub.

Therefore, all the devices do in fact work, it's just a little bothersome to me, and the fact that i can't safely remove anything from the hub without having to eject the entire hub. Here's a screen shot that shows what the hub shows as: http://i34. Tinypic.com/34fxmp4.png

Win 7 Wont Recognize Second Monitor

Since the installation of windows 7 64-bit, i have not been able to connect my flat screen to my computer as a second monitor. I know how i am supposed to go about connecting the 2nd monitor and i had done it numerous times using windows vista 32-bit. When i right click on the desktop and go into screen resolution, it shows me a picture of a screen with a 1 in it and it has two buttons beside it; detect and identify. I assume if everything was working the way it should, a second monitor picture would appear when i press detect, but instead nothing happens.

I have a dell inspiron 1720, a panasonic 52in plasma, and i am using an s-video cable to connect the two. What i have read online suggests that it might be my video card driver's problem, but i dont know how to go about fixing this, if indeed it is the problem. Im not sure exactly which video card i have, and my computer just says its the standard vga graphics adaptor.

Win 7 Does Not Recognize Hard Drive

I am building two new computers and purchased two oem licenses of windows 7 home premium 64-bit. Both computers are using a biostar ta890gxb hd motherboard, amd phenom ii x6 1055t cpu, lg gh24 multi-optical drive, and 4 gb of kingston ddr3 1333 ram. The first computer was recycling a maxtor stm3320620as hard drive. This had been recently reformatted to ntfs, so essentially starting over from scratch. The second computer was using a brand new hitachi hd30500idk hard drive.

Upon booting up the first computer, i would get to the screen where i am to choose what hard drive to install on, but none are listed. The bios does show the hard drive properly. I tried going into advanced section to load drivers, but it can't find any drivers for the sata controller. I then followed advice i found when searching for a solution and i found how to get to the command line.

I am able to go to the c: drive. I was able to re-format the c: drive. After it was finished, i tried to go back in and it still does not recognize any hard drives. After a while, i gave up and tried working on the second computer. Upon booting up the second computer, i got to the screen for choosing the hard drive and it identified the hitachi hd. I was able to install the operating system and everything has been exactly what i was expecting it to be. S stated, they are identical except for the hard drives.

I have double checked all my connections numerous times on the first computer but everything checks out fine. It seems odd that i can access the hard drive in command line and in the bios, but the windows 7 installer doesn't recognize it. Any advice besides going out and purchasing a new hard drive?

Win7 Will Not Recognize Raid 0 Array

I can not get windows 7 to recognize my raid array.

To begin, this is a fresh install on an asus m4a78td-v evo m/b, amd phenom ii x4 955 3200 mhz, 4 gbs ddr3 memory, 2 western digital 2 tb wd20eads-00s2b0 sata 3g, and a benq dw1625 dvd burner. Nothing is over clocked and using stock video and sound.

When i install with a raid 0, 128 kb stripe block, fast init on, gigabyte boundary off, cache mode write through, and no use of the drivers for the raid array for the mother board as windows 7 ultimate x64, i can get to the point of the first re-boot and get a message of: windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. To install windows, restart the installation. If i restart, i get the same message.

Same setup, but this time i use the motherboard raid drivers downloaded from asus , ahcix64s. Inf, i get an error message of windows is unable to install to the selected location. Error: 0x80300001. So i partition the 3725. 9 gb raid to 1-100 mb system partition, 2047. 9 gb primary partition, and 1677. 9 gb unallocated and get the same message for each of the 3 drives as above. If i extend the 2nd partition of 2047. 9 gb, i get the message of: failed to extend the selected partition. [Error: 0x80042468].

Finally, if i delete the raid array and change the bios setting for the sata port 1-6 to ide, the install will complete, but without the raid 0 array. Please, what am i doing wrong or what do i need to get the raid 0 array?

Win 7 Wont Recognize Cd-rom

Ok, here’s the skinny.

I have a dell something.

Intel® pentium® 4 cpu 3. 20 ghz 3. 19ghz
3. 00 gb
32-bit operating system
Windows 7 home premium

My problem is that i am unable to use my cd-rom.

About a year ago my dc-rom took a dump and stopped opening so i just never used it. Well, about 2 months ago i upgraded from xp to win 7. The other day i needed to run an cd and decided to put in a new cd-rom. Took the old out and put the new in. Problem is that even though it is plugged in (long skinny data cable and what appears to be a 3-pring power plug) it won’t work. The cd-rom opens and closes but win 7 won’t recognize it.

Trouble shooting 101: yes, the cd-rom works. I took it out of this out of my last dell pc that it came in. The rom is a sonycd-rw crx216e. After discovering that it won’t work in this pc i put it back in the old dell. Plugged it in, tossed in a cd and bam! Works just fine. Took it back out of that old pc and put it in this pc and nothing. It should be noted the other pc is running xp.

So now i’m like ***. So, i decided to plug in the old cd-rom  that came w/ this pc that is broken and reboot. And win 7 still won’t recognize this one either.

Now i don’t know when i lost control of my cd-rom because i haven’t used it in so long. I don’t know if i lost it after installing win 7 or what. I do know i can’t get it to work now.

I’ve tried reading forums and can’t seem to find a fix. I even tried to run the built in win 7 troubleshooting program and it say’s it is not detecting an optical something or another drive. When i open my device manager it does not show any cd-rom installed.

I even tried going to dell and downloading the latest drivers for the rom, which was last updated in 2004, and running those. End result, nothing.

Anyone got any ideas?

Win 7 Does Not Recognize Usb Drive & Ipod

This has been really bothering me. Windows 7 works perfectly with my old programs after my upgrade. Only when i plug in my usb external drive and ipod touch, ipod video. It does not recognize it. I tried device manager and looking for it there, it does not show up. When i go on safe mode, "usb mass storage" shows up but i cannot update cuz it keeps saying it already has the best driver installed. When i look at "properties" it says there is no driver installed.

With my ipods, i tried stopping and restarting ipod service, apple mobile device, itunes. I tried reinstalling a newly downloaded copy of itunes at least 4 times. That does not work.

There is a registry fix for this on windows xp titled "windows xp cannot detect a usb flash drive, an apple ipod, or an external hard disk drive" but does not have one for windows 7. The xp fix even has a download fix for fixing the registry. Is there one also for windows 7. I am going through the trouble of installing virtual pc and xp mode just to use my devices.

Win7 Doesn't Recognize Iphone

I have a brand new laptop running the 64-bit windows 7. After installing itunes, when i plug in my first gen iphone, it triggers itunes to open, but then immediately causes itunes to freeze up. If i open itunes and then plug in the iphone, same thing - itunes still freezes. When i unplug the iphone, itunes unfreezes. Also, itunes works fine with my ipod. I've done quite a bit of troubleshooting already, following recommendations found on this site and on apple's site, including the suggestions found here:

http://social. Answers.microsoft.com:80/forums/en-us/w7hardware/thread/31631537-67ab-468b-810b-e083d9d726aa

Specifically, i have reinstalled itunes and related apple software, removed all pictures from the iphone so my laptop wouldn't recognize it as a camera, and made sure the computer is using the correct apple device driver. Nothing has worked. Also fyi, when i plug the phone in without itunes installed and look for the phone on device manager, it shows up as "apple iphone" under "portable devices. "

Once i install itunes and the correct device driver, however, it shows up as "apple mobile device usb driver" under the "usb controllers" heading. Nothing shows up under "portable devices, " "imaging devices, " or any other heading. I've now spent hours trying to solve this. Any advice?

Win 7 Wont Recognize Raid Arrays

I have constructed a new computer with compatible hardware. I purchased windows 7 home premium and it doesn't recognize the two raid arrays i have setup in both the bios and raid configurator. I have installed all of the latest drivers , firmware, and updates available for every piece of hardware and windows.

I have two raid arrays setup: (2) 250 gb in raid 1 (for windows 7) and (3) 1 tb in raid 5. When booted up, windows only sees the first 250 gb drive. When i enter disk manager, it sees all five drives, but has the second 250 gb and all three 1 tb drives as independent drives and are inactive. I can activate them, but they still remain independent and not as a raid array. The bios and the configurator see two drives: (1) at 250 gb and (1) at 1. 8 tb (which is correct in the raid setup).

Do i need to buy a higher version of windows 7? (Professional or ultimate) or am i missing something in windows?

Win 7 Does Not Recognize Belkin Usb Adapter

I performed a registry cleanup on my computer last monday using norton 360 with mixed results. The major problem i'm having is that i can't seem to connect to my belkin wireless usb adapter anymore.
I did a system restore, and an uninstall/re-install of the latest belkin driver software. The adapter does manage to connect on occasion, but returns to its inoperable state if i put the computer to sleep or try to do a reboot.

If i try a clean install, w7 typically tries to connect to the adapter but then it either says that the device isn't recognized or says there is no device at all. When i run a diagnostic, w7 recognizes the problem but it figures that i'm trying to connect through my ethernet cable and not via usb. I can't seem to make it point to the usb connection. Am i missing anything? Is there a manual fix?

Computer Cannot Recognize Usb Storage Devices

I am using a brand new hp with windows 7. The first time i plug any thumb drive or my external hard drive into any usb port my computer immediately recognizes it by name and i able to use files on it and save to it normally. When i safely remove it and come back the second time and plug it into my computer nothing happens. I go to my computer and see it is shown as "unknown device". When i use the "trouble shoot hardware devices" tells me it is not recognized and i get this message:

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

I have tried turning the computer off and rebooting but i still get the same message. I have used the update driver and get the message that the proper driver is installed. I have gone to the "windows 7 compatability center" and my simpletech 160 gb external hard drive is listed as compatible. Please tell me what i can do to make my computer recognize and allow me to use these devices. Without being able to use them so that i can do work at home and take it back and forth to school, i really have no need for the computer in the first place !

I am able to use all my external usb storage devices on xp at school as well as on an old laptop at home with no problem. The only problem i have is windows 7 apparently. Since i have tried three different usb plug n' play devices with the same result (each of which was recognized only the first time i plugged them in) it obviously is not the fault of the storage devices.

Is anyone out there?
