Install Media

I've got 2 computers with windows 7 - a desktop that i have just done a clean install with a windows 7 home professional retail license, and a laptop that came with vista that i updated using the upgrade programme.

My issue is that the version of windows 7 i got for upgrading the laptop was 32 bit only (although it had 64bit vista and has 4gb of ram), so i was wondering if i would be able to do a clean reinstall on the laptop using the 64bit installation media from the retail copy of win 7, but using the key from the laptop upgrade package? Would like to get some idea if this would work before wiping the laptop, and help welcome!

Clean Install With Upgrade Media

Well my computer had rescue discs but since they were proven to be functionally useless i was stuck with a very buggy system after a recently (read: yesterday) reformat/reinstall. Well, things have been screwed up to the point where i need to start fresh. I purchased win7 pro x86 and have that installed currently. My comp shipped with vista and that is what is contained (somewhere i'm sure) within my useless rescue discs. My question is if i could perform a clean install over my existing win7 install w/o any problems using my upgrade disc. Please help; i am tired and fed up and could really use a hand.

Media Center Will Not Install Add-in

Very strange problem. I go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-media-center/launch/easylaunch-netflix.aspx to get the netflix add in for media center, already installed it on a different machine running windows 7 with no problem. I get all the normal warning messages, media center finally launches, then nothing, it just sits there waiting for me to do something.

No error messages, no complaints. On the other machine i immediately get a log in screen for netflix and everything works fine. The only real difference between the machines is that this one is a laptop with windows pre-installed and the machine that works is one i built myself. Don't even know where to start looking and don't seem to find anyone else with a similar problem.

How To Clean Install With Upgrade Media?

I had a virus and my windows vista (64 bit) system crashed and would not re-boot. First, i tried to restore the system to the dell factory setting (like new) but it still will not start. Then, on a different machine, i downloaded "darik's boot and nuke" to cd. I plan to nuke my system and then upgrade to windows 7. How do i validate that i have a license for this computer, allowing me to use the upgrade w7 disc? Ps  it is a dell machine that came with vista 64 bit pre-installed.

Cannot Clean Install With Upgrade Media

I recently reformatted my hard drive because of multiple errors and the like piling up on my system. After installing windows again and installing my applications, i remembered i skipped registration during the setup process, so i went to activate my key, and i got this error:
The following failure occured while trying to use the product key:

Code:
0xc004f061

Description: the software licensing service determined that this specified product key can only be used for upgrading, not for clean installations. This is very bad for me, because i got my copy of windows with the student discount via download, and unless there is a workaround or microsoft would kindly reinstate my product key, then i will have no pc. My pc will expire in 27 days, please help microsoft.

Ms Media Center Remote Won't Install

I have the following issue: the mce remote, perfectly working, on other pcs, in windows 7 and, on the very same pc, but under win xp pro, doesn't work on this system. I noticed that, although when i plug the ir receiver the "infrared ehome receiver usbcir" is installed, two other essentials devices are missing: one is under the hid section and is the "ehome infrared receiver" (sorry for the non exact reporting but my copy of win 7 is in italian), using the hidir.sys and the other one is under "system devices" (?) And is the "dispositivi ir utente" (can't imagine the english name here sorry again . ), Using circlass.sys.

I'm trying to manually install those two devices with no success (actually i have no idea how to do it), i already tried to remove / uninstall the "infrared ehome receiver usbcir", unplugging and plugging back the ir receiver but with no success.

Clean Install With Upgrade Media - Activation Code Wont Work

Im a student in the pitt system. We were issued a copy of windows 7 ultimate upgrade version. I have a laptop with vista on it and would be happy to keep it on there. I recently built a new computer from scratch and would like to put my copy on windows 7 on there.

Everything worked up until i got to the activation code since it was as fresh of an install as it could be. The activation code wont work though. Being a college student, i don't have enough money to buy even an old copy to install so i can upgrade to windows 7. Are there any very low cost (under $30) options in order to have my windows 7 work?

Upgrade As Clean Install Using Upgrade Media Using One Hard Drive

I need help with planning my upgrade to windows 7 from windows xp pro. Can i do this upgrade as a clean install using upgrade media if i've only got one hard drive? I'm currently running 32-bit windows xp professional and want to upgrade to 64-bit windows 7 professional.

My laptop only has one hard drive on it, so installing "fresh" to a separate hd isn't possible. Since i already back up all my data to an external hd, i'd like to just format the internal hd and install windows 7 onto that. Will that be possible though using upgrade media? How does it verify my existing xp pro license?

Automatic Media Information In Media Player Stops

I'm running wmp12 on win7. I placed a bunch of mp3s in "my music" folder, then went into windows media player and in options for "automatic media information updates for files" i checked all the boxes (with the sub-selection of "only add missing information"). So as i anticipated, wmp started to organize all my music into nice little folders (like itunes). But then after getting about half way through, it has just stopped. So half my music is organized and half is not. Does anyone have any idea why it stopped and how i can get it to finnish the job?

After Win7 Install Should I Install Programs Then Backed Up Files ?

After windows 7 complete install. Should i install the programs then the backed up files or the backed up files then the programs. Windows 7 complete install. Should i install the programs then the backed up  files or the backed up files then the programs. I saw where microsoft recommended installing the backed up files first then the programs so the programs know where the files are located.

I would think installing the programs first would be better to minimize defragmentation. Os then programs, then files.

No Media

I have a device plugged into the usb port that after formatting to ntfs has about 16gb of storage space yet it is not displayed when i click on computer. Disk management  sees the drive but reports that it has  "no media. In the "old days" i would go to control panel and click on add new hardware and it would search for the a newly attached device and it might request a driver be set-up. Under windows 7 i do not see a command for adding new hardware. What should i do?

Working With Media

I like to use pictures, music and video on my computer and on portable media devices. What i'm confused about is what program can help with these? I thought that with windows 7, windows media center would be the ticket. But i'm finding that isn't the case. Is real player the answer? Or something like "keep video.com" or what?

I have a zune 30 (which i can't make work) and two creative zen players (which do work) but i'm thinking about an ipod classic because there seems to be so much more available for that device. But then will i have all of the issues about windows/apple etc. ?

Media Player Gone

Yesterday i began having problems with media player 11. I tried to get help from microsoft and hp with no luck. I tried to uninstall it thinking i could reinstall it and solve the problem. I couldn't find an uninstaller anywhere, yes i tried the control panel. So i tried to delete the whole file thinking i could just download and install another. I couldn't delete it until i changed the permissions and restarted the computer.

Now my media player is gone and none of the downloads i'm getting are working. All i'm finding are for vista or xp and an update for 7n etc. Does anyone know where i can find windows media player that will install on windows 7? I have other media players that work, but i'm more familiar with the windows one.

Media Player 11 Or 12

My wife hates. Hates the new media player that's on her windows 7 os. I know you can disable it. My question is if i disable the player for her will i be able to install media player 9 on her system? As a side note, i followed instructions from a helpful person on this forum to stop my media player 11 from adding all my sound bytes from a recording program i have on my windows xp. It worked for a day but now the media player is at it again, it constantly adds gigs of sound bytes to the media player library.

I just reverted back to media player 9 and i'm waiting to see if it happens on that version. I like the media player but if it continues to add those files to the library i'll have to drop windows media player. If anyone has done a search on problems people are having with windows media players on the net. It's literally millions of people that hate these players lol. Ok maybe it's not so funny.

Media Centre

Using windows 7 hp. I am trying to open the media centre to set up for tv etc; it will not open for me. I get a box up each time "you are currently logged on as a guest. Windows media center requires a non-guest account. If you need to change your user type, contact the owner of the system" of course i am the system administrator/owner. I cannot find a way to change to a user account? I have looked into the security setting to see who can do what to the system regarding permissions and owning the system.

Media Center

What do i need to do to get media center to remember where i stop or pause a dvd when i'm unable to watch the entire movie in one sitting? I can pause the movie, and either shut down or "sleep" the computer, but when i restart the computer and start media center to watch the dvd where i left off, the dvd starts from the beginning. Is there something i can do in the "setup" screens to force media center to resume the dvd where i left off at?

Recorded Media

I updated my operating system to windows 7 from vista. Now a large portion of my recorded tv will not play. Is the recorded media tied to the operation system? On the same note i had to reinstall the windows 7 operating system and now i am getting an error msg that states (trial expiration - this trial version has expired and can no longer be used). Is this a bug with windows 7? Am i going to run into more problems when i put up a media server using microsoft home server on my home network?  Is there any way to fix these operation system version problems?

Help With Media Center

I am currently running windows 7 and have windows media center where i watch and enjoy tv shows. Unfortunately, my cable company, comcast, has required that customer will have to use a digital adapter in order to continue watching. With the adapter, i have to keep windows media center on channel 3 and control the channel with the remote that came with the adapter.

Due to this change, it is more difficult to record tv shows in windows media center. I really enjoy the way this version of windows media center records and files the shows. But, with this digital adapter i cannot.

I have a hp compute with an external hp tv tuner. The comcast digital adapter does have an "ir in" hole where i can connect an ir something into it. My ir receiver that i got with the computer has 2 holes in the back. Not sure what to do. I would like to configure the system where i can use windows media center like i did before the comcast digital adapter came into my life.

Media Center And Two Monitors

Current setup: using two monitors on my laptop (built-in and external display). Running windows 7 professional 64-bit

Problem: i watch movies/netflix/media center on my external display. When watching movies, my laptop screen just displays whatever was left on it for the entire time.

Solution? Without having to close my laptop, is there a way to make the un-used screen turn off while watching a movie? Either some sort of plugin/application, or maybe a setting in windows or media center? I've just been letting it stay on for now, but i don't want my laptop screen to get burned in.

Windows Media Center

I have windows 7 and enjoy watching tv programs from my pc with the use of windows media center. However, our local cable tv company (comcast) has it now where all customers are required to have a digital box in order to watch many of the channels they provide. After hooking up the digital cable box, i set my media center to channel 3 and all is well. I can watch what ever.

However, if i schedule to record a tv program, the media center will change the channel to the channel that i am recorded. Hence, changing the channel from 3 to whatever the show i am recorded. Sadly, if media center is not on channel 3, then i can not watch anything nor record anything.

Is there a way around this where i can still record by using windows media center along with the digital box that is required.

Media Player 12 In-compatible

I recently installed windows 7 onto my laptop, upgrading from windows vista. I had windows media player 11 on vista and i understand windows media player 12 comes with windows 7. However, the first time i tried playing some music, windows media player 12 was just a desktop shortcut. The program had deleted itself some how. This would not be a problem if i could download another copy. But the two windows media packs for kn and n windows both say they are incompatible with my computer. Can anyone help? Or must i abandon my music listen on my computer?

Skins For Media Player 12

I asked about this a couple of weeks ago, and received an answer. Unfortunately, i've been away from the forums for awhile and am sorry i didn't respond then. Anyway, i downloaded a skin for media player 12 and now none of the skins work. Well, all i get is a white box in the shape of the skin and if i hover the mouse over the correct places i can use the controls. If i click on skin chooser the player stops working altogether. A window appears saying that windows will stop the program and search for a solution.

Someone told me in this forum to uninstall media player from control panel under turn windows features on or off but it didn't work. Evidently this doesn't actually uninstall media player, it just deactivates it. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I promise i will keep in touch. I would like to thank whomever helped the last time, i shouldn't have left you hanging. By the way, i am running windows 7 64 bit home premium.

Media Player 12 Issues

I've recently purchased a laptop with windows 7 home premium. I'm a fan of music and as such i have a wma lossless catalog consisting of over 1000 cds. I'm also a fan of album art over pretty lighting effects. I've scanned each cd's cover art to show 960 x 960 jpeg clarity. So far windows 7 works well except for windows media player. I don't want to have to re-rip my entire collection to another format (just reverting back to wmp 11 would be acceptable).

Library not loading correctly, if song title doesn't match online content completely then music goes to "unknown" folder. Am unable to view my own album art (960 x 960) versus online album art (sub 300x300). No advanced tag editor? If these issues cannot be resolved, how do i install wmp 11 on a windows 7 machine? Very disappointed so far.
