Os Installed In Wrong Partition

I've recently installed windows xp home edition to my pc. It was only after a few days i've noticed my os was installed to my last partition (g:), which is only 4 gigabytes, when it supposed to be on drive (c:). I made 5 partitions by the way. Does this also contributed to the reason my monitor turns to power saving mode few minutes after playing games? I wanna know what should i do to fix this? My knowledge on computer systems are near to none by the way.

I have a feeling copy and paste to drive (c:) ain't gonna work, probably one of the dumbest ideas i have right now. I'm really hoping there's a way to fix this without having to format my pc.

Installing To Wrong Drive / Partition

This is the third windows 7 install i've done this week. The other 2 went perfectly fine. I have done over a thousand installs of various o/s and i've never had these issues. When trying to install windows 7 to a 500 gb sata drive the installation can never complete. It typically gets stuck in the "completing installation" part of the install. When i go in the repair section of the install, i can see that it was installed on f: instead of on c:.

I had another drive attached which contained 2 partitions for d: & e: which is why it picked f. In the beginning of the install, it advises me that windows may create a partition for system files, which it does. That partition is assigned to c: and the o/s goes to f:.

This happens no matter what i do. I have reformatted so many times i lost count. I have created the partitions myself, i've let windows do it, and i've tried to just install to the drive without creating any partitions before hand. I have updated the bios as well.

Nothing is working. I can't get it to install, i can't get it to boot, i've attached it to another computer and formatted using windows and other formatting software programs. The bulk of the install seems to happen. I can see the files on the drive when i attach it to another machine. But the damn thing will not boot and i can only assume it's because the master boot table is looking for the o/s on c: but it's really on f:. But i can't seem to get that, or whatever it is, corrected.

The hardware in the machine is all new within the last year and has been used without trouble, to include running the windows 7 rc1. All hardware specs meet the minimum requirements for windows 7 by far. I don't know why windows is allocating the files to the partitions the way it is. It takes 100mb from the drive and gives it to a partition for system files and makes it c: and the o/s f: every time.

Wrong Language Installed

Somehow while i was installing win 7 i ended up getting ukrainian installed. It only was visible on the calendar. All the rest of the screens and dialogue are displayed in english. I changed the calendar settings and now everything is in english.

Here is my problem. When i try to install office 2007 the dialogue window is in ukrainian. How do i fix this?

Since writing this i have checked region and language account settings. In advanced/copy settings i found ukrainian in welcome screen options. I changed everything to english and restarted. The issue is still there.

The opening dialogue box for office 2007 is still in ukrainian.

Second Monitor Wrong Side

I have windows 7 rc installed with dual monitor, works great. The only issue is that to access the second monitor i have to move the mouse pointer to the left direction. I hate that. I would like to move the mouse to the right to access the second monitor. Is any way that you can change the direction to access the second monitor? As i am wright handed i found annoying feature having to move the mouse to the left to access the second monitor. I used vista previously and the second monitor was accessed pointing the mouse to the wright. Is any particular reason that the mouse needs to be pointed to the left in windows 7?

Wrong Product Id Key

Two days back i failed to complete activation for unstable network connection. Yesterday i tried again and found out that windows was activated successfully already. Today i checked control panel>system & security>system under windows activation, that product id doesn't corresponded the product key on the sticker back of the pc. I clicked change product key and entered correct key, saved it with positive result and then rebooted pc.

After i checked windows activation again. I found same wrong product id as before. What i should do to correct product key information?

Wrong Bit Version

I won a copy of windows 7 ultimate at a microsoft hosted seminar. When i opened it at home to install, i discovered that there was only a 64 bit version disc in the package. Since i have a dell 32 bit laptop running vista home premium, i cannot use the disc that i won. Is it possible for me to somehow exchange this unused disc for the correct version? I could provide you with the product code which has not been registered or used.

If exchanging the physical media discs is not practical, could you exchange the code to allow me to do an online upgrade path to any edition of windows 7? I don't need ultimate and would be happy with the standard home edition. I was told by a friend that this activation code inside the package would not work if i simply did an online up grade to 7.

Connected To The Wrong Network

When my father was setting up his new windows 7 pc he created a network connection that defaulted to "network 2". I had already established a network called "armadillo" that has two windows 7 pc's on it and wireless access. I can not get rid of the network2 connection nor can i connect to the armadillo network even though this pc sees that network in the network map.

Magicjack - The Wrong Volume Is In The Drive

When i try to open a page from windows mail, i get a box with the above caption. It reads" the wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume magicjack into drive g. "Has three choices to select, retry, cancel, continue. If you click on any one of the choices several times you then continue on to the page you have selected in the beginning.

How do i get rid of this box that is requiring this other step tp open pages? I have looked on line and found many others with the same problem with other installations so i know it is not the magicjack causing the problem. However, there seems that no one out there has a solution either.

Vs Filter Wrong File Version

I recently upgraded to windows 7 home premium from vista for the improvements to media centre. In order to get it to play mkv files which i use heavily i have had to download a codec package. I have tried to use both k-lite and the shark's windows 7 i am running a 64-bit system so i add on the 64-bit versions to them otherwise the mkvs will not play.

However whenever i go into my main video folder i get vs filter wrong file version pop up. It consistently pops up 3 times before allowing me to play the file. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 7 several different ways and have done the same to the codec packs and i still get it popping up. It's driving me crazy it appears i'm the only one in the world having this problem. Any solutions out there?

Media Center Guide Wrong

The guide in media center has been and continues to be wrong regarding the airing of the g4 show x-play. The guide indicates that the show is being aired weekdays at 8am and 8:30am pacific, when actually the shows unbeatable banzuke and whacked out videos air at these times. The guide also cannot distinguish between new and repeat episodes of x-play. The show airs new episodes three times a week (on various weekdays at 3:30pm pacific), but even though i have the series set to record new episodes only, it records every episode at 10am, 3:30pm, and 11pm.

Clearly, the guide information isn't indicating new versus repeat episodes. The result of this wrong guide information is 25 shows recorded per week (10 of which aren't even x-play) when only three recordings should be made. I've checked the guide on the zap2it site, and it is correct. It also indicates new versus repeat episodes of x-play correctly. So, media center isn't getting the right data from zap2it. I'm in kirkland, wa 98033, and use the comcast digital lineup. G4 is channel 136.

Power On Wrong Username Or Password

Everytime i turn on my laptop, i'm told 'wrong username or password' even though i didn't enter anything in. Next i get a screen with a user that i thought i deleted with a 'enter password' beneath it and a 'switch user' beneath that. When i press switch user it goes to a screen with the same deleted user and a 'other user', i have to put in my administration account details into the 'other user' button, then i'm finally let in. Why is this all happening?

Win 7 Connects To Wrong Network

So i recently changed to a netgear gigabyte router & now everytime we restart the computers they connect to the old "network 2" when it should be connecting to the new "network 3" and the only way to get it to connect to the right one is to unplug the cable then plug it back in and it connects correctly. Now i should be able to go in someplace and tell this stupid os to no longer connect to network 2 but when i click on the "connect or disconnect".

It opens the little box in the task bar, but only one network shows up because i only have one network, no wireless, no wireless card, don't have 2 nics and the only link send me right back to network & sharing screen that sent to to the damn box in the first place. It's a fresh install, not an upgrade & i don't have that bonjour thing.

Would somebody please tell me how to tell my pc to not connect to a non-existant network.

Wrong Format For Short Time

This is not properly a development question, but it is reflected in development -and i could not find a place to file bugs for windows 7. In windows 7 ultimate (i haven't tested with different versions of 7), when you set "format" in "region and language" to italian (switzerland) the short time is wrong. The default format is "h:mm tt" but

1) tt is ignored: the example shows for ex. "7:32" when it should display "7:32 p. M. "
2) "h:mm tt" is not the correct default, it should be "hh:mm"

Curiously, the date in the taskbar is in fact in hh:mm format regardless of this setting, and also .net's datetime. Now. Toshorttimestring() returns "19:32" in the example above. However other applications like mozilla thunderbird are influenced by this setting and resent from this bug (in a email program it's rather annoying when you can't tell 7 am from 7 pm). I would be thankfully if someone could tell me how to file a bug report as i couldn't find anything in connect or under my msdn.

Installation Failed - The Wrong Volume Is In The Drive

Windows xp to windows 7 installation failed. "The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume grmculxfrer_en_dvd". Trying to install a legal copy of windows 7 (not downloaded either, actually purchased disk). The disk is an upgrade disk and i am upgrading from windows xp (32-bit) to windows 7 (64-bit).

When i attempt to install it, when it gets to "expanding windows files" i get the error message "the wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume grmculxfrer_en_dvd into drive d:" and the installation fails regardless of whether or not i click "cancel" "ignore" or "continue". What is wrong?

I ran a system upgrade check before and everything seems to be ready for the 64-bit.

This question has been asked before but no solution proposed on this forum that i found. Everything is is so slow too! Just to get to the initial installation screen takes 20 minutes and when it begins installation it stalls at 0% for 30 minutes before it throws me the error. How can this be so hard to upgrade?

System Drive In Windows Explorer Is Wrong

I just installed windows 7 64 bit pro on a new computer all was well, until i connected to one of my network computes. Now when i open windows explorer my system drive is being showing as one of my network drives, not the one i opened on the network a drive from a different computer i didn't even browse to. Worse yet i turned off all the network drives and it still shows as my system drive on my windows 7 machine!. When i open a folder i see the contents of that network drive but of course none of the data can be opened because the computer is off.

I can not view the data on my system drive. I can not find my system drive anywhere but the computer is working. It is like the whole drive is hidden and an index of the network drive is being displayed as my system drive. And oh yes the name of the drive that is being show is the name of the network drive.

Big problem i can not get into my documents and settings folder. I am the admin, there is no password. Windows 7 thinks the documents and settings is on the other machine. The other machine is a winxp if that means anything. How do i fix this?

Wrong User Account File Names

I recently bought a new computer which had the "store demo" program mdx improperly removed (meaning "not"). So it took me while to figure out what the "kiosk" user was, a problem that i fixed thanks to this forum. However, i want to clear up some odd behavior when i set up the user accounts for our family (with mdx still in place). When i went in under my name there was a user folder named "tom" but my documents were being sent to a user folder named "compaq". The tom folder was empty.

I logged in under my son's and wife's names and the documents were in a folder with their user names. I attempted to fix this by renaming the tom acct to oldtom and creating a new acct called tom. When i logged off and signed on under the new tom i found out the documents were being sent to a user folder called "tom/compac-pc". Keep in mind that in both cases the name "tom" appeared when i clicked on the start menu in the lower left, not the wrong folder names.

I spent a bunch of time logging off & on 3 or 4 different user names last night and finally got the folder names right about 3 a. M. I wanted to make sure the folder names were right before i start migrating the files from our xp machine. But i find it a little disturbing that the folder names were completely wrong even if my user name would access the same folder repeatedly. Can anyone shed some light on this? Is this just an artifact of having mdx running and won't happen again?

Ie8 Internet Shortcuts Wrong Icon

I have ie8 and recently i’ve noticed that the internet shortcuts in the favorites drop down menu have a different default icon. For some reason the icon has changed from the normal white page with a blue e to a globe. I know that i did not make this change and the only thing i had done to my system, windows 7 os, was install the firefox web browser. I did not like the browser so i uninstalled it but the new icon issue is the same. I’m not blaming firefox at all it just was the only system change i had made before the issue started. I checked the dll file for internet shortcuts and found this:

I have not been able to get ie8 and windows 7 to start using the classic icon and would like to know if anyone has any suggestions? I have an older windows xp machine with ie8 and checked the dll file on that one and found that aside from the addition of the globe all the other icons are the same. I can change the image of an individual internet shortcut from the globe to the classic icon but after a restart it changes back to the globe.

I had an old hp computer with windows xp. The drive was portioned into two by the manufacturer. I recently changed the hard drive, motherboard and the processor. Then i loaded a windows 7 oem. I used an ide>usb adapter to read the files from my old hard drive but the windows 7 is only showing the system files but not the user files. How can i see and copy my old user files onto the new hard drive.

Clean Installation Issues - Wrong Volume Is In Drive

Clean installation issues results various transient faults - mostly hangs. One reoccurring message is "the wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume grmchpxfrer_en_dvd"

I'm using a retail version of windows 7 premium that i purchased tuesday night. I've tried on and off for the past three nights to install w7.initially, i had xp on the machine and installed w7 via the backup of the xp files and using the network for additional patches. The install hung towards the end after i entered a password for the user account (e.g. Drives dead, mouse/keyboard unresponsive, etc).

So i hard-cycled the machine. At this point i was able to log on, but the dvd drive or my second internal drive would not function. I figured something had went wrong with the install over xp and i had no issues with trying a clean install, so i went for that it next.

Prior to the first clean install i removed my second hd and all usb devices to minimize the hardware in play. Once i started running the clean install i've seen mostly hangs during the file extraction process (3%, 11% - haven't got to 62% yet :o) ). One error message in particular i"ve seen is listed in the title "please insert volume grmchpxfrer_en_dvd".

Some things i've tried: the package and disc were in mint condition when i purchased them so hopefully there are no issues with the integrity of the dvd. My machines dvd drive is in decent shape and i have recently installed other operating systems and watched dvd's without a without a problem. I don't believe the disc or drive are issues.

I've messed around with turning off the floppy, usb and ahci support in the bios. I've tried installing the 32 and 64 bit versions. I tried to access drivers off the gigabyte cd, but that didn't work so much. At this point i'm open to new suggestions :d

My hardware:
Gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l - http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=n82e16813128059
Wd raptor - wd360gd
E6850
Nvidia 8800 gt

Installer Put Boot Data On Wrong Drive

My computer has a new sata (c:) drive and an older ide (d:) drive that i use for infrequently used items. When i installed windows 7, even though i chose the sata drive to; 1)create the new partition, 2) format the partition and 3) install win 7. The install was successful and i was able to use the os. However, i couldn't restart without inserting the install disk. After some investigation, i discovered that the windows 7 installer had put the boot information on the ide drive.

Now i can set the bios to use the ide drive as the primary boot device, and everything works ok (windows runs from c: ok), but i wanted to remove the ide drive from the computer, since i no longer need it. So!  Is there any way to transfer the boot information either from the ide (d:) drive from or the install disk, to the sata (c:) drive, so that i can boot from the same disk from which windows actually runs?  I tried booting from the windows 7 install disk, opening a command prompt and executing the "bootsect.exe" file, but that didn't help (even though it indicated successful execution).

Partition Hard Drive

I got a new pc with windows 7 64-bit. The c drive has 578 gb of free space. I want to partition it so the c drive has about 100gb, and then my data drive will have 478gb. When i use the shrink volume utility in computer management, the most i am able to shrink the c drive is about 302gb. That will put the c drive at 276 gb, but i would like to get it down to around 100gb. Do i need to buy some partition software to do this or is there another way to try this in windows.
