Programs Start Problems

My computer (windows 7 home) crashed the other day and now it takes forever for any program i launch (eg. Of the desktop) to start. I have cleaned my computer and run full virus scans but it is still ridiculously slow. Its not that my computer is taking forever to start up, it just seems like it takes for ever for it to realize i want to open. Internet explorer, for example. It is bloody annoying and i hope someone knows what is wrong, please post a reply if you know how to fix it.

Get Programs To Start Minimized

I am running windows 7 64 bit professional with an asus p5k3 mb, 3. 0 ghz, 8 gig of memory. I did a clean install on a freshly formatted 500 gig segate drive. (Never had an operating system on it)  i have a verizon air card that is controlled by verizon's vzaccess manager. No matter how many times i change the run in properties to minimized, after loading once or twice, it always changes the setting to "normal", which of course makes it so that i have to click the minus sign to get it to the taskbar.

I had the same trouble with my blackberry manager software, but after about 10-12 times of making the change to start minimized, it finally does now. One of the first things i did after installing win7 was to install vipre before i even went online to activate windows, so i don't think it could be a virus.

Programs Requires More Than 1 Clicks To Start

I am running windows 7 ultimate 64bit, intel core i7 930 bloomfield 2. 8 ghz, 6 gig of ocz ddr3 1600 ram and a gigabyte ga-x58a-ud3r motherboard. With these basic components installed the system should be super fast no delays but oddly it is making me click icons 3-4 times to open the application or to change web pages on firefox or ie i have to click 2-3 times. I checked the mouse properties, found nothing that would impact this. I uninstalled the drivers and plugged the usb mouse into another port and still the same issue.

Start Up Programs Editing Tool

In vista, windows defender included an editor for programs that run on system start up. When i upgraded to 7 i remember that on the defenders' help section there was a topic about ditching the editor and it gave me a hint about an alternate program i could download. That was from a microsoft site but it was a semi official tool . Fter i installed it i clipped it to the task bar and although i used it quite often i never got it's name. I know it's on my pc but i can't find it thanks to an idiot pc technician who deleted my account and all it's info. I've searched every single program file single handed with no results. So now i'm bustin my head to remember the programs name. Can any 1 help me. ?

Slow Start Up And Missing Programs

I just reinstalled windows 7 (32 bit) on my desktop. The reason was that the original installation was acting up-slow start up and very slow response time. The new installation is probably even slower in the start up and is missing some programs. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes or more for me to be able to access any program or the internet. Once it does access a program it seems to be reasonably ok, but now i am missing all my games. The icons are there, but not the programs. The original installation had norton, but i changed to mcafee on the new installation.

Moved Target All Programs Under Start Menu

I moved the target where "all programs" under the start menu points to. How do i restore it? I recently installed windows 7 professional over windows vista home premium. A windows. Old folder was created on my hard drive which stored all my previous files. Once the installation was complete, i moved all of my files back to where they should be. However, my program files (c:program files and c:program files (x86)) were not showing up in the "all programs" list under the start menu.

So in an attempt to remedy this, i opened the "all programs" folder by right-clicking on it, right-clicked the programs folder, then on the properties tab changed the location target to point to c:program files. Unfortunately, this did produce the desired results. Each program folder lists all sub-folders and files associated with that program (not just a shortcut to the program itself).

So how do i restore it back to the way it was? The original programs folder is no longer there. Also, if you know of the right way to have my programs appear in the "all programs" list under the start menu, that would be much appreciated.

Pin Programs Back To Start Menu

On my old computer i had windows xp. If you dragged a program from the start menu to the desktop it just created a short cut. The program was still listed on the start menu under "programs". In windows 7 when i drag a program from the start menu onto the desktop it is now gone from my start menu all together. And if you decide to delete the shortcut from your desktop you're screwed. The program obviously still exists but i have to open it by different means. Am i missing something obvious here? Also, windows 7 does not allow you to right click a program and create a shortcut on the desktop anymore? Only taskbar?

Duplicate Programs Folder In Start Menu

I've noticed that ever since i upgraded from vista to windows 7 there is a duplicate programs folder in my start menu under all programs. It consists a duplicate of all the shortcuts and folders already in my menu. I remember a fix when i had the same problem a long time ago, where you go to properties of the start menu and uncheck the default program box. Solution explained here:

http://jen3ral. Wordpress.com/2009/03/25/vista-start-menu-duplicate-programs-folder/

However this solution doesn't work for windows 7 and i've gotten the same or atleast a similar problem again. Is there anyway to fix this?

Clean Up All Programs Shows In Start Menu

I am going from xp to 7. In the start>all programs listing all programs downloaded is listed. In xp i could go to "documents and settings", create folders and put files listed in all programs into separate folders. This resulted in very few folders containing the downloaded files. For example, i had files listed as "business", "security", "internet" etc. How do i accomplish this in 7 so that my all programs listing is primarily folders and all the downloaded programs. I hope i made myself clear.

Office 2007 Programs Do Not Appear In Default Programs List

I have both openoffice.org and microsoft office 2007 installed on my windows 7 computer and i would like to use microsoft office as the default for all files it can open but it does not appear in the default programs list.

In fact, except for microsoft office outlook, none of my microsoft office 2007 applications appear in the default programs list!

Openoffice.org does appear, and when i click on it in the list and click choose defaults for this program many of the defaults are already set to the equivalent microsoft office application. But there are some associations (such as text files) that are not correctly associated, and possibly others that i don't know about. I'd like to click on microsoft word and then click set this program as default so that it will automatically open all the files it can.

Cannot Start The Service Because It Is Disabled

System: windows 7 ultimate when i want to manually install a windows update or any other program (logged on as admin) i get this message:

'cannot start the service because it is disabled or because there are no running devices connected' (approximate because my windows dlgs are in dutch). Ll actions that require admin privileges in the config panel are disabled (although i'm logged on as admin). I even cannot download new signatures for spybot search & destroy. Starting services. Msc as admin is impossible (get above mentioned message).

Running it as regular user means you cannot start/stop a service. I suspected malware but scans with sas, spybot, ms security essentials, threatfire didn't show any suspicious activity. So, i'm out of solutions. Do i have to do a repair with booting the windows dvd or will it become a reinstall.
My system partition backup is too old (i know. ).

Windows Failed To Start

I have successfully installed windows ultimate 7. I think. I hesitate to say successfully because when i restart or shutdown and restart, more than half the time on reboot, the system i am installing windows 7 to resets and then comes to a "windows failed to start" screen.

At that point, if i choose to "start normally" it will - most of the time - start. On occasion, it will reset again, come to the "windows failed to start" screen again, i will chose "start normally" and it will this time boot. I thought at first it was a driver issue but i tried the install without the drivers and have the same issue. I have tried different keyboards, mice, etc. None of that helps. I have tried going into msconfig and unchecking "use original boot configuration". I read that this had worked in another forum with a similar problem. It was worth a try.

Ie8 Start Up Error

Recently (as in the last 7-10 days) i receive the following message after boot up when launching ie8: "your last browsing session closed unexpectedly. I am given the choice of re-opening my last session or going to my home page. This only happens the first time i launch ie8 after booting up. I have tried most of the common fixes such as reset ie8, delete browsing history, delete hashed values from registry (.microsoft/internet explorer/recovery/active) all to no avail.

I also tried to disable all ie8 add-ons. When i went through tools/internet options/programs it didn't work. When i tried starting ie8 via start/all programs/accessories/ie (no add-ons), it worked like a champ. Clearly some add-on is still running but i can't see where.

I am running windows 7 on a fujitsu life book a1130, intel duel core, 4 gb of ram.

Office 2007
Norton internet security 2010
Norton utilities 14
Adobe reader 9
Adobe air
Adobe flash
Roxio creator
Cyberlink make disk
Cyberlink power director

As i mentioned, i tried disabling all add-on's but i think i am missing something.

Any ideas?
