Disk Read Error And Recovery Disk Not Working

I have a toshiba satellite c650 that has recently come up with a disk read error. I want to access the command prompt to try some potential solutions that i have read about on the internet. I have made a windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop which also has windows 7 installed. When i use the recovery disk and it has loaded the files etc it just brings up a black screen and the cursor. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? I tried booting my acer laptop from the recovery disk and it worked fine. Also does anyone have any suggestions as to why i am getting the 'disk read error - hit ctrl, alt and delete to restart' message?

Read Disk Error

I was wondering if you'd be kind enough to help me? I followed this tutorial after creating a duel boot with windows xp http://blogs. Techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?P=1751 and for some reason i get the read disk error. No matter what i try, nothing seems to work following all the bcd commands, fixmbr and fixboot.

All i want to do is delete my xp partition and start using 7 to it's full on the hdd. I'm sure it's something really simple, but i can't for the life of me figure it out?

Disk Read Error

Well i started a couple of days ago at first when i booted up my computer it came up saying something was preventing it from starting and it could be caused by a hardware change or installed software and it asked me to put in the repair disc. So i did this it managed to fix it for a while then randomly it started again so i repeated what i did last time with out any success so i switched off the computer and tried again same kept happening for about 5 restarts so i gave up and left it. Then the next it works again but when i restart my computer to make sure i get this disk read error with it saying ctrl-alt-dlt to restart so i did this and over and over again it kept coming up.

But then i got the error that i mentioned at the start and so i repeated the process no success but then randomly it works again. This problem keeps on occurring randomly and going away randomly and it is unbelievably annoying as some times it can take minutes to fix sometimes hours. So is there any fix to this problem or is a reinstall of windows 7 the only option.

Disk Read Error On Loading

Yesterday, i was working on windows 7, not overloading or something, but suddenly i heard the sound of the hdd that you hear when it stops (when you shut-down), and the pc stopped responding except the pointer. I restarted, and it gave me:

Disk read error
Press ctrl+alt+del

I restarted, it sort of booted giving me the 2 choices of windows 7:

-Start normally
-Launch repair

In start normally it loads up the boot screen but just after that it restarts. It restarted and read the hdd like "bzbzbzbz" after post. I entered bios, it read it as 571 gb and some weird stuff.

I happened to have live cd of linux on my usb flash (on which i'm working now), i mounted hard disk drives, they all work! But the "documents and settings" folder is empty.

This problem happened before and i don't know what the cause is?

Is it the mbr, track zero or sata controller? And please tell if i could do something through my usb flash (like launching a specific test or fix)

Disk Read Error Win 7 Wont Load

On monday my computer worked fine in the morning, and then i drove 5 hours back to school and when i attempted to turn the computer on i got a "disk read error press ctl+alt+del to restart"today, i burned a copy of the vista recovery disc to a cd and booted from there and ran a repair. I then also followed instructions from a forum on here that said os was not listed when he ran the repair. That cleared up the disk error problem. However, now my computer will still not load windows. It keeps loading to a windows error recovery screen and i get the options to start in safe mode, normally, or last known working stage and i have done all of those and they attempt to run and then the computer shuts down and restarts itself.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas, i am running to recovery disk again now to see if my operating system can be located. Bout 3 weeks ago the hard drive that came with the computer crashed and we ordered a new one. It seems unlikely to me that the hard drive could have failed in such a short amount of time. I am running windows vista home premium 32 bit on my dell inspiron 1525. Edit 1217 csti am currently running the recovery disk and my screen is at system recovery options and it still appears that my os will not be listed.

Dvd Drive Wont Read Disks - Error Please Insert Disk

I recently upgraded to windows 7. The drive worked fine as i used it to install the os. On start up windows wouldn't recognize the drive. Finding that this was a common problem on dual boot win7 x64 i tried the 3 standard fixes (f8 on start up, change letter of drive, upper and lower field reg edit) i briefly had the drive working but after about 10 minutes (while i was using the drive) it crashed and disappeared.

I went to the manufacturers site and downloaded the latest software for it, windows installed this and said it was working fine, i can now see the drive but it wont read anything, every time i put a disk in (any disk) it tells me the drive is empty when it isn't and spits it out. I have tried the windows troubleshoot program from the support site, it detects a problem but cant fix it.

The device manager shows the drive as installed and working. The lens shouldn't need cleaning as the drive is less than a month old. Please help, i've run out of ideas.system - dual boot xp / win 7 x64, xp on samsung 1tb hdd win 7 on maxtor 200gb hdd, 4gb ram, intel core 2 duo 3ghz, asus p5g43m motherboard, nvidia 8500gt gpu

Error Code - 2 - System Cannot Find The File Specified

Error copying to external drive: error code 2 "system cannot find the file specified" i've been trying to perform a mirror style backup to my external drive of everything in c:users. First of all i tried using robocopy (my preferred tool) with the command line running as administrator and that failed after copying a few hundred files. It came up with error code 2, system cannot find the file specified. I used robocopy c:users h:ackup_win7 /b /m /e /dcopy:t /r:0 /xj

I then tried using the freeware tool fbackup, this also managed to copy a few hundred files before getting stuck in the same way (at a different point).

Finally, i tried picking one set of folders (pictures) and doing a manual copy/paste into the destination directory, this also failed after copying a few hundred files with an error about not finding the file.

The actual files it fails on are nothing special, just regular jpg. If i create a simple test.txt on the drive it works fine. The problem only seems to occur with large numbers of files being copied and where it actually fails seems to depend on which tool i use to copy the files.

Each time this problem occurs my system goes into meltdown with massive cpu usage and then windows won't let me dismount the drive as it insists something is still trying to do something with it.

The only way out is to restart the computer. I've tried running chkdsk /r on the external drive (a seagate freeagent 1tb drive via usb 2) and no errors were found. The drive in question worked perfectly with xp sp3 for several months and has no problems reading from files in windows 7, just this writing issue. I've also tried turning off all services with msconfig, but that just meant that the external drive wouldn't mount at all.

My system is an athlon 64 x2 5600+ running at 2. 9ghz, with 4gb of ddr2 800 on a msi k9n v3 motherboard and an nvidia 8500 gt graphics card. The source disk is a 300gb hitachi sata drive. Overall system performance (aside from this issue) seems very good. I'm using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, installed from a clean install after xp was previously on the disk.

Usb Flash Drive Error - Volume Does Not Contain Recognized File System

I plugged in my usb flash drive into a computer using windows 7. It always prompts me to scan and fix or cancel. I canceled every time, but i got annoyed with it popping up every time, so i told it to scan and fix. A loading screen came up so i patiently waited. After completion it asks to format my usb flash drive. I can't format it though because i have homework files and all my other personal files on there. So i canceled the format, but every time i plug it into my computer it asks t format it. I even plugged it into a computer running on windows xp and it wanted to format it.

When i try to run it without formatting it it says, "e: is not accessible. The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted. " My question is, what did windows 7 do to my flash drive and how do i recover my data?

Live File System Will Not Save File

Live file system will not save file!Windows 7 and udf will copy several files and then you get to the last file which is 700 meg and the space free bar under the dvd rw drive shows 1. 2 gig left. The copy starts and runs till about 350 meg left then it slows down all the way to 17 kbs and also till 10 k was left on the dvd. By this time about 5 hrs have gone by and the copy window has showed 1 hr left for 3 hrs. The cancel button won't work task manager when used will crash the system. You can force a shut down but then you have to reactivate norton with your purchase code. A search of the internet for me was no help at all.

Migrate System Partition To New Disk

I just bought a new ssd 30gb "disk", and to benefit from it i want to move my system partition to it. Besides system partition, i have two more partitions on my magnetic disk (linux and data partition). My data partition is 400gb large, and i don't want any risk for it. I have done so far:

Shrank the size of the system partition to below 30gb (to 24gb in my case, only 20 gb were actually used)

Copied this partition to the new disk (with resizing to 29. 8gb)
Marked this partition as active (the partition is primary)
Changed bios settings to boot from ssd

But, the ssd has drive letter f:, and all the paths are still pointing to c: (which is a partition on magnetic disk), and everything is being run from there (there is no speed improvement so far from the new ssd "disk"), in spite disk management's claim that "f: is system partition". My question is: how can i swap drive letters for partitions c: and f:, or more precisely, how can i make f: partition become c: (the current c: partition is not important any more)?

A Kernel File Is Missing From The Disk

Windows 7 installed perfectly. I have 2 hard drives. One 500gb which is my primary where windows 7 is installed. And another 160gb which was my old primary hard drive that contained win xp 32 bit. The 160gb hard drive was partitioned into 2 partitions and i wanted to merge those two and make it to one partition. But i had to format both partitions.

I formatted the second partition easily but the partition which had the windows xp didn't allow me to format it. So i used a gpart bootable disc and then formatted the two partitions again. That's where the problem started. After i restarted my computer, "a kernel file is missing from the disk. Insert a system diskette and restart the system. " Appeared. And i can't boot to windows 7 no matter what i do. I'm really desperate to make use of my windows 7 pc again.

How To Create Bootable System Repair Disk On Usb ?

How can i create a bootable version of a "system repair disk" on my hard disk drives or on a usb stick?

Explanations/why i ask the question: i have ordered a pc that will come with the 64 bit version of windows 7 ultimate and with 3 hard disks. My pc manufacturer/assembler told me, that they do not install bootable recovery partitions on the hard disk drives of their pcs.

Therefore, when i will eventually need to restore my system with the windows 7 "system image recovery" tool to the state of a previously created system image, i will need to use a system repair disc (that i have previously created on a dvd) to boot the "system image recovery" tool.

In principle, this seems to be sufficient, because it is hopefully relatively seldom that i will need to restore my c partition to a previous state (in the past, i did this mainly when participating in a software beta programs in order to restore my pc to the "clean and reliable" state prior to the installation of the unreliable beta-software).

I am however concerned about becoming dependent for the restore of a system image on a properly functioning dvd drive (they seem to be less reliable than, for example, hard disk drives). It would be a severe problem for me, to detect at the time of an attempted system restore, that my dvd drive is not functioning anymore.

Therefore, i would like to know if and how, i could reliably create for windows 7 ultimate (64 bit) a bootable version of a "system repair disk" on one of my internal hard disks or on an externally attached  usb disk or usb stick. I will appreciate to get a description (or to be pointed to a description) that a regular windows user can understand (i am not a pc system programmer and i am not familiar at all with things like the registry or sdks)

Striping Existing System Volume / Disk Drive

I'm just wondering can i convert my current single os disk to be striped in windows 7? I'd like to get a bit of extra hdd performance but i don't want to have to reinstall windows. So i'm wondering if you can do this on a live system disk.

My board has some hardware raid support but i think that'll wipe the disks if i try and make a raid with them. I don't think the hardware raid performance on these consumer mother boards is that great anyway so a software raid will be fine if i can do it.

Disk Boot Failure Insert System Disc

I have recently built a new i7 920 computer with new components such as motherboard (ga ex58 ud3r) and new sata ii hdd. The sata is connected to one of the many sata ports with a sata cable. There are also two gsata ports but not sure whether the hdd is supposed to be connected to it. A dvd drive is connected with a 'ribbon' connector to the motherboard but not sure whether it should be connected with the end connector or the middle connector (the ribbon wire has 3 connectors, one connected to the motherboard and one to the dvd with one spare connector).

I have windows 7 home premium upgrade as i have a key for vista. The bios detects that a hdd and dvd drive are present (hdd as ide master 1 and dvd as ide slave 4). I set the bios to boot from cd-rom, however there is no option for dvd-rom. I insert the windows 7 home premium upgrade dvd and reboot the computer. However, i still get the "disk boot failure, insert system disc" message. Is this because i cant boot from an upgrade dvd or that it is still not booting from the dvd?

Win 7 Creates System Repair Disk Without Including The 3rd Party

Windows 7 creates "system repair disk" without including the 3rd party pci-sata driver required to see my sata drives. I upgraded a 2002 vintage pc with a siliconimage sil3512 pci sata controller and 2 500g sata drives. It was slightly annoying that out of the box win 7 did not include the drivers (when every recent version of linux i've tried did). I got win 7 installed by loading the driver when asked. I guess win 7 cannot include every legacy driver.

The surprising thing is that when i ask win 7 to create a system repair disk (presumably to repair the system used to create the disk) it leaves out the driver that it should know is required to make repair possible. Seems like sloppy work to me.

File Transfer From Mac In Target Disk Mode To Win 7 Via Firewire

i'm trying to transfer my music collection from a mac running osx onto my windows 7 laptop pc.

Have just forked out for a firewire cable and am trying to get that working.

Have switched the mac into "target disk mode" which makes it behave just like an external hard drive and plugged it into my laptop via firewire.

Windows 7 recognizes an "sbp2 compliant ieee 1394 device" has been plugged in.

However - i cannot browse the mac's files. Under devices and printers the h: drive appears but it is not browsable.

Have tried all three ieee 1394 drivers, and interestingly "1394 ohci compliant host controller (legacy)" driver is the only one where a "browse" tab appears in the devices and printers bit. However when i open the drop down, a h: appears, but it is greyed out and not clickable.

Any ideas?

Error - Logonui Exe No Disk - Outlook Exe No Disk

I have windows 7 professional running 64 bit. A very annoying error pops up every five minutes or so. The message varies and can read "logonui exe no disk" or "outlook exe no disk" or "your favorite app. - No disk" depending on what i am running at the time. I have looked at many forums and can see that this error occurred in previous windows flavors. Some answers point to malware or infected file, others seem to think it's a corrupt install file. I have a fresh install of win 7. My previous os being xp.

I have reinstalled win7 and tried repair functions. No luck so far.

Disc Read Error

So back when i was reppin' xp, i believe i had a disc read error that prevented my computer from functioning. Since i am not a computer whiz, my solution to the problem was to wait for windows 7 to come out, which came out about a week after i had the error. A quick fix.

So i managed to install windows 7 and salvage my computer, so to speak. After the installation, every time i booted up the computer, the computer did not take me straight to the log-in welcome screen. Instead i was confronted with 3 options; run xp, run windows 7, or run in safe mode, i believe. (I am not entirely sure of this because this screen no longer occurs, and i quickly adapted to scrolling down to the run windows 7 option instead of inventorying the options into my memory. ) So this sufficed, and i had no qualms with the odd starting screen because, _, the computer worked.

Fast forward a couple months and i was confronted with a bootmgr issue. Not knowing what that was, i looked it up and was able to get a program on a disc to help alleviate that issue. This allowed me to use my computer for 2-3 days, but with intermitten and gradually increasing computer "hiccups". What i mean by a hicuup is that my computer would freeze, in the begining for maybe a minute, and then it would unfreeze and i was allowed to use my computer again. These were not programs freezing, for my music would halt as well as the other program i was using at the time. After a time period elapsed (of my computer being frozen), my computer would spit static through the speakers and start playing again, with the song proceeded. So i missed part of the song, and i resumed doin' work.

As i mentioned before, the freezes progressively got worse. From 1 minute long freezes to 30 minute freezes, to freezes which i presumed were infinite. ( For the last freeze, i went downstairs and watched a movie, as a reference to how long the freeze could last. It was frozen when i returned). Eventually i was no longer able to even access my computer in a functioning state.

Going back to the bootmgr program i put on a disc, i was able to access a very limited program that frankly did nothing, which was probably due to my lack of computer competence. After a couple of days of trying to manage that, my computer failed to even load that program. Now i am confronted with this; a black screen, with or without the disc for the bootmgr, with a blinking cursor. After the cursor blinks a couple times, a disc read error text appears and offers me the option of restarting through ctrl alt delete. Restarting does nothing but further a cyclical response of disc read error.

What do yall think?

Error Message - Memory Could Not Be Read

Recently, i've noticed the following error message appear intermittently on shutdown:

Ccsvchst.exe - application error

The instruction at 0x69a808cd referenced memory at 0x6cbdc1eo. The memory could not be read. I just click ok, and the system shuts down. But i am unable to find a cause or solution for this error message. I am running win 7 home premium 64-bit on a self-build machine, with an asus p5q deluxe mb, intel q9550 cpu, and 8 gb ram. The system seems to be running normally except for this occasional error message.

Delete File In System Volume Information

I had a hardware failure last week, which resulted in a new installation of windows 7. However i'm left with a 220gb file in system volume information on a storage drive.

I'd like to delete it, but i don't have permission, nor do i seem to be able to give myself permission to do it.

It's likely the result of a previous backup - however i have subsequently changed my backup procedure and i'm absolutely sure that this does not contain any data that i would like preserved.

Given that it's such a large file, i want it gone.

Live File System Burning Problem

I had a problem with windows 7 home premium & live file system burning. Slow burning and reduced dvd disc capacity - see orig post below. This is not an uncommon problem and is windows 7 related - it is a universal disk format file system driver issue. There is a hotfix available - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975617. See issue 3. It worked.

"I burn slowly at 500k and approx. 1gb will "fill" a 4. 7gb dvd. I've updated drivers, bios, motherboard chipset drivers, burner firmware and installed a new burner. Nero burns fine as does a mastering burn. Dvd+r & dvd-r discs are affected. Dvd-rw burn fast and with no problems. I have done a clean install of windows 7 and applied updates, yet i have the same problem. There is no av or other software running - just windows 7. All drivers are windows certified afaik. No usb devices either.

If i do a clean install of vista sp2 business on the same machine, there is no problem and i can burn live file system dvd discs on any media at >3mb/sec and get full disc capacity. So it's definitely windows 7 related. "
