Downloading Issues / Save Or Open The File Message

Okay, i first noticed this issue when i was playing team fortress. Whenever you enter a server you'll be presented with a server message, which is a html page with-in the program (from my understanding). But when my computer is about to load the server message it minimizes and i get a message saying if i want to save or open the file, if i click open it will open in my browser and the in game window will be blank. Its happened to a few other programs as well, for instance when installing a program the eula will come up as a html doc within the installed and i have to scroll to accept, however it again asks me to open or save, if i open it will open in a browser.

The last place i noticed it was in outlook, whenever i get new mail, instead of doing the normal thing outlook does with mail it asks me if i want to save the file it's receiving. At first i thought my temp folder was full, cleaned it and i still get the issue. Its really limiting what i can do on my computer, could anyone help?

Edit Html In Ie8

I build a site with google sites, i am the owner of this site, the text, data, photo's. Are all uploaded. Now i'd like to edit the html but when i choose display source i get a non editable 'notepad like' screen. I tried to open the site by clicking the menu bar and choose edit/open with notepad. This way it opens notepad which i can edit but there are no line numbers, the html code seems editable but looks like there's no beginning and no and. Pasting code in this screen looks a bit of a lucky shot. I copied a bit code so you can see what i mean;

(C, 1);break}};h. Jot_removealllistenersforname=function(b){for(var c=0;c
My question is; how can i edit my html using notepad/ ie8 (i believe editing html in ie7 was possible using notepad)my os; windows vista build 6. 0, service pack 1 ie 8

Ie8 Not Working Error Message

I started getting an error message today when i tried to launch ie8. It stated that 'internet explorer has stopped working', and gave me the opportunity of letting it try to find a solution. I did accept, but it didn't find one. The problem seems to survive a re-boot. Upon forced-closure of the program i get the following system error message:'exception eaccessviolation in module shelleh440.dll at 00008a08.

Access violation at address 00358a08 in module 'shelleh440.dll'. Write of address 00000000. 'can anyone advise me what to do to solve this please?

Error Code - 2 - System Cannot Find The File Specified

Error copying to external drive: error code 2 "system cannot find the file specified" i've been trying to perform a mirror style backup to my external drive of everything in c:users. First of all i tried using robocopy (my preferred tool) with the command line running as administrator and that failed after copying a few hundred files. It came up with error code 2, system cannot find the file specified. I used robocopy c:users h:ackup_win7 /b /m /e /dcopy:t /r:0 /xj

I then tried using the freeware tool fbackup, this also managed to copy a few hundred files before getting stuck in the same way (at a different point).

Finally, i tried picking one set of folders (pictures) and doing a manual copy/paste into the destination directory, this also failed after copying a few hundred files with an error about not finding the file.

The actual files it fails on are nothing special, just regular jpg. If i create a simple test.txt on the drive it works fine. The problem only seems to occur with large numbers of files being copied and where it actually fails seems to depend on which tool i use to copy the files.

Each time this problem occurs my system goes into meltdown with massive cpu usage and then windows won't let me dismount the drive as it insists something is still trying to do something with it.

The only way out is to restart the computer. I've tried running chkdsk /r on the external drive (a seagate freeagent 1tb drive via usb 2) and no errors were found. The drive in question worked perfectly with xp sp3 for several months and has no problems reading from files in windows 7, just this writing issue. I've also tried turning off all services with msconfig, but that just meant that the external drive wouldn't mount at all.

My system is an athlon 64 x2 5600+ running at 2. 9ghz, with 4gb of ddr2 800 on a msi k9n v3 motherboard and an nvidia 8500 gt graphics card. The source disk is a 300gb hitachi sata drive. Overall system performance (aside from this issue) seems very good. I'm using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, installed from a clean install after xp was previously on the disk.

Error Message - Ie8 - Ieframe.dll

Interactive service detection error message - ie 8 - program path: c:windowssystem32ieframe.dll. I am running the rc of windows 7 and latest release of ie8. When attempting an open of ie8. I continually get the above error message. If i close down and restart ie8 the problem may open without error - but sometimes it takes more than one attempt.

I have tried closing the processes for ie8 and outlook 2007 before starting again and sometimes this clears the problem. Have also tried running ie 8 as administrator. Can anyone throw light on this issue?

Error - Failed To Find Driver File Path

I receive the error "failed to find driver file path. Error=ffffffffx[gle=0x00000003]" when trying to update from vista to windows 7. The upgrade gets to the 'updating files and settings' phase, then ends up rolling back to vista. Before this last install that failed i've updated all of my drivers, removed my antivirus software, used the mouse that came with my system rather than my wireless mouse, and unplugged all usb devices-basically everything i've been told to try.

The last thing i was told was that i'll have to just do a clean install. I'm very disappointed since one of the reasons i decided to buy windows 7 was that i would be able to upgrade and keep all of my settings.

Error - Windows Can't Open This File

Windows can't open this file: in windows 7 with ie 8, when i click on an embedded link in an email, i get the message "windows can't open this file: and then there is a long file name is listed. "To open this file, windows needs to know what program you want to use to open it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select from a list of programs that are installed on your computer.

What do you want to do?" I then select "select a program from a list of installed programs" and use ie, and it works fine. Links within the link work. I select use this program but it doesn't matter, it always gives me this message. I did a system restore and did a ie reset, but i think this started after the most recent windows critical update.

Error - File Or Folder Open Or In Use By Another Program

I am using windows 7 64-bit on an asus laptop, and recently ran into a strange problem. I have a shared hard drive on a desktop pc that stores all of my working files. I often work from the laptop across my wireless network, working on files stored on my desktop hard drive. The desktop is running win xp professional.

When i try and move a folder on the desktop hard drive using the laptop running win 7 i am getting the error"file or folder open or in use by another program, please close the program and try again"
The files are not open on the desktop or elsewhere on the laptop either, but nothing i do seems to unlock these files so they can be managed remotely from the laptop across the wireless network.

I found one forum post that said something about having to unlock the permissions for the file in windows 7? Is this the problem? And if so, how would one go about doing that? I have checked the permissions of the folders themselves, and they are set to full read write access for everyone, so i don't know what i could possibly change. This is a very annoying glitch, having to go to my desktop every time i need to move or delete a file from my shared hard drive!

Also i have had no problems in the past w/ my previous two laptops managing files across my network on this particular desktop drive. Those were running win xp home and media center edition.

Upgrade Adviser Error Message - Extracting File Field

I am trying to get windows 7 installed on my computer. I asked this question before and was told to do a clean boot which i did but that didn't help i still get the same error message. I am able to download other files. Why won't this one work right? Is there a another type of file that i can download to do the same thing? Do i have to use the window 7 upgrade adviser to upgrade to windows 7. This is all very frustrating!

Former question:

I am running windows vista. When i click 'run' to get the windows 7 download adviser to start i get an error message:

"Extracting file field: it is most likely caused by low memory (low disk space for swapping file or corrupted cabinet file. "

This is a new toshiba laptop i purchased in july. I don't have much on the computer so i can't possibly be low on memory. What's the deal? What do i do to get the upgrade adviser to work?

Media Player Has An Error And Can't Open That File

"windows media player has an error and can't open that file"-this happens even when opening an unrelated file or program. When trying to run simple programs or open a random file, wmp will open and pop up the error that it has an error and can't open the file. Troubleshooter says no fix, and there is no error #. It blocks me from opening things. I have windows 7 home premium and using the appropriate wmp. How do i get it to stop without having to uninstall it?

Error Message - Missing Or Damaged Dll File - Msvcr71.dll

When i boot my computer, the following error message displays each and every time: "the program can't start because msvcr71.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem. Exactly what is this error message, how did i begin receiving it and what can i do to fix it.

I've seen numerous so called "fixes" but i am very leary of just downloading anything that says, "i can fix your problem" because you never know who you can trust when it comes to the internet. This is the reason i came here w/my issue. Can anyone help me with this? If so, i really appreciate you and your time obviously, this is a missing dll file problem but i am not certain as to what is the best thing to do to right the wrong.

Can't Find Win 7 Backup File

Can't find windows 7 backup file, and back and restore utility claims that backup hasn't been run, but drive has been filled. After installing windows 7, i was asked to backup the system. I was in the middle of something, so i clicked yes, assuming i could change the settings later. Now i notice that twice as much space is used on my hard drive (presumably because of the backup), but i can't find any evidence of the backup file using windows explorer, even when i view hidden files. In addition, the windows backup and restore utility claims that i haven't set up windows backup.

I'd like to remove this backup to free-up space, and then set the system to backup to my external hard drive instead. Any idea how to go about this?

(Sidenote: i have blackarmor backup installed, and it ran a backup onto my external hard drive fairly recently, but it doesn't appear to have anything to do with the problem i'm talking about. )

How Do I Open A File As A Zip File?

I work with an application that packages files into "zipped folders" (yeah, just zip files), but uses a different file extension. It works exactly like . Gadget (windows gadgets) and . Themepack (windows themes) files work: you can rename them to .zip and open them with the zip viewer.

I want to skip the step of renaming it each time. I want to just associate the files with the zip viewer. In fact i don't need to associate it, just open-with a single time: i know if i can do it once, it will always be an available option on the right-click context menu of the files.

But i can't find which program is associated with zip files. I tried searching the system-32 folder.

Unable To Re-open Live Mail After Sent Message

When i create an e-mail the message it can be sent, but the system then disconnects from the internet, and i am unable to re-open windows live from the task bar. To make windows live become active again, i am compelled to do a restart but must concurrently select f8. The taskbar then allows me to again select windows live e-mail. Have repeated this process several times but there must be a better solution to preclude the system from shutting down after each e-mail is sent.

Cannot Find 3rd File To Install Xp Compatibility Mode

With windows 7 in a brand-new pc, i went to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx after confirming that my pc will handle the software. One must enter their os (windows 7 64-bit ultimate) and language (english), after which 3 blue boxes appear. The user is told to download file#1, install it, then file#2 and then file#3. Everything works fine with #1 and #2, but the blue box for #3 on that page is not a hyperlink (as are #1 and #2). It says, "**enables windows xp mode for pcs" - and i suppose that it would, if it was a live url. It appears that someone has updated the webpage and inadvertently messed up the hyperlink. Either that, or i'm a dummy. Maybe both.
Any help appreciated.

Ie8 Will Not Open Email

I am running windows xp, sp3 and ie 8 on 3 computers with avg antivirus. I have had zero problems until the other day. On one computer i.e 8 is not opening my yahoo or google e-mails. I can get to my inbox but when i click on the e-mail the computer responds "loading" and then times out. I have firefox and chrome browsers installed on this computer and can access my yahoo & google e-mails normally. I can also access my e-mails via ie8 normally on the other two computers.

I tried uninstalling ie8 and did manage to do this after uninstalling sp3. I then tried installing ie 7 but could still not access my e-mails. When i uninstalled ie 7 i was able to access my e-mails using ie6 (but it is very slow!). I reinstalled ie 8 and sp3 on the computer and still no success. I prefer ie8 to firefox and chrome and would welcome any suggestions to troubleshoot this problem.

Ie Will Not Open After Updating To Ie8

I recently reformatted my desktop pc and reinstalled xp home sp2. I have updated to sp3. I have just finished updating ie to ie8. I rebooted but, upon restarting, explorer did not open in the usual way. I selected my account to log in and my settings loaded but, when my desktop appeared, there was no taskbar and none of my icons. There was a small popup window about personalization of my browser settings (i'm sorry, for some reason i can't recall the wording) in the top left corner but, unfortunately, it hung and i had to reboot without shutting down properly.

Now, explorer starts as usual and, other programs seem to be fine but, when i click to open ie8, i get the little animated hourglass on my cursor for a moment or two - as though it is about to open - but then, it stops and nothing else happens. I would appreciate some direction on how to rectify the situation. I have to make do with a dial-up internet connection at the moment and so, if there's a way to fix it without downloading anything (simply because it takes a long time), that would be preferable.

Live Mail Unable To Open Message Store

First message: windows live mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the windows live mail message store. Windows live mail was unable to locate its message database. If you've moved the database files to a new location, click ok to reset the database path to that location. Otherwise, click cancel to proceed, any existing messages found will be available under orphaned accounts. (0x00000000)

Click ok then get. Second message: windows live mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the windows live mail message store. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. (0x800700002) click ok program closes.

I installed window 7 (custom)  and did the easy transfer. Everything else works but windows live mail. I've tried de-installing and re-installing but that didn't work.

Attachments Wont Open In Ie8

Vista home premium, att.net/yahoo email, norton internet security.pdfs and word docs open everywhere, including web sites all accessed through ie 8. However, on att.net my email attachments will not open or save (word, pdfs). Uninstalled norton and they still won't save or open so i reinstalled norton. All was fine until a week ago or so. If i use mozilla and access att.net attachments open just fine.

Specifically i open the email, click on the attachment, norton scans (maybe through yahoo), says no viruses so i hit download attachment box, file download box opens and asks if i want to save or open, click either one and file download box opens with no info in time remaining boxes, etc. , Box just sits there with the graphics running and nothing happening.

Ie8 Some Links Open, Some Don't

I am new to the forums and i need help with windows 7 ie8, version 8. 0. 7600. 16385ic. I have been searching the forums for a solution but can't seem to find one that will help me. I will try to make this brief with minimal background info. Recently upgraded from vista home premium to windows 7 home home premium on an hp slimline s3000f. 32-bit os & amd athlon 64 x2 dual core processor. I noticed this problem after the recent security update for ie8 on 3/30

When i try to click a link on a page one of 2 things happen. If i am performing a search and click on the link, it opens in the tab the search was performed in. If i am clicking a link that should open a new tab such as in a yahoo or hotmail email or as i am writing this question, there are links on the left side of the page that appeared as simular questions, nothing happens when i click the links. One other thing i notice is when i close ie8, it does not ask if i want to close all tabs and when i access again i get an message to restore previous page or close.

From what i have read about others having this problem, i've looked in my program files ie8 folder for "c:program files (x86)internet exploreriexplore.exe ", all i see is "c:program filesinternet exploreriexplore.exe". When i look at the target on the shortcuts i see the same thing. I changed the target to "c:program files (x86)internet exploreriexplore.exe " and tried to start ie only to get an error "not valid".

I also have a laptop that is running vista with ie8 and not having a problem at all with ie8.

Ie8 Won't Start / Open

So i've done a bunch of searching around and cant find anyone who has had the same problem i am having. Basically it is pretty simple. I click on any ie8 shortcut, the computer thinks for a second and then nothing. I went through the steps to disable (the ie8 "uninstall") the program and then re-enable hoping that would solve it, but nothing has changed. I am kinda at wits end because i cant download and reinstall ie8 on windows 7 and i cant get a previous version like ie7 because that isn't supported as well. 95% of what i do can be done on other browsers, but that 5% is driving me crazy. Any ideas?
