How To Block System Access To Hard Drives?

Basically, i want to block windows from accessing a certain drive, my macintosh drive (e: drive).

I'm using a macbook, running the latest version of os x snow leopard, i dual boot windows 7 ultimate, and access my mac drives with macdrive8. Whenever i'm running windows 7, certain applications will write a folder/file onto my macintosh partition, thinking it's a normal partition, thus corrupting my macintosh partition. I basically want to block anything on windows (including the os itself) from writing to it. Is there any way to do this? Seriously, i'll try anything.

Cannot Access Internal 1tb Drives

I upgraded to windows 7 from vista and now cannot access one of my internal 1 tb drives (not the boot drive) containing 330 gb of music. I have ownership of the drive and have tried several suggestions on other forums which have not worked. Again, i get the message "access denied" when i attempt to access my k drive with my music on it. When i attempt to access the drive, i also sometimes also get a message that says "the recycle†bin†on†k: is corrupted. Do you wish to empty the recycle bin for this drive?", Which i do but there is no change in access to the drive.

I have reloaded windows 7 once with no change. I have attempted to take ownership of the drive, but it appears that i already have ownership. I cannot however change anything under the security tab†under properties. Each time i try to change anything, i get the message "access denied". Can anyone provide assistance?

Loss Of Access To Mapped Network Drives

I have a sbs 2003 with all the current updates. One of the networked desktops has been upgraded to windows 7 professional as a clean install. When the desktop initially logs in as a network user all the mapped network drives are visible and accessible. After a period of time the networked drives are not accessible as indicated by error: an unexpected network error occurred. I can see the server in the list of computers but cannot access it either. The only resolution is to log the user off and log back on.

Win7 Loses Access To Network Drives

So every so often windows 7 losses access to my network. Meaning, outlook cannot connect to exchange, any mapped network drives are not†accessible, and any shared folders are not accessible. And when you try to connect, that window is then locked and cannot be killed not madder what "tool" you try to use to kill the process. This goes for outlook and any other program that tries to access any data on the network. They freeze and there is no way to kill them. And believe me i have spent hours trying to figure out some way to kill a process in windows 7. Pskill, taskkill, etc. None work.

But i can access the internet. As i type this my outlook is frozen, 3 windows are forzen, and one†application†is frozen all are trying to get data from the network. The only way to fix this is to reboot. And i mean a hard reboot. Windows will not shutdown or restart. Let is sit for over 24 hours and it just said logging off. You have to hard power down the computer. Once restarted works fine. Then it at some point, with no†rhyme†or reason, it does it all over again. For the record, fresh install, no viruses, and no spyware. Also happens on both my wireless intel†adapter†and lan†adapter.

Virtual Pc 2207 Cannot Access Host Drives

On a vista box, i have a ms virtual 2007 virtual machine running xp. I just got a windows 7 box. I copied over the virtual machine files from the xp box: - . Vhd (virtual hard drive file) - . Vmc (virtual hard drive settings file) i then created a new virtual machine in windows 7 based on the virtual pc 2007 virtual machine; i enabled the integration features and checked all the drives.

Created a new virtual machine in windows 7 based on a virtual pc 2007 virtual machine (from an xp box); cannot access host (windows 7) drives from virtual machine when i then run the new virtual xp machine in windows 7, everything runs fine (and faster as well). The one issue i'm experiencing, however, is that i cannot access the host (windows 7) drives from virtual machine, even though i've shared the drives on windows 7. Btw, if i run the built-in "windows xp mode" virtual machine, i see the host drives when i run windows explorer from within that virtual machine.

What is it that i'm missing?† (Btw, it was a *ton* easier in ms virtual pc 2007; i simply "mapped" a shared drive in the settings dialog and then see that drive when i run windows explorer from within that virtual machine. ) Another thought: should i simply abandon the above, install ms virtual pc 2007 on the windows 7 box and then create the virtual machine with ms virtual pc 2007 (in lieu of the built-in windows virtual pc in windows 7)?

Can I Swap Hard Drives?

My problem is i have virtualization software and images on the older machine and i don't want to go through the process of†reinstalling on the new†pc, therefore can i just swap the hard drives. I'm aware the os license number is tied to the mac address. But i would like to know, would it be a case of just going through the authentication process again†via the internet.

Problem With Hard Drives

I have a wd 750g black hard drive set up as the primary sata drive. I have another 80gb hard drive accidentally set as the 4th sata drive rather than secondary. I installed windows 7 on the primary hard drive, at least i thought so. Seems that it only sees the 80g drive. It has installed windows 7 on the smaller drive. And in the windows explorer that is the only drive that i see. Bios has it right and in the hardware manager, it shows both hard drives. I am very confused, can anyone help me?

External Hard Drives Disappear

My external hard drives "disappear" and are not recognized by windows 7 after it's been running for 5 to 30 minutes. I installed windows 7 on november 1 to the computer which had been running vista since its purchase in july. I have two external hard drives a 250 gb seagate freeagent (it has its own power source hooked up via usb) and 1 tb hp personal media drive (slides into the personal media drive bay of my hp computer). I have had the seagate drive for two years, and it worked well with my old computer, never a problem. I have had the hp drive for two months, and it has experienced only light use.

Last week, after windows 7 had been installed for a week with no issues, when i went to save a .doc file on my seagate drive, it said that the drive could not be located. I ended up saving the file to internal disc and restarting the computer. After the restart, my computer recognized my seagate drive, and i was able to save the file. A day later, i attempted to save an image i had been editing, and the same thing happened. The problem began to occur more frequently.

Then, last night, i opened itunes and tried to create aac versions of songs from 2 new audio cds. Halfway through then ten songs on the first cd, an error message popped up indicating that the seagate drive was no longer there. After another failed attempt to import the songs, i popped in the other cd, but itunes could not copy the files to my desired directory. I changed the directory where i save files to the c: (internal) drive, and songs were successfully copied.

I restarted my computer and tried to import songs on the seagate drive once more. It finished the songs on the first disc successfully, without incident. Then i put the second disc into the cd drive. After importing one song, an error message again popped up. I clicked the computer icon on the desktop, and it indicated that the seagate drive was still there. I double-clicked the seagate drive, and instead of displaying files and folders, all it said was "this folder is empty. "†I then disconnected the seagate drive from my computer. The computer folder still displayed the seagate drive as connected to the computer.

Fearing seagate drive failure, i pulled out my old computer and hooked up the seagate drive, just to check. All files & folders on the seagate drive were present. I decided to hook up my hp personal media drive to my old computer and proceeded to copy all files on the seagate drive to the hp drive. This took about two and a half hours. I then hooked my hp drive back up to my new computer and tried saving word files, image files, and importing audio files from cd into itunes. Again, just like the seagate drive, things worked well to start, but after 5 or 10 minutes, the drive had disappeared. Every time i restart my new computer, the drive is there for anywhere from two minutes to half an hour, and every time the drive disappears.

I have tried going in to disk management and rescanning disks. I have tried going in to device manager and uninstalling both seagate and hp disks, then restarting the computer, and then hooking them up once more. I have no idea why the drive would be recognized for a short amount of time and then disappear. I have checked for loose cables. It's just bizarre because i didn't really notice any issues with either drive for the first several days after i had installed windows 7.

Losing Additional Hard Drives

I've installed windows 7 rc on my computer (easy installation btw!). I have 3 hard drives.

The issue i'm having is that when windows 7 boots up, it detects all 3 of my hard drives fine. However, after an indeterminate period of time, two of the hard drives (the ones where windows 7 is not installed to) disappear and windows 7 says they don't exist. It can't find files on them, nor do they don't show up in my computer -> manage -> storage devices.

To get them back, i restart my computer. When i restart however, windows 7 won't boot up. I have to physically power off the machine in order to get windows 7 to boot up (and again all my hard drives are visible initially).

I've tried installing the latest chipset driver for my motherboard, but this has not resolved the problem. I've tried searching for information on this problem but haven't been able to find anything. Is this a known issue? Does anyone know if there's a fix for this?

Win 7 Only Detects 3 Of 4 Hard Drives

My windows 7 has detected 3 of my 4 hard drives hooked up. I have drives c e and f, but it wont detect g. The hdd it wont detect does still have windows xp installed on it, but i'm still baffled as to why i can't browse it as just another hard drive. Windows xp does detect all the drives and browses the drive with win7 installed on it just fine, but win7 can't browse the drive with xp on it. My device manager in win7 shows that it's there and working properly in my disk drives, yet it won't display the drive in my computer. Is there a way to force windows 7 to re-detect that hard drive so it will show up in my computer?

Usb Hard Drives Are Not Recognized

My computer crashed 4 days ago and i needed to replace the mother board. During the process i was talked into upgrading from vista to windows 7. I spent the last 2 days uploading all my programs and up grading those that didn't work in windows 7.

I have a wd passport 160 gb usb hd that did not work when i plug it into the usb port. I called western digital support, thinking i needed a new driver. They told me i would need to buy a new portable drive as they were not supporting my passport. Everything works in my computerís usb ports, flash drives, and phone. The only thing that does not work is my brand new portable drive i just bought (hp 320 gb) and my old passport. Is there anyone out there who can tell me what is wrong?† Both drive work in 2 other computers both running xp. The wd drive worked well in the old vista computer.

I have called western digital and hp support. They tell me that the drives are built into windows 7. I have been surfing all night; i canít find anyone who has a fix for the problem. I ran a system scan looking for hardware drivers from the microsoft web site. I have installed window 7 upgrade advisor and ran the scan twice. I've check for compatibility on the microsoft site which says the dive is supported i only need to plug it in and it should work. The computer wonít even recognize or acknowledge the drive is plug in. I have tried different plugs it still does not work.

Usb Flash Hard Drives Not Recognized

Since purchasing my computer, i've been able to use the various usb drives for other hardware such as wireless internet, hauppage tv reception, and wireless mouse/keyboard. However, any attempt at reading an external flash drive (then larger external hard drive) on all of the ports the drive is not successful. The drive appears in the device manager and is appropriately named, it is also listed in the disk management window as disc 5 (underneath the various sd drive ports and whatnot-one of which appears to be assigned the name of usb external hard drive when in fact it is not).

Upon attempt to reassign a drive path/letter the message appears that "disk management console view not up to date", but restarting does no good. Dell support is not supportive and claim it is a software problem because the ports work for other devices.

Swap Hard Drives After Copying Win 7 To Another Hdd

Win 7 64-bit Problem With 4 Sata Hard Drives

How can i get windows 7 (64bit) to see 4 sata hard drives? It will only accept 2 drives; if 4 are plugged in, it freezes on the "loading windows" screen.

Board:intel dg31pr; ram: 4 gb corsair; drives (all western digital): 600gb velociraptor(c:); 1. 5tb (e:); 1. 5tb (f:); 500gb (g:). Pioneer dvdrw-108 is allocated as d:all intel board drivers are up to date. Drives are plugged into board sata ports 0 through 3 (c, e, f, g) respectively.

The only drive that i have not moved around is the 600gb raptor - it has always stayed on motherboard sata port 0. I've tried all other variations on the other three drives. In every case, the only way windows will successfully reboot is if 2 drives are plugged in. If three or four are plugged in, windows hangs at the "loading windows" screen. I can "force" windows to accept a third and/or fourth drive if i boot with 2 drives and when i get to the login screen plug the other(s) in then press .

Windows will then see all the drives, but on reboot i'll have the same hang at the "loading windows" screen. If all the drives are plugged in, i will see them all in the bios. If i use the above mentioned method to "force" windows to recognize the drives, they can be seen both in windows explorer and in control panel>administrative tools>computer management>disk management. How should each drive be partitioned?† Mbr or gpt? Is it possible to partition the boot drive as gpt?

My reading indicates that the boot drive cannot be partitioned as gpt; can you advise as to if that is correct or not?Partitioning the disk as a basic mbr disk allows only 4 primary partitions and unlimited logical volumes - correct?Partitioning the disk as a basic gpt disk allows up to 128 primary volumes - correct?I read somewhere that windows 7 adds a 200 mb hidden partition (hex 17f) for o/s recovery - is that correct?

If so, trying to add 4 disks (assuming a single volume on each disk) would result in 5 volumes thus exceeding the mbr limit of 4 primary partitions (assuming that the boot disk must be partitioned as mbr). So do i need to adjust the partitioning in some way or is this a windows 7 sata bug of some sort? Can windows 7 boot from a gpt partitioned boot disk?If so, what do i need to do to do this. I started to do this in acronis disk director 11, but was warned that the disk would not be bootable, so i did not proceed with it.

Fix Separate System And Boot Hard Drives

I recently purchased and installed a new hd for my system that was running windows 7. I had purchased the windows 7 digital download installer so i have no install/repair cds to work with. My goal is to replace the old hd with the new one such that the new hd serves as both the system and the boot drive and if i want to i can either remove the old hard drive entirely or wipe it and use it for back up storage.

After installing and formatting the new hd i performed a custom installation of windows 7 using my downloaded installer and selected the new drive as the drive to install windows. After the installation completed i checked the disk management and the old drive (c:) is designated as the system drive and the new drive (z:) is the boot drive. As it currently stands if i unplug the old drive (c:) the attempt to turn the system on it tries to boot from the cd (which i don't have) and windows 7 won't start.

Further it appears that both drives now have windows 7 installed and if i have both plugged in, upon startup it asks what software i would like to run "windows 7" or "windows 7, " after a 20 second countdown it starts up normally. This is more of an annoyance than a show stopper because it adds about 20 seconds every time i start the system.

Any ideas on how to fix the issue? I will try reinstalling windows 7. If that doesn't work my next thought is to burn the digital installer to a cd, unplug the old drive and when it prompts to load from cd to try the burned disk.

Swapping Hard Drives, Single Activation Key

Ok, here is the thing. I am using windows 7 professional 64-bit on my laptop. Now i need a bigger hard drive (which i already ordered). The product key for my windows i got from my university. Now it is a single activation key. It is extremely retarded but yes, you use the key once, its gone. Now i going to attempt ghosting the hdd via clonezilla and swapping the hard drive.

My second option is using the windows backup and restore function (i already have a dvd using the iso image which university provides). Now, i just want to know if windows backup and restore function requires a reactivation of windows or re-entering of the product key. Also, what about clonezilla?† Does ghosting, in general, require reactivation?

Cd/dvd Player Or External Hard Drives Don't Stop Running

My camera displays images upside down after upgrading to windows 7 64bit and cd/dvd player or external hard drives don't stop running after quitting attempted access. I have an asus g50vt-x1 laptop that is a 64-bit machine. It had windows vista home premium 64bit installed on it and the camera worked properly with it.

I ran the windows 7 update advisory on it and it said i could upgrade to windows 7 64bit. After upgrading to windows 7 professional 64 bit the camera images are all upside down. I have contacted asus about the problem and they have sent me updated drivers, but the images are still upside down.could windows 7 be causing this problem as i know it worked fine in vista?

I have also noticed that my dvd/cd drive and external hard drives don't stop running after i exit an application. When this happens i can't eject the dvd/cd or safely remove the drive from the computer.

Cannot Access Hard Drive

I installed windows 7 dual-boot with vista ult 64-bit. Not a problem, . Both versions boot and run. However i have†had installed 6 sata drives. Vista recognizes and access's all 6 in explorer and device manager. Windows 7 however recognizes all 6 in device manager but will only display 5 in the computer drive explorer view. There is no method to access the (actually 5th sata) drive. It cannot be accessed by any program i've tried so far. (Xp also recognized and accessed all 6 drives when i used it. )

I have a asus rampage formula motherboard, 4 wd 320 hd drives, 1 corsair sshd 6th in sata chain (windows 7 installed on it)
750 wd hd the 5th sata which is not accessible.

8 meg corsair ram 1000 watt ps asus 4850 video card. Running in non raid mode for the moment. I am not impressed with 7 especially since being screwed by the lack of the ult upgrade option

Lack Of Ability For Win 7 "backup" To Access Network Drives

Lack of ability for windows 7 home premium "backup" to access network drives. I am very disappointed to find out that windows 7 home premium doesn't support backing up files to network locations. To make things worse it also will not allow you to make a backup to the same drive being backed up which precludes the option of making the backup and then doing a xfer of the data to the network drive. I think this is nuts, that now i find out i need to buy windows 7 professional to get this capability.

First is this all true, and secondly, if this is true, can a person buy an upgrade from windows 7 home premium to windows 7 professional or do you have to buy the full price of a windows 7 professional upgrade. Disappointed to say the least.

I accidentally locked myself out of my send hard drive, my (l:) drive. I right clicked the drive, opened properties, and opened the security tab. I have even enabled the built in administrator log in using the cmd.exe. Now when i try to open the l: drive an "access is denied. " Error appears. When i open the properties for the l: drive the security tab is no longer present. However, it is still present on all other drives'/folders' properties.
