64-bit Boot Delay On Logo

I wish i could pin down exactly when this started, but it became much more noticeable after installing an ssd. When the windows logo first appears there are about 2 seconds of disc activity. After this, the computer sits there animating the logo for about 1 minute. After this idle time, the disc activity starts again and i am at the login screen in about ~10 seconds.

If boot logging is turned on windows stalls at the screen that notifies me that it is in boot logging mode. (After an initial scroll of drivers). I have installed the operating system multiple times. I don't believe that the rc1 release of windows had this issue, but i cannot remember.

Problem: Delay On Boot Due To Drivers Files: Ndproxy.sys, Srv.sys, And Vga.sys

Recently installed a fresh copy of windows 7 x86 and x64 in separate instances to see if the problem of a two minute period between the "windows is starting" screen and the desktop. Neither had a visible impact. I looked around online and found how to create a boot log. The following are the drivers/services that could not be installed during my startup:

4 instances of ndproxy. Svs
1 instance of vga.sys (hadn't installed video card driver yet)
1 instance of srv.sys

After installing the necessary drivers and with no alert from the device manager, the boot time is still roughly 2 minutes. Right now i am at a loss on what to do. For reference my avg startup time in xp was around 10 seconds from the windows logo. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Multi-boot System Win 7 64-bit & Vista 32-bit On One Hard Drive

Multi-boot system windows 7 (64-bit) & vista (32-bit) on one hard drive - do i need two hard drives?I have an existing windows vista ultimate (32-bit) system installed on a 500gb sata hard drive, partitioned into 2 partitions (c: and d:). I would like to make the system multi-boot so that i can back-track to vista if i have a problem with win7.

One issue here is that i plan on multi-booting vista 32-bit and win7 64-bit on the same hard drive without touching the d: partition of the hard drive. I don't know if this is possible, but i'm interested to see if it is.

I've done some research and have found that win7 has many compatibility modes, so maybe i don't need to worry about keeping an installation of vista on my system? I just don't want to be "caught with my pants down" if something were to go wrong with win7, like if one of my programs was incompatible or something along those lines.

If i can't multi-boot vista 32-bit and win7 64-bit from the same hard drive, can i do it with 2 hard drives having one os on each hard drive? Or, am i being much too paranoid about this and should i trust microsoft on this one that win7 will not have any large compatibility issues with my most used programs?

For reference, here are some of my most used programs: firefox 3. 5, steam, adobe photoshop (versions 7. 0 and cs3), ie tester (for web development), winamp, trillian (an im and irc program), itunes, skype, mozilla thunderbird (for e-mail), and fraps (in-game video recording software).

I know that this is a lot all at once, but does anyone see any foreseen compatibility issues with any of these programs and win7 64-bit ? I'm also worried about the compatibility of some of my drivers with win7 64-bit, but i've heard that there have been leaps and bounds made with driver compatibility on win7 64-bit (as compared to the mess it was with xp 64-bit). Is this true?

Dual Boot 2 Hard Drives Xp 32-bit With Win 7 64-bit

I would like to set up a dual boot system with windows xp and windows 7. I have 3 hard drives in my system now, one as xp system disc, another for storage and one unallocated that i want to install windows 7 pro(64). I want to leave my xp installation intact for now. I have been trying to research just what i need to do to install windows 7 on that extra drive and i am seeing all kinds of conflicting answers. First, i have all my original operating system disks so i want to purchase an upgrade version of windows 7 pro.

Specifically i want/need to know will i have to install windows xp first on that empty drive before i install windows 7, or can i just insert the xp disc as proof that its an upgrade as i have done with previous windows installations. I would just like to know what i am getting into.

I am asking because i have seen conflicting answers, such as:-i need to buy the full version (lets be honest, the upgrade price is expensive enough) because it won't let me do an upgrade. This just doesn't seem right.

I have to install xp first on that empty drive before i can install the upgrade version. No mention what-so-ever of the windows 7 checking for a previous version of windows even when viewing detail installation instructions regarding installing windows 7 on a separate drive with xp installed first on another. 95% of installation instructions assume you are just doing an upgrade right on top of the old windows xp installation, maybe 4% a dual boot where you are partitioning a single drive and i think my eyes are starting to bleed from reading and sifting through all the tutorials that don't apply to me lol.

Windows Logo Test

I am using windows 7 professional. I am trying to install a program developed by one of our vendors for the image capturing. I could not finish the installation of that program as it stops saying "error 0". It could be the custom code used by the software developer. When i tried to install the same software on windows xp machine it gave a warning message 'the driver didn't pass windows logo test . " At the same point.

When i asked the xp machine to ignore that warning, the program got installed successfully. So i figured out that the problem is with the windows logo test. Is there any way to turnoff the windows logo testing on windows 7 for installing the driver softwares? Or you it could be any other problem?

Freezes On Startup Logo

I have windows7 home premium and am doing a clean install. The installation completes, but when windows 7 starts up for the first time, it freezes at the "starting windows" after the little balls have come together to make the windows logo. Keyboard strokes and mouse movements do not do anything, and i have no choice but to restart the computer by physically pressing and holding the power button. Windows recovery and repair doesn't fix it. I have a gigabyte ga-h55m-ud2h motherboard, intel i3-530 cpu, and 4gb memory, the boot drive is a sataii western digital drive. I removed 2gb of memory and tried the install again with the same result. What now?

Mouse Delay Between Typing And Using

I just got a new laptop with windows 7. I had xp before and this has never happened on any of my previous computers. When i enter text, it appears to suspend the mouse function from the touch pad for approximately 5 seconds. For example, if i were to go back to highlight or bold a section of this sentence, i have to wait for 5 seconds before the mouse will respond when i try to use the touchpad.

I find this very disruptive to my productivity, to start with. In addition, i find it also affects when i play a game as well, and this is just not acceptable! Is there a way to change this feature so that the touchpad and the keyboard are both active at the same time?

Logon Delay On Welcome Screen

When i logon to windows 7 (ultimate x64), the welcome screen stays on the screen for about 30 seconds before switching to the desktop. Other user accounts do not show this behavior. My profile is by far the biggest on the system (2. 7gb). I've read that there is a bug related to solid background colors, where the delay behavior is mentioned, but i'm using a desktop theme instead (also, reverting to the standard background did not solve ths issue). Does anybody have any other ideas? Can i use a tool like bootvis to analyze the logon process?

Shift Key Ignored After 1 Second Delay

I've on a windows 7 pc and would like my keyboard to do as it is asked. If i type 'hello world' quickly while holding the shift key down throughout, i get what i expect. If instead i pause for about a second before typing the world i get 'hello world'. This is not an effect i want. I often hold shift down for a while while highlighting text to cut or copy. If i hesitate, then the start point suddenly moves. Btw if i launch into virtual xp mode, the same effect is seen. Please help as this is very irritating and i've checked the 'ease of access' settings, which all appear to be off.

Mouse / Input Delay In Win 7

After extensive testing with benchmarking, and using the exact same hardware with the exact same drivers i have reached the following conclusion. Any input within the system in windows 7, takes 30-32 ms more to be processed. My system is an i7 975, with 12gb 1600 mhz ddr3 ram, a raid 0 configuration of 2 velociraptor 10, 000 rpms and an hd 5970 graphics card. Which is basically an apex of performance as of december 2009.

Why does windows 7 have this slightly noticeable lag? Would reinstalling help? Could it be due to any of the above hardwares?

Line-in Sound Delay While Recording

Line-in sound delay in windows 7 - how can i bypass the aspect of windows 7 that converts analog -> digital -> audio signals? I have a hardware setup that i have run exactly as it is on xp and did not detect a delay, and many musician forums describe this issue with windows 7. More precisely - i plug my guitar into my sound card, onboard or my additional pci card, either has a delay between when i pluck the strings to when i hear the sound and it is impossible for me to record.

Delay In Caps Lock Key

I've recently moved from a computer with vista to one with windows 7. There's a noticeable delay in the operation of the caps lock key, whether toggling on or off. For example, if i'm typing and the cursor is on the screen, and i inadvertently hit caps lock, the cursor goes away for a couple of seconds, i get a caps lock icon in the lower right of my screen, and i can't type nor toggle the caps lock key again until the cursor comes back. On the old vista computer, this was essentially intantaneous. Is this built into windows 7, and can i make a settings change or a tweak to change this?

Add Delay To Auto Hide Taskbar

Windows 7 taskbar on auto-hide, possible to add delay for hidden taskbar to reappear?Hello, i mainly work with my taskbar on top and with auto-hide on. The problem is if i am working with a maximized application and i try to close, minimize, or restore the window. My mouse cursor will sometimes miss and make the taskbar reappear from hiding. Is there any way to increase the timing in which the cursor can re-activate the hidden taskbar?I know it can be done with thumbnail previews of pinned items.

I'm hoping the same could be done to the taskbar either by software application or registry tweak to which i have not found a solution for yet to my specific problem. I am also aware that windows down and windows up will maximize and minimize the current active window, but i find it less of a pain to keep my right hand on the mouse at all times.

Speech Recognition Slow / Delay Problem

My question pertains to windows speech recognition (wsp). I am using a fresh install of win 7 pro on a brand new dell inspiron with a core i3 processor and 4gb ram, so i assume system specs are not the culprit here. When i say "correct x" (where x is some word or group of words), there is an unacceptable delay before the correction dialog box (bizarrely titled the "alternates panel") comes up. I mean 30+ seconds here sometimes, even when there are only a couple of alternates offered. There is a comparable delay when i choose one and say ok.

To clarify, when i give correction commans, the dialog on the small wsp window shows that it is receiving my commands immediately, it just hangs for a long time before acting on them. Has anyone else encountered a similar problem? I need to use speech recog due to rsi in arms, and i've previously been using dragon a lot. I thought i'd try wsp, and i've actually mostly found it superior in so far as training time, accuracy, and overall integration with windows (though not in ultimate tweakibility). However, this one problem is major enough that i'm leaning towards moving back to dragon.

Logitech G11 Keyboard Key Repeat Delay

I have been a user of the logitech g11 for about three months or so now, and i love it. Frankly, it's an awesome keyboard. Unfortunately, i have an issue with it. The '/@ key doesn't work properly - that is, it doesn't type anything until after the repeat delay has passed, at which point it repeats as normal. Basically, the first instance of the symbol i am typing never appears. I initially thought this was an issue with the keyboard itself - a hardware issue - but recently i used the keyboard on another user, and it worked as normal, leading me to conclude that it is a software issue - but whether it is caused by the os or its drivers i don't know. Dual Boot Boot Problem After Resizing Win 7

Boot problem on dual boot after resizing windows 7 (32bit) switched from drive w: to drive g: i have a dual boot system that boots into win 7 (64) (c:drive) or win 7 (32) (w:drive). I needed to increase the size of win7 (64) drive and in order to do so i needed to move the win 7 (32) partition. Now i can still boot into win 7 (64) with no problem but when i boot into win 7 (32) it windows states that it is not a genuine copy and it is actually on drive "g:"! Anyway to change it back to "w:" because i believe this is the problem.

Dual Boot - Move Boot Image To Second Drive

I have a problem with two different drives both running win7, one 32 the other drive64, on a dual boot system. I want to pull the win32 drive, but it also has my boot information for the win64 drive. When removed it will not boot. I have been working on this for 5-6 weeks. I want to remove the win7/32 and put the boot image of win7/64 on the second drive.

I booted from the win764 install dvd, and went to there pair your computer. The placethat displays the operating systems installed, none will show. I have tried bootsect from the command prompt. It seems to work, but tells me no partition on the second drive. Or on another attribute used, it can not find the path to the drive. I have tried rebuild bcd, fixmbr, etc.

Boot Takes Minutes, Will Boot In Safe Mode

When i booted up this arvo, the computer took 15 minutes to get to the log in screen. Upon clicking the profile image, i had to wait another 5 minutes of unresponsiveness for even the desktop background to display. Rebooted 3-4 times, still happened, booted in safe mode, (which is how i'm writing this) and initially thought it was msmpeng.exe that was causing me issues, so i removed mse once i finally managed to get it going in normal mode. I thought the problem was fixed when i rebooted, and i had about 4-5 minutes of normal speeds before it slowed right down and became unresponsive.

When the computer is running, the actual computer itself sounds fine (hard disk is chattering away) but when going slow and unresponsive it only makes noises every 1-2 seconds, if that makes any sense, as if it's under a really heavy load. Hard to tell because i cant open anything. Ran a system restore, didn't do anything. I need help soon! I suspect a driver issue, but i'm just speculating. Specs: windows 7 home premium 64 bit 6gig ddr3 ram i7-860 cpu ati 5770 gpu

Dual Boot - 1 Xp And 3 Win 7 Boot Choices

I've installed win 7 on my d drive, with win xp still on c, with the idea of having a dual boot system. Due to installation problems, i now show the xp boot choice, and 3 win 7 boot choices, with only the most recent valid. How do i purge the b. Boot.ini doesn't appear to be relevant. Win 7 utility boot rewriter program to re-point boot to ntldr will wipe out all pointers to win 7 for booting, but comes back with an extra win 7 pointer, the next time i load win 7.

New Sata Boot Drive Wont Boot

I have a new 2t sata drive (seagate). It took about 5 days of research to finally get my computer to see it. I used seagate's disk wizard to clone my older drive (ide). The sata drive was supposed to become the c: drive. Disk management does label it as the c drive but in "computer" it sees it as f:i disconnected my older drive and when i booted up the bios kept looking for the ide drive. Although the motherboard has sata built in, there seems to be no way to tell the bios that i want the sata drive to be the primary boot drive.

Also with the original drive disconnected i get a "ntldr not found. Press control-alt-delete to restart. "I believe mybios is the problem. I have flashed it with the newest bios i could find, (dates from 2005) but no sata adjustments in the bios. How can i make the bios know that i want the sata drive to be the primary boot drive?

Or is there a way to trick the bios into thinking that it is an ide drive? As it is, the computer is recognizing the sata drive as a scsi drive. I read somewhere that this is not a problem. In summary, i want my system to boot from the sata drive. I would like to reformat the original drive.

Boot Problem - No Boot Device Found

Each time i start up the system the boot file cannot be found. I select the "repair start up" option and it completes it successfully with following detail: root cause found: the partition table does not have a valid system partition. Repair action: partition table repair.completion successfully. After this the system will start up. As mentioned, i have to do this at every start up, so i'm wondering why this partition table disappears when i shut down the desktop. I should mention that this problem started at the time i downloaded and installed the true image backup software.

The installation could not complete and one possible solution to the problem was to stop the antivirus program. At that moment i noticed that the avast antivirus was hanging and i was not able to kill the process. So i restarted the system, using f8 to get the safe start option so that i was able to uninstall the antivirus program. I then tried to install another antivirus application and when installation was almost finished got the message that it was unable to complete installation. I tried to install another backup solution (paragon), but also this one failed. On the other hand, i was able to install the firefox browser.

Dual Boot - Can't See Win 7 Drive After Removing Other Boot Drive

My mobo (msi p7n diamond 780i sli / 570i sli) has a sata raid controller providing 6 sata interfaces
These are organized thus.

Sata 1 - [partition 1 - windows xp] [partition 2 - windows 7 beta (64bit)]
Sata 2 - ocz vertex - windows 7 home (64bit) retail version
Sata 3 - mirror a
Sata 4 - mirror b
Sata 5 - mirror a
Sata 6 - mirror b

The system was originally running xp on sata 1. I added a partition to sata 1 and installed windows 7 beta some weeks ago. The system dual booted to xp or win 7 beta fine. I then added the ocz vertex drive and installed the win 7 retail version, and i am able to dual boot to all three systems just fine.

However - i really want to do away with the xp and win 7 beta partitions and just run with the ocz drive. However if i disconnect the drive from sata 1 the system will not boot up. Can't find ntldr or bootmgr or something similar. I have changed the boot sequence in the bios to point at just the ocz drive - but it just won't boot from it.

Win 7 64-bit Doesn't Distinguish Between Ie8 64-bit And Ie8 32-bit

Windows 7 64bit doesn't distinguish between ie8 64 bit and ie8 32 bit when attempting to set a default browser using the control panel default programs 'associate' utility. My new windows 7 64 bit pc (luv that i7 920 intel cpu) came installed with both ie8-64 bit and ie8-32 bit (nothing more need be said regarding the absurdity of having to deal with this in the first place - i should have gone with the imac).

Anyway, ie64 bit lacks the flash player cuz adobe hasn't released a 64 bit version yet, per their website. So i can't use ie64 with xm online music stream (et al). Ie32, on the other hand, supports flash player, but won't successfully link to various embedded hypertext links, such as those embedded in an email. My initial solution was to use firefox, which served me well until an application from a local vendor will only work with internet explorer. Sigh.

I've used windows since version 2 back in the 1980s, have become stoic, and can emotionally cope with having to use 3 browsers to get the job done.

However, just for fun, my current burning question is, with two different versions of ie8 (64 bit and 32 bit) installed into windows 7, why doesn't the control panel default applications utility seem to aware of the fact that there are indeed two different versions installed? It lists firefox and internet explorer, but does not differentiate between the two flavors of ie. My goal was to set ie8 64 bit as the default browser temporarily to accommodate the vendor's application.

Fyi, by setting the default, i refer to: control panel | default programs | associate a file type or protocol with a program. Then scroll down to 'http' and click on the change program button. So in my case, firefox and only one instance of internet explorer, with no bit distinction, display as selection options.

Xp Mode Is 64-bit Or 32-bit In Win 7 64-bit

I am planning on purchasing win 7 pro & installing the 64-bit version. I intend to make use of the "xp mode" feature if i can install 32-bit printer drivers within the xp mode, as my photo printers have no 64-bit drivers. I currently edit my photography on a win xp pro 64-bit pc, which is networked to a win xp pro 32-bitpc in order to print images. I need to know if "xp mode" is 32-bit - even when installed with the 64-bit version of win 7 pro. I want to be able to convert/edit my photos in win 7 64-bit, then print these images using "xp mode" via the 32-bit driversi intend to installin xp mode- all from the same pc. Is this do-able?

Ati Radeon Sapphire 5770 - Win 7 64-bit Asks For 32-bit Drivers

I have windows 7 64 bit. I recently changed my video card for an ati radeon sapphire 5770. I had an nvidia before that stopped working. I installed the lastest drivers from ati for win7 64 bit (version 10. 5) after uninstalling those from nvidia. Everything seems to be working fine, but windows keep telling me that there's no drivers installed for my card, even tho i can access the catalyst control center. When i click on the link that windows provide, it always lead to the 32 bit version of win 7. Is it a known problem? Is there something i can do to correct that?

Printer Sharing - 64-bit Win 7 And 32-bit Xp In Remote Desktop Session

Printer sharing - 64 bit windows 7 and 32 bit windows xp in a remote desktop session. Windows 7 machine with a local ricoh / aficio 1045 b & w multifunction printer attached. Works fine, uses 64 bit printer driver. This computer connects to a windows xp machine (32 bit) using remote desktop session (terminal services).

On the xp machine, i installed the 64 bit printer driver via printers and faxes -> server properties - drivers - add driver. I can see the driver there, successfully installed (have rebooted, etc). Despite this, the printer will still not show up when rd session is run. In event viewer, i can see there's an issue with it finding the correct driver.

I've used the terminal server printer redirection tool in the past to solve these problems (tspdrw.exe) which works great. The correct 64 bit driver is not listed as a choice when scrolling through options to reassign the driver. Hopefully that is clear, not sure what i am missing.
