Install Upgrade Product Key Blocked

I have been using windows7 since the start of this year. Yesterday my computer crashed, likely from having two many applications open. This happens every so often. Even the background photo went away for the first time ever. Today when i restored to a previous windows from the day before i had a message that i may not have a legal copy of windows 7, so i went through the process of validation. I entered the same product key i entered months ago and windows still blocked it. Where do i go from here?

Install Upgrade - Product Key Has Been Blocked

I've reinstalled windows 7 ultimate many times due to the failure of my computer, but i'm getting this message whenever i enter the product key:"the product key you typed has been blocked from use by microsoft"i'm then given 4 different options to choose. I tried doing the activation over the phone but that just turned into a wasted call because it rejected the number i entered after following the on-screen instructions. So what can i do to activate my genuine copy of windows 7 ultimate?

Install Upgrade Key Blocked - Scammed?

Been running the release candidate for as long as i can and have been very happy with windows 7. So, when the rc expired i purchased windows 7 ultimate so i wouldn't be downgrading my install. However, after 4 days of using it, i'm not receiving a windows activation error, where it says that the product key i have typed in has been blocked. As i recall, the packaging was all intact, nothing missing nor any stickers torn (i'm very skeptical about this sort of thing, especially when it is $300 down the drain if something goes wrong).

So, i'm thinking i was scammed. Don't know how, but i've typed the product key in 3 times and checked that it's correct. My question then is whether there is a way to get my windows 7 ultimate without paying another $300.

Product Key Blocked

I have just installed(once again), my windows 7 ultimate on my recent formatted computer, because i got some problems so i had to do it. The problem is that i changed my video card because the other one stopped working. Now i put the cd key and it says that microsoft have blocked the cd key for use, and i will have to put another in 3 days. I think this is happening because i binded my cd key with my hardware when i had the another video card, so what can i do now? Where can i change it? The only hardware piece that changed was the video card, the other stuff is all the same.

Product Key Has Been Blocked

Yesterday i installed windows 7 (32 bit) in a virtualbox virtual machine; but the machine got corrupt; so i reinstall windows 7 again, today. I could not enter my product key, so i did the "slmgr. Vbs /ipk product key" then "slmgr /ato" (without quotes) and a few moments later a message came up saying that "the activation server determined that the specified product key has been blocked. "This is a legal copy of windows 7 bought at christmas 2009. (Which *** me off because i did not pirate it. )This is why i love apple; no product keys to worry about. (But i need windows 7 for some win-only programs. )I can see a lawsuit arising because of this issue effecting even legal copies.

Upgrade Product Key With Clean Install

I removed my previous post because i thought i had solved the problem, but i was incorrect. To make a long story short, i have a laptop that came pre-installed with windows 7 starter edition. It was not accompanied with a cd or dvd to reinstall windows. I had to reformat the hard drive for unrelated issues, and was stuck without a computer. I had purchased a windows home premium upgrade through the current college student promotion and tried to use that product key, but discovered it would not work for obvious reasons. I'd like to speak to someone about providing both of my keys (the windows 7 starter key on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop and the windows 7 hp upgrade key) to facilitate activation of my install.

Install Upgrade - Product Key Not Valid

I am a graduate student at at univ. Of maryland, college park. Until around a month ago, i was using windows vista, but it kept giving me problems and viruses. So, i decided to switch to windows 7. The windows 7 cd is available at subsidized rates for staff members at the university. Since i am a teaching assistant, i could avail of this discount. Although i had asked for the upgrade cd, when i was installing windows 7, the cd asked me whether i wanted to upgrade an existing os or install a fresh copy.

I was not aware that the upgrade cd cannot be used for fresh install. I thought that if the upgrade cd cannot be used for a fresh install, then the cd would not give me the option of a fresh install. But since it did give the option, i decided to erase the windows vista files and install windows 7 afresh, since windows vista was giving problems. So, i installed windows 7 ultimate afresh, and i was asked to activate it. Its been about a month, and when i try to activate it, it says that the product key is not valid (that is, it can only be used for upgrade) and hence i am not using a legal windows copy.

But i was not told that the cd can not be used for fresh install while installing, and was given an option to either upgrade or install afresh, which resulted in me deleting my original windows vista files. I immediately contacted the university it helpdesk, but they do not have the fresh windows 7/vista cds for graduate students, they only have update cds, and advised me to contact microsoft. What should i do now? Can i get a new product key?

Upgrade Product Key Vs Clean Install Issue

Recently i purchased a copy of windows 7 professional and installed it onto a linux/unix system. After the instillation was completed, the product key i received would not work claiming it was an upgrade key. Although having it install on this non-windows computer so well, i can't believe upgrade/clean install are so vastly different that they require different product keys. There are also no options for telephone activation for some reason. Does this mean i'm officially forced to buy a whole new copy of windows 7 just for a product key?

In january i got a free windows 7 starter disk in the mail. Last month i upgraded to windows 7 ultimate for like 100 bucks at the store. Last week i had did a whole reformat thing to my computer cause it was acting up really bad and when i restarted the computer as windows 7 ultimate it asked for me to put in my product key again that i got from the store. I tried that and it wouldn't work. And the computer says i still have 22 days left to activate windows 7. Any ideas? I tried the free starter product key as well . No luck. And i no longer have the free windows starter disk either or product key for windows ultimate cause i accidentally shipped them in the mail with household goods back to the states, where im being stationed next.

Product Key Is For Upgrade Only

Problem entering ultimate upgrade keyi purchased windows 7 ultimate upgrade on dvd and ran anytime upgrade to install it. The key was entered at this time. All seemed ok, ultimate worked fine. Now i need to activate ultimate but when i enter my ultimate key i receive a message saying that i can only use this key to upgrade not a clean install. I have not performed a clean install, nor do i want to. The original key for 7 starter is not accepted either. The window 7 ultimate upgrade disc appears to be genuine from a reputable dealer. I now have a message on my screen saying this windows is not genuine. How do i fix this ?

Upgrade Version Product Key

I have a laptop and a netbook, one legitimate vista key, one full retail win 7 key and one upgrade retail win 7 key. My question is this: currently the full retail version is installed on my laptop and is activated. I have also installed the full retail version on the netbook - this is awaiting activation after changing the laptop (to which the vista key belongs) to the upgrade version.

My question is - can i just change the installed product key on the laptop from the full version to the upgrade version without having to re-install vista first and then doing the upgrade? If you find my response helpful, please click on the "vote as helpful" button!

Upgrade Product Key And Language

I'm trying to finish upgrading my network to windows 7 (i've upgrades 2 at the official release), so i bought a family pack upgrade. But the family pack was only available in french (no english copies left).

Can i use the product keys from the french family pack to activate english installs? I already have english upgrade media from the previous upgrades, so it's just a question if the keys will activate?

If i can't activate an english install what options do i have? Is the french family pack of no use to me?

Activating With Upgrade Product Key

I bought and downloaded a clean install of windows 7 professional 64-bit. Installed and activated onto my desktop no problem. However i did not realize that windows 7 could only be installed on one computer. As such, i installed it onto my laptop, and after 30 days was deactivated. I want to activate it and am wondering if a product key from an upgrade would work? I want to find out for sure before i spend the money on a product key that will be incompatible.

Install Product Key Not Valid Problem

My wife recently purchased and installed windows 7 on her pc, and i installed it shortly after. The product key didn't work so i found a universal one on the internet that seemed to work fine. Now i am being alerted or warned that the product key is not valid and i need a new one, or something to that affect. Cant the owner use the product key on more than one computer? Do i need to uninstall it and revert back to vista, or buy another one and use that key? I want to keep windows 7 but i don't want to have to reinstall it again, it took too long. Any recommendations or solutions?

Win 7 Upgrade Product Key Was Invalid

I upgraded my computer from windows 7 home to windows 7 pro, and the product key was invalid. I have installed the pro copy into another computer, which now has windows xp pro on it, not windows 7. I want to transfer it to this computer, so i used windows anytime upgrade, typed in my product key, and it said it was valid. 3 days later, it popped up saying that activation had failed, and the product key was invalid. I retyped it, hoping that was the problem, and no, it wasn't. I used the phone activation option and when i said "2" by mistake, they hung up-well, not really, because it was automated.

I want a real person on the other end, and i want to ask if they could remove it from the old computer. Until then, does anyone know how to undo an upgrade? I tried to upgrade to windows 7 home by typing the product key on the bottom of the bottom of the new computer, but because it was home, it said that i couldn't downgrade. Again, anyone know how to undo an upgrade?

Trying To Reinstalled Win 7 But Product Key Is For Upgrade Only

Here's what happened:i had windows vista that came with my computer. I purchased the online upgrade to windows 7 ultimate. I wanted to install linux on my computer, but it needs its own hdd partition, and i was unable to shrink the windows partition to allow me to create another partition for linux.
To get around this, i wiped my system, set up two equal partitions, installed linux on one, and borrowed my buddy's windows 7 install disk to install it on the other. After i installed, i tried to active, and got an error message saying my product key is for upgrade-only, not fresh installs.
I legitimately purchased windows 7, but because i didn't know my product key was for upgrade-only, i am unable to activate it. How can this be fixed?

Product Key Not Compatible With Anytime Upgrade

So i have home premium installed on my computer. I recently got my hands on a perfectly legal copy of professional. It isn't an anytime upgrade its the install dvd. So i tried and update and that didn't work. It told me i needed to do an anytime upgrade, however when i enter the product key it tells me that i entered a key for an edition of windows that is not compatible with anytime upgrade. So my question basically is. How can i upgrade to professional using the product key that i have?

Invalid Product Key When Upgrading Or Clean Install

I have done many windows version upgrades and clean installs. I have purchased an upgrade version of win 7 specifically for use on a macbook pro using vmware fusion. I have tried both upgrading a copy of win xp and a clean install. Both attempts give me the message of "invalid product key" when i get to that point of the install. It does not allow me to finish the install. I have retyped the product key multiple times for each. This purchase was from office depot and looked previously unopened. I have not seen a satisfactory method for correcting this on the microsoft site or in the forums i have been to so far.

Upgrade To New Hard Drive - Product Key Not Valid

My hard drive crashed - trying to install windows 7 upgrade to new hard drive - product key not valid. I upgraded my computer running vista to windows 7 with an upgrade disk - no problem. My hard drive crashed so i now have a brand new hard drive in the computer.

I boot from the windows 7 dvd but of course the product key is invalid because there is no operating system on the new hard drive. Is there a way to get around this without having to install an operating system on my new hard drive first?

Activation Product Code Has Been Blocked

I purchased a retail copy of windows 7 ultimate and installed and activated the 64 bit version successfully. After a couple of weeks, i received a message to say that build 7600 copy of windows is not genuine. However i'm still receiving automatic updates. The packaging appears to be the same as shown on the microsoft website as being genuine and also the disc has the holograms including the "microsoft" and "genuine". I have tried to validate the software and get the message that the product code has been blocked.

I have been on the windows script host and get the following:

Partial product key: dqtc2
Activation id: a0dce89c-3304-4157-b61c-c8ad785d1fad

Activation Key Is Blocked

I bought 64-bit win7 in october thru the win741.com school program via download. I installed it at the time in a dual-boot configuration since it was going to take me a while to move programs & data to it (was going from 32-bit xp, had too much stuff that wouldn't run). I installed it & activated it no problem.

Eventually, i got fully moved to it & deleted the xp. About 10 days ago, i got what appears to be major ntfs corruption (machine wouldn't boot, if i put one of the drives - hardware 3ware raid1 - in another machine it didn't recognize a valid file system, etc. ). So i have rebuilt it, but it wouldn't take my key as valid during the install. I thought it was odd, but i didn't realize what was going on at the time. It's because it's an upgrade key and i no longer have xp on this system.
So now i have perused various websites and found 'workarounds' for getting it activated doing a clean install with my upgrade key.

But none have worked. And in fact, the last one returned the message that my activation key has been blocked! It's only been used/activated one time, on this same hardware, so i imagine it's the repeated attempts at activating it. I cannot find a number within the os to call ms about this. I can provide order details, key, etc.

Who do i contact, how do i get this resolved? If i have to install xp again and do a clean install while it's on there, i guess that's what i have to do. It's ridiculous, though. But it appears my key is no longer going to work. I am worried that i have been permanently locked out of what i paid for.

Genuine Win 7 Key Blocked

Ok this is somewhat a long story but here it goes. I was installing a system driver for my motherboard that was released today. During the installing my computer froze and i had to reboot. Upon my reboot all of my usb ports stopped working as soon as, i hit the log in screen. I had no way to log in or control my computer as soon as i hit the log in screen. The system did not recognize that anything was wrong so i never was prompted to repair my os. I lost my windows 7 cd a while back though i had a backup on my hard drive i had no way of reaching it.

So i got a back up cd off my roomates computer. I tried to use it to repair my computer no detection of my hard drive or windows install as i later learned it was a home x32 version. So i got a x64bit backup from his computer which was also windows 7 ultimatex64. I installed windows on a different drive than my own so i could recover my backup off my computer. So after installing his backup and i recovered and burnt my back up cd, then i rebooted.

The setup screen prompted me i installed my raid drivers and tried to repair the drive, it would not even detect that i had a windows install on my raid nor my restore points however it said i had errors with my startup and i let it attempt to repair. Once again i got to my original windows 7 install log in screen and all my usb's were still disabled. So i decided to reinstall over the top of my original windows and planned to do a restore previous version once i got in to windows.

So all went well i got in to windows and highlight my windows folder to restore to 3 days before the system driver install but the option to restore was greyed out. I figured i must have to activate my windows and upon typing in my key i received a message saying my key has been blocked by microsoft. I bought a windows 7 ultimate x64 version over 5 months ago. It was certified as genuine from when i bought it up till today. It has been verified various times throughout those months.

I have been regularly updating my computer, verified on microsoft's download site as recently as 4 days ago, registered to my live account. I am 100% sure this is a legit key. I must have went through 5 startups / partial installs, 3 full installs but only 1 attempt at trying to activate my key. Why has my key been blocked i own my copy, no one else has ever got a hold of my key, it is only on my computer, i only tried to activate from my personal back up installation. What is going on? Why has my key been blocked?

Key Was For Upgrade And Not For Clean Install

When i purchased windows 7 online from the ultimate steal, it wasn't clear that it was an upgrade until it was too late and i'd already paid for it. Since it was intended for my brand new tower i have no previous operating system to upgrade from. I managed to do a fresh install regardless from a bootable disk. When i went online to enter the product key, it told me it was for the upgrade and not a clean install. I have 27 days to enter a product key. The reason i got it online was because of the offer for students. Being a student i can't afford to pay for a whole new operating system again and was wondering what i could do to avoid this?

Upgrade Vs Clean Install Key Fix

I have a feeling this is just a rant that will fall on deaf ears, but i would hope that someone at microsoft sees this and realizes that windows 7 has not made things simpler. Just about every version of windows since 95 has allowed upgrades. Those discs would require the presence of a previous version before installing, or if installing a fresh version, would simply ask for a key or previous install disk.

I just spent the better part of a day wasting my time to install a fresh copy of 7 that i now can't legitimately activate because my copy is 'upgrade' despite the fact that i own windows vista. This is ridiculous. Is there anything i can do to get my install to ask for my underlying key? Maybe it's time to cut the cord and go to linux, or perhaps just switch to mac. At least they have a straight forward licensing policy that won't leave me hanging.

Re Enter Activation Key - Product Key Invalid

I've just purchased a new pc and now using the original software of windows 7. That operating system has been used before on my previous pc, but i took the hard drive and put it into my new pc slot which makes my previous pc left with no hard drive. I installed the software using the original copy and try to re-enter the activation key, but it does not work, what should i do? I though that it will work because i am still using my previous hard drive.
