Monitor Shut Off After Boot Screen

Can't believe i have to ask this problem again, previously my problem is my screen gets lower resolution when windows supposed to shows login screen (honestly it's remain unsolved) now my monitor suddenly just turn off when windows supposed to shows login screen (even though i can clearly hear the login screen's sound. )

It works fine after i press the power button to power up my laptop, the monitor showing bios & windows boot screen, but after that my monitor just turn off. Even when i'm performing clean boot (disable all startup items and disable other than microsoft services via msconfig) this problems still remains.

The only thing i could do it's just press the power button to shut down my laptop improperly then press the power button again to power up, then the problem's gone. Why this problem come on my 1st boot, suddenly gone in 2nd boot and sometime happens again when i'm trying to restart or power up again after shutting down my laptop from my 2nd boot?

Win7 Lock Disables Monitor Shut Off

I worked with medical records, and i found a screen lock that also disabled the task manager, but that feature doesn't work with 7. I tried using 7's built in lock feature, but my monitors don't shut off at the 5 minute idle time setting i've set. When i use the old lock, the monitors go off after being idle, even when i have my tv card running underneath.

I tried searching to see if others have reported that problem here, but i didn't come up with anything. Has anyone run into this problem and come up with any work-arounds or fixes?

Shut Down Computer From Login Screen

I have my windows 7 systems set up with user account passwords. I sometimes accidentally bump my keyboard and wake my computer up from sleep mode, taking it to the login screen where it waits for a password. How do you shut the computer off or put it back to sleep from the login screen? There isn't a button or anything. Does windows not let you shut the computer off until you log in? It's a completely unnecessary hassle to have to log in to put the computer back to sleep, not to mention if someone else in my family accidentally woke the computer up they wouldn't be able to put it back to sleep at all.

Laptop Screen Doesn't Restart After Shut Off To Save Energy

I have a 2 weeks old lenovo laptop g460. When i leave the laptop alone it'll shut off the screen as a energy saving option but the screen doesn't restart when i get back to it. I've tried pressing esc, power button, ctrl+alt+del, clicked the mouse, the mouse pad, the screen on fn +f2 but nothing will restart the screen unless i do a forced shutdown and startup again. Sometimes i leave the laptop alone to do disk defrag using mydefrag, i am worried about system instability in the long run in addition to the sheer inconvenience it causes. Any idea how to resolve this?

Win7 Loses Second Monitor After Boot

I just installed windows 7 pro (x64) on my machine with two monitors using a nvidia geforce gtx 260 with dual dvi ports. When my machine starts to boot, post all the way up to the windows logo displays on my dell monitor, and when the login prompt comes up it is on my acer monitor (my primary display). After login, my acer display works great, but my dell monitor doesn't
Exist at all as far as windows is concerned.

Ive gone into the nvida control panel and clicked "setup multiple displays" but i cant as it only sees my acer. I go to device manager, but it only sees one monitor as well.considering the dell is displaying post, as well as windows logo that displays during windows boot, i'd guess that both the bios and windows see the monitor, but something happens right about when it requests a user login. Any ideas?

Monitor Goes Directly In Sleep Mode On Boot Up

I bought a computer last week online (had it built from a popular site that i've used before). The computer worked fine for a few days. Last night, in the middle of playing a game, it crashed or something. Upon reboot, the monitor went directly into power saving mode. I thought my old monitor was t he problem, so i bought a new monitor. Same thing. When i turn it on, the monitor goes right into sleep mode. Maybe once out of every 20 or 30 reboots it will actually boot up, or i can spam f8 and get it to boot into safe mode.

I read online to turn off all the power-saving options. So i did (and i also installed the new monitor driver from the disc while i was able to do so). Rebooted. Same  problem. Every time i boot up, all i see is a black screen and the monitor goes right into power saving mode, hitting f8 does nothing, no normal boot screens even appear. The boot up "beep" never sounds off, and the fan seems to die down very quickly as well. Whats really confusing is that it worked fine for like 5 days. Then poof there's some kind of conflict.

Maybe the onboard video card is turned on in the bios or something? I don't know cause i cant even get that far. Booting up gets me to a sleeping monitor every time. Anyone got any ideas? These are the exact parts i am working with: amd phenom ii x2 550 dual-core cpu4gb ddr2-800 pc6400ati radeon hd5750 1gb single cardasus m4a785-m amd785g hybrid crossfire chipset power supply 600 watt windows 7 (64 bit)

Win 7 Fails To Detect 2nd Monitor On Boot

Clean install of win7 with ati radeon hd4550 pci express graphics card. Running a mitsubishi diamond plus 100e monitor and a sony multiscan 500ps monitor, both off the 4550 card. On boot, the primary (mitsubishi) monitor is detected and the second (sony) monitor is not. I can open the control panel for screen resolution and see both monitors correctly identified. If i select extend these displays, windows re-labels the sony monitor as generic pnp and the sony monitor then activates and works properly.

As soon as i shut down the computer and reboot, the sony monitor is again undetected and i have to go through the whole process again. I have deleted all ati drivers and reinstalled current catalyst drivers (8. 732, 5/26/2010), as well as current motherboard drivers. (Motherboard is gigabyte ma790gp-ds4h). Integrated graphics card on motherboard is currently disabled, although this made no difference to the problem.

Black Screen When Using A Monitor

I am on a windows 7 starter net book. I just got a new monitor that has a lower resolution than my old one, it no longer works. When trying to use just the monitor the screen goes black. When trying to start windows in low resolution it starts it in low resolution on the netbook screen and not the monitor screen. When it is being sent out of both the monitor and the netbook the resolution is just what my netbook is. Is there a way that i can modify the resolution of the monitor because right now it is basically useless.

Monitor Not Displaying On All The Screen

I have just completed the windows 7 home premium upgrade (from windows vista home premium) on my dell studio xps 16 laptop. Everything has gone smoothly except now, when i connect my laptop to my dell sw2409w 24" monitor (via hdmi), i'm having a small issue. While windows does indeed detect the monitor type correctly and sets the resolution to 1920x1080, it doesn't fill up the entire screen. There is a 1-2" black space all the way around the outside.

I initially went into the monitor settings (using the buttons on the monitor) to auto-adjust the screen settings, but they're all disabled in hdmi mode. The monitor works perfectly with my other computer, and the screen on the laptop is fine too. I've updated the monitor driver, as well as the driver for my video card (ati mobility radeon hd 4670).

Any suggestions?

Boot Up Screen

I bought an hp mini 210 netbook  and when it is booting up right before the username menu when its just a black screen loading a tinny colorful line appears at the top of the screen for about 15 seconds. I asked a geek squad guy and he said that it was just windows seven doing its regular resolution test that it does when it boots up. However just to be on the safe side i exchanged it for the same model of netbook to make sure it wasn't the machine but the line was still their. So i was just wondering if it is really just a resolution test that windows does before booting. And does any one get the same line.

Screen Freezes And Monitor Goes Black

Win 7 ultimate os, 32-bit pc. I use my system only during the weekends or sometimes in the morning before work. While working on the system, browsing or may be even playing songs all of sudden my system hangs or monitor goes black, at that time m left with no option but to shut down the system from ups. I have checked for virus, my sys is upto date.

I have done system restore, last known good configuration. Everything works brilliant after that, again after few days problem occurs. I dont have reason why my system is having this issue. I do download lot of songs. But like i said i scan each time. Please suggest, sooner the better.

Black Screen During Boot Sequence

We have a dell xps 730. Running 32 bit  vista. Upgraded to window 7 32 bit professional. It was working good till yesterday. The computer starts the boot sequence we get the dell screen and the windows screen then it goes black. We have tried  the restore point, the repair and re-installing windows 7. Nothing works. We have run the diagnosis program and it finds no problems with the hardware. We thought of re-installing vista. But would like a other solution.

Black Screen With Cursor On Boot

Upd win 7 pro black screen with cursor on boot, nothing works windows 7 pro ati 5870, latest drivers. X58 chipset , 6 gb ram. Ok. Today, i went on my computer, logged on, then explorer started to crash. It kept restarting explorer and explorer immediately crashed. So, i held the power button for 5 seconds, because there was no other way. When i restarted, the only thing i saw was a black screen with nothing but a movable cursor on it.

So, i tried pressing ctrl alt del, or crtl shift esc to open task manager. Still black screen, nothing happens. I tried startup repair with windows install disk, says remove any new devices. I don't have any new devices. I tried system restore . Says restored successfully , but still black screen at reboot. When i looked at system restore, there was a critical windows update not too long before explorer started to crash, so maybe i screwed up the update by not letting it configure it - i shut it off before it could do anything because the "explorer stopped responding" alert box locked my computer - i could not click anything, and it kept appearing.

Seriously, what the heck is going on? I mean i can reinstall windows, but with all my programs and configuration, this takes days also, the screen flashes at regular intervals, like it's trying to change or recover the display driver. My monitor shows the "no signal" message for about 2 seconds then it shows the cursor again. Upd: after trying to start explorer manually, it finally gave me an error message, it says that explorerframe.dll is missing. But it is not missing, there is a file names explorerframe.dll in the system 32 folder

The resuming windows message appears then the screen goes blank then the screen goes to looking like there is no pc attached at all and reports no signal. We have been using the system regularly and almost daily, on shut down there are updates 1 of n to install. That happened the night before the crash and it was 1 of 1 and taking over 15 minutes so i turned off only the monitor so we could sleep.

I am having a problem booting up windows 7. Everything was ok until i tried to upgrade a print driver. On rebooting the system it hung on the 'please wait. ' screen. I was able to force a shut down which allowed me to start the computer up in safe mode. I've tried resetting the the recovery date to a time prior to the problem occurring but to no avail. I've tried limiting the number of items in start up and disabling the printer but the computer just sits at the please wait screen spinning it's wheels. Can anyone help

Dual Monitor Problem - 2nd Monitor Detected Black

Ok, so i have a dell that was running vista and two monitors. When i upgraded to windows 7 pro i ran into the infamous black screen problem and fixed it. However, i only fixed my main monitor. When i open the display window, both of my monitors are detected but my secondary monitor shows a black screen and the monitor itself says there is no signal detected from my pc.

The strange thing is my pc thinks its working (i can drag a window from my working monitor towards the black one and it moves out of my working monitor into the black screen). I currently have both of them plugged in using a dvi to vga splitter and i have also updated the drivers by clicking the "update driver" button in the monitor properties window. Please help if you can!

Cannot Move Windows From One Monitor To Other - Dual Monitor Setup

I have two monitors of the same resolution connected to an ati radeon hd 4300/4500 video card. In windows 7 extended mode i see a full working desktop on one monitor, but only the background picture on the other - the four-square flag motif again a blue background with wispy lines, butterfly etc.

No taskbar, icons or anything else. On one occasion briefly the mouse cursor appeared on it instead of on the full desktop image. If i try to drag a window on to the second monitor it won't go there. The settings are landscape with two mointors "1" and "2". I have two images but how can i use the second one?

Dual Boot Boot Problem After Resizing Win 7

Boot problem on dual boot after resizing windows 7 (32bit) switched from drive w: to drive g: i have a dual boot system that boots into win 7 (64) (c:drive) or win 7 (32) (w:drive). I needed to increase the size of win7 (64) drive and in order to do so i needed to move the win 7 (32) partition. Now i can still boot into win 7 (64) with no problem but when i boot into win 7 (32) it windows states that it is not a genuine copy and it is actually on drive "g:"! Anyway to change it back to "w:" because i believe this is the problem.

Dual Boot - Move Boot Image To Second Drive

I have a problem with two different drives both running win7, one 32 the other drive64, on a dual boot system. I want to pull the win32 drive, but it also has my boot information for the win64 drive. When removed it will not boot. I have been working on this for 5-6 weeks. I want to remove the win7/32 and put the boot image of win7/64 on the second drive.

I booted from the win764 install dvd, and went to there pair your computer. The placethat displays the operating systems installed, none will show. I have tried bootsect from the command prompt. It seems to work, but tells me no partition on the second drive. Or on another attribute used, it can not find the path to the drive. I have tried rebuild bcd, fixmbr, etc.

Boot Takes Minutes, Will Boot In Safe Mode

When i booted up this arvo, the computer took 15 minutes to get to the log in screen. Upon clicking the profile image, i had to wait another 5 minutes of unresponsiveness for even the desktop background to display. Rebooted 3-4 times, still happened, booted in safe mode, (which is how i'm writing this) and initially thought it was msmpeng.exe that was causing me issues, so i removed mse once i finally managed to get it going in normal mode. I thought the problem was fixed when i rebooted, and i had about 4-5 minutes of normal speeds before it slowed right down and became unresponsive.

When the computer is running, the actual computer itself sounds fine (hard disk is chattering away) but when going slow and unresponsive it only makes noises every 1-2 seconds, if that makes any sense, as if it's under a really heavy load. Hard to tell because i cant open anything. Ran a system restore, didn't do anything. I need help soon! I suspect a driver issue, but i'm just speculating. Specs: windows 7 home premium 64 bit 6gig ddr3 ram i7-860 cpu ati 5770 gpu

Dual Boot - 1 Xp And 3 Win 7 Boot Choices

I've installed win 7 on my d drive, with win xp still on c, with the idea of having a dual boot system. Due to installation problems, i now show the xp boot choice, and 3 win 7 boot choices, with only the most recent valid. How do i purge the b. Boot.ini doesn't appear to be relevant. Win 7 utility boot rewriter program to re-point boot to ntldr will wipe out all pointers to win 7 for booting, but comes back with an extra win 7 pointer, the next time i load win 7.
