Cannot Map Nas Drive

I am trying to map a nas box that we use for automated back-ups and i get the message "the network name can not be found. 0x80070043".

The thing it we just connect by its internal ip address, not server, host or computer name. It says name can not be found, it doesn't have to find the name i am telling it the address. On xp & when we had win 2000 we just put 192. 168. 1. 220 and it would ask for name & password and then connected. I can browse our other computers and map a drive to them if i wanted but just not the nas box.

I can also see the web interface of the nas by putting that ip address in firefox, and it is working fine on our xp machines, so i know it is up and running. Its just on win 7 it will not connect. I am running build 7100.

Add Nas Shares To Index

I have a qnap nas with a number of network shares i'd like to add to the index. Under control panel > indexing options, the nas and any mapped drives are not listed, however an answer here indicates this may be due to an access right issue on the folder. Unfortunately the solution of adding system to the folder permissions doesn't work as the permissions on the nas are controlled by the nas itself (eg. , Adding mynasusername would work, but w7laptopsystem does not).

Is there a way around this? I have seen some symbolic link hacks, but from what i've read, it isn't bulletproof (ie. , Some actions such as printing don't follow the link properly and result in a file not found). I also do not want to make the shares available offline as i do not have the space on my hard drive to cache that much data.

It seems ridiculous that adding network shares requires all this hoop jumping - why aren't network locations available by default in the indexing options?

Nas Invisible In Network Map

I have 7 windows 7 computers networked via a gigabit switch and a verizon fios router. They all share access to an nas. 6 of the 7 display the nas just fine in the network map. The 7th, a netbook and the only one running 32-bit home premium instead of 64-bit professional, doesn't. I can access nas folders directly from the netbook using ip, but the nas doesn't show in the network map. More importantly it doesn't show as a backup location, so i can't backup that one machine.

Since the problem appears to be with the local security settings, how can the settings be adjusted when secpol. Msc is not provided in home premium?

Slow Boot Time When Nas Is Not On

I just recently built a new computer and installed win 7 professional 32 bit. I have a nas that is turned off because i think it is about to fail. Making all sorts of loud noises and so forth. When windows loads it stalls with a black screen for a good thirty seconds before taking me to the desktop. It also warns me that it cannot connect to that nas. Before i told windows that it was there it would immediately boot up. Is there any way to tell it to not try to connect to it? I know i can just disconnect it within the my computer screen but i didnt want to lose my drive mappings.

Can't Restore From Nas Drive Back

I used a nas drive to back up my computer with windows 7. My hard drive died-5 months old-. I have reinstalled windows 7 from the dvd. Now i wanted to restore my pictures and stuff. I opened up backup restore and found the nas drive but windows won't recognize the back ups? It say it could not find any backup sets. The folder i told it to look at is call backup sets with a date code. I have tried all the date and same thing. If i go to nas drive and look in the folders i can see files and folders in them but there is so many i can't find my pictures or emails. How do i make this work?

Can't Access Root Folder Nas Drive

Since i upgraded from vista to windows 7 i can't access my root folder on my network drive (nas) anymore. In vista when i choose network it displayed me all networks including my nas drive, there i could select it and it would forward me to the nas root. In windows 7 it doesn't show me to nas and if i tell to go to root likezelst it will give me a permission / access error. The only way for me is to map a sub-folder on the nas directly likezelstfolder1 etc. I wanna know if i can make windows 7 show me my nas drive again and being able to access it's root folder.

Win 7 Once Connected To Nas Drive Wont Recognize Upnp Devices

I have a laptop running windows 7 that once connected to a nas drive wont recognize upnp devices, is very slow to uninstall programmes, will not shutdown, and generally grinds to a halt. I have a western digital nas drive, an hp hdx18 laptop and a htpc connected together through a bt ethernet router. Every time i connect the laptop to the nas drive it starts to behave strangely.

1. It will not recognize any new upnp devices that i plug in such as external hard drives
2. The printer stops working - all print jobs are queued until after a reboot
3. Software uninstall can take a very long time
4. The machine will not shut down. It hangs on the windows shutdown screen with the blue circle spinning.
5. The machine seems to become unstable and slowly grinds to a halt.

The trouble started happening when i installed the wd software. However, i cannot be sure it was this that caused the issue as i was changing other software at the time. At the time i was running vista 64 home premium. I have subsequently upgraded to windows 7 x64 hoping that would fix it - no joy.

Further clues are that i have recently bought a htpc and installed windows 7 and the wd software. This works fine and does not show the same symptoms. I do suspect that the registry of the laptop may have some corruption (at least that is what free registry check software says - i have not bought any software to fix the issues). Do you have any idea what is wrong?
