Laptop Cannot Find Printer On Desktop

I can't get my printer set up on my network. Laptop is running windows vista, desktop is running windows 7. Everything was fine until my desktop motherboard failed. I had to get a new mb and installed windows 7. Now laptop can't see printer. My laptop running windows vista can't see the printer associated with my desktop running windows 7.

Are they not compatible with each other? It keeps asking for some sort of password. I have none that i remember. The printer worked fine before the installation of a new motherboard and windows 7. Now i can only print from my desktop.

Desktop Pc Thinks It Is A Laptop

I built two identical desktop pcs and with windows 7 home premium. Both are plugged into the same ups and i have not installed the ups software in either one. One of the two keeps shutting down and when i turn it back on i get a message that it shutdown because the battery was low. Also this one has a battery indicator in the tray at the bottom of the screen. The other machine does not have the shutdown issue or the battery symbol in the tray. I have tried various settings in the power management but cannot convince this thing it is a desktop and has no battery.

Win7 Can't Find Printer Port For Usb Printer

I have a canon pixma mp780 printer. It is a usb printer. I downloaded the latest driver, which is supposed to be specifically for windows 7. Windows installed the driver with no problems, but it is having trouble locating the printer port. I have the cable connected on both the pc and the printer. I have tried unplugging and re-plugging them both, as well as restarting the machine. The window for finding the printer port has the following message:

"Caution! Cannot detect the printer port. Check that the printer is on and that the cable is connected. If the port has not been detected even though it is connected, disconnect the cable from the printer and then reconnect it. "

I am at a loss as to what to do next. The window claims it will close once it finally detects the printer port. I have tried to plug the printer into different usb ports in hope that one of them would finally be recognized, but so far it has been to no avail. Do i need to reboot? Is there anything else i can do? I didn't have any problems when i was using windows xp, so i'm sure it is a windows 7 issue.

Laptop And Desktop With Win 7 Will Not Network

My windows 7 laptop and windows 7 desktop will not network. If i create a home group on either one, the other does not give me the option to join. If i map the network connection sometimes the desktop will see the laptop but won't connect to it. The laptop usually won't see the desktop at all. Once i had both showing a network connection but they still would not join a home group. I have a belkin n+ router and everything seems connected properly. The only thing i have noticed is that the laptop is on the wireless network and the desktop is on local network 2 and i can't seem to change either.

Pc Cannot See Wireless Win 7 Pro Laptop Or Xp Desktop

Windows 7 home premium cannot see wireless win 7 pro laptop or xp desktop. I have seen this topic in various forums, i've tried several suggested changes/additions without success. My situation is i have two laptops one with win 7 home premium the other with win 7 pro and a desktop running xp (sp3). These are connected through a bt home hub and using a workgroup local network have worked fine, file sharing print sharing etc until recently. Both laptops were originally built with vista with the offer of an upgrade to win 7. I recently tried to connect my laptop (win 7 home premium) to my desktop (xp3)with an ethernet cable. Through my lack of knowledge i gave up, i established a
Connection but could not "see" each other in explorer. I decided to revert back to my original set up but it stopped working on my laptop, no file or printer sharing.

I have tried the following in the cmd utility;-

1. Pings - from my laptop i can ping the other's on name and ip address successfully. From the laptop running win 7 pro i can do the same. From my desktop (xp) i can ping my laptop (win 7 hp) and the win pro laptop using their ip addresses, but when i try pinging with their names i cannot ping my laptop (win 7 hp).

2.net view - i have successful listings when i run this on the desktop (xp) and win 7 pro laptop. It will not run on win 7 hp. Both the desktop (xp) and win 7pro laptop can see and access shared files on all 3 pc's, win 7 hp laptop cannot see shared files. Desktop (xp) and win 7 pro laptop show all devices in "network places". In explorer win 7 hp laptop does not show xp desktop, it shows win 7 pro laptop but will not connect to it. A message appears "check spelling of name" it is correct. The trouble shooter does not detect any problems? When i view the network map i can see the xp desktop, the win 7 pro laptop is at the bottom of screen saying it is unable to be connected.
Can anyone help?

Remove Win 7 From Laptop And Install On Desktop Using Same Key

I recently purchased windows 7 ultimate upgrade (£175) from vista home premium my acer aspire 5920g to use virtual pc for my college studies. I was shocked to then find that there is no hardware virtualization on the laptop. I now would like to remove it from the laptop and install it on my desktop which has the hardware virtualization. Will i be able to do this and use the same product key after removing it from the laptop as it is only a one computer license. Also how would i be able to do this and what would the effect on the laptop be? As a disabled student i cannot afford to pay twice.

Vista Desktop Win 7 Laptop Sharing Problem

I've tried everything i can think of, but i'm still relatively new to this. I've turned on everything in the networking center (such as discovery, file sharing, etc). My computers can see each other, but when i go to open one up, it says it can't connect because access is denied. I have the password protected sharing off on both computers. I also have no other passwords, etc set on either computer.

All i want to be able to do is be on my laptop and open files that are on my desktop. Any ideas?

Home Network Problem - Xp Laptop Wont Connect To Win7 Desktop

1)  my former xp (desktop) to xp (netbook) home network worked perfectly! I could print from either computer to a shared printer, i could use the dvd and cd drives located on my desktop with my netbook, etc.

2)  i just upgraded my desktop to win7, and while i love win7, the home network is gone. I can "see" my netbook on my desktop network, but can't access it. I can't even "see" my desktop (nor printer, etc) from my netbook.

3) i can get on the internet with my netbook through a wired or wireless router connected to my desktop. And, yes, i've tried all the wizards for home network setups, to no avail. Any ideas out there?

Cannot Find .inf Printer Driver For Canon Pixma Ip4000

I have a laptop running windows 7 (64-bit machine) that i want to print from. The laptop is wireless on a home network. The desktop is wireless as well and is running windows xp. The desktop has a canon pixma ip4000 printer hooked up with a parallel cable. I have installed the latest xp drivers for the printer on the desktop. The laptop can connect directly to the printer with a usb cable and the drivers will download automatically and it will print fine. However, i cannot connect this printer using the wireless system.

I can go on the laptop to the home network and navigate to the printer and try to install. It does an automatic search and says it cannot find the proper drivers. I can browse to the install file on my desktop, but it is an .exe file and not . Inf. I have run the .exe file and it installs too, but the printer installer on the laptop will not let me by the add . Inf screen to finish installing a wireless printer. Any suggestions?

Canon Imagepass D660 Laser Printer - Cannot Find Driver

I'm looking for creative ideas on my friend's current conundrum. He got a new $400 compaq pc from best buy loaded w/ windows 7 64-bit. All went swimmingly well until we got to his canon imagepass d660 laser printer. No 64-bit driver. Canon will never create a 64-bit driver for it. He loves this printer and does not want to abandon it. We can print to the printer from a laptop we converted from 32-bit vista to 32-bit 7. I'd share the printer from the laptop to the desktop but i believe that would still require a 64-bit driver.

I see only two options, unless someone can suggest another:

1. Repurchase win 7 at retail; wipe & reload the pc with 32-bit. Not sure if 32-bit drivers are available for the internal hardware. No cd came with the pc, either.

2. Return the pc and locate another pc with 32-bit loaded - probably via dell or hp online.
If there is any way to circumvent a problem where there is no 64-bit support for a printer but another networked pc can print via 32-bit, i'd love to know about it.

Printer Sharing - 64-bit Win 7 And 32-bit Xp In Remote Desktop Session

Printer sharing - 64 bit windows 7 and 32 bit windows xp in a remote desktop session. Windows 7 machine with a local ricoh / aficio 1045 b & w multifunction printer attached. Works fine, uses 64 bit printer driver. This computer connects to a windows xp machine (32 bit) using remote desktop session (terminal services).

On the xp machine, i installed the 64 bit printer driver via printers and faxes -> server properties - drivers - add driver. I can see the driver there, successfully installed (have rebooted, etc). Despite this, the printer will still not show up when rd session is run. In event viewer, i can see there's an issue with it finding the correct driver.

I've used the terminal server printer redirection tool in the past to solve these problems (tspdrw.exe) which works great. The correct 64 bit driver is not listed as a choice when scrolling through options to reassign the driver. Hopefully that is clear, not sure what i am missing.

Desktop Freeze When Programs Work Behind Desktop

Windows 7 desktop freeze when all other programs work behind desktop. When using any program, the desktop freezes so no icon can be selected/program opened. The only way to clear the freeze is to shut down. If however one chooses to use a program behind the desktop - it works fine. Anyone ideas how to prevent shutting down as the solution? I haven't heard anything like this on any other platform. At 1st, i thought it was a wireless freeze matter.
