Laptop Periodically Gets Stuck At Welcome Screen

I have a brand new toshiba satellite laptop and it has windows 7 on it for it's operating system. I've done all of the critical and suggested updates from windows update successfully. Periodically i've noticed that when i power my laptop on, it goes through the normal boot-up cycle and then gets to the welcome splash screen prior to loading the desktop, and then never goes to the desktop.

It just stays stuck at the screen that says "welcome". If i power off the laptop and then start it back up, it will give me the option of starting in "safe mode" or "normally". If i choose normally, sometimes it will startup and work perfectly. Sometimes it may take a try or two (still getting stuck at the welcome screen). Any idea as to what is causing this?  This laptop is just slightly  more than two weeks old.

Pc Stuck At Login Screen On Normal And Safe Mode

I turned my pc on in the morning and everything loads up until i get to the login screen and i can't do anything. The mouse doesn't move, the touchscreen doesn't do anything, and the same goes for the keyboard. I've tried "safe mode" and the same problem occurs. I've checked for errors and tried to start at last known good configuration and the problem is still there. I booted into windows vista and it worked like a charm. However, whenever i go into windows 7 the problem is present. If anyone could please help, i would be very thankful.

Win7 Restarts On Startup Periodically

Thought it was the motherboard at first, but still sporadically does a restart within a minute or two of starting up, especially if i try to go into firefox or aim within that time frame.

The screen goes black, it says "no signal" then resets.

I check the minidump with windows debug and it comes back as the potential problem being "hardware", so i'm currently getting the replace motherboard checked at asus to see if it was truely a motherboard problem.

I asked a repairman at a local computer store and he suggested to reinstall windows from scratch, and when i mentioned that i upgraded from xp to 7 he said "even microsoft suggests to never upgrade, even from vista". That would not explain the hardware failure though.

Absolutely nothing else goes wrong if it gets past that that 2 minute mark, and the problem seems to be random: sometimes taking 2 days between restarts on startup, all the way to almost a month.

Did memory diagnostic and the memory is fine, hard drive is running fine, i updated the drivers twice on the video card.

This problem seemed to have been prevalent since i upgraded to windows 7, and i fixed up the registry with ccleaner recently.

Hp Laptop Boots To Blue Screen

Recently my stock hp laptop running single boot win7 64bit had a bsod going to sleep. Next boot resulted in startup repair which worked for about an hour and couldn't fix the problem. On closer inspection it seems a lot of files (20gb out of 100gb on disk) especially from the program files directory have been placed in a found. 000 directory. Does anyone have any ideas what happened? There is no minidump directory and no .dmp files. Is it likely to have been a hardware or software problem? Bios testing of the hard drive reports no problems. If i reinstall win7 will the same thing happen again?

Dual Monitors Not Working With Laptop Screen

I use dual monitors at work with my laptop using a docking station (2 free standing monitors); no problem with this at work. At home, i have 1 monitor and use my laptop screen as the 2nd monitor. It works, but then stops working whenever i shutdown my computer (the laptop screen is blank when i restart my computer). I was able to get it working again once by plugging in the monitor while the laptop was working. Now, i can't even get my laptop screen to work. I'm using a dell e6400. Thanks.

Laptop Auxiliary Screen Not Sized Correctly

I have just installed windows 7. I dock my lap top at home so i can use a larger screen. I can't get the larger screen to display all the information i see on the lap top. The edges bleed off, so i can't see all of the bottom toolbar, or the scrollbar at the the right of the screen. I have tried adjusting the resolution with no success. My large screen is asking for 1650 x 1050 dpi, but i don't have that combo in the screen res dialog box in 7. I also have tried adjusting the settings on the screen itself and get some results, but not a complete solution. Any suggestions?

Blank Screen When Connecting Laptop To Tv With Hdmi Cable

Blank screen when i connect my laptop to tv with a hdmi cable. I am trying to coonect my laptop ( dell studio 1555 ) to my sony tv ( bravia kdlw4100 ) using an hdmi cable. My laptop is running windows 7 home premium ed. I have 2 questions in this regard - first question is what display settings do i need to change on my laptop in order to get the output on the tv ?

Second question - while trying to get this stuff working i changed the following settings- graphic options -> extend > to digital tv. Since i changed this setting i am having problems getting a display on the laptop ( when the hdmi cable is connected ). Even if i remove the hdmi cable the screen still remains blank and i have to hard boot the laptop to get it working. Is there a way i can get back to my original display settings?

Stuck On The "welcome" Screen

Every time i try to start my computer and log into my administrative account, it gets stuck at the "welcome" screen with the blue wheel going around and round. Also, before today, my computer would make noise. Not a lot of noise, just some noise that let you know it was running. Now, it just sounds dead, but i digress. I am able to log in using a different account on this computer (non-administrative), however, it puts me at a disadvantage for being able to do any type of system restore as it always prompts me for my administrative password and upon entering it, my screen goes dark gray and my system freezes.

I've tried opening my administrative login in safe mode, but it runs a long list of codes then freezes and says, "please wait" at the bottom. Is there anything i can do without having to take my computer to be worked on or buying a new one? This makes me so angry because i bought this computer (dell inspiron 15) a year ago to the day.

Laptop Screen Doesn't Restart After Shut Off To Save Energy

I have a 2 weeks old lenovo laptop g460. When i leave the laptop alone it'll shut off the screen as a energy saving option but the screen doesn't restart when i get back to it. I've tried pressing esc, power button, ctrl+alt+del, clicked the mouse, the mouse pad, the screen on fn +f2 but nothing will restart the screen unless i do a forced shutdown and startup again. Sometimes i leave the laptop alone to do disk defrag using mydefrag, i am worried about system instability in the long run in addition to the sheer inconvenience it causes. Any idea how to resolve this?

Update Stuck At 18%

I have a problem with the installation of a windows update. It's set to check and install updates everyday at 3:00am. The problem is that in the task bar (the lower right side) it displays a "windows is installing updates" sign, and it has been stuck at 18% for the whole time. (A couple days now. ) The installing update window says it shows that "1 of 8 updates" are being installed. I tried to stop the installation a couple of times, but nothing would happen. It would just show the "stop installation" button faded, but it still shows the installing updates display.

I've tried to disable my firewalls (mcafee and windows firewall) and tried to stop the update, or redo the update, but it still hasn't done anything. I think it might have to do with a microsoft office update, because i was trying to uninstall the trial version of microsoft office today, but it wouldn't install, it just stayed without showing any progress of the uninstall.

The last updates that were successfully installed according to the windows update screen is 8/24/09, and it checked for updates today with no updates available for download/install.

Upgrade From Vista Getting Stuck At 87%

Windows 7 home premium (x32) upgrade from vista hp (x32) is consistently getting stuck at 87% in the "gathering files, settings, and programs" stage. The compatibility tool indicates no conflicts. I've uninstalled virus protection, tv tonic, itunes, and logitech quickcam (as previously indicated by the compatibility tester. ) It does say i should download an updated realtek rtl8187 wireless driver to install *after* win 7 is installed.

I've left it running up to 14 hours, stops at the same place (87%) every time. (Though the file count is different everytime, so the actual absolute number varies. (e.g. This time it's 503490 of 592438. ) C:windowssetupact. Log hasn't been written to since the install first began, and indicates no errors. Setuperr. Log is empty. Any ideas?

Update Stuck In A Loop

Problem: windows update constantly prompts me to "restart your computer to finish installing important updates". After restart i can boot successfully, but after a few minutes the "restart your computer" dialog again appears.

The update that appears to be triggering this is listed in the windows updates log file as:

Update for windows 7 for x64-based systems (kb980408)

     Installation status: pending
     Error details: code 80242014

No subsequent updates can be installed, as windows update indicates "windows update cannot currently check for updates, because you must first restart the computer so that a previous installation can be completed. "

Machine configuration:

Intel  i7 920 running at 2. 67ghz
6 gb ram, 64-bit windows 7 (came installed on the machine)
Os version = 6. 1. 7600. 0. 0. 65792
Os product type = 0x00000030
Computer brand = dell inc.
Computer model = studio xps 435t
Bios revision = a13
Bios name = default system bios
Bios release date = 2009-02-06t00:00:00
Locale id = 1033

Antivirus: symantec endpoint protection, version: 11. 0. 5002. 333

Approaches i have tried to address this error:

1. Using "uninstall programs" i have uninstalled this windows update and rebooted. After doing this kb980408 is no longer listed as being installed, and yet the reboot prompt continues to appear. I also did a full virus scan (no viruses) and also verified that there is plenty of disk space.

2.system restore. Unfortunately i don't have restore points going back far enough to when this first started happening.

3. Manually downloading and installing the windows update, then rebooting. I had hopes that this would update whatever registry entries are causing the problem, but instead all i have now is a second pending entry in the windows update log:

     Update for windows (kb980408)
     Installation status: pending
     Error details: code 80242014

Flash Game Movement Is Stuck

This problem is really starting to annoy me. For some strange reason, whenever i play any type of flash game that involves the arrow keys or wasd, the object that is being moved continues in one direction after a short time. There is nothing i can do to stop it. I have tried playing the same game on multiple web sites, but to no avail. What is weird though is that the arrow keys and wasd work fine while using programs like microsoft word and with non-internet games like command-and-conquer and world of warcraft. Please help me. I have already tried to reinstall macromedia flash player, but that didn't work.

I do have windows vista home premium

Upgrade Stuck In Reboot Loop

Received my win7 upgrade (going from vista 64 to win7 64) from arvato digital service, the 3rd party vendor handling hp's win 7 upgrade. After using their "insert this disc first" compatibility application, and an update of bios and i was set to go.

At some point during the installation (i really don't think it was at 62%) the upgrade restarted my system and i was stuck in the endless reboot loop i've read about. I was able to still boot vista. After trying unsuccessfully to upgrade 2 more times with the same results i've given up.

This took place on an hp dv-6 1230 laptop; vista 64; 4gb; core 2duo 2. 1ghz

I want to vent my disappointment with ms or arvato or hp, who knows which one is responsible. I just know that a day was wasted and the desired result was never reached. I know it could have been worse, but as a teacher with access to many impressionable minds, i am quite tempted to go on an all out assault and tell every student i teach to avoid ms. But what's the use? Just hugely disappointed is all.

I know there is a fix for the upgrades hanging at 62%, does anyone know of a fix for this reboot loop that occurs at the first point the upgrade opts to restart?

Upgrade Stuck In A Reboot Loop

I successfully upgraded from vista ultimate to w7 ultimate about a month ago. To cut a long story short. The other day i lost internet access after completely removing zonealarm free v9. After exhausting all known possibilities i chanced on a repair/upgrade install to hopefully replace any lost files. The installation started ok and after several hours completed all the file transfer process and then came up with the following error: "windows could not parse or process the unattended answer file for pass [specialize]. A component or non-list setting is specified more than once in the answer file. "

Clicked ok (which was the only choice) a black screen appeared with a message in the bottom right advising "this copy of windows is not genuine" which is untrue! Then it rebooted. Choices at reboot are windows 7 or rollback windows 7. Both lead to eventual automatic reboot.

How do i get out of this mess and hopefully restore my windows 7. Pc is an asus n50v notebook which came with vista ultimate 32 bit. Originally upgraded to w7 with asus supplied windows 7 upgrade disk. If i try to rollback - i get the error pop-up: the computer restarted unexpected lyor encountered an exception error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows click ok to restart the computer and restart the installation.
