Moving Photos From Folder To Flash Drive

Windows 7 does not have the same drop down picture tasks as xp. The option to move a photo is not listed. Do i therefore have to copy. Paste and delete? Seems not as easy as xp menu.

Moving Photos Around Within A Folder

I have had windows 7 for only a week now after having vista for a few agonizing months. I was really happy with xp but i had to purchase a new computer that came with vista. After having so many problems i upgraded to 7. My wife and i take alot of pictures and the click and drag feature was really great for us. I spent a couple of hours on 7 trying to arrange pictures in the order that i want and had no success. Please bring back the click and drag. If i could figure out a way to put xp on this new computer , i would do that.

Sorting Photos By Dragging Within A Folder

I'm in shock ! I loaded windows 7 before going on vacation and now that i'm back, i wanted to sort my trip's 1000+ videos/pictures like i always did by dragging them around within a folder and then renaming them once in the desired order. This is step one before producing a slideshow or video and even the most amateur users know that .

It does not work in windows 7 ?

It is mind-boggling that i then read in your forum that this critical user feature was removed "by design" . Tell me there is a way to do it ! If not, this is as stupid as removing cut & paste . Whoever did this "by design" should be fired and quickly before he does other stupid things like that. I'm sorry about venting my frustration like this but this is unbelievable. It means i have to re-format and reload xp or vista back in order to be able to efficiently do my video/slideshow because of such a key feature missing in windows 7.

Please help by suggesting another way of doing it efficiently like before . If no other solution (and i am afraid this is the case from what i have read in your forum) , then please add this urgently at the top of your fix list.

Moving My Documents Folder

Shortly after installing win 7 64 i moved "my documents" by some simple method i don't now recall (it was 6 months ago). I need to correct the situation now. Sometimes i have software installs fail because they are looking for h:my documents and it no longer exists. I have also removed hard drives since then. I also want to setup for a ssd drive keep the os and program folders on c: but data on a different drive. I still have c:usersbmacdmy documents right click doesn't show the location and move option. Permissions shows i have full control and i am an administrator on the system.

My registry shows entries like this for my documents personal reg_expand_sz h:my documents bruce but like this for others my pictures reg_expand_sz%userprofile%pictures i no longer have an h: drive but have all my data stored on f: in the root. Can i search and replace my registry and replace h:my documents bruce with f:?

Problem Moving To New Drive

Here is the situation. I had vista running on my computer. When i bought windows 7, rather than do an upgrade, i did a clean install on a 2nd partition on the same drive. The boot manager remained on the vista partition and i can dual boot.

I just purchased an ssd drive and want to put my windows 7 on that drive and i no longer need the vista setup. I used norton ghost to clone my win7 partition onto the new drive, removed the other drive and tried to boot and when it failed, that was when i realized that win 7 partition didn't have a boot manager (since it was on the vista partition).

I plugged the old drive back in and rebooted to the original win7 partition and used easybcd to change the boot drive. This create the boot directory and loaded the boot manager on the new drive.

I again removed the old drive and tried to boot the new ssd. It started loading windows, but after it said "welcome" it then went to "preparing desktop" and stayed there for a long time. It eventually just showed a blank blue background with text saying it wasn't a genuine version of windows in the lower right. I never got a start menu or any option to activate windows or anything, just a blank screen.

I put the old drive back in again but continued to boot off the new drive. This time, it booted but the ssd drive was f: instead of c: (same as it was when i was booted onto the other drive and ran easybcd). Also, it appeared to be some sort of frankenstein boot, where f: was the system drive but it was running programs off of the c: drive (the win7 partition on the old drive that this drive was cloned from).

So i think the problem is that whenever the old drive is in the system, it insists on making the ssd drive be the f: drive, but it still expects programs to be on c:. When the old drive is not in the system, i think maybe it is still f: for some reason (i can't confirm since i never get a start menu and can't run any programs). I think maybe i don't get a start menu because the system drive is f: but it is looking for files on c:?  Otherwise, maybe it is c: but it is looking for some stuff on f:?

I tried using disk management to change the drive letter f: to be c:, but it just says invalid parameter and fails. I don't understand why it is insisting on keeping that drive as f:, every other time i've done a dual boot, whatever partition gets booted becomes c:. Anyone have any ideas on how to force this drive to be c when i boot it?

Can't Restore Photos And Music From Usb Drive

I have upgraded to windows 7, i now can't restore photos and music that i backed up on to a usb drive? Or from the quote 'old computer either? I follow the steps and they lead me back to the start. Ok, first i tried to just update to windows 7, backed up all files to drive d: after hours of back up i then tried to install it required a clean install so, i went back and copied files that i needed to a usb drive (pictures, music, email files) the install then went forward.

Tried to restore files from usb drive, said it was done but haven't found file on windows 7 but on old computer drive d: but can't access them their and can't seem to transfer them with easy transfer because it says i should have set up an easy transfer file before the update. Which before the upgrade there was no mention of.

Moving Win 7 To Another Hard Drive

I'm trying to move my windows 7 partition to another hard drive but i'm having trouble. The source hard drive is a 1tb with the windows 7 installation (40gb) and another 900gb partition. The destination drive is only 160gb but it is enough for only windows. I used a parted magic live cd to clone the system reserved (100mb) and the windows (40gb) partition to the new drive.

Upon booting that drive it told me to insert the windows dvd to repair the installation. After that windows booted but i couldn't do anything as it said it was not a genuine version. Is this because it noticed it was on a different hard drive? How can i move it to that drive?

Moving Win 7 Upgrade To New Hard Drive

I recently upgraded my windows vista to windows 7 pro. Then i realized my hard drive was too small and ordered another. Can i clone or image my current hard drive to transfer win 7 to the new one? What if i don't have an external hard drive to use for the transfer? Shall i make my old hard drive the master and my new hard drive the slave? I would prefer to have the os on the new hard drive.

The old drive is partitioned and the c:/ partition with the os is very full. I think i would like to reformat it and use it as a back-up drive with the new drive as the master. What is my best solution short of buying the full version of win 7?

Bsod When Moving Win 7 Hard Drive To Amd

Moving my windows 7 hard drive to my new amd quad pc. Bsod when the windows logo starts. How can i fix? I have windows 7 running on my old amd 64 pc and i want to move the hard drive to my new amd 9950 quad pc. Upon boot, it starts up fine and when the animated microsoft logo starts, it freezes and goes into a reboot loop. The error code is:

Windows 7 error, 0x0000007b (0x80786b58, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

If i plug the drive back into the original pc, boots up perfectly! What's the secret on this? I even tried usign a system restore that i created in windows 7 to a new hard drive and still get the same error. I really do not want to to a new - clean install as i have so many apps loaded. It'll take almost a whole day to re-install all of them.

Moving Drive With Win 7 To Backup Computer Without Activation

I would like to come up with a way to provide a full backup computer to my customers (offline, process control application). Currently doing this with winxp and a hot-swap raid-1 enclosure. If anything in computer1 dies, can quickly move the cables and the drive over to computer2, boot up and keep running. Now moving to windows 7, more strict activation issues. Getting a separate windows license for each computer is not a problem, but how to either change the license key easily after the swap, or avoid activation altogether?

Typical system is offline, possibly abroad and would like to make the fail-over as easy as possibly for customers. Currently using oem license but open to other ideas. Have tested with retail copy of windows 7 pro and get 3-days to activate after moving to backup computer, same as oem. Would volume licensing help me here? Other ideas?

Can i install from a usb hard drive instead of the ufd? Then i would not be limited to the usb size of 16gb or 32gb.

Live Mail Folder Relocation To Drive D

Drive c is for the os only, and is replaced with a new image daily. Ms outlook would let me direct the pst data file to the d drive, and so it was not affected when drive c replaced with new image. I wish to do this with live mail and live calendar. I see the folders i need to move are: windows live contacts, and windows live mail, located at: usersappdatalocalmicrosoft.

I did move these folders to the d drive using windows explorer, but when live mail is started, it just re-creates the folders back onto the c drive.

Can't Access Root Folder Nas Drive

Since i upgraded from vista to windows 7 i can't access my root folder on my network drive (nas) anymore. In vista when i choose network it displayed me all networks including my nas drive, there i could select it and it would forward me to the nas root. In windows 7 it doesn't show me to nas and if i tell to go to root likezelst it will give me a permission / access error. The only way for me is to map a sub-folder on the nas directly likezelstfolder1 etc. I wanna know if i can make windows 7 show me my nas drive again and being able to access it's root folder.

Empty Backup Folder On External Hard Drive

This is regarding windows 7 home premium. I recently discovered the files created on my external hard drive by windows automated backup utility are empty. The backup utility continues to apparently create backups: the external drive lights up to indicate activity when the "backup in progress" symbol appears in the notification area of the taskbar.control panel>system and security>backup and restore shows a backup size of 92. 24 gb and verifies the backup location as the external drive.

The external drive itself appears to be working fine: i can move other files, such as outlook backups, to the drive and verify their file size. There are two backup-related file folders on the external drive, one with the name of the computer and the other named windowsimagebackup, which was created about two minutes after the first. But both are empty.

Bsod When I Plug Flash Drive In

On three different windows 7 computers (two of the computers the hard drives were wiped clean of xp by windows 7 home premium upgrade 32-bit, the other a new laptop shipped with windows 7 home premium 64-bit pre-installed) when i plug either of the two flash drives i have, sometimes i will get a bsod for a couple seconds and then it reboots. Not even half the time, but i always wonder each time i put one in, will it happen this time?  If i leave the flash drive in while it reboots, there is no problem using it once i get back to the desktop. I uploaded the 3 mindumps that are on this computer to http://tinyurl.com/ye4zcm2 .

I know the file 020410-28392-01.dmp is from when i plugged a flash drive in, but the other two probably were too, so i uploaded all three. I tried using the debugging tools from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315263 but either it's not working right because i couldn't find a c:windowsi386 folder and didn't find i386 on the windows 7 dvd (though i suppose there's one on the xp disk) or i just don't get what it's telling me.

Flash Drive / Sd Card Removal

Windows 7 professional 64bit - after i use a flash drive or sd card and remove it, i get a message when i log off my user acct "logon ui.exe - no disk - please insert a disk into drive deviceharddisk5dr5. I have had this problem since installation of win 7. This was a new installation. I would restart my computer and the messages would cease after a fresh boot - until i used a flash or sd card.

Now i am getting the messages even after new boot. I have to click the cancel button around 3 times as the message box appears and then my logon screen appears. I then log on and everything is normal until i log off and i get the message box again - even though i have not used a flash-drive or sd card. I have an internal card reader installed which also has a usb port. I get the same message regardless if i am using card reader sd /usb or computer usb ports.

Usb Flash Drive Problem

I have windows 7 on a dell inspiron 1525 (originally came with vista). Every time i use my flash drive to read or play files, or even just view files on windows explorer, it freezes up. The only way to fix it is to unplug it and wait, otherwise it will just sit there with a blank white screen. This never happened on my xp desktop. But what i wanted to do was back up my system. It seems to work until it reaches 25%.

That's when it freezes again. This also happens with a blank cd. The only external memory (besides an external hdd [i never tried that]) that works is a sd card. I don't have a high enough memory card so i'm stuck. I need something to back my system on.

Cannot Open Flash Drive With Autorun

I have windows 7 64 bit on my christmas present(dell laptop). I work for a company that prohibits use of unauthorized flash drives. All authorized flash drives are password protected and an autorun program runs to prevent access until the password is entered. Someone told me widows 7 does not allow autorun on a flash drive and will not even warn the user of the issues and allow the user to override the prohibition (like pop up blocks). How can i use a flash drive with an auto run program on it when inserted into a windows 7 64 bit pc without modifying the autorun file on the flash drive required by the company?

Flash Drive Is Recognized Then Disappears

I bought a lexar twistturn flash drive in december. It has functioned wonderfully with windows xp and vista, but my computer with windows 7 on it has given me problems. The computer is a compaq that came with windows 7 pre-installed. When i plug the flash drive into any of the usb ports, it is recognized and autoplay starts, but about ten seconds after the autoplay window opens, it closes and the flash drive is no longer recognized. This continues in a cycle for as long as i leave
The flash drive plugged in.

I have googled this problem to death, and have found no solution. I also contacted lexar tech support and was told that the problem is likely being caused by the pre-installed drivers. I have checked that my the os is up to date (it is), as well as trying to find drivers to re-install on the manufacturer's website. They may be there somewhere, but i have been unable to find them.
I'm pretty much at the end of my rope with this problem: please help?
