Saving To Network Drive From Ie8

A client system (xp sp3, novell network, non-admin account) here is having issues saving documents from within ie8 to her assigned network drive. (I know more technical details for the network/setup may be warranted but for now i'm hoping someone has seen this or knows a fix based on this basic info).

None of her mapped network drives show up as possible save locations from within the ie8 "save as" dialogue. Her drives are  working fine otherwise; she can read, write, delete, etc. To them from windows explorer and other programs. There doesn't seem to be any further permission issues or drive mapping issues.

In this particular case, the file she wants saved is a pdf. Adobe acrobat is installed and works fine otherwise for viewing, saving pdf docs. The scholastic program she uses insists on launching the pdf from within ie8 when it generates reports for print/view.

Here's what else i know so far: when adobe is launched independently of ie, all of the network drives are available to save to. No issues here. This saving issue applies to all file types, not just pdfs (i tested with an mp3 file too). The pdf issue is just here at the forefront because of its tie-in with ie and the scholastic program that forces ie to handle the pdf.

Is seems to be an issue specific to this user's account permissions and ie8 only. - I installed firefox for testing purposes and from there i can save pdf and mp3 files to all network shares.
There are no settings within the scholastic software to tell it not to launch ie for it's pdf export feature. Even with firefox installed and set as default browser, it spawns an ie window. (Seriously, why would someone program that way?)

I have tried setting the url for the generated pdf to the "intranet zone" type in the security settings of ie. No change. I have confirmed that, as the domain admin, i can saved to these locations from within ie, again: the issue seems account and ie specific.

Clearly there are some work-arounds, but i'm looking for a solution and maybe a explanation to this behavior. A group policy issue? An ie issue? Both?

How Do I Stop Ie8 Saving Login Information?

Ie8 apparently automatically saves login details for saved sites without prompting the user if this is desired. The login details are saved and will be used if the original url is visited again so long as a t least one broswer windo has been open since the last visit.

For example
I log on to etrade www.Etrade.com and sign is with my userid

And password. I then open a second browser window www.Msn.com after checking account details on the etrade window i close it leaving the msn window still open. If i start the etrade url again, even a few days later, i am not prompted for login info just directed straight into account status. This will happen as long as i have at least one browser window open.

As soon as i close all the browser windows the cache is apparently cleared as i am prompted for user id and password if i open the url again. If i log out of the site before closing the account window the cache is apparently flushed for that url, however most people, myself included, would believe that just closing the window is the equivalent of logging off.

Saving A Theme

At time i want to change properties of an existing thme and overwrite the original. Well, when i click "save theme" and type in the same name as an existing theme i end up with 2 themes with the same name. I would assume windows would ask me if i wanted to replace the other theme. I am then forced to delete the original hoping i'm deleting the proper one. Is this normal? What are some guidelines as to saving themes? I change elements of themes frequently. I don't want to save different themes and end up have hundreds of themes on my system.

Saving An Image..?

I have a problem on saving images from a webpage. Yes, i did right-click on an image and click "save image as. " And a window popped out asking where should i save the picture. But every time i save it on my picture folder, it says "there are no more files. " I tried to save it on my music folder and the same thing happened. So i decided to save it on my desktop, but then a small window popped out and said "the file is not valid. "
I used to think that my picture folder didn't have enough space, but it didn't make sense, because when i copied pictures from my friend's pendrive to my picture folder, it worked. And i also thought that it's the web program that has problems (i was using firefox) but that seemed impossible, too, because this problem also occurred when i used internet explorer.
This had never happened before. This problem just recently occurred about a few days ago.
Help me please!

Network Drive

I have a home network with 3 computers running windows xp, a linksys router, and an older western digital my book world hooked to the router. Everything has been working perfectly for about a year. When i added a new computer running windows 7 (64-bit), i can access the my book world from the new computer using windows explorer. However, after some time (usually less than 20 minutes), the my book world freezes and won't respond to any of the computers. I realize that windows 7 is not supported on this drive. I am hoping to discover what to shut off in windows 7 to keep it from freezing the drive.

Ie Problem With File Saving

When i am on the internet, specifically ancestry.com and other such sites, i try to save files to my computer. I try to have them saved to my desktop or documents folder, but they keep getting saved to some temporary folder that i can never find! It is so irritating! When i try to do a search in the start menu, my files never show up, nor does the temporary internet file folder, which i have looked for in all the places they say to look.

What can i do so my computer stops trying to "protect" me by hiding my files? And where do i go to find the ones that are already there?

I'm doing work with pictures, like "save picture as" and thats very annoying (error with every picture) to save file twice. I'm computer's administrator and only user. I don't know what's the problem so i turned here to get help.

Saving Images From Internet

I have accessed a family history website and attempted to save a copy of a certificate. The website gives you the option to save the image online and/or save to your computer. In the past i have chosen to save to my computer and navigated to the relevant folder on my computer, given the file a name and hit the save button. Done! This was using windows xp. I could then view/print the file at any time. It was where i expected it to be in the folder i had created for that purpose.

Now i am told i do not have permission to save to my selected folder on c drive. "Would i like to save to my pictures?" Eventually i relented and said yes.

Result, i can only see the picture when i save another image to the folder. In the save window.

The folder says it is empty when i attempt to view the image through the explorer window. It appears i can only see folders not files in the libraries view. I attempted to create a new folder in the my pictures folder so i could organize the images but i can't see files in there either.

How can i fix the problem?

Folder Setting Not Saving

I noticed that folder settings are not being saved after i restart the pc. There are two scenarios.
1. After i installed winamp media player, all audio files default to that program. I will open an mp3 file with windows media player and tell it to always open with this program. It then opens all mp3 files with wmp instead of winamp, but as soon as i restart it goes back.

2. I have an mp3 player which i connect to the pc and device stage opens it up and says that there is a new update for the player. I hit update and the interface changes. This stays like that until i restart the pc. Once i restart it, the interface goes back to the old one and it tells me there is a new update.

Saving Of Favorites Problem

In win 7-64, ie8, everytime i save a favorite, it saves two lines to the folder. One entry is the name i gave it. That entry will not open the site. The second entry is the complete link  it does open the site. For example:

Saved the following with the name i gave it:
Kitchen cabinet finishing

The second line, never adjacent to the first saved line was:
Kitchen-cabinets-and-hardware.com-kitchen-cabinet-finishing.html

The entry of the name i gave it is useless.

How can i solve this problem?

Saving Passwords And Login Id

I have a brand new laptop with w7 home/pr pre-installed. Auto-update is working so it's up to date. I use a zyxel wireless-n router which is functioning fine with all my xp laptops and my w7. Also attached to the network are a wd nas as well as various print-server connected printers. My security software is zone alarm extreme (up-to-date).

The password issue:
(1)  the w7 laptop logs on fine when i startup in windows and to the network. But when i open explorer and click on the nas, i always have to enter the logon-id even though i tell it to save it.

(2)  passwords are not saved with outlook 2003. I've applied every method in kb 290684 and 829918, including the registry stuff. To no avail.

(3)  windows live mail - same problem - causing failures.

(4)  ie 8 - will not accept a modified default search engine setting . . . Related? So now i use firefox but i need ie since some foreign sites do not accept firefox (even in ie mode). There are no problems with accessing internet sites which require logon and passwords. Since the laptop is new i have not tried local applications with password settings. However, until the email is resolved, the w7 laptop cannot become the primary laptop.

I'm sending this from an xp since i cannot logon with a w/live logon on the w7 laptop. Any suggestions on how to fix this "save password" problem are appreciated.

Disconnected Network Drive

I run win 7 prof at work on my machine that is connected to the internal network and to ms small business server 2003 r2. Recently i installed windows virtual xp mode (exactly as suggested by ms) and have had nothing but trouble ever since - which is slowly getting even worse. Current dilemma (after uninstalling xp mode and virtual stuff) is that having extended my boot system partition (i think i regret this) i have lost all connection to our smb 2003 server.

I have the famous red x over the previously mapped drive/s and get the report that they are disconnected (and "an error occurred - path not found") when i click either of them. I'm nearly out of venom now, preferring to just fix it with a handy ms tool or get some detailed advice (so often missing from the win 7 help let alone smb 2003) on what might be happening. N. B. The server also reports that the path is no good when i query it at its own keyboard about the user "yours truly".

Backup Does Not Allow Backups To Network Drive

Win 7 home premium backup does not allow backups to a network drive but it will allow a restore from network drive. Vista home premium allowed backup and restore to a network drive. I assumed win 7 home premium would have the same capability - wrong. Win 7 allows you to restore from a network drive - so how can you restore if you can't backup there? I thought the win 7 restore capability may have been included for previous versions of backup but it doesn't recognize my old vista premium backups.

Problems Mapping Network Drive

So i have a client who recently bought a newly preinstalled 64-bit windows 7 laptop. We migrated his data over to the new laptop, but he requested that he be able to map a drive on his xp home desktop from his windows 7 laptop. So in simpler terms, he wants to access a partition on his windows 7 machine from his xp desktop.

So what i did was turn on network discovery and disable password protection for his network on the 7 machine. I then shared the partition he wants to access on the 7 machine giving full control to "everyone" group. I then went over to the xp desktop and went to map the drive like you normally do. Opened up the map network drive feature in xp and then browsed for the folder. The 7 machine would show up in the workgroup network, but after clicking it, the hourglass would show up and no folders being shared would show up.

I then just inputted the path of the partition something like "greg-pcdata". A prompt then popped up and so i used the 7 user account credentials and then i received a "access denied" error. After hours of frustration, i gave up. I picked it up again the following day and then when i got to the point of inputting the drive path, i got a different error saying something like "must close existing connections. Cannot have multiple connections". Something like that. I can't remember the whole message since it was pretty long.

Anyways, this where i'm at and i've attempted a couple reboots as well as checking all permissions and creating a new user account on the 7 machine to log on as that user and i've also tried disabling the firewalls all with no luck. Please help out with any advice or tips.

Gpo Network Drive Issue

I'm having problems connecting to our network shares at our office. All the xp machines work fine, but our 7 machines do not. I see this question asked here: http://social. I also found some research on editing secpol. Msc to accept more/different lan settings, but while i can open it, i cannot change the value. I've tried all kinds of troubleshooting-including wmi filters in active directory. Help?

Problem With Mapping Network Drive

I'm using a windows 7 professional now and i've found some problems with mapping network drives.

I'm using a network in my office and i tried to map a network drive from another computer in the office. I could do it when i was using vista, since i know the address and password of that drive, but when i change my os to 7, it is not the same any more. I typed in the address, a window called 'windows security' popes up, asking me to enter a username and password to continue.

First of all, i've no idea what should be the username, since i didn't need to type that in vista.

Second, i tried the password i used in vista, which is the password of that drive, it always says wrong password. Can anyone tell me what to do to solve this problem? I really need the network drive very much!

Restoring Backup To A Network Drive

Is it possible to restore a backup to a network drive? I created a backup of my win7 rc to a mapped nas. I'd like to restore the backup to a folder on the nas to verify the contents of the backup before installing the full retail version. I would also like to be able to hand pick what files i copy from the nas to the new install. When i chose to restore the backup to a different location, the restore button is greyed out when selecting a folder on the w: mapped network drive. I can only click the restore button if select a location on the c: drive.

Can't Access C Drive On A Network

I have set up networking on my two windows 7 computers and one windows xp computer. I have selected to share the c drive on all three machines but when i attempt to access the c drive of my windows 7 pcs from another network pc be it the xp or the win 7 pc i get a message saying i don't have privileges to access this folder. What do i need to change in my win 7 network setup to access this directory from my other computers?

Fyi, i can see and access the windows xp c drive from both win 7 computers. If i share individual folders in the root drive i can share them but that means i have to select every folder i want to share. Xp worked great with network sharing, win 7 not so great. I do like, no love everything else about windows 7. One great operating system.

Duplicate Photo Images Auto Saving

When saving photos into the my pictures library everything seems fine, then as soon as i view one of the jpeg images (with a number) it then creates 2 duplicate images - these are then identified as vcm_s_kf_m followed by numbers adn presume size of image. I do not want these duplicates, i don't know why they are created or what purpose they serve. Can someone explain what they are and how do i stop them occurring. When i go into my own personal file and locate pictures there are no duplicates there!?

Saving Offline Files To A Seperate Partition

When i installed win7 on my vaio i created a separate partition for my data (d:) & reserved the smaller (40gb) c: partition for system files. When i activate offline files, it quickly fills the c partition as it is storing these offline files in the csc folder.

I followed all the advice i received in the folowing thread:

http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7files/thread/6af0cf60-84f6-4e48-b0a1-2780a5fd7b7a
Without success. Apparently i'm not the only one having this probem. It still tells me that 'access is denied' when trying to delete csc folder.

Saving Display Settings And Monitor Position

I currently am running two nvidia graphics cards with 4 displays. I have an 8800gtx running my primary and my tv in the other room. These two displays are cloned and used strictly as a primary display. I then am running a gt220 with my other two displays as extended desktops. One on the left of the primary and one on the right. I have the displays set up correctly and working in the display settings but when i restart, the extended monitors are not oriented to split the main screen. So i have to go back in to the display settings every time and change their positions. I have the latest nvidia drivers installed.

Once again

Extended - primary / primary - extended

(Gt220)      (8800gtx)           (gt220)

I just need a way to save this setup so that i dont have to change it every time i startup or restart. I wouldn't even mind if i could have a script that i could run on startup that would set it to these positions.

I tried setting up a folder to save to but had the same problem, image says it is saved but it doesn't show and can't be found by search.

I can save images as an adobe and have no problems but i don't get the option to choose how it is saved, it is just as jpeg.

Drive Is Not Accessible - Permission To Use Network Resource

I have done a clean win 7 64 bit install on c drive on my pc that used to be xp. The hard drive has two partitions c drive and d drive. The win 7 pc also has two other hard drives installed each with a single partition (e drive and v drive). The hard drives are not raid configured. The e and v drives were not involved in the win7 installation and therefore still have their xp configuration.
Prior to installing win 7 all partitions on all hard drives on the pc were accessible on the three other xp machines on my "workgroup" home network.

On the win7 machine i can access all drives on all of the xp machines. On any of the xp machines i can access the e and v drives on the win7 machine. When i try to access the win7 c drive or d drive from any of the xp machines i get:

"Pcpc (x) drive is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource" where (x) is either c or d depending on what drive was accessed.

I have tried un-sharing and re-sharing the c and d drive. I have also compared the property settings between the c and d drives that i can't access with the e and v drives that are accessible. Those setting are the same. Please advise any thoughts on what can be done to render my c and d drives accessible on my network xp pcs.
