Pci Nic Seen In Bios But Not In Win 7

I have a dell e521 pc running windows 7 pro 32-bit. Up until an electrical storm that affected the onboard nic, everything was fine. For the time being i plugged in an old motorola usg wireless port and installed the winxp drivers for it. It is working. But. I want to go back to a wired lan because there are benefits to my doing that. I ordered and received 2 pci 32-bit cards. One is a trendnet and the other a rosewill.

They are meant for pci 2. 2 and my machine indicates it has pci 2. 3 expansion slots. Slot number 4 (1 and 2 arepci exp and mini) recognizes the nic in the bios as a network card. I disabled the on-board nic. When i boot, no network device shows up in device manager. Actually the wireless motorola shows up. But i have had multiple nics in other machines with no problem.

Does anyone have an idea why windows 7 will not recognize the card even though the bios does? This happens for both cards. The chance of both being doa is quite small. Btw. They are both supposed to be windows 7 compliant. The user reviews on newegg indicate that other users have installed these cards on windows 7 with no problem.

Nic Problem

Purchased a new gateway dx4831-01e on 4/10/10. Has onboard intel 82578dc gb nic. Worked fine until sunday, when computer said no internet connector was available. Troubleshooter says driver issue. Device mgr says card is enabled and working. Found newer driver and updated - no change. Thinking it was the nic, i got a new intel ct gb nic - installed fine, win 7 found driver newer than that on the disk that came with the nic. Device mgr says card is enabled and working properly. Tried to test new card from tab under properties - says tcp/ip protocol not configured. Did ping 127. 0. 0. 1 - all good.

Network troubleshooter says the same thing for the onboard and the new nic: "there may be a problem with the driver for local connection x. " I am at a loss. I have been running my home network for years, am at least an "advanced" user, yet i have no idea what is going on here. Ideas?

Nic Power Management Changes After Reboot

We are running windows 7 enterprise, fully patched on dell optiplex 745, 755, 760, and 980 computers and i can duplicate this on all of them. I go into device manager -> network card -> power management. Check the boxes that we want. Close device manager. Reopen device manager to check that the change took. It did. Reboot. All power management settings for the nic are now unchecked. Normally we run a script to do this, but it doesn't matter whether you make the change via script or by hand, the power management settings always revert back to all three boxes unchecked after a reboot.

As long as the computer isn't rebooted or shut down, the setting sticks for at least several days, the longest time we've tested. I found one thread that said this was a known issue, but the link to the page came up 404. Any ideas? Here's the script, but like i said, it doesn't matter whether by script or by hand. On error resume next

Const wbem flag return immediately = &h10
Const wbem flag forward only = &h20

Belkin F5d8053 V3 Wireless Usb Nic Installing Driver Problem

I just installed windows 7 64bit on my computer. I obtained drivers for the 64 bit version for all my hardware before i did the installation. The driver  belkin provided won't install properly. I opened the nic and it has what appears to be a ralink ra2770f chip in it. I poked around on the internet a bit and tried the driver from the ralink web site which was suggested. No luck. I went to best buy to see what wireless usb nic's they had which would be supported under win 7_64; they didn't have any. I am running all the latest software/bios from intel for my board. Same for my other hardware.

What can i do to get my belkin wireless adapter to work?  Everything else works just fine.

Pci Memory Controller

Recently, i opened my computer in order to clean it with a vacuum cleaner. But when i turned it on my monitor wouldn't turn on, so i plugged it in the integrated graphics port on my motherboard (sapphire amd 690v) and when i went to devices and printers tab, there was a yellow question mark standing, saying there were no drivers for the device. I searched for drivers, but i couldn't find anything. I have windows 7 ultimate. I do not know what to do, since this is the firs time something like this happens to me. By the way i have a ati hd4670 card in my pci slot. Any help will do, so thanks in advance.

Pci Modem In Xp Mode

I have an agere win modem (a pci card fax modem) in my computer, which windows 7 professional 64-bit has correctly recognized and successfully installed. However, the same can't be said within xp mode. If i install a standard 56k modem, it shows the modem as external and doesn't respond. If i use the driver for the modem that's correct for windows xp, i can make xp mode install it and identify it correctly, but then in modem properties, it's shown as "nonfunctional, " which it is.

Is it even possible to use an internal fax modem in xp mode? (I have an old fax program that i'd like to use, winfax basic edition 10, which is incompatible with windows 7 64-bit but appears to be compatible with xp mode. )

Moschip Driver ( Pci Card )

I was reviewing issues with my pc and one message said  that win 7 had installed a driver for my pci parallel adapter, but suggested using manufacturer software. The card installed and worked fine so i was unaware this until yesterday. I proceeded to load the disc and instructed the device manager search d drive for the driver. Windows responded with the message that the driver is up to date, but the driver on the disc is two years newer than the one windows installed. What if anything did i do wrong?

Pci Memory Controller Under Win7

Under "device manager" there is a device called "pci memory controller" that has a yellow sign on it. During normal investigation it says that there is no driver installed, i let windows 7 try to find a driver for me automatically and it asked me to download "intel turbo memory" from intel site. I tried to install this driver and it tells me that i need a newer version of windows. I thought that windows 7 was the newest version, obviously intel doesn't think so, or maybe they know something that the rest of us don't.

I have tried to install the driver under compatibility mode for both win xp and vista, no joy.

Is there a fix for this?

Pci Dss Compliance Password Requirement

I am a windows administrator on a small domain in a bank. 2 roots and 9 children. And i have a requirement from our security department to enable the password complexity on the group policy for the users. However, since we are using so many applications, the users already have a good number of passwords to remember and don't want to put a complex addition to them. So, they asked if it is possible to force the password to be alphanumeric only (letters + digits), no need for special characters nor caps or smalls.

Microsoft windows 2003 has the complexity option, but if enabled then it must meet 3 categories mentioned in this article

So, is it possible to have a password enable with minimum alphanumeric and not what mentioned in the article above?

Bfg Tech 8400 Pci Card Not Recognized

This card was working on a system that i upgraded to windows 7. Installed new motherboard and hard drive, installed windows 7 (new) and i get a reduced sized window only out of the dvi side of the card, if i unplug the second monitor plugged into the vga side of the card the no signal message comes up in that monitor, plug it in and it goes away with a black screen. So it seems the monitor knows that its connected to something. Windows only shows a single monitor (vgasave) with no display adapter section in device manager.

Can't adjust anything with this, no refresh rate . Nada. Installed all the latest msi motherboard drivers/bios updates, nada. New hard drive failed, installed windows 7 again on a new hard drive, same problem. When i try to install the nvidia drivers, it winds up saying that there isn't any hardware to install drivers for. Not sure what to try next? The only abnormally i see in the device drivers section is a yellow exclamation point by pci to pci bridge. Not sure what that means.

Ati Pci Video Card Error Code 43

I recently upgraded my system to windows 7. I have an ati firemv 2200 pci (non-express) that i use to drive my 2nd and 3rd monitors. The card previously worked under my xp configuration. The windows 7 compatibility center listed the card as compatible. I have attempted to use multiple versions of the catalyst driver with no success. Currently i am trying to use the ati version 8. 253. 200. 1 driver, and it is giving an error code 43 in the properties window. My current radeon x800 that i am using for my primary monitors is working fine. I would really like to get my 2nd and 3rd monitors working again.

Standard Dual Channel Pci Ide Controller Driver

I am attempting to install the windows 7 rc onto my pc. The compatibility check is fine so i try the install. I choose custom because i want a fresh start, not an upgrade. When i select the hard drive (one drive, one partition), it says that "windows cannot be installed on disk 0 partition 1". The details say:

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. Windows needs the driver for device [standard dual channel pci ide controller]. Click 'load driver' and load the required device driver. I tried copying the drivers that xp pro is using with no luck. I copy them to a flash drive and then select them in the install ui. It then just goes back to the same message.

Dell 5150 Problem With Intel 537 Pci Modem

I have a dell dimensions 5150 with upgrades that i can list out as needed. I recently upgraded os from win xp-32 to win 7-64. So far all things are 'a' okay with the exception of the internet losing it's connection very randomly. The only way that i've been able to get the internet back is by re-starting windows. The internet to this pc is hard wired to a d-link dir-655 router that hasn't had any issues but for the record my firmware is utd and i've moved my cable to a different port on the router and still same problem. I then checked driver updates. See images below-apparently there is a problem with this pci modem driver and i can't find any details about it on the internet.

Furthermore, i don't even know if it would be a source of my particular problem. The network adapter intel(r) pro/100 ve shows no errors but i thought i might flash the driver anyways just to be sure. However according to this adapter only has 'in box' driver support for windows 7 therefore there isn't much in the way that the site offers as far as downloads. I'll stop here in hopes that i have provided enough info for someone to help get this sorted out. If not i'll provide as much info as i can.

Atheros Ar8121/ar8113/ar 8114 Pci-e Driver For Ethernet Controller

In my event viewer, administration log i am getting constant warnings which state, "name resolution for the name isatap. Rn. timed out after none of the configured dns servers responded. " Upon running the network troubleshooter, it points to the ethernet controller, leading me to believe i need an updated driver for the atheros ar8121/ar8113/ar 8114 pci-e. I have a windows 7, 32-bit computer with an asus motherboard p5kpl-am epu. I have been unable to locate this driver when going to the asus or atheros sites. I have found a couple of sites that want me to pay to receive updated drivers but i don't trust giving them my payment info.

This is discouraging to me since i had a local computer retailer make this computer for me and it is only a week old. I guess i could take it back to them but i would like to find this driver first if i could. According to my system info, the driver i am now using it ver. 1. 0. 0. 18, dated 8/23/2009. Any help in finding an updated driver would be greatly appreciated. Also, once i find it, do i just double click it to install? I am new to this kind of thing.

Install While In Bios Or In Xp

I don't know if i should install windows 7 before i load windows xp, while i'm in the bios (boot from cd drive) or should i run it while in xp, when i put in the disk it says install now, check compatibility online. On the directions that come with the disk, it says do it through bios, but then online it says to load windows xp and install it that way (where it actually pulls up the screen mentioned above). So my question is a- what is the difference, and b- which one do you use, and c- under what circumstances do you use it?

Bios Problems

I have a compaq presario i am trying to sell, i need to wipe the hard drive, some people have recommended using dban, darik's boot and nuke. I downloaded the . Any suggestions for the bios etc. Would be amazing, however as long as all data can be wiped from the computer, ill be satisfied.

Bios Memory Issue

I'm having memory issues; win 7 is crashing about every 36 hours. Running win 7's memory checker (f8 at startup) says i need to contact manufacturer (memory errors reported). After contacting manufacturer, he said i need to make sure (first and foremost) that my motherboard bios is up to date. Then i need to make sure other bios settings are correct as well.

In previous version of windows, going into the bios was accomplished by pressing f2 at startup; now, however, i have only 2 options when executing this procedure: (1) staring win 7 normally or (2) performing the memory test.

How do you get into the bios? Choosing win 7's help feature, it says either f2 or f12. But neither of these takes me to the bios any longer. My motherboard is nvidia, by the way. Oh, and by the way, once i get into the bios, how do i update?

Changing Bios Settings

I have a custom built computer that has been running the windows 7 release candidate. I've been trying to install the full version but have not successfully been able to boot from the cd/dvd drive. There are two options to prompt the screen before windows starts either press delete for bios settings or f12 for boot menu. First off, i'm not sure which one i'm supposed to so i tried both. When i went to the boot menu the screen was frozen and i could not select the boot first device. What am i doing wrong?

No Bios Screen On Startup

No bios seen on startup - wrong resolution when finished startup but have to put the laptop to sleep and re-wake to finish startup. Acer 5920g; black screen on start-up or re-start

- 5920g
- 8600m nvidia
- 2gb
- Vista home premium upgraded to windows 7 home

- On start up no bios details and screen stays black but i hear the windows start up sound
- When plugging in the external monitor unable to see laptop screen as a selectable option (so fn+f5/fn+f6 do not work)
- Started about 5 weeks ago.

- Put computer to sleep fn+f4
- Wake up and get resolution of 1200 by 768
- Re-set resolution to 1280 by 800
- If put to sleep and re-woken no impact continues to work fine
- Tried with an external monitor and works fine – can see the bios start-up routine

What has been done:
- Re-installed drivers sourced from acer and nvidia
- Refreshed the bios (source acer)
- Re-set the bios defaults
- Got confused with some many hardware suggested issues but convinced it is not a back-light or inverter problem

Will a reload back to vista or a clean install of windows 7 solve the bios post screen and resolution issues?

Bios Cannot See Any Devices To Boot

I performed a full hard disk encryption on my laptop using truecrypt. Now i cannot boot. Before i started i took the precaution to take a full image backup using norton ghost. I used the latest stable version - 6. 3a of truecrypt. I created a truecrypt rescue disk.

My hp laptop was running windows 7 ultimate (32-bit). The laptop contains 2 x 640 gigabyte hard disks from western digital - wd6400bevt blue scope 5400rpm - part number 591192-001 - model number wd6400bevt-60aort0. The system disk had 4 partitions before i started.

When i ran truecrypt i opted for: "encrpt the system partition or the entire system drive"; "standard truecrypt volume" i.e. No cascades; serpent encryption algorithm; the ripemd-160 hash algorithm; and 7 passes. The truecrypt program checked my parameter choices and did a test reboot without any error messages. The encryption process continued for 32 hours.

After the encryption finished with a "successful" message i was a little surprised that the program didn't suggest an immediate reboot. So i looked around on the disk. My file systems appeared normal. I was able to get into microsoft outlook and download new mail. I was able to browse my favorite sites on the internet. I was also able to look inside word documents.

So i decided to reboot. Since then i have not been able to get my system to run at all. I have had no luck using the truecrypt rescue disk; or a system recovery cd; or even the original windows 7 installation disk.

I get a black screen with a 4-5cm diameter blue disk displayed in the middle with the white letters, "hp". Down in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen it says "press the esc key for startup menu". Pressing esc does nothing, unless you press it 8-10 times, when it causes a "beep" noise to sound.

The problem is that the insyde h20 bios supplied by hp is unable to communicate with either of the hard disks or the cd drive; or a usb thumb drive. The bios program does talk to the keyboard.

I have tried a strategy to reset the bios back to default. I removed the battery and power cord from my laptop. Then held down the power-up button for 15 seconds to ensure any residual power had drained. Then i plugged the power supply back in, and hit the power up key. I still get the black screen with the hp logo and the press esc message.

I tried powering up and pressing a range of function keys.
F1 gives me a , "f1.system information" message.
F2 gives me a , "f2. Startup check" message.
F9 gives me a , "f9. Change boot device order" message.
F10 gives me a , "f10. Bios setup options" message.
F11 gives me a , "f11.system recovery" message.
Esc gives me a , "esc. Pause startup" message.
. But none of these options actually work.

To me this indicates that the bios programme is working partially and able to intepret keystrokes from my keyboard. But nothing else happens other than the whirr of my fan, the led lights displaying normally around my keyboard and the sound of my dvd/cd drive spinning up, and then slowing down again. It appears that in order to bootstrap my hard disk or even bootstrap from a bootable cd the bios needs to talk to one of the (now encrypted) partitions on my system hard drive.

I have tried re-seating the hard drive cables and contacts, and even swapping the hard drives over. I've probably voided my warranty by unscrewing the covers off the underside of my laptop to access these hard drives. I don't have access to another laptop or desktop capable of mounting my western digital hard drives. So i haven't been able to try the option of decrypting my system hard drive by that method.
