Bios Smart Error During Boot

First i want to be clear that there is nothing wrong with my drive physically and i am having no obvious software problems. The drive that is being effected is a new samsung f3 hdd. This problem doesn't occur under any circumstance not listed. In particular, this does not happen if i reboot from linux. This is also only referring to after i first noticed. Whether this has always (in the last month) been an issue or one that appeared within the last 2 weeks is unknown to me. Every time that i shut down windows 7, upon rebooting, immediately after post, but before grub loads (a boot loader) a list of hdd using ahci at the time is generated.

In addition to my new hard drive, i have an old seagate hdd and a newer samsung drive. Neither of these have ever given me problems aside from the excessive noise from the, presumably dying, sg drive. The error, which i cannot provide a screen shot of (for hopefully obvious reasons), is "s. M. R. T. Error" next too the serial number of the drive. Additionally my computer soft reboots shortly afterwards (a second or two), before grub loads. After going through post a second time, everything functions as if i had restarted from linux (meaning properly).

This happens consistently and without any other observable effects. I'm not sure what the proper term is for the list of smart information collected by a hard drive, so i will just call it the "smart log". The smart log shows absolutely no abnormalities. I have run benchmarks and self-tests, both read and write, and forced a check for bad blocks. There are no indications of a problem. When i reboot from linux, specifically ubuntu 9. 10 x64, i do not have this problem nor any other.

I also don't have any problems booting either operating system. While there are no obvious negative (nor positive) effects, it is extremely unnerving. Given that i spent money for this supposedly glorious operating system (windows, i didn't spend a dime on linux) i expect it to work at least as well as something that is free. After skipping over vista, i'm looking to switch back to windows, mostly because i'm getting tired of only being able to play old games that work in wine (compatibility layer for *nix systems which).

Having to listen to a error involving my hdd is very disturbing. I don't want to just hear "ignore it" or "it means nothing", i want an answer. What is causing this problem?[Edit]additionally, if you cannot answer this question, it would be helpful to know where else i can go.google wasn't of any help, and i'm unfamiliar with windows help forums.

[Edit2] it probably would be helpful for the reader to know that i installed this installation of windows 7 back in, i believe, in november without any noteworthy problems. I've used it off an on, but not that i have extra space to install things on (or so i think) i will be using it more.

Bios Cannot See Any Devices To Boot

I performed a full hard disk encryption on my laptop using truecrypt. Now i cannot boot. Before i started i took the precaution to take a full image backup using norton ghost. I used the latest stable version - 6. 3a of truecrypt. I created a truecrypt rescue disk.

My hp laptop was running windows 7 ultimate (32-bit). The laptop contains 2 x 640 gigabyte hard disks from western digital - wd6400bevt blue scope 5400rpm - part number 591192-001 - model number wd6400bevt-60aort0. The system disk had 4 partitions before i started.

When i ran truecrypt i opted for: "encrpt the system partition or the entire system drive"; "standard truecrypt volume" i.e. No cascades; serpent encryption algorithm; the ripemd-160 hash algorithm; and 7 passes. The truecrypt program checked my parameter choices and did a test reboot without any error messages. The encryption process continued for 32 hours.

After the encryption finished with a "successful" message i was a little surprised that the program didn't suggest an immediate reboot. So i looked around on the disk. My file systems appeared normal. I was able to get into microsoft outlook and download new mail. I was able to browse my favorite sites on the internet. I was also able to look inside word documents.

So i decided to reboot. Since then i have not been able to get my system to run at all. I have had no luck using the truecrypt rescue disk; or a system recovery cd; or even the original windows 7 installation disk.

I get a black screen with a 4-5cm diameter blue disk displayed in the middle with the white letters, "hp". Down in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen it says "press the esc key for startup menu". Pressing esc does nothing, unless you press it 8-10 times, when it causes a "beep" noise to sound.

The problem is that the insyde h20 bios supplied by hp is unable to communicate with either of the hard disks or the cd drive; or a usb thumb drive. The bios program does talk to the keyboard.

I have tried a strategy to reset the bios back to default. I removed the battery and power cord from my laptop. Then held down the power-up button for 15 seconds to ensure any residual power had drained. Then i plugged the power supply back in, and hit the power up key. I still get the black screen with the hp logo and the press esc message.

I tried powering up and pressing a range of function keys.
F1 gives me a , "f1.system information" message.
F2 gives me a , "f2. Startup check" message.
F9 gives me a , "f9. Change boot device order" message.
F10 gives me a , "f10. Bios setup options" message.
F11 gives me a , "f11.system recovery" message.
Esc gives me a , "esc. Pause startup" message.
. But none of these options actually work.

To me this indicates that the bios programme is working partially and able to intepret keystrokes from my keyboard. But nothing else happens other than the whirr of my fan, the led lights displaying normally around my keyboard and the sound of my dvd/cd drive spinning up, and then slowing down again. It appears that in order to bootstrap my hard disk or even bootstrap from a bootable cd the bios needs to talk to one of the (now encrypted) partitions on my system hard drive.

I have tried re-seating the hard drive cables and contacts, and even swapping the hard drives over. I've probably voided my warranty by unscrewing the covers off the underside of my laptop to access these hard drives. I don't have access to another laptop or desktop capable of mounting my western digital hard drives. So i haven't been able to try the option of decrypting my system hard drive by that method.

After Bios Flash, System Will Not Boot

New build, was working fine except it did not recognize all 12 gb memory. I decided to update the bios. Followed directions and afterwards, i can get to the bios and everything seems to be ok. After post, i just get a black screen with a flashing cursor in the upper left hand of the screen. I have re-flashed the bios and have taken the cmos battery out for a few minutes. I also move jumper as described in manual. Any ideas?  Did i mess up the mb?

Bios Boot Menu Goes To Starting Windows

I build a pc recently and bought windows 7 off of ebay. It was not opened and still had the plastic wrap around it. It came with a 64 bit and 32 bit home edition. When i installed win7 64 bit os on my pc, for some reason it installed as 32 bit. (I made absolutely sure that the cd read 64 bit and i reformatted 3 times to triple check {2 customs and 1 upgrade}). I talked to microsoft and they are trying to help me determine what the problem is.

My system is 64 bit compatible with:intel core i7-930 2. 8ghz lga 1366 130w quad-core desktop processor corsair dominator 6gb (3 x 2gb) 240-pin ddr3 sdram ddr3 1600 (pc3 12800) desktop memory xfx radeon hd 5770 (juniper xt) hd-577a-znfc video card gigabyte ga-x58a-ud3r atx intel motherboard me and the tech rep also ran windows 7 upgrade tool advisor to double check the my system was 64bit compatible, and the test showed that my system passed. So our next idea was to try the 32 bit disc to check if maybe the labels on the two discs were mixed up. When trying to boot the 32 bit disc, i hit f12 which takes me to the boot menu.

I select cdrom and when it asks for me to press a key to boot i do so. Once i pass this part it proceeds to "starting windows" and takes me to my login screen. I have tried using this disc on my laptop to see if maybe the disc was the problem but my laptop was able to start the setup. When trying to run the disc from my computer i receive the error:"the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

Bios Boot Configuration Changes After Installing Win 7

I installed windows 7 ultimate 64-bit and every since then. My bios boot configuration changes. I have a1tb hd and an external western digital book. The change will often change swap the wd book to the 1st configuration. This does not work because it does not have the operating system on it. Once it changed the 1st boot to be the cd-rom drive.

The first time, i called dell and they told me that windows 7 changes it and to press the f2-setup key and go into the bios and there is a f9 key to restore to defaults. I did that and f10 to save it. It worked great for a couple of days and then something changes it back after the computer is shut off overnight and i reboot the next day.

One thing i did notice is that when i go into the system configuration under tools in windows 7 . Under the "general" tab. The use "original boot configuration is checked. I don't know how that got checked off but it will not let me uncheck it. The other setting under this tab are "load selected items" and load system services. Those are checked. The load startup items shows blue but not checked. I don't know what that means.

I am trying to figure this out. All the post tests on the system pass. And it is a new system (less than 1 year old). It is a dell xps 435t. Dell did recommend that i update the bios with their file. And actually did that before upgrading to windows 7. I have the newest updates on the system in total.

Blank Blue Screen - No Bios Error

I recently built myself a new computer. It's components are:-2 nvidia gtx470 connected via sli-core i7 930-3 3gb ddr3 ram sticks-asus p6x58d-e x58 r motherboard-antec|tp-750 750w rt power supply now, it's been running fine for the past 2 weeks. Perfectly, in fact. However my dad dragged me away on vacation to the dominican republic so i left the computer with my mom and grandma since they use it. Now, last night my mom told me that she got a problem. When she turned it on and tried to access her session she got a blank blue screen. No error messages, nothing.

I told her to hard restart it, and when she did it gave her the "windows shut down unexpectedly, start in safe mode or boot windows normally?" Message. When she told it to boot up normally, it was fine. I told her to restart it again to see if the bios would report any errors like it normally does when there's hardware failure but nothing came up. The more i think about it though, the less likely it seems like it'd be a hardware issue though, since this problem would've arisen much sooner since before i left i was playing alot of games, wouldn't it?

This morning when my grandmother turned on the computer again she got the same problem. I told her to hard reset it again, and once more it booted up normally after that. I had her run r-kill (which reported no malicious processes) and run malware bytes and microsoft security essentials. After that i'm going to have her insert the windows 7 disc to run a repair. What exactly is the problem though? Is there anything else that i should be doing?

Error - Stop: Bios Not Fully Acpi Compliant

Good morning all, i've recently been encountering the above bsod error at random when booting my pc. Rebooting seems to resolve the issue temporarily but it is still a concern. I'm using a gigabyte m57 sli-s4 motherboard with the fhh version of the bios (updated from fe after this error was encountered the first time). The windows 7 site indicates that the motherboard is fully compatible. The bios also has all the applicable settings for acpi and is set on s3. The system is patched up-to-date via windows update. If anyone has any thoughts on how to fix this i'd be grateful.

Hard Drive Smart Event / Failure

I recently upgraded from vista home premium (shipped with dell computer in 2007) to windows 7 ultimate. Whole upgrade process went fine, except that when i restarted, i continue to receive an error from the intel matrix storage console that my hard drive is reporting a smart event and may soon fail. I am also receiving a windows dialog box "hard disk error". I ran a check disk on it said windows removed multiple (over 10) bad clusters.

Then i ran an sfc scannow command and got no integrity violations. My concern is that i really don't think this is a bad drive. Everything was just fine before the windows 7 upgrade. I went under device mgr and checked to make sure that the intel matrix storage console had a current driver, it is listed as version 8. 6. 2. 1012. I clicked "update driver" and it said it was current. I have a samsung sp2504c hard-drive. At this point i don't know how to proceed.

Chronic Raid 0 Error Messages In Bios / Matrix Storage Console

Chronic raid 0 error messages in bios and in intel matrix storage console. I have had several dell xps computers with raid 0 where within a few weeks or a few months during bootup i get an "error occurred (0)" message regarding one of the two disks under the "physical disks" heading on the screen where it reports on the raid drive. Fter the computer has booted intel matrix storage console gives the message for one of the drives "hard drive reports read or write to it failed"  (says backup may still be possible and to back up immediately because the drive is about to fail).

Dell tech support always says that the problem is either the disk controller on the motherboard (studio xps) or a hard disk problem. Several times they have replaced the motherboard and disk drives or the whole computer. But then within six months the same error message occurs. This time i got a blue screen before the message occurred , but  the computer rebooted ok except it gave the same error message as noted above on bootup and the same message in intel matrix storage console.

I have never had any of the computers fail to boot after giving the error messages, or have any symptom except the error message. It seems obvious that there couldn't have been a problem with that many hard disks, and dell does not acknowledge knowing about any design defect in the raid controller. (The exact same messages occurred with 100 percent different computers).

I wonder if there is not a software problem causing the error message and that there is really no hardware problem. I wonder what i should do when the warranty is up. Throw the computer away?  Live with the error message on the assumption that it doesn't mean anything? If it is some kind of software problem could that still cause the computer not to work?

Ps2 Smart Office Ez 8000 Keyboard Not Responsive

Ps2 smart office ez 8000 keyboard not responsive when the pc wakes up in windows 7. I built a new pc using intel dp55wb mother-board with windows 7 home premium oem version. I am using a logitech usb mouse and an old ps2 smart office ez 8000 keyboard with an ps2 to usb adaptor. The problem i am having is that the keyboard is not responsive when the pc wakes up from sleep mode. But the mouse is fully functional and to get the pc to work again i have to restart it using the mouse.

The funny thing is that the problem is inconsistent, i.e. The keyboard will be functional for a few number of wakes before it goes non responsive or may freeze at the first wake after the pc is started for the day. What could be the cause and the fix?

Boot Up Error 0x80070002

My girlfriends pc running xp will not open windows anymore. I tried to upgrade from service pack 2 to serv pack 3, it showed as installed fine but after restart it would not open windows anymore. It keeps coming up with an error message stating there's a problem and has error code 0x80070002 in the message, unfortunately i can't get exact wording of message as her pc is in chinese and she can't fully translate it for me, but basically saying there's a problem with windows xp serv pack 3.

I managed to get on windows in safe mode, but was not able to system restore, also tried system restore insafe mode with a command prompt option. But that still told me i cannot restore, need to be in windows normal mode to do so, again not sure on exact wording. I'm not to sure if her pc made any restore points. Anything else i can try before having to do recovery?

Dual Boot Boot Problem After Resizing Win 7

Boot problem on dual boot after resizing windows 7 (32bit) switched from drive w: to drive g: i have a dual boot system that boots into win 7 (64) (c:drive) or win 7 (32) (w:drive). I needed to increase the size of win7 (64) drive and in order to do so i needed to move the win 7 (32) partition. Now i can still boot into win 7 (64) with no problem but when i boot into win 7 (32) it windows states that it is not a genuine copy and it is actually on drive "g:"! Anyway to change it back to "w:" because i believe this is the problem.

Dual Boot - Move Boot Image To Second Drive

I have a problem with two different drives both running win7, one 32 the other drive64, on a dual boot system. I want to pull the win32 drive, but it also has my boot information for the win64 drive. When removed it will not boot. I have been working on this for 5-6 weeks. I want to remove the win7/32 and put the boot image of win7/64 on the second drive.

I booted from the win764 install dvd, and went to there pair your computer. The placethat displays the operating systems installed, none will show. I have tried bootsect from the command prompt. It seems to work, but tells me no partition on the second drive. Or on another attribute used, it can not find the path to the drive. I have tried rebuild bcd, fixmbr, etc.

Boot Takes Minutes, Will Boot In Safe Mode

When i booted up this arvo, the computer took 15 minutes to get to the log in screen. Upon clicking the profile image, i had to wait another 5 minutes of unresponsiveness for even the desktop background to display. Rebooted 3-4 times, still happened, booted in safe mode, (which is how i'm writing this) and initially thought it was msmpeng.exe that was causing me issues, so i removed mse once i finally managed to get it going in normal mode. I thought the problem was fixed when i rebooted, and i had about 4-5 minutes of normal speeds before it slowed right down and became unresponsive.

When the computer is running, the actual computer itself sounds fine (hard disk is chattering away) but when going slow and unresponsive it only makes noises every 1-2 seconds, if that makes any sense, as if it's under a really heavy load. Hard to tell because i cant open anything. Ran a system restore, didn't do anything. I need help soon! I suspect a driver issue, but i'm just speculating. Specs: windows 7 home premium 64 bit 6gig ddr3 ram i7-860 cpu ati 5770 gpu

Win 7 utility boot rewriter program to re-point boot to ntldr will wipe out all pointers to win 7 for booting, but comes back with an extra win 7 pointer, the next time i load win 7.

New Sata Boot Drive Wont Boot

I have a new 2t sata drive (seagate). It took about 5 days of research to finally get my computer to see it. I used seagate's disk wizard to clone my older drive (ide). The sata drive was supposed to become the c: drive. Disk management does label it as the c drive but in "computer" it sees it as f:i disconnected my older drive and when i booted up the bios kept looking for the ide drive. Although the motherboard has sata built in, there seems to be no way to tell the bios that i want the sata drive to be the primary boot drive.

Also with the original drive disconnected i get a "ntldr not found. Press control-alt-delete to restart. "I believe mybios is the problem. I have flashed it with the newest bios i could find, (dates from 2005) but no sata adjustments in the bios. How can i make the bios know that i want the sata drive to be the primary boot drive?

Or is there a way to trick the bios into thinking that it is an ide drive? As it is, the computer is recognizing the sata drive as a scsi drive. I read somewhere that this is not a problem. In summary, i want my system to boot from the sata drive. I would like to reformat the original drive.

Boot Problem - No Boot Device Found

Each time i start up the system the boot file cannot be found. I select the "repair start up" option and it completes it successfully with following detail: root cause found: the partition table does not have a valid system partition. Repair action: partition table repair.completion successfully. After this the system will start up. As mentioned, i have to do this at every start up, so i'm wondering why this partition table disappears when i shut down the desktop. I should mention that this problem started at the time i downloaded and installed the true image backup software.

The installation could not complete and one possible solution to the problem was to stop the antivirus program. At that moment i noticed that the avast antivirus was hanging and i was not able to kill the process. So i restarted the system, using f8 to get the safe start option so that i was able to uninstall the antivirus program. I then tried to install another antivirus application and when installation was almost finished got the message that it was unable to complete installation. I tried to install another backup solution (paragon), but also this one failed. On the other hand, i was able to install the firefox browser.

Install While In Bios Or In Xp

I don't know if i should install windows 7 before i load windows xp, while i'm in the bios (boot from cd drive) or should i run it while in xp, when i put in the disk it says install now, check compatibility online. On the directions that come with the disk, it says do it through bios, but then online it says to load windows xp and install it that way (where it actually pulls up the screen mentioned above). So my question is a- what is the difference, and b- which one do you use, and c- under what circumstances do you use it?

Bios Memory Issue

I'm having memory issues; win 7 is crashing about every 36 hours. Running win 7's memory checker (f8 at startup) says i need to contact manufacturer (memory errors reported). After contacting manufacturer, he said i need to make sure (first and foremost) that my motherboard bios is up to date. Then i need to make sure other bios settings are correct as well.

In previous version of windows, going into the bios was accomplished by pressing f2 at startup; now, however, i have only 2 options when executing this procedure: (1) staring win 7 normally or (2) performing the memory test.

How do you get into the bios? Choosing win 7's help feature, it says either f2 or f12. But neither of these takes me to the bios any longer. My motherboard is nvidia, by the way. Oh, and by the way, once i get into the bios, how do i update?

Changing Bios Settings

I have a custom built computer that has been running the windows 7 release candidate. I've been trying to install the full version but have not successfully been able to boot from the cd/dvd drive. There are two options to prompt the screen before windows starts either press delete for bios settings or f12 for boot menu. First off, i'm not sure which one i'm supposed to so i tried both. When i went to the boot menu the screen was frozen and i could not select the boot first device. What am i doing wrong?

No Bios Screen On Startup

No bios seen on startup - wrong resolution when finished startup but have to put the laptop to sleep and re-wake to finish startup. Acer 5920g; black screen on start-up or re-start

System:
- 5920g
- 8600m nvidia
- 2gb
- Vista home premium upgraded to windows 7 home

Symptoms:
- On start up no bios details and screen stays black but i hear the windows start up sound
- When plugging in the external monitor unable to see laptop screen as a selectable option (so fn+f5/fn+f6 do not work)
- Started about 5 weeks ago.

Actions:
- Put computer to sleep fn+f4
- Wake up and get resolution of 1200 by 768
- Re-set resolution to 1280 by 800
- If put to sleep and re-woken no impact continues to work fine
- Tried with an external monitor and works fine – can see the bios start-up routine

What has been done:
- Re-installed drivers sourced from acer and nvidia
- Refreshed the bios (source acer)
- Re-set the bios defaults
- Got confused with some many hardware suggested issues but convinced it is not a back-light or inverter problem

Will a reload back to vista or a clean install of windows 7 solve the bios post screen and resolution issues?

Can Update Patches Affect Bios?

Can the windows update patches effect the bios? I had a discussion about testing patches against different platforms yesterday. My stance was that software updates/patches have nothing to do with hardware on any given machine. The response i got was well each platform has a different bios and software updates can be affected by the bios. I have never experienced any kind of relationship between a os, application software , etc. And the bios. M i correct in saying that software updates have nothing to do with the bios of the machine unless that update is specifically a bios software update?
