Saving Of Favorites Problem

In win 7-64, ie8, everytime i save a favorite, it saves two lines to the folder. One entry is the name i gave it. That entry will not open the site. The second entry is the complete link  it does open the site. For example:

Saved the following with the name i gave it:
Kitchen cabinet finishing

The second line, never adjacent to the first saved line was:
Kitchen-cabinets-and-hardware.com-kitchen-cabinet-finishing.html

The entry of the name i gave it is useless.

How can i solve this problem?

Clicking On Favorites Button In Ie Displays Empty Favorites

Unable to add or organize favorites in ie8. Receive error message that c:/users/opa/documents/favorites/favorites refers to a location that is unavailable. The location does exist on my drive. Clicking on favorites button in ie displays empty favorites sub-screen.

Favorites Adding

Before i downloaded this new version i was very content with the fact that next to my favorites star button another star button with a plus for easy adding without having to open the annoying favorites menu for adding. Giving that option back to us, well me since i loved the option so much, would be absolutely great. And no i don't like that new option that goes with the star button that has the arrow, hate it. I would like to put the adding favorites button back into my toolbar, not going to the menu.

Favorites Not Working

I have ie8, vista, for some reason, all my favorites are no longer working. Meaning. They all display on my favorites tab, but when i click on it, nothing happens. My history tab works, all the links open up as they should, however, the favorites do not work.

I have tried to restore ie default settings, i resorted back to ie7, i reloaded ie8. I have exported the links (all look fine on export) i have deleted all of them, i re-loaded them and no luck. I click on them, select the arrow to the right, and nothing.

Favorites Missing

Over the last 2-3 weeks all the links within ie8 favorites have disappeared. In fact when first clicking on favorites the following error message appears:

"Location is not available - c:users*name*musicfavoritesfavorites refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be in a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet on your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been move to a different location"

Subsequent clicking on favorites within ie8 then just comes up completely blank. I can find all the links within a favorites folder in the music folder location. I don't know why the favorites have been moved and how to rectify this. Any advice would be appreciated.

The problem is on a laptop running windows vista home premium service pack 2.

Saving A Theme

At time i want to change properties of an existing thme and overwrite the original. Well, when i click "save theme" and type in the same name as an existing theme i end up with 2 themes with the same name. I would assume windows would ask me if i wanted to replace the other theme. I am then forced to delete the original hoping i'm deleting the proper one. Is this normal? What are some guidelines as to saving themes? I change elements of themes frequently. I don't want to save different themes and end up have hundreds of themes on my system.

Saving An Image..?

I have a problem on saving images from a webpage. Yes, i did right-click on an image and click "save image as. " And a window popped out asking where should i save the picture. But every time i save it on my picture folder, it says "there are no more files. " I tried to save it on my music folder and the same thing happened. So i decided to save it on my desktop, but then a small window popped out and said "the file is not valid. "
I used to think that my picture folder didn't have enough space, but it didn't make sense, because when i copied pictures from my friend's pendrive to my picture folder, it worked. And i also thought that it's the web program that has problems (i was using firefox) but that seemed impossible, too, because this problem also occurred when i used internet explorer.
This had never happened before. This problem just recently occurred about a few days ago.
Help me please!

Ie8 Favorites Do Not Work

I have the following problems with favorites in ie8:

Adding a favorite creates it twice (once with the url as name, once with the page title as name)
Clicking on any favorite in ie does nothing (no error, no feedback)

Favorites can be deleted without problem
Opening the url file in explorer opens a print window (the print is empty)
Reinstalling ie8 had no effect and no spyware was detected by multiple scanners

Anybody have any clue what could be the cause of this?

Favorites Not Working In Ie8

I have an hp pavillion running vista. Recently the "favorites" feature stopped working. All my bookmarks are still listed but they do not work (and the little icons before the text are now just empty boxes). If i try and add a favorite, it won't be added. I have not added any new programs that i am aware of. Favorites just suddenly stopped working. The favorites folder still exists in my users directory. The registry address is %userprofile%. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled ie 8. I have reset it. I have run it without add ons. I have scanned the computer for viruses using norton 360. Nothing has worked.

Favorites Icons (favicons)

For each saved favorite in the drop down, a right-click to properties, then change icon, goes to a file containing only five preloaded generic other icons to choose from. Location: c:windowssystem32url.dll

So i want to design my own icons and tag them to various favorites (also perhaps on desktop). I also want to store them somewhere (if possible, add them to the same preloaded "library" at c:windowssystem32url.dll).

Can i do this? How?

Where Are Email And Favorites Stored?

My new computer crashed and is being replaced. I dumped the contents of the original hard drive to an external drive so i can retrieve some contents. I wish to retrieve my email contact list, my emails - in all their different folders, my internet websites and cookies which has all my logins and such. I wasn't able to do an easy transfer under the circumstances. Is it possible to locate these files and just copy them to the new setup? I would hate to loose all this information.

Ie Problem With File Saving

When i am on the internet, specifically ancestry.com and other such sites, i try to save files to my computer. I try to have them saved to my desktop or documents folder, but they keep getting saved to some temporary folder that i can never find! It is so irritating! When i try to do a search in the start menu, my files never show up, nor does the temporary internet file folder, which i have looked for in all the places they say to look.

What can i do so my computer stops trying to "protect" me by hiding my files? And where do i go to find the ones that are already there?

Saving Images From Internet

I have accessed a family history website and attempted to save a copy of a certificate. The website gives you the option to save the image online and/or save to your computer. In the past i have chosen to save to my computer and navigated to the relevant folder on my computer, given the file a name and hit the save button. Done! This was using windows xp. I could then view/print the file at any time. It was where i expected it to be in the folder i had created for that purpose.

Now i am told i do not have permission to save to my selected folder on c drive. "Would i like to save to my pictures?" Eventually i relented and said yes.

Result, i can only see the picture when i save another image to the folder. In the save window.

The folder says it is empty when i attempt to view the image through the explorer window. It appears i can only see folders not files in the libraries view. I attempted to create a new folder in the my pictures folder so i could organize the images but i can't see files in there either.

How can i fix the problem?

Folder Setting Not Saving

I noticed that folder settings are not being saved after i restart the pc. There are two scenarios.
1. After i installed winamp media player, all audio files default to that program. I will open an mp3 file with windows media player and tell it to always open with this program. It then opens all mp3 files with wmp instead of winamp, but as soon as i restart it goes back.

2. I have an mp3 player which i connect to the pc and device stage opens it up and says that there is a new update for the player. I hit update and the interface changes. This stays like that until i restart the pc. Once i restart it, the interface goes back to the old one and it tells me there is a new update.

Saving Passwords And Login Id

I have a brand new laptop with w7 home/pr pre-installed. Auto-update is working so it's up to date. I use a zyxel wireless-n router which is functioning fine with all my xp laptops and my w7. Also attached to the network are a wd nas as well as various print-server connected printers. My security software is zone alarm extreme (up-to-date).

The password issue:
(1)  the w7 laptop logs on fine when i startup in windows and to the network. But when i open explorer and click on the nas, i always have to enter the logon-id even though i tell it to save it.

(2)  passwords are not saved with outlook 2003. I've applied every method in kb 290684 and 829918, including the registry stuff. To no avail.

(3)  windows live mail - same problem - causing failures.

(4)  ie 8 - will not accept a modified default search engine setting . . . Related? So now i use firefox but i need ie since some foreign sites do not accept firefox (even in ie mode). There are no problems with accessing internet sites which require logon and passwords. Since the laptop is new i have not tried local applications with password settings. However, until the email is resolved, the w7 laptop cannot become the primary laptop.

I'm sending this from an xp since i cannot logon with a w/live logon on the w7 laptop. Any suggestions on how to fix this "save password" problem are appreciated.

Import Favorites Lost Their Icons

I recently installed a new workstation running windows xp sp3 and ie7 (as was my previous workstation1). Can't go to ie8 because it is not certified to run with my company's enterprise software.

I exported my ie favorites from the old pc and then imported them on the new one; all the icons for my favorite sites have changed to generic ones. Why did the icons disappear and how can i get them back to stay? I have visited some of the sites and sometimes the icon comes back and other times it doesn't. Also, the icons don't always remain. Sometimes, for no apparent reason when i launch ie, some of them are back to generic again.

Change Width Of Favorites Toolbar

When i open my favorites toolbar, it appear on the left side of my screen (where it should), but only as a narrow sliver. When i drag my cursor over the right edge of the favorites tool bar i do get a double-headed arrow, but it wont let me drag the favorites window to give a wider column-width.

Also, when i try to 'click' the double-arrow on the toolbar's right edge, the right edge of the toolbar disappears and/or shifts to the left edge of the explores window (so i'm not sure if i'm actually selecting or 'clicking' on anything) - when i let go of the mouse button, the right edge of the favorites toolbar returns to its too-narrow config. Any suggestions? I'm also not sure how/why my favorites toolbar shrank to its present too-narrow column-width (i don't think i set it that narrow - if i need it that narrow, i just turn it off)

Office 2010 Favorites Feature

I'm looking for a couple features in office 2010 (just upgraded from office 2003). The first features is saving favorites from excel and word. In 2003 i would save a file link from the network or my hard drive as a favorite in internet explorer. Thus clicking the favorite in i.e. Would open the excel or word file on the network drive. The second feature i'm looking for is how to modify and save an attachment from an email without sending it or doing a save as to the hard drive. In 2003 you could open a file and it save it without having to do a save as. Hopefully this makes sense. Am running windows 7 pro 32bit on a new system.

Delete Favorites Bar Folder

How do i delete the favorites bar folder? I'm trying to delete the 'favorites bar' folder from my bookmarks list in internet explorer 8, as it is redundant. I do not currently, and will never use it, and i also do not want it there. However, every time i delete it, it comes back a few minutes later. I've disabled the favorites bar via group policy editor, and i've tried a suggestion i found of setting the corresponding folder to hidden via windows explorer, then deleting the folder from my bookmarks, but it reappears a few minutes later. Is there any way of getting rid of this folder permanently?

Cannot Delete Folders In Ie8 Favorites

I have a new hp pavilion desktop (6gb ram, 1tb hd) which came loaded w/ windows 7 and ie8, version 8. 0. 7600. 16385, 64 bit edition. I'm trying to clear all folders and favorites from favorites so that i can import a fresh set from another browser. All went well until the last few folders. When i try to delete these, i get the following message: "could not find this item. This is no longer located in c:usersferdfavorites. Verify the item's location and try again. " This is followed by the name of the folder and the date created.

I followed all of the steps, including those in the link to the microsoft kb article, in the moderator's reply to w mayberry's post of february 20, 2010, "i've been having a problem organizing my favorites file" because it seemed like a similar problem. However, none of those steps have worked for me.

Just to make things more interesting, i got the following error message in trying to delete one of the folders (unsorted bookmarks): "an unexpected error is keeping you from deleting the folder. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x80070091: the directory is not empty" i searched on this forum for this error code, but got "no results found". I have no other problems with ie8. It works fine. This issue is more of an annoyance.

History And Favorites Disappeared From Ie8

For no reason that i can fathom, ie8 has stopped displaying a short list of history and favorites in the drop-down address bar. Before today it would have a short list of 12 recent sites that i've visited, then a favorites heading and 5 sites from my favorites with an option to expand to more, then the history heading with 5 sites and the option to expand the list. Now i just get the 12 recent sites with no history or favorites headings at all.

I have tried unchecking the auto-complete options, closing the browser, restarting the computer, restarting ie8 and rechecking them (including favorites and history) and i just get the same result. I also ran ie8 without addons and confirmed that this is happening without an addon causing the problem. I liked being able to quickly click on one of my favorites from the drop-down menu (i kept my top 5 at the top of the list and so they were easily accessible), and i'd like to get this functionality back.

Will i have to completely reinstall ie8 in order to do so? As far as i'm aware nothing has changed on my computer between last night and today to have caused this. I think adobe updated, but as i mentioned i ran ie8 without any adobe addons and it still had the same issue.

Saving To Network Drive From Ie8

A client system (xp sp3, novell network, non-admin account) here is having issues saving documents from within ie8 to her assigned network drive. (I know more technical details for the network/setup may be warranted but for now i'm hoping someone has seen this or knows a fix based on this basic info).

None of her mapped network drives show up as possible save locations from within the ie8 "save as" dialogue. Her drives are  working fine otherwise; she can read, write, delete, etc. To them from windows explorer and other programs. There doesn't seem to be any further permission issues or drive mapping issues.

In this particular case, the file she wants saved is a pdf. Adobe acrobat is installed and works fine otherwise for viewing, saving pdf docs. The scholastic program she uses insists on launching the pdf from within ie8 when it generates reports for print/view.

Here's what else i know so far: when adobe is launched independently of ie, all of the network drives are available to save to. No issues here. This saving issue applies to all file types, not just pdfs (i tested with an mp3 file too). The pdf issue is just here at the forefront because of its tie-in with ie and the scholastic program that forces ie to handle the pdf.

Is seems to be an issue specific to this user's account permissions and ie8 only. - I installed firefox for testing purposes and from there i can save pdf and mp3 files to all network shares.
There are no settings within the scholastic software to tell it not to launch ie for it's pdf export feature. Even with firefox installed and set as default browser, it spawns an ie window. (Seriously, why would someone program that way?)

I have tried setting the url for the generated pdf to the "intranet zone" type in the security settings of ie. No change. I have confirmed that, as the domain admin, i can saved to these locations from within ie, again: the issue seems account and ie specific.

Clearly there are some work-arounds, but i'm looking for a solution and maybe a explanation to this behavior. A group policy issue? An ie issue? Both?

Ie8 Won't Let Me Add New Favorites

I have ie 8 running on vista (w sp2) on a dell xps laptop. Just recently i found that i cannot add new favorites either to the favorites menu or the favorites toolbar. I can drag a link to the desktop and it will stick there, but after dragging one to the favorites toolbar, i can watch while the new link simply disappears. Likewise, when i click "add to favorites" on the menu, all the actions will take place, even to the new favorite appearing on the menu for a second but then it vanishes. There are no error messages when any of this happens. My old favorites are still there on the bar and the menu and work fine.

I have not been able to find anything about this problem elsewhere. I imagine it is a problem with a setting but i can't imagine which one. I have delete a lot of items from my favorites folder thinking it might be a storage problem but that was no help.
