Sidewinder X3 Freezes Up Randomly

My sidewinder x3 is freezing up for several minutes at a time. It doesn't seem to affect any other processes. My cursor just stops moving and the on-the-fly sensitivity changer won't work either. After a while the mouse starts working again by itself. Re-plugging the mouse has no effect. I have another optical usb mouse that works flawlessly in the same ports as the sidewinder. The mouse is brand new and it has been doing this ever since i purchased it. Im running windows 7 64-bit. Has anyone else encountered the same problem? What solved it?

Microsoft Sidewinder Mouse Freezes

I am using a microsoft sidewinder mouse and have encountered a strange problem. Occasionally the mouse will stop working and the usb device unplugged sound will play. This happens most frequently when gaming, but also it occurs during general use. Normally the mouse freezes for about 2-5 seconds, and up to, but never longer than, 10 seconds. The sidewinder has decorative lights, and these stay on most of the time, but during some of the longer freezes they will turn off.

The buttons do not work when the mouse is frozen. The strange thing is that the usb unplugged device sound plays, leading me to think this may be a defective mouse, however i cannot replicate the problem by pushing/pulling/wiggling the mouse's cable. Normally hardware problems can be replicated. The mouse worked fine for the preceding 9-10 months. Drivers are the latest version (7) and i have reinstalled them several times. Usb connectors are spotless. Other mice work flawlessly, but i do not have a second pc to test if the mouse works on a different machine.

Computer Randomly Freezes In Any Program

Need to reboot after every freeze up. Just installed win7 on new pc. After running sfc/scannow it found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Cbs log read: . Mcbuilder.exe do not match actual file [l:26{13}]"mcbuilder.exe".could not reproject corrupted file }]"mcbuilder.exe" . Source file in store is also corrupted. Chkdsk came up with no problems. Win7 running fine on my other older computer (also 32bit). If anyone would give me some suggestions that would be great.

Win 7 Hangs Up / Freezes Randomly

I just bought a dell studio 1749 with windows 7 64 bit. Randomly a program will lock up. After about 30 seconds or so the program will say it is not responding. If i right click on the program the whole program will turn a transparent white. This happens with many programs including ie, firefox, and windows explorer. I contacted dell and they did some simple maintenance but that didn't fix anything. I re-installed windows 2 times but it still didn't fix the problem. After all of this dell sent a technician to swap out hard drives. That still didn't fix the problem. It seems that if i have the battery plan on performance it helps but doesn't solve the problem.

Pc Freezes Randomly When Going Into Hibernation Mode

Occasionally when shutting the computer down in hibernation mode, the screen will go black, but the lights on the computer will remain on. This lasts until i force the computer to shutdown by holding the power button, no matter how long i wait. It does not happen all the time, but enough to be annoying. I have a toshiba satellite laptop that came with windows vista that i upgraded to windows 7 home premium 64 bit. Gain, it does not happen all the time, so i do not know if there is a specific trigger, but i would like to know if there is something that can fix it.

Dell Studio 1745 Freezes Randomly

My new dell studio 1745 running windows 7 (64 bit) home premium / intel core 2 duo cpu t6600 @ 2. 20ghz / 4gb ram / freezes (for about one minute - once per day) randomly. I'm usually running the following applications daily: ie8, ms office 07, including outlook, excel, and word; itunes, and adobe reader. As i mentioned above, the machine randomly freezes (for about one minute) once a day. Sometimes the mouse cursor disappears during the freeze. Other times it turns into the "i'm working. Please wait" spinning wheel, during the freeze period.

Remote Desktop Connection Randomly Freezes

My new dell xps 8100 with win 7 64-bit: rdp randomly freezes when connected to my work pc which has win 7 32-bit. I had win 7 32-bit on my old pc and never had a problem. Now the new pc randomly freezes during the rdp session. I say random because it will freeze during every session but it may be a few seconds or a few minutes before it freezes. If i wait for approx 3 minutes, it will unfreeze for a random length of time before freezing again. Any suggestions?

Wmp Video Playback Freezes Randomly

Setup: windows 7 ultimate x64 clean install, asus m5w dh deluxe mobo, intel dual core 6420 2. 13ghz, 4mb ram, 2 seagate barracuda hard disks 0. 5 & 1. 5tb, nvidia geforce 8800 gtx 768mb (latest x64 driver 195. 62).

When i play videos (mostly dvds or legal ripped dvds), playback will sometime freeze my whole system for 3 to 4 minutes (always the same duration). Sometimes i can play a whole movie without any freeze, at other times it can freeze as early as 10 or 20 minutes into the movie, or as late as 1h30m after the start.

I use mostly built-in wmp12 for playback, but i noticed the same behavior with vlc or kmp players. It also happened once with the miro player, and it also happens when playing wmas on wmp. I disabled all other applications or unnecessary services at some stage, to no avail. This machine has a dual boot with vista ultimate x32 on the smaller disk, but the same playbacks work just fine.

There is absolutely no error in any event log, and i really wonder why this should happen only to windows 7 (x64?). How can i debug this, and how can i fix it? I am starting a new topic for this, as other similar topics do not seem relevant to these symptoms. The weird thing is that the system always resumes after that 3-4 minutes freeze. The only thing is that the wmp playback seems to need to catch up with that delay, video and sound are kind of accelerated and not in sync for a while.

The system is partially responsive during the freeze too: i can see the play button bar when i hover with the mouse over the wmp window, the clock still counts the minutes in the taskbar, at least until i try to click on them: then the donut mouse icon replaces the arrow, and the clock does not change time anymore.

Microsoft Sidewinder Mouse Macros

I have a sidewinder mouse, and sometimes, mid-game, a macro will be recorded, and somehow assigned to my right mouse button. As far as i can tell i'm not hitting the macro record button once (let alone twice, so it stops recording), and i'm definitely not going into the mouse properties and assigning that macro to the right button. Can someone tell me how this is happening, since it's getting really annoying, and sometimes very frustrating to fix? I believe it's the sidewinder x6, it's wired, with the adjustable weights and led.

Sidewinder X8 Won't Work

Okay, so i just received the sidewinder x8 in the post, i was so happy it had arrived! Well. That was short lived. I have installed all the drivers and it does not work. All the lights come on and when i plug the charger in it shows that it is currently charging, but nothing happens, i move the mouse. Nothing, press the buttons. Nothing.

I am using it on my desktop currently operating on windows 7. I have tried every usb port, uninstalling and reinstalling the correct software but it never works. It shows that the drivers are installed and it recognizes that the x8 is there, but i just can't fathom why it won't work. I plugged it into my laptop which runs on vista and it worked the second i plugged in the wireless receiver. Can anyone help me with this issue?

Sidewinder X3 Mouse Wheel Button Problem

I had my sidewinder x3 mouse for a few months now and it was working perfectly until yesterday the mouse wheel started to act up, heres what it does: the button it self still clicks perfectly but for the mouse to actually read i pressed it i need to apply more pressure. It specially does this after i scrolled down but not as much after i scrolled up. I already brought back 2 other x3's at the store, one had the same problem and the other one jammed at a certain point when scrolling. Now the store wont take it back since my warranty is over. I use this mouse for first person shooters like call of duty modern warfare 2 so its very impotent for me that my hardware performs flawlessly. Is there anything i can do to fix this?

Sidewinder Dual Strike Gaming Controller Compatibility

Can anybody please tell me if there is any progress made with regard to windows 7 compatibility of the dual strike and its associated sidewinder software. I had it working fine in windowsxp - even with sp3 installed ! I have seen  the previous answer to this question which frankly - is sadly incorrect. Although the dual strike - (being a usb device) - does install automatically (sort of ) in windows 7 - it is not recognized when games are opened. I can not assign any of the buttons to actions from within the game set up menu (dark void game as a good example) that is to say - it doesn't work.

Furthermore - sure i can install the sidewinder software in compatibility mode - but thats where it ends. When i try to open sidewinder central to assign keystrokes to buttons - i get a message saying " there was a problem that may be due to low system resources - try closing other programs and try again. " Then when i try and close sidewinder - i get another message saying " windows host process (rundll32 ) has stopped working.

Now obviously a programmable games controller that -  a. Games do not recognize and b. You cannot programme the keys - is sort of redundant isn't it. I'm afraid changing the compatibly settings either manually or using the troubleshooter has absolutely no effect. Does anybody have a solution?

Randomly Rebooting

I recently upgraded my computer hardware, and replaced winxp with win7 home premium oem 64-bit. Since this upgrade, my windows reboots at random intervals. Sometimes the screen shows random pixels before the reboot but not always. Sometimes it shows the blue screen of death (saying "attempt was made to write on a read-only memory").

Windows' own memory-test says everything is fine. I had memtest86+ run for 8 hours straight: no problem, no reboot. So i think this is not a hardware issue, since the computer keeps running for long periods of time if windows is not started.

Windows has been reinstalled already, all drivers have been updated, windows has been updated, norton internet security has been uninstalled. The problem still remains. I've run out of ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Here's the complete hardware profile:

Processor: intel core i3-530 2. 93ghz
Memory: corsair twinx ddr3 1333mhz dhx cl9 kit
Videocard: integrated
Directx-version: directx 10
Motherboard: asus p7h55d-m evo
Harddrive: samsung 1000gb f3 7200rpm 32mb sata2 hd103sj
Power: corsair 450w

Pc Restarts Randomly

Okay so i have a relatively new velocity micro gaming computer that is about 3 weeks old and i have recently been experiencing one big problem. My computer just randomly restarts for no apparent reason (usually when i leave it alone for like half an hour to watch tv or something) and when it starts back up it gives an error message like windows did not shut down properly and it gives me the option to enter safe mode. I am currently running the paid version of norton internet security and i have already scanned my computer for viruses (full scan not quick scan).

In addition i have updated windows with all the recommended settings and updated my nvidia gt 220 video card driver from their website. I have performed all sorts of scans but i don't see any real problem that could be causing it. I am pretty sure it is not power-related because i'm using a good outlet with a surge panel. I also went into my system settings and unchecked the thing that says restart on system failure, but the problem still persists.

Getting Bsod Randomly While Using Various Programs

So i upgraded my laptop computer (toshiba satellite) from windows vista 64 to window 7 64, and at first there were no problems. However, as i work, occasionally a bsod will come up. After the computer restarts itself, it shows up with the "find solution to problem" window:

Problem signature:
Problem event name: bluescreen
Os version: 6. 1. 7600. 2. 0. 0. 256. 1
Locale id: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
Bccode: 4e
Bcp1: 0000000000000007
Bcp2: 000000000013ce1d
Bcp3: 0000000000000001
Bcp4: 0000000000000000
Os version: 6_1_7600
Service pack: 0_0
Product: 256_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:windowsminidump111809-28969-01.dmp
C:usersrogerappdatalocaltempwer-94146-0.sysdata.xml

Also, on the blue screen, at the top it says pfn_list_corrupt, then it proceeds to "file dump"? I have tried updating my drivers with windows 7 ones; i've tried cleaning the registry (with regdefense). However, neither of these have done anything to fix my problem. This is very much a problem, because my computer can restart itself without warning. Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

Win 7 Crashes Randomly

Recently my win 7x64 pro started crashing randomly (and now it crashes extremely often, but still at random) like if you pulled the plug. No bsod, no reboot, no crash-dump, nothing. The system only tells me that it didn't shut down properly.

The pc is a asus aspire m7711 (core2quad q8300, 8gb ram, geforce gt130), nothing clocked, no modifications. I've updated win, updated all drivers (except the ms-teredo-tunneling software, for the win update can't find any driver), turned off several stuff in the hardware manager, that could cause the problem and finally reinstalled win 7 it still crashes, sometimes just a few min after i turned it on but in safe mode the pc is stable. It only crashed once, that was some time ago and in user mode it crashed about 80 times in a week.

And the pc still has warranty, so i won't void it by opening the case. I see this as the last option, because i want to know what causes the problem.

Laptop Randomly Hibernates

i'm new to this site and have been experiencing my laptop hibernating randomly the past few days while i am using it. I could be working on anything in my computer, like browsing the web, checking email, etc. , And bam! Hibernates. I know it's not a virus because i have mcafee and windows defender both active and they scan my laptop bi-weekly.

I've asked a few friends at school, and they've given a few possible suggestions; the memory that is being used, or the time i'm using it, (after startup), but i've came to the assumption that it could be both. By both, i mean that once the processor passes a certain memory usage, and a certain time after then, is where the problem could jump from. Since i've thought of that solution, i've tried using less programs together, (e.g. Only the browser or only windows live mail), and as i've been using this solution, it has rarely hibernated w/o notice.

Computer Locks Up Randomly

Recently my computer has been locking up randomly. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it - sometimes it locks up while doing something intensive (like running a graphics-rich game), and other times it locks up when simply sitting idle or typing up a word document. I've tried everything i can to see what the problem is, and i've come up with nothing. I've stress/stability tested my cpu, my gpu, my ram, and my power supply.

I've removed my ide hard disk drive, because the event logger said it was having problems with it. I've tried different power supplies, gpus, and even a different (though same model) motherboard. Nothing turns up any problems - they all test out just fine. The error the event logger shows me is one of two thing.

Either this:-

Color Scheme Randomly Changes

Windows 7 color scheme randomly changes, while working or while idle. Pretty much anytime its just random. I know some programs will force it to change to windows basic. But thats not what i am talking about. It does that same exact thing randomly without asking or popping up a message. Sometimes it will make the screen flicker. Most of the time it goes right back to the aero theme shortly after. I have all the latest hardware and updated drivers. I built this system.

I am running windows 7 ultimate retail. I have an evga x58 sli le motherboard. 6gb of ram, an intel i7 930 processor. Ati radeon 5850 graphics card, 800w ps. My cpu temp never goes above 40c and that has nothing to do with the randomness of this occurrence. I am thinking it may have something to do with background programs, like maybe downloading and/or installing automatic updates and/or program guides for media center. Or maybe i was thinking it could be some kind of malicious software. I do have avast antivirus and i am using windows firewall and all protections that i can.

Computer Randomly Shuts Down

I checked the "similar questions" options and didn't none of the solutions seemed to apply to me, so here goes!:So i've had this computer for a while now (i would say about two years). It's a home-built made by a computer-savvy friend of mine and it's been fantastic. It still has high marks in everything but my hard drive. I'm some-what of a gamer, and it's been running games incredibly well. So i decided to move to taiwan to teach english. I really didn't want to miss out on pc gaming for a year(+), so i brought this sucker with me.

I get to my apartment - no 3-prong outlets!  Get a cheap 2-to-3 prong adapter, buy a fancy new screen, and voila, computer seems to be working!  It made the flight with me! (Yes, i had to check it, i had the airline people put tons of "fragile" stickers on it, but that was probably mistake number one, even though i had the original box, and even though i still tried to keep it from getting damaged by putting in other clothes to hopefully brace the shocks. Nyway, so i'm listening to some itunes, for about an hour and then suddenly. Shut down. Oh well, i'll just turn it on.

Itunes. Shut down. I plug in my first-video-gen ipod to update new songs and what not? Shut down. I also brought my laptop here with me so after several more instances of random shut down, i focus on my laptop, and say goodbye until i can bring it to a repair shop or something in the states or have someone with computer knowledge take a look at it. My laptop dies (it was old and had some liquid damage that i guess finally killed it). So now i have to use my desktop. Hey, it's been working ok, even updating my ipod with no problems!

Oh wait, unless i'm playing music at the same time as updating it. So i just don't do that anymore! My computer-savvy friend recommends that i get a diagnostic program to see why i'm having problems. I get this thing called sisoftware sandra lite 2010 from cnet after reading their enthusiastic review. I start up the program and it starts checking. Something. I can't remember, had to do with running calculations and the computer shuts off.

Almost immediately after the test starts. I download and install starcraft 2. Successfully!  "Wow it stayed on long enough to complete it without shutting down! Maybe it's better!"Try to play starcraft 2 - shuts down. Damn! What is wrong with my computer! I see that the little icon at the bottom right has a red x circle on it. I click on it for the first time. "Troubleshoot a problem with your computer. "Oh, might that fix the problem?"Your computer might be encountering a memory problem. " Hmm, hopefully because that's easy to fix, right? Just buy new memory! So i let the windows memory diagnostic test do it's thing.

It restarts the computer and "oo, that's a new thing" the test starts. 1%. 2%. Shut down! So. Is it my memory? If it was my memory wouldn't the test finish? Is it my cpu?  There is a big fan covering the cpu and it moved slightly after the flight.could that have affected the processor? Is it the fact that it's not technically grounded even though it's plugged into a seemingly ok power strip? Is it something else? The motherboard? The fact that it's 110v here and not the us standard 120v?I've also noticed that i can browse the internet ok, but if i try to full-screen a video, it shuts down!

But if i don't full screen the video, there are no problems. It's also really hot and humid here, and i don't have air conditioning yet. Is it overheating? This case is a coolermaster cosmos, it's supposed to be pretty good at keeping everything cool what is going on!?

Win 7 Hangs Randomly

Finally got a clean custom install of win 7 ultimate to a formatted partition h: on drive 0. Dual boot with working windows vista on the c: drive. Windows 7 boots and occasionally works for a period of time, accesses the internet fine, allows me to install a program, sometimes read email, but randomly freezes with a strange screen display, vertical lines over the existing display.

Eventually the screen becomes completely blurred with odd patterns and remains that way until i reboot. There is no single program that fails consistently. Word processor, and ie fail at different times. Noticed several times it occurred when entering data like password etc. , But at times it fails with a mouse cursor movement. When i boot to windows vista, thankfully it works flawlessly without failures so i can actually accomplish my work. Hoping for some help with this the win7 freeze problem.

Second Hard Drive Randomly Disconnects

I'm running windows 7 ultimate 64-bit, and i have two 500gb sata hard drives connected to my motherboard, both connected via sata cables. I have installed windows 7 on a clean 500gb hard drive (aka my c: drive), and my second drive holds files for games and such. The problem i have is that i'll be on my computer minding my own business, then all of a sudden my second hard drive (aka my d: drive) just disappears and will not show in the hard drive list in windows explorer.

Also, i have all of my music on my d: drive and i'll be in the middle of listening to it and all of a sudden the current song will freeze and i go to check and - yes - i see that the d: drive has been "lost". Weird part is that rebooting the computer solves the issue. However, this random loss of access to my d: drive is usually accompanied by my entire computer freezing, causing me to have to reboot anyway. No matter what, though, my c: drive always seems to remain accessible.

I've tried quite a few things to fix this problem, including replacing the old sata cable that connected my d: drive to my motherboard with a new sata cable - all to no avail, the problem still persists. I'll be right in the middle of a game that i have installed on my d: drive and then *thwack* - the game crashes and the d: drive has been "lost" again.

This problem never occurred until about a month after i installed windows 7 on my computer. The problem just started occurring recently. Because of this, i am reluctant to consider this the fault of windows 7 because this problem was non-existent in the first month of me using windows 7. My d: drive is about 2 years old, but i bought it right from the manufacturer. It is partitioned into two partitions, however: a partition for my game, music, and website files; and a partition where i keep my old installation of windows vista as a "just in case" measure.

I doubt that my d: drive is the problem because, like i said, it is quite new. I've replaced the sata cable connecting it and that has not fixed the problem, so the sata cable isn't it either.could running two partitions for about a year and a half (and one of them being the main os) have caused that much wear-and-tear to my d: drive? I thought satas were quite durable.

Like i said, i'm not 100% sure that this is a problem with windows 7. However, i am starting to think that is the case. If anyone has any tips or advice from past experiences, please let me know. It may be hardware-related, or os-related - i just don't know.

Randomly Lose Mapped Drives

We have windows server 2003 r2 with shared drives. We have windows xp pro and windows vista ultimate workstations and have no problems with any of these machines.

Drives are mapped using a kixstart logon script

We have just installed 11 new dell optiplex 760 workstations with windows 7 professional pre-installed.

Randomly on several of these machines, users are reporting that they lose connection to shared drives. A red x is showing on all shared drives and double clicking on these does not work. The pc's are not idle at time of disconnect.

Trying browse to drives using servernameshare does not work.

When the drives disconnect users can still access internet and exchange server for email which is also on the file server.

Logging off and logging on again is also unsuccessful.

The only way to get access to the shared drives is to  restart the pc.

Sound Randomly Stops Until Reboot

I have win7 64 bit on an hp, i will be playing music in either itunes, youtube or some other program, and when i go to switch the music source the audio stops. Itunes will be playing but the time will not move, youtube will show the video with no sound and nothing else will produce sound either. I also have the same issue at times when coming up from hibernating or sleeping. With both instances it happens randomly. It is always fixed by restarting. I had the same problem with xp on a different machine as well, and could never figure it out.

Usb Mouse Randomly Freezing

My microsoft wireless natural ergonomic keyboard and mouse 7000 freeze randomly. Os: windows 7 64-bitdrivers: latest intellipoint intellitypelatest intel chipset drivers for p6x58d premium mobo, and all usb drivers installed. All drivers are up to date. Several other posters here are having the same problem. Their solutions have ranged from:1) disabling usb power management (tried unsuccessful)2) update drivers (done) update windows (done)3) use non usb mouse (not an option)4) dpc latency (checked, no problems)5) uninstall usb root hub drivers, reboot to reinstall (doesn't work) the only think i have left to suspect is that i had to plug in the mouse/keyboard before installing intellipoint/intellitype for the first time.

Since i built the system from scratch, and have no other key/mouse, i needed something to click/press to do the installation of windows, and intellipoint/intellitype. Yes, the instructions on the microsoft set say to install software first. Is this likely the source of the problem? Should i hunt down a ps/2 mouse, reinstall all usb/mouse drivers? Any other suggestions?
