Replacing Explorer.exe File For Themes

I downloaded a new theme for windows 7, however, i am nervous about replacing the explorer.exe file as instructed. By default, i would think that's a bad idea. But since i'm still learning my way around windows 7, i'm not sure if this is supported as i can't seem to find anything on microsoft's site saying that it's acceptable or not. Has anyone done this when installing new themes in windows 7?

Explorer.exe Uses Too Much Memory

My computer is running windows 7 home premium, 32-bit. I just discovered yesterday that my explorer.exe was literally chomping thousands of thousands of kb of memory just to run. (Going to task manager -> processes). Before, it would take, at most, about15, 000-17, 000 kb to run. Now, the only things i know of that are in explorer.exe are the background slideshow i had running, the gadgets, and the my computer/library windows i had open.

I have 1 gadget, a slideshow of 16 images, and two folder windows open. Before, i had 15-20 windows open and sometimes 40 slideshow images and 10 gadgets running at the same time and the memory still wasn't so high. This morning, it ate up 1, 432, 226 kb (1. 4 gb of memory) just to run. I was kinda scared, so i switched it to only one wallpaper, 1 gadget (the clock one), and no folder windows open. It still ran up to 125, 000kb. Does anybody have similar problem/solution?

I need more memory to make skype calls and use firefox. They keep crashing because i don't have enough memory. Even if i lower the priority of the process it still stays at a crazy level and actually, if i leave it be, it uses more and more memory every minute.

Explorer.exe Is Crashing

My system was infected yesterday by one of those fake antivirus programs. Usually i am able to get rid of it fairly easily. I run spybot search and destroy as well as defender. It seemed to have removed the problem. I restarted the computer and now i am having issues. Explorer will not load on it's own. All i get is a black screen with a mouse pointer in the middle. I used alt-ctrl-delete to start the wtm and explorer through it. But i am unable to open any folders.

After clicking on any folder it takes about 30sec for a message to popup stating: "server execution failed". I can start start most programs through wtm, but i want to run the disk check to see if there are errors. Is there anything i can do? Or should i reinstall? I would hate to do that, but if it's the only option.

Explorer.exe Stops Working

Double clicking on my computer icon usually displays the explorer page. In my case it hangs for ever and if you shut it down it displays the message explorer stopped working, resets the entire desktop and restarts. Same if i use the windows key + e. What is interesting is that i can see the contents of my computer using the link of my documents without a problem. I have tried turning off indexing, repair using command line sfc /scannow (as administrator) no problem found, and fix it for internet explorer. I would appreciate any help / advise.

Explorer.exe Using 50-100% Cpu

I've noticed this for a few weeks. In task manager, explorer.exe shows as using 50-100% cpu, and programs seem to run more slowly. This reliably starts when i open an "explorer window". It will also start if i use msconfig to disable everything (except microsoft services). I have booted into safe mode and run malwarebytes anti-malware - nothing found.

I then ran process explorer, and discovered that the thread which seems to be responsible is called (has a start address) nttdll.dll!Etwtracemessageva+0x130. There may be one or two of these threads present, each using 48%+cpu.

I believe these are responsible, and i think they are used in some kind of event logging, possibly a debugger that somehow got turned on, but i don't know how to proceed from this point.

System:
Intel core2 email removed for privacy
8gb ram
Windows 7 professional 64 bit

Explorer.exe Freezes Constantly

I'm having a major problem with explorer.exe. After ~10 min. Of starting my computer explorer.exe freezes. No option comes up to restart, end, or wait until it responds like normally when a program freezes. I cannot open windows task manager when this happens (no ctrl+alt+delete, when i try to do this it doesn't open up). All programs become unresponsive (taskbar, start menu, web browser, game, etc. ). The only thing i can do is hold the power button on my computer and turn it off. Knowing that turning off your computer this way is very unhealthy for the computer i need to get this problem fixed.

Solutions i have tried (but failed):waiting for the "explorer.exe has stopped responding" box to appear (never appeared even after leaving the computer on overnight). Sfc /scannow (found all files to be ok) scanning for viruses, malware, etc. (I have used malwares bytes anti malware, eset nod 32, and superantispyware. None detected any malware, viruses, etc. )All of the solutions listed here system information:type of computer: laptop manufacturer: hp model: hp pavilion dv6700 os: windows 7 home premium x86 if you need any more info on the problem feel free to ask in the comment section.

Win7 explorer.exe problem my system is win7 home premium, 32 bits. Laptop is lenovo x201, i5, 2g memory. The problem is the explorer.exe stops responding after working for 2-3 hours (i just open several pdf files, word, excel, etc, nothing too heavy), and the clock stops, file folders and programs cannot be opened. And i have to use the task manager to terminate the explorer.exe process and start a new one to get it function again. I wondered if anyone can tell me what the problem is and how to fix it.

Can't Open Explorer.exe, Control Panel, Or Help

Brand new windows 7 computer - can't open explorer.exe, control panel, or help. Can't see or save to c: or d: drives. Got the computer last night, and it worked fine. But tonight i can only access ie, media player, etc.

I only have the default user account at this point, so i have admin rights. I haven't really done much yet since i just got the computer last night. I was going to transfer files from my old vista computer tonight, but i can't even open up explorer on my new windows 7. I tried rebooting, but it didn't help. I also ran the sfc; it did not find any integrity violations.

When i click on the folder icon on the task bar, i get a dialog box with a heading of "explorer.exe" and a message stating "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. " If i try to print a web page to xps, it doesn't commit the save on the c: drive (os and program files) or on the d: drive (data).

I have no idea why it is doing this! It is a brand new system. Last night i installed windows updates and changed the desktop background. I haven't installed any programs or transfered data. And it was just fine last night; this problem started when i turned it on tonight.

Services Explorer.exe Don't Work

I have windows 7 32 bit home edition installed, when i start my computer after logging in there is a message that says "c:windowssystem32system profile desktop not accessible, check user-name and password. " In the middle of the screen and my desktop is all black with no icons. In the lower right hand corner a bubble that says something along the lines of "could not connect to user profile service, this may prevent normal users from logging in" pops up as well. Anything i try to run either does not respond or says "the server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect.

Check user name and password.initially i did a clean boot and it brought back my desktop and allowed some programs to run (such as eclipse, skype, calculator and others) but i was still unable to get explorer.exe to run. However this no longer works although this functionality will come back seemingly randomly at times. The only thing i can think of to fix my computer is to re-install win 7 but i don't have a disk, i only have the download on my computer and last time my desktop came back i tried to run it but i got the "this service cannot be started" message. Safe mode works, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it other than the fact that it is safe mode and doesn't have full functionality.

I can't do a system restore as it seems i accidentally turned it off at some point and there are no restore points. I have tried sfc /scannow with no success. I tried looking for problems with registry keys but i haven't been able to find instructions on how to fix possible problems related to this in win 7 and seemingly similar problems in xp/vista don't seem to have the same structure for registry keys. Does anyone have any ideas as to what i can do? I'm at a loss and can't think of any thing else to try.

Explorer.exe Crash - Win 7 Pro X64

I'm having some problems lately with my windows 7 pro x64. About 2 weeks ago explorer.exe(the shell, not iexplorer.exe) start crashing without a (obvious) reason. A few days later i noticed that this problems usually but not always occurs when i'm using visual studio 2008. After explorer.exe crashes, every time i try to right click on the desktop or an opened folder, it crashes again. However this doesn't happen if i right click a folder(icon not inside the opened folder). Since this problem appeared out of the blue, i first suspected a virus or other malware so i did a full system scan with my norton 360 without finding anything. The second thing i did is to check every software installed short before the problems appeared. Except a few system updates the only apps i installed this month were metro 2033 and a video driver update. I removed the game and rolled back the driver to the previous installation but the problem persisted. Since after the first crash i can't right click anymore i checked every single non microsoft shell extension installed(adobe extensions, winrar, winamp, xnview, folder highlight, nvidia control panel, norton scan, alchool 120% and a few more - i know i have a lot of extensions but i never had a problem with this before neither on windows xp nor windows vista).

I also tried every single solution provided on this forum or any other ms forum or any other windows 7 forum i could find but nothing worked. Since i run out of options i replaced ntdll.dll and explorer.exe with the files from my hp laptop running same windows and 80% of my desktop apps(except games and drivers) but no effect again. The only thing i didn't do is to remove every update installed this month. I also performed a hdd test, ram test, vga test and cpu test and every thing is fine. (I had some technical problems with my pc so i ended up by changing my mother board and video card so i thought it's a hardware problem again). So, so far. Everything i know about this error is the info provided by event viewer and reliability monitor.

Here is the info provided by event viewer and reliability monitor:/*faulting application name: explorer.exe, version: 6. 1. 7600. 16450, time stamp: 0x4aebab8d

Explorer.exe Freeze Playing Logoff Sound

I want to take my machine in for service and want to be able to make sure the repair person knows what they're doing before i let them mess with it. I have had my dell xps studio 64bit for less than a month. Have installed minimal additional programs besides what it came with and when using explorer it has frozen on several occasions forcing me to shut the whole computer down and then displays this error with the only option to force the program to close. (Waiting for) explorer.exe playing logoff sound.

What exactly is wrong? And how can it be fixed? Thank you so much for your help. As you can see i'm very frustrated and concerned that i just spent a lot of money on something that is not working properly.

Multiple Instances Of Explorer.exe Running In Task Manager

There are multiple instances of explorer.exe running in task manager (currently 7), each one using between 10-40mb of memory. I've never seen this in any previous version, and it doesn't look right to me. Different explorer.exe processes are using cpu resources at different times. I remember reading a while back that this could be a sign of a virus, but i've done a full scan with nis 2010 and nothing showed up. Can anyone give me pointers where to start investigating?

I did a clean install of windows 7 last friday -formatted hdd and all, so there hasn't been much time for anything bad to happen!

Run Exe File Issue

Windows 7: when i try to run exes it asks me to "choose program", says it can't verify signature of ms download. I just installed windows 7 and now when i try to run exes (e.g. , I just download an anti-virus program) it ask me to choose a program to open the file. Not sure it  it's related, but i then tried to download mss anti-virus and for that it tells me that it can't verify the digital signature for the file and will not open it (it continues that "a recent hardware or software change may have installed a file that is incorrect or damaged. "). So i can't seem to install anything right now

File Crashes Explorer

A file i have been downloading for a game via bittorent (legal mod for a game) that i was re downloaded to play with friends has been giving me some trouble. It started with bittorrent locking up when trying to check the files after i re started it, so i thought it was the program and uninstalled it and went to delete the 2 files i was downloading. When i try to delete the files it would bring up the recycle task bar and start locking up my computer and eventually crash explorer, even after that i can hear my hard drive making noise so i ran virus scans (avg), hijack this, ccleaner, seagates hard driver check (to see if it was dieing).

And nothing came up. I know have the two files sitting there and if i do anything to them, try to move them, right click them, etc explorer will freeze and crash. And even after it comes back on i can hear my hard drive accessing data or trying to do something. So my best guess is the files got corrupt during the download when i stopped the download and for some reason wont allow me to touch them. Any ideas?

Justcheck.exe File Issue When Start Computer

I just recently obtained windows 7 64 bit home premium on a new pc from dell computers. Whenever i boot up i get the message from an unknown publisher labeled 'justcheck.exe ', and when i reply'no'to the message, java appears in my task box each time. I did a search on microsoft, dell, java for this message to no avail. It is as though they never heard of it. I have mcafee for antivirus, as well as super-anti-spyware and these do not address this issue. I was wondering how widespread this issue is, and what can be done about it?

Unable To Run .exe File Type Problem

Would like to delete dos mode, i operate a "windows 7 home premium" laptop. A few days ago i was attempting to download an updated version of'adobe flash player' which never seemed to complete. It seemed directly after being at the adobe site that any time i try to open an exe file (executable), the file is sent to wordpad in 'dos mode'. I have never came across this situation before. My son-in-law came by last night and tried to run some kind of program off a usb stick, and he said, 'it would run'. After he left i was able to get on the internet, but still have the problem with exe type files.

X86 File - Internet Explorer 8 Will Not Work

I have recently bought windows 7 and installed it and i have ran into a few problems. First my system is a 64-bit system and i have x86-files.

1) here is my main problem internet explorer 8 will not work when it is started from the x86 file. However, if i start internet explorer from my x64 file it will work correctly.

2) i have no idea how to uninstall the x86 file of internet explorer 8 so that i can reinstall it. When ever i attempt to uninstall it tells me that trusted installer is stopping me.

More information. I have other programs saved on x84 files and they work fine example: microsoft office, adobe, etc. So i'm wondering if there is not a problem with the internet explorer 8 file.

Here is my question how can i uninstall the x84 file of internet explorer so that i can reinstall it.

I found out some more information. I found out how to turn ie8 but i still dont know how to uninstall the program here is the website that showed me how to turn it off: www.Digitaltech.co. Cc/504/how-to-uninstallremove-internet-explorer-8-from-windows-7-build-7048/

Full File Address In Folder Explorer Bar

How to show full file address in folder explorer bar in windows 7? Is it possible to make the address show similar to xp (c:program filesadobe. )? It's extremely confusing as it is now, especially when in a mapped drive (i would expect the base level to show the mapped drive rather than "computer").

Replacing Motherboard With Same Model

Replacing motherboard with same model but standard intel bios, not emachines/intel bios. Will my windows 7 still activate? I have found a replacement motherboard for my emachine computer running windows 7 home premium 64-bit upgrade. The motherboard is the same as the one i have now, but will have a strictly intel bios i believe and not the emachines/intel bios with windows vista home premium 32-bit activation built in. Will i be able to upgrade to this board and still use and/or install my windows 7 upgrade?

Replacing Hard Drive

I installed windows 7 ultimate full retail version a few months ago from vista and haven't had any issues with it and am glad i purchased 7. However recently i'm starting to think my hard drive might be on its way out, its very noisy and i've had a couple of lock ups.

Ideally i'd like to buy a new (better) hard drive and start again with a fresh install but i don't know if im aloud to do that. Will it allow me to install windows 7 on another hard drive when all the other parts are the same? Sorry for the basic question but obviously i want to make sure whats what before going ahead, or before my hard drive dies lol.

Explorer Will Not Copy 8gb Iso Image File To External Drive

Windows explorer will not copy an 8gb iso image file to an external drive with 185gb of free space says file is too large for the destination file system. I tried copying an 8gb iso image file to an external drive with 185gb of free space and windows explorer keeps giving me the message "file is too large for the destination file system".

Then i tried copying the same file to a separate partition on my hard drive and it worked smoothly. I also tried copying a folder containing the sae content and about the same size and it also copied easily. I don't understand why it will not copy the 8gb iso file. By the way i am using windows 7 ultimate.

Themes Automatically Change

2 days ago i purchased a asus x5dij notebook with windows home premium pre-installed. Basically this morning when i turned on my notebook i noticed my wallpaper was different from the one that i had set when i first got the notebook, assuming that my girlfriend had changed it thinking she was on her account i changed it back and carried on with my business, after a while i had to restart my laptop so i did and when i logged back on to my account it did the same thing, changed my theme & wallpaper, so i went in search of a solution on google only to find that my freakin google chrome theme had been reset also. Crazy huh?

So i checked my girlfriends account and exact same thing happened to here theme and her chrome, sorta confused i created a new user account just to check, and yep same thing happened.
