Delete Protected Folder From Administrator Account

A friend of mine set up my computer with just an administrators account. Later i went back and created my own user account and changed the name of the administrator account.

Now i"m trying to delete a folder but i keep getting the error that i need administrative privileges to delete the folder, but i"m using the admin account! I can't change the owner of the folder because the renamed admin account doesn't have the privilege to view the folder's current owner. How can i get rid of this folder and correct any other folder permissions.

Folder Access Denied - Cant Delete Folder

Folder access denied

You'll need to provide administrator permission to delete this folder

Continue skip cancel

- I click continue and i get:

Folder access denied

You require permission from laptop/chris to make changes to this folder

Try again cancel

- I am laptopchris! (My username is chris on the login screen so i presume i am laptop/chris). Do i have to have permission to do something on my own computer? It's my computer! Im a newbie when it comes to windows 7. Windows 95, 98, 98se, me, 2000, xp im more advanced in, with vista im slightly there.

I have tried numerous attempts at the silly take ownership thing but it seems to have failed. The message i get up when applying the new settings is:

Error applying security information to :

C:users.

Access is denied

This is rather frustrating - am i doing something wrong? Would someone please provide simple, easy to follow, accurate steps to take ownership and provide me with a solution or better, a fix, if this doesn't work?

Cannot Delete Account - Password Problem

Okay, well i've got this user account on my computer that really is messed up. You see, it says it has a password when i never put one on it. And when i go to the "remove password" all i have to do is hit enter for my password. Then when i go back to the main control panel window and select user accounts again, it says that that account still has a password on it. Oh yeah, i forgot to mention that because of this, when i put my computer to sleep, and i wake it up again, i try to log in, well i can't. It says "you account has been disabled".

That isn't that half of it (well maybe it is :x). When i finally got tired of dealing with this account, i made a new one and decided to delete the other one (the one that is f**ked up). When i go to "user accounts" and select "add or remove user accounts" the account i want to delete isn't there. So, this ties me back to the question. How can i delete this d**ned thing?

Cannot Delete User Account That Was Setup On Laptop

I had a profile and user folder named user 117 on my computer when i bought it and set up all of my setting under this profile. I then changed the profile name to "chad". I went in and tried to delete the folder for user117 and i could not. So i then went in and created a folder named "chad" and tried to delete the user117 folder and somehow wound up with a folder named "chad. User117-pc" i have tried many different methods to delete this folder (chad. User117-pc) and i get a message saying something to the effect of "cannot delete - file is in use". What can i do to get rid of this folder?

Missing Administrator Account

During setup of a new computer with windows 7, i created two user account, selecting both as administrators. Today while trying to move a program i got a message stating that i can't perform the action because i don't have administrator privileges. I went to control panel, user accounts and family safety, add or remove user accounts.

Under the names on the icons, the word administrator is displayed, but when i click on a user account and then on change the account type, both users have the radio button next to standard user lit. I try to move it to administrator, but the change account type button becomes grayed (probably because i am not viewed as an administrator. So why did the user accounts change mysteriously to standard user and how can i get them administrator rights when i don't see any other user on startup.

Administrator Permission To Delete A File

I have been running as an admin (i have since set up another standard account for my daily work), and i am trying to delete a folder on my external hard-drive. It says i need an admin/everyone's permission to delete the file. I am the only user. I have tried to change the settings for my external hd to share it and grant all users full control. I cannot find a way to change the ownership of it like suggested in one thread.

How can i delete files without getting this message that i need permission, when i am running as an admin or standard user?

Easy Transfer With Xp Administrator Account

I have an old computer running xp. I have  new computer running windows 7. I want to use easy transfer to move files from the old computer to the new. I have the tornado usb cable for easy transfer. I have one account on each computer. On my old machine this is called "administrator" and it has administrator privileges. In order to move files smoothly with easy transfer i understand that the accounts it moves the files from/to must be named the same. On my new computer, it won't let me create or rename an account to administrator because it says one already exists.

However this "already exists" account doesn't show up in the list of users on the new machine. I'm afraid that if i use easy transfer as is, it will move my old files into the hidden "administrator" account on my new machine and i won't be able to use them. I don't care what the name of the account is on my new machine, i just want to get it up to the level of functionality of my old machine as painlessly as possible. I have considered renaming my old machine account away from "administrator" but am concerned that this might cause other problems.

Non Administrator Account Login Problem

I have had my windows 7 administrator account working perfectly fine since the day i turned on my computer, but the guest account i set up refuses to work. I do not get an error message, nor any explanation of any sort. When i try to log in to the guest account, i see the words "logging in. " Which quickly becomes "logging out. " And i am returned the user-select screen. I also created a new account, with no privileges to test it. Same results. I am running the 64-bit windows 7, and have installed very few programs, although this problem has existed for some time.

I have no idea what could be causing this logging out, and the fact that i don't receive an error message adds to the confusion. I really would like a guest account so that other users of my computer don't have access to my private files.

Locked Administrator Account - Can't Rename

I recently had a new hard-drive installed on my laptop running windows 7, and during the process the technicians renamed my administrator account to a meaningless string. Now whenever i view things like task manager, it comes up with the username as that string, as opposed to what i want my username to be (my actual name).

I tried changing the 'computerowner' settings in the windows-nt section of the registry to my name, but that didn't seem to fix the problem.

After googling a bit, everyone seemed to say to rename the logged-in user in c:users but this option is locked to me! I only have two users showing there; my weirdly-named administrator and 'public'. The administrator has a little padlock icon on it and i cannot rename that user.

Administrator Account For Rescue / Backup Disk

I have a new hp pc and would like to create a backup disk for the os or whatever else might needed to rebuild the software in the event of a failure. I have not added anything to the system yet. Hp's help says nothing about what account one should be on to do this. It just shows the step. It seems very much like it should be done as admin. I understand that's hidden, but have instructions on how to get to it. So what's the answer? Secondly, did ms deliberately hide the admin account because it should not be used for every day operations, but only as needed to do admin work?

Well, i posted this to ms technet and got no answer in 24 hours, so i decided to jump in by using the rescue disk instructions. I put in a dvd at the prompt, and asked for a backup. It showed a green bar working on something. Shortly, i was asked if i wanted to format the dvd. Ok, why not, but what was it working on prior to this. I came back in a few minutes, and there was no indication where it was, so i pressed backup. I came back again some minutes later, and no indication anything was done. I noticed a choice of make image. Maybe that's what i should really be doing?

It would be really good if one knew the status after steps were completed.

Activate Administrator Account In Safe Mode

How to activate administrator account in safe mode? I have two accounts "user1" ("user" level and i know this password) and "admin1" ("admin" level)accounts. Built-in administrator account has a password (i know this password) but it's not active. I changed my admin1 password and now i can't remember it. I have tried to use built-in administrator account by "safe mode" but it doesn't shows up in the list of users (to log in safe mode)? I logged in as a user1 account with cmd prompt. I typed "net user administrator /active:yes" but os says "system error 5 has occurred. Access is denied". How i can use built-in administrator account (since i know that password) when it's not activated?

Hide Administrator Account At Normal Logon

How to hide the built-in administrator account at normal logon? I am now using windows 7 pro at work, and i am trying to recreate the system we had previously on windows xp pro. Namely, i had it set up so that each computer had a standard user account and an admin account. I used the built-in administrator account which is invisible on the normal logon screen - you have to start windows in safe mode to access it.

I have been into advanced user accounts and enabled the administrator account, but it shows up on the standard logon screen - is there any way on 7 to hide this account like it was on xp?

Administrator Password Required To Delete Win 7 Old Files

When i attempt to delete the "old'files i receive a notice saying administrator authorization required. There is no option but either 'try again' same results or 'quit'. I have read a couple of items here on the subject but not on actually deleting the file. I need the space back on c drive. The files are also to large for the recycle bin. Do you have to delete a few hundred at a time. As i have been working on the laptop it seems like some of the files are still being used rather than they have become redundant, that so?

Cannot Delete Folder With Files In It

Every time i try to delete a folder with files in it i get "you need permission to perform this action". I used a fresh install on win7, it's the 64-bit version, professional. This happens anytime i try to delete folders with something in them. I made the folders, so i can't see that it's a permission thing. As well, i can go into the folder and just delete the files, and when that is done, i can delete the folder, which means to me that the files were not in use. Suggestions?

User Profile Service Logon Failed On Administrator Account

I am the administrator on our family laptop and i keep getting the above message. I can get into the other profiles but i cannot access mine from initial boot or by switching user. I am therefore unable to do the fixes i have read about because it keeps asking for the administrator password before it allows me to make any changes. When i enter the password, it once again tells me that the user profile service service logon has failed. I'm stuck. I tried the microsoft fixit but it didn't do anything.

Delete Favorites Bar Folder

How do i delete the favorites bar folder? I'm trying to delete the 'favorites bar' folder from my bookmarks list in internet explorer 8, as it is redundant. I do not currently, and will never use it, and i also do not want it there. However, every time i delete it, it comes back a few minutes later. I've disabled the favorites bar via group policy editor, and i've tried a suggestion i found of setting the corresponding folder to hidden via windows explorer, then deleting the folder from my bookmarks, but it reappears a few minutes later. Is there any way of getting rid of this folder permanently?

Any ideas, i spent 2 hours with online chat with tech support but the kept giving me solutions like. Click on control panel, user accounts, change your account name. Sorry already did that, that is not the prob. Then they offered rt click on the folder, click rename. I already tried that. Log on as admin. I am admin. Stuti is an admin account, very frustrating!

Protected Mode Off, But It Is On

I have a generic desktop i built myself. I have just gone from xp to windows 7. Ie 8 says down the bottom "protection mode: off" but it is on? This was a fresh custom install. Just to give you som idea of protection, i run norton's av 2010 ( just av not suite or 360) with zone alarm pro firewall and forcefield. My toshiba satellite pro l300 was an upgrade from vista, same protection programs, the only difference the laptop says "protection mode:on" in am cert.

3 microsoft vista configuration course accredited and even this has got me stumped. I have tried repair etc. I had ie8 when using xpand vista and it always and so does this come up when open, bottom left "with errors on page". Same protection on both pc and laptop prior to migration.

Drm Protected Wma Files

I would like to upgrade my vista 64x to win 7

My problem is that i have 300+ audiobooks purchased online. These wma files are drm protected and i do not want to lose my licenses when i upgrade. Im supposed to back them up to cd, but that really isn't an option (300 books = 6cd's per book = way too many cd's)

The company no longer supports wma files and has moved on to mp3's, but to convert what i have to mp3's they want 1. 50 per book. Very very last option for me.

Any ideas?
