Programs Assigned To Secondary Drive Rather Than C:

I need to make the default drive for new program installation different from the "c" drive; unfortunately, not all setup wizards give you a choice, . Some just automatically stick everything into the c drive. My c drive is a small solid-state drive intended for running windows and not much else. Therefore i need to install all new software to my secondary 2tb drive.

Raid Hdd Was Not Assigned Drive Letters After Install

Boot manager installs on wrong hdd and raid hdd's was not assigned drive letters after install. This is first time i installed windows 7 and after updating motherboard bios and mixing the hdd boot order i find out in the end that the files windows require has been installed on my mirror raid instead of the system disk stripe raid. This annoys me a bit, do i have to plug out all my hdd's except the ones i want to install windows 7 on to ensure the booting is independent of other hdd's?

(Another annoyance was that the mirror raid did not show up under my computer, which after installing every driver known to man i found that a drive letter had not been assigned. )

Secondary Drive Or Any Usb Drive Is Not Accessible

After installing windows seven on my primary drive (followed the installation procedures for 7 on 32 bit xp pro) all works fine except my secondary drive or any usb drive is not accessible.get error message they are not available. They are in the setup bios and in devices, but in my computer if i left click i get the error message.

However my secondary disk is a sata 500 gig drive. Windows 7 will recognize dvd/cd drive but only the "c' drive (of hard drives)> i have tried usb drives in addition to the sata but it does not read them, only tells me they are not accessible. The one exception was the windows easy transfer data sent to a usb disk made prior to loading windows 7.

Win 7 Does Not See Secondary Drive

I am trying to install win 7 rc onto a used 500gb hd but when it comes to where to install it it cannot see the 500 gb hd. I also tried to install win vista but i came up with the same thing it too does not see the 500 gb hd. I tried to just boot up the 7 rc to just the 500 gb hd but it is not being seen. The 500 gb hd is being seen in win vista my computer, my bios, disk management, but not with the install disks, just my primary hd. I am running an msi mobo dka790gx home built cpu, amd phenom quadcore athena 9650.

My bios are set for the raid config to ide. I cannot think of any setting in the bios that i could change, might it just be the hd being a bad drive? However i can read and write to this drive, just not install an os to it.

Making Secondary Drive Primary In Win7

I purchased a cheap e-machines, because it was a 32-bit system. Unfortunately, the hd it came with was a tiny 320gb. I have a secondary drive that is 1. 5gb and apparently much faster than the cheap one used by the factory. I'd like to know several things, from someone who knows/tried (successfully) exactly how this works, particularly with 7. What i don't know, is how 7 acts, in comparison to previous versions. I have a couple legit copies of vista, and xp.

If during this procedure, something goes awry, and say i lose the original version of vista that's etched somewhere on my system, can i still install the win 7 upgrade kit disc, using a previous version of vista (even if it's oem)? And what's the easiest and most likely to result in successful transfer?

Secondary Hard Drive Not Appearing As Option To "setup Backup"

Secondary hard drive not appearing as an option to "set up backup". I recently got a computer with windows 7 home. I have 500 gb western digital wd800jd-75hka1 ata hard drive that i installed in my new computer out of my previous one. I did all the necessary things to install it as a fully functioning secondary hdd. From the my computer window, it shows up, i can access it's files, it works perfect, even listing it as a hard drive.

However, when i go to set up a backup, which is the primary reason i wanted it in this computer, it doesn't show up as an option to backup. The only available back up destinations listed are the self created "recovery e:"and my dvd-rw drive. I want my wd d:!

4105 Mb Of 8gb Ram Assigned To Hardware Reserved

4105 mb of 8gb ram assigned to "hardware reserved" with 64-bit windows 7, why? And how do i fix it?I managed to run out of memory today with only firefox and ms publisher running. Given that i invested in 8gb of ram and a 64-bit operating system, this was completely unexpected. I've verified that the system type is 64-bit operating sytem and can see installed memory (ram) 8. 00 gb (3. 99 gb usable).

Given how much on-board memory is on both my cpu and gpu, it seems like very little memory should be "hardware reserved". What might be causing this issue and how can i investigate it? Searches on the internet all just talked about how 32-bit windows couldn't read the other memory, but i don't have 32-bit windows.

Secondary Display Just Flashes

Whenever i try to enable a secondary display on my laptop it detects the monitor but then all it does is flash the desktop and then the screen goes black, like it's stuck in this auto-detect loop or something. I have tried multiple monitors and get the same thing. What's even funnier is that it worked the very first time i tried and since then has not worked once. I have updated to the latest drivers available on nvidia's website and windows 7 is up to date as well. I have tried using the external monitor as the primary screen, tried duplicating the desktop and just extending. I'm doing all this using the win+p key method.

My setup is a dell vostro 1720 laptop with an nvidia 9600m gs graphics chip and am running windows 7 x64.

Secondary Display Not Detected

I have two monitors on an nvidia 8600gts running windows 7. 1 is a generic dell 19" lcd that came with my room mate's computer, and the other is a 22" lg flatron. For a long time i had both running fine, primarily using the lg, and putting up documents on the dell. I disabled the dell to get a game to run, since it would not run with both monitors enabled, which was my first issue. Then, about 2 weeks later i shuffled my machine over a bit. One of the monitor plugs came loose, and now windows will not detect my lg screen.

This had happened before, and then came back about a week later, however both screens were enabled at that time. Now i cannot get the lg to be even found on my computer. I've tried the windows display settings, the nvidia control panel, even the hardware manager. I cannot detect the monitor anywhere. So, how can i get it back? I've got up-to-date drivers for the card, i've tried rebooting, unplugging and replugging, changing inputs, scanning for hardware changes, and everything else i could possibly think of. Please someone help me get both my monitors running.

Media Center Keeps Opening In Secondary Monitor

I am using windows 7 professional 32 bit. Windows media center keeps opening in my secondary monitor and capturing the mouse. I want it to open in the primary monitor. How can i do this? It's very frustrating. I have set my primary monitor as the "preferred" monitor in wmc preferences, that's the only preference i can see. Video card is 7300 gt and latest driver.

Put Programs On A New Hard Drive

I have been using a 40gb hard drive with windows 7 and other low file size data. I recently salvaged an old hard drive and wiped it clean and installed it. Its size is 200gb. I have started gaming on my pc and i didn't have much room to start with but now my 40gb hard drive is full. I want to put my programs on my new 200gb drive but someone told me it wasn't that simple. I am aware with how a computer works but i guess i didn't pay enough attention when my teacher was talking about master and slave drives.

Is there a way for me to move all the files and os onto the new hard drive or do i have to purchase a new os and install it on the new hard drive. Or is there a way for me to put the program data on the new hard drive and still make my computer happy. Again i am hoping i can put some games onto my computer and i don't think uninstalling programs will help me free up 30 gb of space.

Problem Installing Programs On Another Drive

I have a 80g ssd as c to make things a bit faster, but i can't squeeze all programs in there ofc. However i have a problem when trying to redirect installation programs to my "e:" drive. I've read a few articles and first tried as someone suggested to change the registry (programfilesdir), didn't work. Next suggestion was to look into access rights (as it complains about that) and there was an article about changing ownership to trusted installer.

I couldn't do that at first try though, not allowed. I've created a similar directory on e:program files (x86) and i'm unsure if i have to manipulate the access rights in some way to have installation programs install there. I don't want to mess up the system beyond control.

Recover Programs From External Hard Drive

During a recent move, my primary hard drive (which ran on xp) was totaled. My files were backed up on an external hard drive. The backup was created as part of my weekly back-up with my norton 360 system. The primary concern of mine was my family genealogy which was and "older" type of program. But, since the files were backed up, i felt confident it would be easy to restore.

I replaced my system with a windows 7 system and contacted the company that makes the genealogy program. I purchased the 2010 version of the program and based on their advice, downloaded a "bridge" version, the 2005 version, to read the files when extracted from the backup.

The problem i'm having is that the 2005 version cannot read the backup files because they were compressed by the norton security program. (I was previously unaware that that was how they would be saved. ) Does anyone have any suggestions on how to "un"compress these files so they can be read and saved into my new system?

Programs Not Functioning Properly After Drive Letter Change

I am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. When i first partitioned my hdd, the 2nd logical drive was labeled j:, which was the next available letter after all the optical drives and built-in flash memory readers. I prefer to label it d: (to immediately follow from the boot partition which is c:). I used the disk management feature to change the drive letter from j: to d: (and of course moving the rest of the optical drives and built-in flash memory ready by 1 letter).

When i run some programs, i get this error message: "there is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive deviceharddisk4dr4. " The options to click below that message are "cancel", "try again" or "continue". For some programs, like google chrome, microsoft works word processor and spreadsheet, clicking on any of the 3 options will allow the program to run normally.

For other programs, like windows live movie maker, clicking on any of the options will result in a "drive not ready" message and lead to more problems. For example, i cannot load any of my existing projects because i cannot get to the screen that allows me to navigate drives and folders to choose my file.

I uninstalled and reinstalled movie maker, but the problem is still there. Seems to me that it is not the individual programs that are causing the problem but something in windows 7 itself. How do i get rid of the error messages and get the programs to function normally? Do i have to edit the windows 7 registry? If so, what exactly needs to be changed?

Office 2007 Programs Do Not Appear In Default Programs List

I have both openoffice.org and microsoft office 2007 installed on my windows 7 computer and i would like to use microsoft office as the default for all files it can open but it does not appear in the default programs list.

In fact, except for microsoft office outlook, none of my microsoft office 2007 applications appear in the default programs list!

Openoffice.org does appear, and when i click on it in the list and click choose defaults for this program many of the defaults are already set to the equivalent microsoft office application. But there are some associations (such as text files) that are not correctly associated, and possibly others that i don't know about. I'd like to click on microsoft word and then click set this program as default so that it will automatically open all the files it can.

Win 7 Fails To Assign A Drive Letter To A Usb Drive

When i plug it into my windows 7 64 bit system, "nothing" happens. Upon further investigation, the disk manager sees the drives (there are 2), but no letter is assigned. I tried assigning, but i keep getting a message that asks me to refresh, restart or reboot, none of which works. I have tries to uninstall and install the devices - same result. I tried to assign the drive letters in command mode, but i get a "no volume" error. Ny suggestions?

Can't Eject Usb Hard Drive, Drive Always In Use

I have a 500gb maxtor onetouch 4 external usb backup drive that is set to do weekly backups with windows backup. This works great except that everything and their grandmother wants to spin the hard drive up whenever possible. This is not an ideal situation: with exception to backup, this drive is not used for anything. So i had a great idea, i'll keep the drive unmounted until i need to backup which then a newly created scheduled task would mount, backup and unmount when done! Well, turns out, windows doesn't think so. And this makes me a sad panda.
