Active Directory Domain Services Not Available At This Time

I know this has come up before but i am at my wits end and i seem to have tried everything. I have a dell studio laptop running windows 7 connected by wireless to a bt home hub. It is connected, i thought locally, to a hp laserjet 1100 printer. Recently, suddenly, it refused to print out of word 2007 (and excel 2007)and the error message above has been displayed. I have tried re-installing the printer, both as myself and as administrator. I have tried troubleshooting, but this reconnects as a network printer and nothing happens.

I am not expert enough  to start doing professional things. Is there a fix or will i have to but a new printer? The annoying thing is that my imac works fine, but for some things i need to communicate via windows.

Error - Active Directory Domain Services Not Active

Printer keeps going "offline" and i get "active directory domain services not active" error message. I have a 2 month old hp laptop with windows 7. I had a hp photosmart 2710 that kept going off line so i purchased a new printer, epson stylus nx510 and now it keeps going offline. When i do the troubleshooting, it says it is off network. Then i get a message that says "active directory domain services not active" when i try to fix it. I have searched for new driver updates and there are not any available. I think it is something in windows 7.

Active Directory Domain Services Unavailable

I'm running windows 7 and after the last set of updates (4/15/2010) i can no longer access the print servers (version 2003). It gives me the message: active directory domain services unavailable. I have verified that dns is set up properly and have tried without the firewall active. I have also tried doing a system restore but that failed to fix the problem. I suspect a registry issue as i have the same problem regardless of what problem i try to print with.

I am also now having a problem with adobe and am getting the error message: unable to print: no pages were selected to print. I noticed that these patches are for patches. I am also unable to use the diagnostics program because it says i do not have the "download a file periodically that helps determine system problems" box " checked even though i do. My computer is a tool that is useless with out this ability.

Usb Drive Takes Long Time When Sorting Files In Directory

I have several external usb drives on my machine. Some of the folders on those drives contain several thousand files, the default is for them to be in name order. Fine. But i quite often want to rearrange them by date, everytime i do this i get the semi-transparent green progress bar at the top of the folder but it seems to take an age to complete.

On previous versions of windows clicking on the column you wanted files sorted by made the sort almost instant. Each time i go back to the folder i have to wait all over again. I thought i had added the folders to the library etc to make searching and sorting easier. Am i doing/not doing something stupid?

Active Win 7

Started up today and was prompted by an error message that i must activate win7. Logged in the key code and was told that it might not be valid. Another option was that it was recognizing a change in hardware. This is a brand new computer built by a local company and after a week of issues it was returned to the store. I was told that the video card and motherboard were replaced, not sure about the hard-drive. This is the same computer or at least i am the same individual that originally installed this copy of win 7 on my home pc.

Win 7 Becomes Active When The Mouse Is Over It

Windows switch when i move my mouse over them i inadvertently turned on some kind of feature that switches between open windows on my desktop simply when my mouse moves over them. I can't remember how i turned that feature on but it is totally annoying. For example if i am working in outlook and i click on new to create an email, by new email window is immediately put "behind" the main outlook window if my mouse is still in the main outlook window. I don't know what this feature is called and i can't figure out how to turn it off.

Domain Profile

We have new install of windows 7 for a user who previously had windows xp. He has a roaming profile setup that has all his files and document stored on a network folder. With windows 7 the domain profile never syncs and in one instance the user change the font size, logged off and the entire changes made to the desktop and outlook were gone! Contents of my documents(over 2 gb) vanished. The users profile still works when he tried accessing it from another machine with xp on it. The user is set as a administrator on the domain and the pc.

Domain Issue

I have a problem with the network picking up a computer once it joins a domain. We recently aquired a laptop with windows 7 professional on it 64 bit, and the network is having problems picking up the computer once it joins the domain. I can go on ad and see that the computer is actually on there, but whenever i try to find it through my computer-> network-> everybody else computer is showing up but the new one is not there.

I have successfully added win7(64bit) computers to the domain and confused why this one seems to be so troublesome. If you need anymore information please feel free to ask and i will try to clarify things if you need it.

Domain Server Not Reachable

I have a problem going to a certain website. Never had a problem before. It's www.Thegoodcook.com. It keeps saying. Internet explorer cannot display the webpage. Internet cannot display this website. This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

Internet connectivity has been lost.
The website is temporarily unavailable.
The domain name server (dns) is not reachable.
The domain name server (dns) does not have a listing for the website's domain.
There might be a typing error in the address.
If this is an https (secure) address, click tools, click internet options, click advanced, and check to be sure the ssl and tls protocols are enabled under the security section

Network Domain Shortcuts

I've just installed windows 7 pro in our test lab. I have attached it to the testing domain and am looking to find out how to make shortcuts on the desktop for either the root level of the microsoft networks or for each individual domain/workgroup. With xp, i could double click on the 'my network places' icon, then click on 'entire network' and double click on 'microsoft windows network. ' this action produces a list of all available domains and workgroups available in the network. I could then drag one of these to the desktop to make a shortcut. This gives me access to just the computers that i'm looking for.

In windows 7, when i click on the network icon a list of all devices appears (after some time of searching). At this point i have to scroll through the huge list to find what i'm looking for. It just seems like to me that there should be a way to emulate the actions of xp in order to only get what is necessary. I shouldn't need to get all the information about everything on the network when i know exactly where i need to go. Does anyone have any ideas of how to accomplish this?

I was able to find a work-around by copying the network shortcuts i had created on an xp machine and they seem to work just fine, but there should be a way to get to these root level domains/workgroups without having to rely on a separate older operating system.

Network / Domain Group Enabled By Default?

Is network group or domain group supposed to be enabled by default? I ask this because i've heard from other people that having a network group allows other users to access/share your system. Also that none of these need to be enabled if you just want to be a single user.

Under computer name, domain, and workgroup settings it shows: "workgroup: workgroup" someone has been able to remotely control my computer for years now and i'm looking for any answers.

Services Settings

I have been trying to maximize the performance of my rig since i only have 4 gigs of ram and my ancient 1 year old mobo can hardly cut it with windows 7 (sarcasm intended). So, i have been fiddling with services but i occasionally mess things up and i end up painstakingly trying to reset those service back to their defaults, one at a time. How hard could it be for the services panel to have a ‘default" or "reset" button? So when people like myself (i’m not very smart) mess up a setting, we can simply click "reset" and the ole’, comfy, default services fix my screwup. Are there other ways to do this other than the aforementioned "by hand" method. Software? Utilities?

Dns Issue - Pinging Host Within Child Domain

I'm having some interesting issues with windows 7 dns.

Here are the particulars:

Windows 7 enterprise 32 bit machine, joined to a win2k3 ad. My domain for example purposes is called corp. Example. Info. I have a child domain: prod.corp. Example. Info, and in this child domain
Is a host: "test". So, test's fqdn is: test. Prod.corp. Example. Info. In this particular case "test" is a cname, but the error happens regardless of the dns record type.

My problem is if i ping test. Prod i get host not found. If i ping test. Prod.corp. Example. Info, everything works fine. If i do an nslookup on test. Prod, i get the correct results. If i do an nslookup on test. Prod.corp. Example. Info i get the correct results. (This tells me the records work correctly in dns) i have no firewall on my win7 machine, or anything funky.

I have other operating systems in domain: rhel4, rhel5, winxp, and hpux machines and all of them can correctly resolve "test. Prod" correctly. I haven't tried it on windows fista, as we're not running it here.

My c:windowssystem32driversetchosts file contains no entries, and is not corrupted.

I've tried ipconfig /flushdns, /release /renew, /register/ etc to no avail.

I have a reserved ip address in the dhcp scope for this particular machine, but the machine does get its ip from dhcp (not sure this matters, but including it anyway) all advanced settings on my win 7 ipv4 stack match the functional xp machine's settings.

I've done wireshark traces on both my win7 machine, and the xp machines, and here are my results:

Winxp:

1) client machine sends a request to the dns server (in this case, my domain controller) for "test. Prod"

2) dns server returns a standard query response "no such name"

3) client machine sends a request to dns for "test. Prod.corp. Example. Info"

4) dns server returns a standard query response with the correct record.

On win7:

1) client machine sends a request to the dns server (in this case, my domain controller) for "test. Prod"

2) dns server returns a standard query response "no such name"

At this point, the win7 machine gives up, and returns could not find host.
Naturally, i checked my advanced ipv4 settings, and verified they're identical to the working
Xp machine. Any microsoft gurus out there have any insight?

Unable To Join 7 Pro To Sbs 2003 Domain

So far i've been unable to join a new laptop running 7 pro to an existing sbs 2003 domain. Whenever i try to use: http://servername/connectcomputer i get an http 403 error and it points to an iis issue, but, i can't seem to find a way around this issue. Then i tried going through system properties and computer name and change to join it. Then i get a 'can't locate domain' message. I've tried using the fqdm, only the server name, the domain name minus the extension and nothing works. At first i thought it was a dns issue, but, i can ping the server name or any other computer by name, with no issues.

Wireless Connected To A Domain For Multiple Users On The Same Laptop

I am in a hospital setting. We have several wireless laptops where users will need to connect to the wireless network and be able to login to active directory. I have found a way to do this for a single user on the laptop but these laptops are used by multiple users. Windows 7 will use one users domain credentials to connect to the wireless network and also login to the domain, but it will not do this for any other users that use the laptop. It appears that it will only remember one users credentials. I assume this is by design but i was wondering if anyone knew of a way to do this for multiple users on the same laptop. I know i could create a single service account to accomplish this but we prefer not to do this for security reasons.

Any other suggestions?

Directory Assistance

Why do i need libraries, my name, users with my name, etc. ? I hated it in vista so i got rid of it and did a full version install of windows 7 professional. Now i have all the different directories. I just want one place for everything to go to. My pictures, music, documents, etc. Have a few different locations so i have to look all over for something. Whatever happened to just having a c drive and everything fell under that? And what is up with the 'access denied' box?

I am the only person who uses this laptop and i am the administrator and can't even get full access rights when i try to set them. Did i miss something along the way? I consider myself to be fairly computer intelligent for years & years now, and is this just something that is staring me in the face and i am overlooking it?

Workgroup Requires Domain Password To Access Hard Drive

I have a dlink router/access point. I run my laptop on the wireless. I have an iomega hard drive hooked up by wire to the router. I'm trying to reach it from my laptop. I can see the hard drive on my network but when i try to access i get a window to enter my user name and password. At the bottom it says "domain: laptop. The network settings on my laptop specify workgroup. Any suggestions? It also says "windows security at the top of the window. I wondering if there is somewhere in windows security i could disable it?

I have windows 7 professional installed on my laptop and i am connected to a business domain network through windows server 2003. The error message  "microsoft word has stopped working. A problem has caused the program working correctly" appears and to program shuts down. When i use my laptop on my home wireless network i have no problems whatsoever.

Interactive Services Detection Error

On bootup this morning i have been bombarded by a 'interactive services detection' dialog box - i've never heard of the program and am unsure what to do with it. Closing out the dialog box will make it disappear for roughly 10 or so mins, on which it will then return. I had a bluetooth detection warning or error this morning as well(i didn't see what it said before it went away).

I'm running win7 x64  on an alienware laptop - i ran mcaffee as well as some other security programs  and nothing popped up with an security issues - so i'm guessing that this is actually a windows program(although i have not heard of it). I went through google and a few of microsoft's sites and have yet to find any information regarding what the parent program is, what it does, how to disable it, etc.

I bought this laptop new, around 6 months ago and this is the first time i've ever encountered this particular error/dialog box - i did not install, download, or change any programs recently(within the past week, minimum). So i'm a little stumped as to why this is coming up now - with no changes to my system. So if anyone could provide some help/literature  on what this program, it's parent program, and anything connected to it does, is, etc and if this program is in actuality a virus or just a program, and to what i should do with it(delete, repair, etc) would be greatly appreciated.

>Win 7 x64
>Alienware laptop
>Most if not all drivers, updates, etc downloaded and applied
>Wireless router, bluetooth printer/fax(not connected to this laptop)

Unable To Create Directory

Whenever i launched ie web browsers(yahoo, google or msn), a message window (1-1/2"h x 2-1/2"w) with a message "unable to create directory" popping up first in the center of screen (i have to close this window first to open up browser) and then ie browser home page will be opening. This is very annoying and i do not know what caused this and how to correct it.

It started happening after i created a limited user account and try to launching ie in the limited user account. No problem in the admin user account and if i change the limited user account to administrator.

My pc is dell inspiron 9300 and windows xp professional and ie 8 are installed, plenty of hd space and 1gb ram. I have this pc for 4 years and i never have this sort of problem before.

Access To The Directory Is Denied

Why can't the admin be the admin? In windows 7, i sometimes attempt to install software. That is a basic function of an os, which i think i should be entitled to do. However, with some programs, the installer gets denied access because "access to the directory is denied". I try to take away the read-only status on my folders, but no, access is denied. It says my administrator should do so.

But, i am the administrator. Why can't i be the administrator of my own pc? Why is it not up to me if the folder should be protected or not?

Is there a way to get rid of this? Because disabling uac doesn't help, and when it is off my security center nags about it day in and day out. I just want to install sandbox2 for crysis for god's sake.
