Monitor Resolution

I have purchased a legitimate windows 7 copy. No matter how i install it it wrecks my monitor resolution. This is not a cheap old monitor, it's a fairly new one. Right now i use again vista and everything seems normal. But when i install windows 7 the maximum resolution it gives me is 640x480. It's really annoying.

Monitor Resolution Issues

I just installed w7 home on a computer i built for my wife. I chaned out the graphics card from a geforce fx5200 agp 128mb to a radeon s120 agp 265mb. I cannot set the proper resolution on my wide-screen monitor. All its lists is "standard vga adapter" and gives me standard quare-screen resolutions. How can i fix this? The cd that came with it did not work, and the website does not offer any help for this issue. Please help! My eyes are getting buggy from looking at this stretched-out screen!

Forcing Resolution To Crt Monitor

I recently got 2 win7 64bit installations, both performing pretty well excepting a couple of issues. Actually the biggest one is following: i have pro-class crt monitor sony gdm fw900, 24" widescreen. Sony stopped win driver support with winxp, anyway, i'd be really glad if i could keep using it with the new os from many reasons; like there are still only a few quite expensive lcds that can at least touch similar image quality and possibilities.

I tried many ways without any success, it is still detected as a generic crt monitor and only limited resolution/freq. Settings are available. Now i used amd/ati catalyst version which allowed setting custom resolution, however, it seems to be still overridden with windows settings, so nothing more than 1600x1200/60hz.

Please, is there any way to simply force/unlock custom resolutions for crt monitor? I know all of the monitor capabilities and settings it can handle, but i also cannot hope in a new driver update from monitor manufacturer any more. And actually i don't care if it could be damaged or so, it is out of warranty and it maximum res. /Freq. Is far higher that maximum adapter output resolution, so i simply wanna set it as i wish.

Lg Flatron M237wd Monitor Resolution Problem

I cannot get 1920 x 1080 resolution to fit on my hd monitor in windows 7. When i do adjust it to 1920 x 1080 the left 20% of the screen is off the screen. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the monitor cables and restarting. No drivers are available for the monitor. My monitor is the lg flatron m237wd 23" hdtv/monitor, 16:9 ratio which supports 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Generic Non-pnp Monitor - Can't Change Resolution

I installed the windows 7 nvidia drivers ( 190. 62 ) and it works fine, except i cant change my resolution to 1680 x 1050 for my v7 r22w02 22inch lcd screen ! It shows up as 'generic non-pnp monitor'. When i update the drivers it says that the non-pnp drivers are up to date. The maximum i can choose is 1600x1200 wich makes it all squeezed. My monitor is plug n play and i cant run the drivers from the v7 website because they're 32bit.

Dell Precision M90 Laptop Resolution Problem

I have a dell precision m90 laptop and recently upgraded from 32-bit vista to 64-bit windows 7. Everything worked perfectly, except for my display drivers. Windows 7 installed a driver called standard vga graphics adapter. This driver only has very low resolutions, and cannot deal with games or even aero.

I have had moderate experience with upgrading video drivers with vista. My video card is a nvidia quadro fx 2500m. When i had vista there was no vista-compatible driver for this card, so i used the geforce 7900gtx driver (which the fx 2500m was based on) and it worked fine. Of course, the quadro fx 2500m doesn't have a windows 7 compatible driver.

I downloaded the 64-bit windows 7 geforce 7 series driver so i could upgrade and use that, however when i used the nvidia installer it said that my computer had no compatible hardware for that driver (i tried installing it in vista compatibility as well). I tried to force the upgrade by using the 'have disk' option and choosing the . Inf file directly. This still did not work, and said that it couldn't work because 'the driver selected for this device does not support this version of windows' even though it is the windows 7 version.

I have also attempted to start my computer in safe mode, uninstall the standard vga driver and then install the nvidia driver, but this wouldn't work either.

Dell 2407wfp Monitor Problem

Windows 7 does not recognize my dell 2407wfp monitor - only as generic non-pnp monitor. This monitor is capable of running 1920x1200 resolution and this worked fine on same dell latitude d820 laptop under xp pro sp3. However windows 7 does not recognize the dell monitor (shows as generic non-pnp monitor) and will not go higher than 1600x1200. The monitor on the laptop will run at 1920x1200 and xp running inside a vm will also display 1920x1200 so the problem is related to windows 7 not properly recognizing the dell 2407wfp monitor in vga mode. All other oss work fine to support the hardware correctly.

The laptop is running an nvidia quadro nvs 120m card. I have tried multiple versions of vista drivers from dell (no have none for windows 7 - so dell is not keeping up).nvidia does not have drivers for this card either since it specially made for dell and all drivers must be obtained from dell (again dell is useless here - i know windows 7 was just recently released buts it been available to large vendors for quite some time. Thought dell was big into supporting microsoft with their business line of products but i guess even they cannot keep up.

It appears that the problem may also be windows 7 not correctly identifying the dell monitor and many other monitors as well. Unfortunately, i doubt this will ever be addressed by microsoft. I have yet to see any of the long-standing ms issues get resolved. I beginning to see the truth in the latest apple vs ms ad on tv. Oh well time to upgrade the hardware again.

Dell Se198wfp Monitor Compatibility

I am currently using a dell xps m1530 laptop that came with windows vista installed. A short time after that i got a dell se198wfp 19" lcd monitor to use as a dual screen with my laptop. The monitor worked out just fine. I then decided to upgrade my computer to windows 7. Now, i cannot get my computer to detect my monitor. When i plug my monitor in, it is just blank and when i go through preferences the computer only recognizes the built-in screen for the laptop. I have attempted to update the drivers for my computer but i am told that i already have the most up to date drivers.

In my research i have found that the monitor is certified to be compatible with windows vista. However i have not been able to confirm or deny whether or not my monitor is compatible with windows 7. I would like to know first off if my monitor is compatible with windows 7 or not and if it is, how i might go about getting my monitor to work again. I am not against downgrading to windows vista to use my monitor again but i would rather like to try and get it working with windows 7.

Dell Crystal 22" Hdmi Monitor & Hp Envy 15

When i connect the two, the screen displays properly on both the internal and external dell monitor. Once windows 7 gets to the login page, the external monitor goes black. Any ideas on what to try? Both hp and dell tech support say it's the other's issue, but i can't help but think it's got something to do with windows 7.

Dell monitor # is:  223-5647
Envy 15 is 64bit running windows7
Has built-in hdmi

The webcam works fine - just once i login to windows 7, the external (dell crystal 22") goes black. It's so weird because when they both fire up, both internal and external monitors look great. So frustrating!

Update - if i boot the dell crystal 22" connected to the dell xps laptop and then after turning on the hp i insert the hdmi cable form the xps to the hp, the hp can drive the monitor without problems. It just can't drive it through the windows 7 launch. I'll try reviewing the monitor settings but this monitor has already been running hdmi when it's connected to the xps so i'd think it would already be set.

Dell 540 Dual Monitor Video Driver Issue

I upgraded to windows 7 64 bit from vista 64 bit on my dell 540 studio desktop. I have dual monitors. I downloaded the recommend driver from the dell site but system keeps shutting down. At first i was getting critical message "no suitable graphics card" found. If i rebooted, everything would work ok. I tried working with microsoft support on multiple occasions and this is still "unresolved". Now my second monitor won't stay on. Keeps going in analog save mode! What do i do next? I had no problems with vista! Dell offered to help if i paid another $200.

Dell 2209wa Monitor With Ati 4800 Card Display Issue

Images look like they are 16 bit when display on 64-bit windows 7 with a dell 2209wa monitor with and ati 4800 series gfx card. Using the latest version of catalyst (8. 661. 0. 0), driver for monitor was automatically provided during windows install. When i say 16 bit, i mean that the images have serious colour banding issues when displayed.

I have tried viewing images in standard windows viewer as well as photoshop cs3 with the same results, the images look fine in xp, but i want to start using windows 7 because i can use all the 4gb of ram i have. I have looked on the dell website but the provide no drivers for windows 7, device manager shows the driver is from dell and is version 1. 0. 0. The display settings are showing as 32-bit colour depth in windows display control panel, as well as in the catalyst software.

Dual Monitor Problem - 2nd Monitor Detected Black

Ok, so i have a dell that was running vista and two monitors. When i upgraded to windows 7 pro i ran into the infamous black screen problem and fixed it. However, i only fixed my main monitor. When i open the display window, both of my monitors are detected but my secondary monitor shows a black screen and the monitor itself says there is no signal detected from my pc.

The strange thing is my pc thinks its working (i can drag a window from my working monitor towards the black one and it moves out of my working monitor into the black screen). I currently have both of them plugged in using a dvi to vga splitter and i have also updated the drivers by clicking the "update driver" button in the monitor properties window. Please help if you can!

Cannot Move Windows From One Monitor To Other - Dual Monitor Setup

I have two monitors of the same resolution connected to an ati radeon hd 4300/4500 video card. In windows 7 extended mode i see a full working desktop on one monitor, but only the background picture on the other - the four-square flag motif again a blue background with wispy lines, butterfly etc.

No taskbar, icons or anything else. On one occasion briefly the mouse cursor appeared on it instead of on the full desktop image. If i try to drag a window on to the second monitor it won't go there. The settings are landscape with two mointors "1" and "2". I have two images but how can i use the second one?

Screen Resolution Changes By Itself

My desktop resolution continually changes by itself. For example, even though my background is set to the blue sony vaio wallpaper, green streaks and sparkles often appear, even surrounding the windows logo when starting up. Then, the desktop resolution may suddenly return to its normal appearance and stay that way for awhile, anywhere from a few minutes to perhaps a whole day. I have even enlisted the help of sony tech support in resolving this issue, and just when they think they have fixed it, the problem returns.

Change Screen Resolution

Having difficulty setting proper resolution. Had it set then it changed on me. I have a samsung led monitor hooked up via hdmi to my hp slimline tower. I was able to adjust this once before but it just reset when i accepted an update on ie 8. Now the grey box that says "hide modes that this monitor cannot display" is unchecked and greyed out. I can't check it again but i used to have it checked. How do i recheck that box and fix my screen resolution. I think 1680/1050 worked well but right now i'm in 1920;1080 which is making my icons slightly off the page.

Screen Resolution Changes Automatically

I've just installed windows 7 home premium in my toshiba satellite m200 notebook 2 weeks ago. And it seems i have a problem with my vga (mobile intel 965 express chipset family). Sometimes when i'm trying to boot my notebook and windows shows login screen, my screen resolution changes to lower resolution. After login, problem remains the same plus windows disable aero function. But if i restart my notebook, the problem's gone. It seems windows failed to load vga driver when booting.

I already re-installing the vga driver (got 8. 15. 10. 1912 version from windows update), also installing intel's newest driver yesterday (8. 15. 10. 1930) but have the same problem this morning. I never had this problem with windows vista.

In addition, in my startup program, i only load 5 applications : kaspersky av, hd audio control panel, and 3 intel's program (keyboard shortcut, tray icon and screen resolution utility).

Problem Changing Resolution

On my previous 8. 9" netbook running winxp, i was able to set a higher resolution than the monitor supported, by checking the box to "hide modes that this monitor cannot display" in the monitor tab in the advanced display properties. I need to do this in order to run a program that otherwise does not start.

I have now a new 10. 1" netbook running win7 starter and the maximum resolution i can select is 1024x600 and the "hide modes that this monitor cannot display" is grayed out. I am lost, any suggestions? Both netbooks have pnp monitors and intel  945 express chipset family, yet the one with xp allowed me to do the change. Is this an issue with win7 ? If so can it be fixed?

Screen Resolution Is Very Large

After installing windows 7, everything on my screen is very large. If i go to screen resolution, the display will only reads "1. Dell e228wfp on standard vga graphics adapter", the resolution reads "640 x 480" and is grayed out so i can not make any other choice.

When i try "make text and other items larger or smaller", i get a screen that selects smaller-100% (as default). Medium is grayed out and there is no larger. At the bottom of my screen it reads "you can't change this setting because the height of your display is less than 600 pixels. " What am i doing wrong? Everything is so big i have to scroll up and down, right and left to read anything.

Poor Screen Resolution

Hi, i updated to windows seven from vista on a 32 bit, 1 gb laptop and have had problems with the screen resolution. The highest resolution i can get is 1080x768 and font appears blurring even after going cleartype. I'm not sure what the resolution was on vista but all font appeared sharp. What do i need to adjust to achieve an acceptable resolution?I download windows 7 through my universities msdnaa website. If i want to revert to vista, how do i do this without the original software cd and just the iso's?

Screen Resolution Changing Randomly

Just purchased a new pc running windows 7 which occasionally, when i turn my pc on, the desktop icons have moved & are of a different size & poorer clarity. When i look into the screen resolution on such occasions, it seems the pc has not recognized the brand of my monitor & refers to it as 'generic' & the recommended screen resolution (1680x1050) is not on the drop-down list of available screen resolutions. Restarting the pc does not fix the problem. But then i'll restart the pc hours/days later, & everything is back to normal. Becoming a real nuisance. Any ideas?

Media Player Transcoding Resolution

I were wondering if there is any way to improve the resolution it outputs to my hdtv. A 720p video will only come out 720x4** which does not look that good. If the input file's resolution is lower it puts out an even lower resolution on the tv. I have tried using some different codecs but it does not do anything.

Pc specs:
Intel pentium e8400 @ 4ghz
Nvidia gtx285 amp edition
4gb 1600mhz ram.

Unable To Set Change Screen Resolution

I had reason to reinstall my win 7 recently. Since re-installation i haven't been able to set the screen resolution to 1600x1200 despite the fact that it set to it no problem before the reinstall. If i try changing it using the "screen resolution" in appearance/display it reports that "windows could not change your display to this resolution. Try another resolution. " If i try and force it in the advance settings, despite selecting 1600x1200 it sets it to 1024x768. It also in both cases seems to set the monitor to 59hz rather than 60 or 75.

I've tried uninstalling the gfx driver (ati radeon 4800 series) but the problem still occurs. I've also unplugged the second display and am just using the primary one to try and get this sorted. I know the resolution does work with my pc and monitor and win7 as it was fine before the re-install and i use this resolution for older games that don't support wide screen gfx modes.

Screen Resolution When Change Creates Letterbox

I am trying to reduce my resolution from 1280x800 to 800x600 when i attempt this the screen appears to be letter boxed and in the middle is the desktop. The icons stay the same size on the screen but the desktop itself takes up less room on the screen. This happens with any resolution that is not 1280x800 the higher the resolution the smaller the letterbox is.

Windows Wont Allow Same Resolution On Dual Identical Monitors

Using nvidia geforce 250 card with dual envision monitors. Latest nvidia drivers for windows 7 64 bit. Monitor 1 shows as 'generic pnp monitor', while monitor 2 shows as 'generic non-pnp monitor'.

I can add a resolution to monitor 2 via nvidia software, but when selected, windows reverts to previous resolution. Monitor 1 sets fine at 1680 x 1050 x 60hz, while monitor 2 only goes to 1600 x 1024 x 60. The monitors are identical. This was not a problem in xp, both monitors ( and windows ) happy at 1680 x 1050 x 60hz. Any ideas? Can i disable the windows resolution setting program so that only the nvidia has control?
