Unable To Download Any Files

So last night i left my computer on and when i woke up it seemed as if it had restarted since it was back at the login screen. After signing in i found that i was/am unable to download anything from the internet. I have tried both firefox and ie8. I have run an updated anti-virus and spyware scan. Anything i download is apparently nonexistent. The odd thing is that i am to surf the web just fine. Any help would be huge.

P. S. I trolled the forums and have tried resetting ie8 back to defaults, deleting temp files etc.

Program Files Download Permission

I have a new windows 7 laptop (64 bit), and struggling at times to learn how to use it. I'm in the habit on my windows xp desktop, of downloading setup/installer files into program files, where i set things up as follows:

Program files
-Adobe
-Games
-Tetris
-Tetris program
-Tetris installer
-Inkscape
-Inkscape program
-Inkscape installer
-Inkscape tutorial #1

Sorry, i can't figure out how to make a single-space. Hopefully you can see that i put my setup/installer file in its own folder, alongside the program folder, both within what i guess you could call an "umbrella folder". For example you can see that i might also put a tutorial or some other related item - i'm very organized. So when i download, i would put the setup/installer or zip file into 'inkscape installer' or 'tetris installer'.

Then when i install or unzip, i do so into 'inkscape program' or 'tetris program'. That's how i do it on my xp desktop computer, and have been for years. But here in windows 7, when i try to download into program files, i get an error message: "you don't have permission to save in this location.contact the administrator to obtain permission. " I am the adiminstrator, my user account is the only one on this computer, and it's the adminstrator account!

After spending hours (5 or 6) with dell tech support, finally i am told that in windows 7, manual download directly into program files is not allowed. Files can only be installed directly or moved in after downloading elsewhere. I was ready to accept that and create a new sort of workflow for myself, perhaps keeping my installer files all in one folder, outside of program files. But then, while searching these forums, i came across this thread: http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7files/thread/d2bb7c3c-bf0b-4ea6-8463-42461a56c105

It offers instructions for changing permissions. And i think i can probably follow those instructions without further help. But just before i did, i thought i should ask whether that applies to my particular problem, that i detailed above, including error message. Have i been misinformed by dell (it wouldn't be the 1st time). By following those instructions, will i be able to download in my usual manner? Or at the very least, can i try it relatively safely, without major complications?

I suspect that even if it doesn't solve my problem, it may reduce all the other permission related message boxes that keep popping up - moving files around, etc. I hope so anyway.

Unable To Download Audio Mp3 Files

I got a new hp pavillion entertainment pc with windows 7 for christmas. It has crashed twice, wiping out the hard drive each time, requiring reinstallation of the recovery discs. Before the first crash, i could download mp3 files without a problem. Since then, i am unable to download any audio mp3 files, but can download text files. Also, email windows live program runs intermittently, but more often than not, it says it is not available and to try later since the crash.

I also lost my free trial of office suite in the first crash, it did not restore in the recovery. Now my hard drive shows "recovery drive" is nearly full. What do i do? I have tried saving the mp3 files to c drive as well as dvd drive. After about 50 tries, i was able to download one file, none since.

I have also search my pc to see if it downloaded the file without asking where to download, but to no avail. This issues seems to be an issue for many on yahoo since the new yahoo mail and ie from what i have been able to read and search from other forums, but have yet to find a solution, any help would be greatly appreciated. Cannot Download Apps - Files Appears To Complete But Are Not Present

I have recently moved to a 64-bit win7 machine - with all of the fun of shifting my software that entails. Somewhere during the process ie8 stopped allowing me to download files - i get the screen for saving the file, there appears to be a download but there is nothing there. I have tried resetting to defaults twice. I have tried creating shortcuts from the 32 and 64 bits versions of ie8 on the machine. I've done the right click 'run as administrator' i'm running bitdefender 2010 (win7 compatible) and no other antivirus/firewall. Any suggestions welcomed

Download Programs To Default Folder "program Files" 32-bit Or 64-bit

I have been confused if programs automatically download to the optimum "program files" for 32-bit or 64-bit or do i have to select which if the two program files i want it in? It seems everything has been going into the x86 file. I don't want to just move them all over to the 64-bit file if they really belong in the x86 file, but i am sure my new photoshop programs belong in the program files file yet they seen to have downloaded into the program files (x86) instead. Also, how am i to know which programs are better suited for either folder?

Update: i tried copying the photoshop file and moving it to the 64-bit folder but it won't let me do so, saying a file is in use somewhere. I do not have any files from this open; i even restarted the computer to completely close anything that might be open and i get the same message. Is this maybe because it does not belong in the program files folder for 64-bit programs? Any other hints on how i can move this program, along with adobe premiere elements (for making videos) that gives me the same message? I have been told these programs would work better running as 64-bit programs so that is why i want to move them.

Files Send To Dvd-rw Drive On Network Results In Deleted Files

"send to dvd-rw drive" when the source files are on a network drive results in deleted files! Windows 7 rc 7100. Have a mapped drive to another computer. I opened the folder, right clicked on a group of .doc files. I choose "send to dvd-rw drive". Responded to the prompt of "use like usb drive" or use in a cd/dvd player by choosing the 2nd choice. Then was faced with a prompt that filename.doc is no longer in this location cancel/retry/skip. All the files were gone! Not in recycle bin of either computer.

Cannot Download Anything

I have windows vista office ultimate and am using ie8 as my browser. I can't download anything. Anytime i try to open/run/save a file it just disappears. When downloading it will go 99% and then just go away. I don't know when the problem started exactly. I take online classes that require me to get files through internet explorer to do my coursework. I've tried everything i knew how to do (short of just completely reinstalling my operating system). I'm not the greatest with computers so please try to use "layman" terms.

Re Download Drivers

When i download a driver and try to expand/install it and it says down load error - down load again, which i download again but because the driver was downloaded before it does not actually download again, but shows in a split second that the driver has downloaded as (1). When i click the new downloaded driver it shows the same download error message. This is because the download begins from where the download stopped and not from the starting again, showing the same file from the hard disk.
Please tell me how to delete the cache file and re-download a fresh driver.

Download Error

I've downloaded (bought) windows 7 home premium yesterday, and the download (with microsoft download manager) went fine, but when i tried to open the file called windows 7 home premium (it's a 3-part download (setup1, setup2 and "windows 7. ")) A loadingbar comes up on the screen, but it only complete a litle bit (think it needs to unpack, so the thing thats supposed to happen is that you click on the windows 7. File, and then it'll unpack automatically, and spread files all over the folder, witch i btw placed on the c-drive) and then it says, that there's an error with the file, and that it may be damaged.

And if i try to open on of the setup-files, it tells me to choose a program to open it with, and i've tried word, adobe, internet and thinks like that, but nothing works. So that don't work either. ?

I've tried to download the files 3 times now, and i've also tried to download the 64-bit windows 7 - but same problem.

It's a litle - well, very complicated, but please help me, if you know what to do, or have a idea (any ideas will work!)  - I've payed 100£ for something, so it would be nice, if it would work.

Cannot Download As Administrator

We received two brand new hp6241f pcs running windows 7 from future shop here in canada. I got home tonight from work and found my dad still sitting in front of the first, trying to get it set up. At that point he was trying to activate the 60-day ms office trial but every time he clicked the link to get a key he'd get a message saying he wasn't connected to the internet. I confirmed that he was; we can totally surf.

I found another way of getting the key but kept getting redirected to a bing page that said "we are unable to find [url]. "

I tried a few times, figured it was a bad link and decided to move on. I went to download windows live mail.

Same stupid thing. The download page would load, the download would be about to begin and the redirect would happen again.

I've tried downloading firefox and ccleaner - same problem.

I've browsed forum after forum and answer after answer. There's only one user and she's identified as administrator.

I played with security settings up the yin/yang. I do hi-speed internet technical support for a living so i can easily disable common stuff. I followed some instructions to make changes of the user controls but full control is already enabled.

I'm at my wits end and hating win7. There are too damn many security options, if you ask me. Too many to find, apparently, because nothing i've done is working.

Opk Download

For the past several days, i have been trying to download the win 7 opk (oem pre-installation kit) with no luck. Have downloaded all the relevant docs & videos then started the opk download. It did request that i use the bits ie plug-in, which was done, but i find that it doesn't seem to work with win 7. The 1st download ended after only 17% stating that it was not downloaded due to the connection to the server being reset.

Tried again late last night hoping that it would be completed by the time i get back to it today, but found it failed again after 60% with the same failure. Any idea as to how i can get a complete download of the opk?

No Toolbars / Cannot Download Anything

I have windows xp professional with service pack 2, and internet explorer 7. Automatic updates were turned on & i selected to upgrade to internet explorer 8. After the upgrade, everything on the internet was huge & blurry, so i did a system restore to a point before i had installed ie8. Now i have no toolbars on ie7.

No windows explorer toolbars & no internet explorer toolbars, i can't download anything, i can't print from the internet, i can not cut and paste from the internet to any other application. I disabled all firewalls. I ran spyware search & destroy scans. I deleted the registry values for itbarlayout. I right clicked & left clicked on every inch of my screen to see if i could get an option to view toolbar.

Programs Files Vs Program Files (x86)

What is the difference between the "program files" folder & the "program files (x86)" folder, in c drive? Various programs seem split almost equally between the 2, after i upgraded from vista to 7, except that internet explorer is in both, meaning that when i "open with" for a text file i get ie listed twice. Can i move everything to one or other of these & delete the other one? Is one for 64-bit and one for 32-bit programs or something like that?

A2c Files Downloaded As Zip Files

If you go to alice.org and try to download one of their image files, ie8 changes the extension from a2c to zip making the file unusable unless the user manually changes the file extension.

http://alice.org/index.php?Page=gallery/amusement park/index

In our school network users are not allowed to change the file extension so that does not work. I found that the user when downloading has to change the file type to all files and change the file extension then. This is a bother to have to remember. When i tried with a different browser (chrome) the a2c file was recognized correctly. The computers in my school are laptops running windows xp. At home my desktop runs windows 7 and the problem is there as well. There was no problem with ie7.

Docx Files Downloading As Zip Files

I am having an issue with docx files turning into zip files when i try and download them in ie8. I have done alot of research on this problem and have looked into the 2 main solutions to this problem: 1) set security settings to "open file based on file content, not file extension" to disable  2) check the mime type table on the web server and make sure the office 2007 extensions are added.

The first step i tried and the file was still trying to open as a zip file. The second one i was only able to ask the vendor because the web server does not belong to me, but the vendor said they were able to get the same exact docx file to download as a docx file and everyone on their end was able to. I am able to save the zip file and rename the file extension to docx and open it, but sadly this will not be an acceptable answer.

I've tried adding registry settings to allow it to open with docx files as well with no success.
I am curious if anyone has any other suggestions for me?

Error - You Need To Download Flash

Windows 7 on a 64 bit system thus all ie games just error message " you need to download flash. Just click here. " Abode does not have a flash for 64 bit sys _susann_love my new 4g win 7 hp laptop. The games impacted, on my system and it seems to be related to the 64-bit sys i bought, are on gsn.com & comcast.net games:

1. I ran the troubleshooting option, as these games worked on my xp system, with both service packs 2 and 3, which were downloaded immediately.
2. Java uploaded a patch immediately as well.

All seemed well with the world until this morning when i launched a trivia game on comcast and got that same error message. The troubleshooter did not recognize the program, tried to fo its thing and ran a check and said try the online support group. Basically i think comcast games may have some funky code - that it my interpretation, not microsoft.

Fyi - pogo.com games were always 100% ok.

Ie And Bing - Can't Download

I am unable to download most files when i try to access by ie (vista home premium, ie7). Downloading works fine in aol, google chrome and opera. The latest 2 are ad-aware update via cnet and my audible books from audible.com, although it has happened every time i try to download since bing infested my computer. It doesn't matter whether i press a "download" button or am auto directed, it goes to bing and thinks it's a search (see below messages). I contacted the bing help and they said this is an ie problem.

Download Win 7 Isos

Bought the ultimate disk from newegg as a preorder and wrote it off as a business expense. Almost 4 months down the line, i found the disk was scratched when i cleaned out my disk storage drawer. Was going to upgrade my hard drives today, but don't want to risk an operational system if the disk can't be read during installation. Is there a way to download the disk w/o relying on torrents or pirate sites. I already looked at microsoft.com, but it looks like i'll have to purchase a full disk from them and newegg doesn't do windows downloads from what i've seen either.

Ie8 Will Not Download From Adobe

I have always been able to use flash, etc from adobe (marcomedia). But now, even clicking on to some of the links provided in these forums to downland, i keep getting error: ie cannot download (ex: adberdr930_en_us.exe) and other sites. Says: ie not able to open internet site. This happens on all adobe product downloads. This happened and have been fighting this for a month. Since going to web site and it said i needed to upgrade. Note: i installed firefox and then all flash, etc. Working fine. But would prefer to use ie 8 on my windows xp.

I have worked for two weeks with adobe forum experts with no success. And yes, followed all the directions to try and resolve. Please don't tell me to un-install and then install; have done that dozens of times. I have 32 bit system. I am the administrator. All security settings were not changed before or after and are correct. I have tried the compatibility view step.

Extremely Slow Download

I have been trying to download and install the windows 7 upgrade since dec. 30 afternoon. It is installing at speed of only 1. 1k/sec  this is not normal for me. I think over the weekend something corrupted some of my programs, i had to re-install some of them.could whatever it was cause the download speed to do this?  Should i wait for the dvd to arrive which i ordered along with the upgrade to arrive and then just install from it?  And should i do a clean install to find and correct this corruption? I scanned, cleaned, error-checked, etc. And nothing shows up. I have hughesnet satellite connection of 100 mbps. Any and all advice much appreciated!

Ie Download Manager Feature

This might be more of a suggestion for a future feature in microsoft internet explorer, but is there any sort of download manager available in the ie8 browser? Something along the lines of getright, such that it resumes downloads if they time out or have to be paused?

I think it is odd that we have exponential increases in hard drive space and online data storage, but ie still stalls when downloading or uploading files. I am taking an online class through my university but i am unable to download files very easily because ie8 keeps stalling and ending the download early, sometimes also being unable to resume it even when i try to re-download the file immediately. I was hoping getright would solve my problem but my school uses a forwarding procedure to download the videos (e.g. , Clicking the link downloads "download. Mov", which then changes to the actual file link "class. Mp4"). I am unable to find the full link for class. Mp4 and so am kinda in limbo for now.

Does ie8 have any sort of built-in download manager or have one available as an add-on?
