Over Heating And Physical Memory Usage

I have 2 month old hp dv6-1217ax lap top with 4gb ram, i have just installed my windows 7 and now have a problem with over heating - the bios set the fan to be 'on' always which i have changed and i have also found that stacsv.exe (something to do with audio) was chewing up 50% of the cpu so i have ended that process - temporarily until i have to restart. This hasn't affected my audio but i have noticed that when i use the mute function on my laptop the little speaker indicator above the key pad is not turning red but the mute function is still working.

The other issue i am having is that my physical memory is running at a constant 35%? While not running any programs and i haven't been able to find a solution to this.

I have also asked a tech friend who has been in contact with hp regarding these issues and they knew as much as he did - nothing.

I have also been in contact with hp myself and they instructed me to download and install a bois ( winflash for hp notebook system bios (for notebooks with amd processors) " microsoft windows vista-based version f. 17) this basically put my machine back to the same settings as when i had originally when i did the win 7 upgrade. Still got the high cpu usage with the stacsv.exe.

Hardware Reserved Physical Memory

I have two pc. The first one is dell precision t3400 core 2 quad with 4gb ram. Diplay card is a nvidia quadro fx580 512mb. Windows 7 pro 32bit. Second pc is a self assembled i5 650 with 4gb ram. Display card is a nvidia geforce 8400 gs 512mb. Windows home premium 64bit.

I can't do rendering using artlantis render v2 on the dell system. The application either crash or freeze. There is no problem what so ever on the other system. From my observation, the dell system cannot go beyond 1. 7gb during rendering but on the i5 it went over 2gb without any problem.

Is this because of the 32bit and 64bit operating system?

Blue Screen - Physical Memory Dump

So, up until recently (november 18-20th) my laptop was working relatively fine. I had some updates from around the 10th that i hadn't updated with, and after having done so i began to receive physical memory dumps. My first solution was restoring to before i updated my computer, which worked. I reinstalled my updates after a good 4-5 hour session, but ended up with the bluescreen 10 minutes into a session shortly afterward.

I have looked at the thread from august, but those updates did not cause memory dumps. On the side, i removed the update causing a different bluescreen which i have yet to encounter, and i do not know if it is the on responsible for my dump (kb9xxxxx, lost the related forum). I am also trying to avoid testing this at all costs because i know the damage physical memory dumps can do to a computer. And somehow my windows vista question got put under windows 7?

Physical Memory Dump - Blue Screen

First post here so hope someone can help me. I have a brand new pc amd althlon ii x2 630 processor, 4gb ram, win 7 64 professional. I randomly get the blue screen reporting a dumping of physical memory. The machine has been back to the pc vendor, twice which they ran cpu, hd and ram tests. All report ok. They have also replaced ram to try that. But still the same. T first i thought it maybe the software i was using being only 32 bit, but seems to make no difference, can be in my email and the blue screen or doing more demanding tasks in photoshop, it seems to make no difference.

Also, i can go for a week with no problem, then get the blue screen 3 times in 1 day? I've dried re-installing drivers, windows memory check reports no errors either. Ny ideas? Here is a memory dump report i save, 3 in total and all look the same to me. Problem signature:

Memory Usage Goes Up

When i starting the windows (in the first few hours) everything is normal but after 1 day or 2 (sooner or later) the amount of available memory gradually goes down and the physical memory usage increasing. This increasing, continues until the memory usage reaches near the 88% and at that point , there isn't any memory available to operate any software . Also when memory reaches that point, i can't access any drive in the hdd; because everytime i want to open any folder, the following error appears :

C: is not accessible. Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service. At this point, i even can't shutdown or restart windows normally; i must restart windows manually by pressing the restart button. After restart, everything goes to normal again; but this problem appears again and again. (I had to restart windows every 1 or 2 days)

Here is the screen-shots of processes and performance tabs in the task manager (at 88% memory usage)
You can see that there is no software(application) that uses this amount of memory :

http://photoserve. Nl/v.php?Id=786204.jpg
http://photoserve. Nl/images/786204.jpg

I already did the following actions but unfortunately none of them helped me:

0- using some optimizing and freeing softwares like (memory booster gold - ram saver pro - cleanmem)
1- scanning my computer with antivirus and antispywares
2- changing antivirus software
3- updating windows with all updates available via windows update
4- updating drivers of all hardwares
5- downloading and installing the following hotfixes that are related to memory leak:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976658
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977357
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978042
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978155
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979223

6- using cclenaer for clearing everything and using memtest86+ for finding any possible error in memory. And here is screen-shot from process explore (from sysinternals suite) at 90% memory usage :

http://photoserve. Nl/v.php?Id=8885391.jpg
http://photoserve. Nl/images/8885391.jpg

So is there anything that i can do to solve this problem? Any solution? Hotfixe? Trick? Suggestion? Anything?

Win 7 Memory Usage

I am noticing a weird behavior in my windows 7 since last 2 weeks. I have 4gb ddr2 ram in my laptop and when starting, windows gadget shows the usage to be 26%. After however 2-3 hours of usage, even when all the programs have been shut down, the gadget shows the memory usage to be 40-45%. A few percentage (2-3) higher wouldn't have worried me. But this difference is a bit too much i feel. What could be the probable cause for this? Any idea or any help to diagnose the problem would be much appreciated. To add, there hasn't been any recent changes in my laptop except for regular windows updates. Also i haven't run any diagnostic tools yet.

Media Player 12 Memory Usage

I installed windows 7 professional 64 bit from a 32 bit vista home prem system and have encountered memory usage problems. Basically, the longer i have windows media player open, the more ram it uses, in other words it keeps increasing until i close it. I reinstalled win7 and found that the problem went away, however, once i updated windows 7 the problem came back. Before i updated, the usage was low, in the 20, 000k range and when i updated it turns on at 30, 000k and increases dramatically. Should i install 32 bit windows 7 or does anybody have a solution?

My system is a dell xps 420 q6600 2. 4 ghz, 4 gb dual channel ddr2 ram

High Memory Usage With Smb Sharing

I have a number os shared folder on my computer, shared in the old way through advanced sharing. The usual ram load is 1. 49gb as evidenced by task manager showing 4094mb total, 2387mb cached, 2562mb available 215mb free. This morning i realized that my memory usage was 3. 9gb and the numbers didn't add, firing up resource monitor didn't add up suage either it was all "in use" with less than 300mb of cached and 0mb free, it was showing the usual same processes, the thing i discovered with computer manager was that my brother had an 2. 9gb. Iso file mounted in daemon tools in his computer(shared from mine), only mounted it wasn't using it at all and that struck me as odd.

The moment i told him to unmount the iso(and the moment it disappeared from the open files list) memory usage plummeted to normal. During the period of high memory usage, the computer was very sluggish paging left and right whenever i tried to open windows, open tabs in firefox, switch tabs, etc.

I want to know how to fix this horribly wrong behavior as my machine has a ton of files shared and under no circumstance i'll tolerate that eating all my ram(what if i want to start a game when the usage is through the roof?, What if all the other users on the network mount the same file?), On xp i had no such issue and memory usage didn't even flinch on sharing. I have offline files turned off and the service as well. Pc specs: win7 x64 pro, 4gb ram

Cpu & Memory Usage On 100% Even With No Programs Running

Expand Shared Graphics Card Memory Usage

How can i expand my shared graphics card memory usage? I have a 4gb ram ddr3 laptop which i'm very happy with and it runs windows 7 very smoothly. Lately, i've been trying out games however i realized that the 'game-report-thingys' say that the shared graphics card is only allocating 64mb of ram.

On my laptop itself though, there is a physical sticker which says that the graphics can use a total of 1. 7gb of ram. How can i expand my ram from the current 64mb to 1gb? The bios set up doesn't show any ram allocations for shared graphics cards.

Support 2 Physical Cpu On 1 Motherboard

I have the system on which i would like to install win 7, but still is hard to find info if the win 7 will support 2 amdoptron254 64 bit cpu on one board? Would you post this on your site please ? I believe a lot of people want to know if it works in tandem of cpus. If i missed the subject please let me know where such forum or information could be read or learned. Thank you for taking time to go through my email. As an addition to all of it, i wish to add that i haven't come across even one clear answer with successful dual cpu (not x core or dual-core) deployment of any version windows 7 on the internet yet.

Copy Os To New Hard Drive Without Physical Disks

My hard drive on my laptop recently crapped out 100%. I purchased a new hard drive, but now need to install the os. My wife's computer has windows 7 on it and i was wondering if it was possible and legal to copy her os to my new hard drive. If it is ok, how do i go about doing this when there were no physical disks sent with the laptop. All restores are done from the computer as is done with most newer laptops. Maybe i sounds stupid, but. Well, maybe i am. Please help?

Readyboost Issue: Computer Won't Display Physical And Virtual Dvd Drives

After some nasty bsod and a clean reinstall of windows to resolve that problem i've noticed that sometimes after startup the computer won't display correctly the physical and virtual dvd drives. And the system is too slow. I tried in several times to restart it to see if the problem will disappear but the restart process was taking ages to complete. Till i've disconnected the 4gb sdhc card which was dedicated to readyboost. I tried restarting the computer without the sdhc card in it. Went fine. Everything was ok till i inserted back the card then suddenly the computer slows dramatically stops responding and the problem mentioned above reappears!

My question :is it really a readyboost issue or  some tech fault from my computer? And what can i do to fix it. Now i'm using the computer without the sdhc card and the readyboost function.

My pc config is: toshiba satellite  a 300 intel core2duo centrino 1, 83 ghz 4gb ram
And the driver for the card reader is from o2 and it is the latest one!

High Cpu Usage

I have searched the forums and the internet and even contacted microsoft customer support but cannot find any help. I upgraded from vista 64-bit to windows 7 64-bit home premium a couple of months ago. I guess i was the only person that never encountered a problem with vista so i was expecting a smooth transition to windows 7. The problem that i am experiencing with my hp desktop is very high cpu usage after some random period of low usage after it is first turned on. The cpu usage goes from a few percent to high 80’s to mid 90’s and everything slows down to a crawl.

This random period can go from minutes to days. Shutting the system completely down works most of the time. When checking task manager, no processes indicate high usage at all with processes running less than a few percentages after an initial spike after starting a program.

When i check "show processes from all users", the only high cpu usage is with system idle process and nothing else. I’ve redone the upgrade couple of times and then finally bit the bullet and did a clean install, but nothing helps. I’ve kept track of the processes and the services in task manager that are running when it is in low cpu usage and after it goes into high cpu usage and nothing changes. I’ve tried too many things on my own to mention here, but would appreciate any suggestions anyone might have. My hardware specs are as follows:

Amd phenom 9550 quad-core processor 2. 2 ghz
6 gb ram
64-bit operating system
Nvidia  geforce 9100 graphics

Cpu At 100% Usage

I upgraded from vista to win 7 on release day and have had no problems until recently. Over the last few days, my cpu usage will spike up to 100% at random intervals and stay there for a long period of time. When i check task manager and show processes from all users, services.exe is fluctuating anywhere from the low 50 to low 70% in usage. When the computer is running normally, services.exe is around the high single digits. I've uninstalled and programs that i installed immediately prior to the problem happening (and it's happening again as i type this) and i've run comprehensive virus/malware scans using microsoft security essentials and the eset online scanner.

Both found some adware stuff and removed it, but no virus or serious malware issues. This has been going on for several days and has made my computer almost unusable, and i'm at a dead end for what to do or where to look next. I hate to to a reinstall because the original install was so recent, so any advice i can try to avoid starting over would be great.

Cpu Usage High

I'm a fairly experienced computer user, and have a basic understanding of computing theory. I was wanting to propose an idea about the high cpu usage in windows 7 and see if anyone with a deeper understanding could tell me if i'm looking this in the right way. Not only have i had high cpu usage, but my ram is running at a constant 50-60% as well. I have a pretty cheap setup, only running a 1. 8ghz amd athlon and 2 gb of ram. However in my laptop which only has about half the
Computing power and yet doesn't have this high usage. So here's my question.could the high usage issue be in the fact that the system bus takes up more resources to operate.

Meaning say for example, and only for example as i know it's not this simple, a 32 bit system with 2gb ram uses 512mb of ram while idling, shouldn't a 64-bit system need 1gb of ram while idling?  Again, i know that usage percentages aren't set in stone like that, but i was hoping to simplify my hypothesis/question enough for you (the readers) to understand what i'm asking. If this does sound like a reasonable suggestion, could anyone tell me how i might go about testing it in order to prove my theory. I may just be looking at the meaning of 32 and 64 bit all wrong, and if so can someone please explain it to me better?

How To Lower Cpu Usage?

I am running windows 7. I took my tower outside yesterday and blew the dust out of it. When i started it back up i noticed that my cpu indicator was hi when nothing was running. I have been noticing things have been running slow and at times my tower makes a slight reving sound. How can i lower the cpu usage. I know i need to eliminate certain apps from starting up but i wouldn't know which ones. Can you help?Task manage shows  iexplore.exe a couple of times with large numbers can i just click 'end processes'?

Cpu Often Goes Up To 100% Usage

Often, i turn on my computer and it slows down a lot when i get to the login screen. It hangs on the "please wait. " Screen for a minute until finally letting me log in and then goes to the "welcome" screen and hangs for a minute more until it finally pulls up my desktop. The cpu usage stays at 100% for a while. Sometime it goes down to a normal level, but other times it will stay there until i restart my computer (which usually leads to the same thing).

I used malwarebytes' to check to see if i had any viruses, malware, spyware, whatnot and it came up clean. I defragged my computer and that didn't work, i looked to see if there was a program eating up the cpu and there wasn't and then i tried anti rootkit and that found nothing. So, i am pretty *** right now because i have yet to find a solution.

Repartition Memory Stick / Memory Card

How to repartition a memory stick or a memory card? So, i bought an 8 gb memory card and figured i could create a couple or a few partitions on it; perhaps exfat and fat32 ones. I fired up the disk management program only to find out that the flash memory disk has the shrink/extend/delete volume controls greyed out. I did manage to shrink the volume using the disk-part command line program but couldn't use it either for creating new volumes.

Where does this seemingly ridiculous and pointless restriction stem from? I only found a couple of instructions on how to partition a memory stick using some shady third party programs.

Ram Usage Issue - 100% Running

Recently (2-3 days) i noticed that almost all my ram was being used, but no process was using it. As i use stuff like maya, with its known memory leaks, i was somewhat alright with it. Having restarted (ram was now free), the problem disappeared. Within about ~10 minutes, ram usage was at close to 100% with nothing (well, very little) running. Here is a screenshot of the problem:
http://img687. Imageshack. Us/img687/2259/aggfdaggfdfgdfgd.png

I then attemped to clean up my boot, and with odd results. It seems like the ram issue has abated (left it overnight running, ram was technically "free". Upon further inspection, the ram, whilst free, is under "standby". What would use this kind of memory? Nothing was running overnight except task manager and resource monitor. I've tried removing programs and services from startup, and the issue still occurs. Does anyone have any insight onto either the full ram usage or the ram standbys possible causes?

System specs:
Win7 home premium x64
I7 email removed for privacy

Hard Drive Space Usage Under Win7

I just upgraded to win7 (64 bit). My c drive (intel ssd) has ~75 gb space. When i click on "computer, " it says that the total free space is 25gb (i.e 75gb is used up). But the space occupied by all files/folders adds up to only ~24 gb (~21 gb of this is occupied by "windows" and "windows. Old" folders, ~2. 4 gb by "program files" and "program files (x86)", and very little by other folders/files).

How can i find out what is taking up the rest of the space? I have emptied the recycle bin and have done disk cleanup. In addition, in the advanced settings list, i made sure that "show hidden files, folders and drives" is selected. I also unchecked "hide protected operating system files. ".

Dumprep.exe Causes 100% Cpu Usage

Whenever a  program is "not responding", i'll hit "end task"in "task manager", then another window opens up with a choice to select "end now" and it'll take forever for it to terminate. Meanwhile, i cannot do anything else as task mgr shows 100% cpu usage. I notice dumprep.exe is causing the 100% cpu usage and i can only wait until it completes whatever it is doing. Most often, i'm waiting several minutes. I'm not sure what started this problem as in the past i never recalled this happening.

Matching Drive Letter With Physical Drive

I know there must be a simple way of doing this. I have 5 sata drives on my windows 7 system. The boot drive (c:) and another drive (e:) are 150 gb wd raptors. The two raptors are connected to the mobo's sata1 and sata4. But how can i tell whether the c: drive is on either sata1 or sata4? All in can see in the device manager is the drive s/ns. In disk management, all i can see are the drive letters and the drive type, but not the s/n. I know that i could power down, unplug one of the drives from the mobo and see what happens when i reboot, but i was wondering if there was some way to find out from the os.

The only other way i decided that it might be possible to find out is to use the bios to examine the s/ns and try booting from each drive using the bios and see what happens.

Installed Memory Versus Available Memory

I have installed windows 7 64 bit as a clean install on a second disk in a system with windows vista 32-bit running on the 1st disk. The install went fine, and the system is running well. However, when i check the system resources i am told that there is 4 gb of memory installed but only 3. 49 gb available. Is this because i have the windows vista disk in the system. The mbr shows both systems are bootable, and the windows boot file and winload.exe are located on the vista disk drive.

This leads me to believe that i have inherited the 32-bit memory restriction on windows vista. On another system, a new laptop that came with windows 7 64bit pre- installed, also with 4 gb memory, the system resources show that there is 4 gb of memory, without any restriction on what is available.
